Misc Beauty Tools -Clarisonic - Pro Skincare Brush
missred2u 7/29/2010 12:01:00 AM
This review may be a bit premature. I usually like to give products a couple weeks before writing a review. However, the Clarisonic deserves to be addressed NOW :) I got this 2 days ago, let it charge, and started using it first thing this morning. I couldn't believe the difference in the way my skin looked and felt. My makeup went on better, my dry patches were less noticeable, my moisturizer/ss absorbed better, and my skin felt incredibly soft. I used it again tonight (I have the sensitive brush head) and my skin feels even better. My CeraVe PM absorbed instantly, where before it seemed like it took several minutes. If I keep getting results like these, this brush is surely to become a staple in my skincare routine. If this one ever dies, since you can't replace the battery, I will absolutely repurchase.
Lipstick -Christian Dior - Addict: Undressed Pink 219
missred2u 7/12/2010 2:15:00 PM
I have to confess my love for this lipstick. I have very pigmented lips and all of the nudes I've ever tried either make me look like a corpse, or my natural lip color would show through. This lipstick is so pigmented that it covers my natural lip color without looking cakey or making me look like death. It's light as air and has just enough pink to look very natural. The texture is very creamy and lightweight. Although I don't like paying almost $30 for a lipstick, this was well worth it. Most definitely my HG nude, trumping my Hard Candy Perfect 10. Love it!
Foundations -Stila - one step makeup [DISCONTINUED]
missred2u 7/12/2010 1:51:00 PM
I'm really on the fence about this product. I like the mousse like texture and the coverage, however, the "primer" part of this foundation settles into my pores, which aren't obvious otherwise or with other products. It looks like I have little foundation dots on my face around my nose. I really had to blend like crazy with a stippling brush to get them to blend with the rest of my skin. I still have to wear powder on my t-zone and also have to use concealer under my eyes. It hasn't broken me out, and the "fair" shade is a good match for my skin which is why I gave it 3 lippies. I wouldn't purchase this product again simply because it's too expensive for what it claims, and fails, to do.
Treatments -Alpha Hydrox - AHA Souffle 12 percent Glycolic AHA
missred2u 6/18/2010 9:12:00 PM
I initially bought this to use on my face, but it ended up being too strong for my sensitive skin. I didn't want to waste it, so I started using it on my feet before bed and it works wonderfully for keeping your feet smooth. It also works on knees and elbows. I'm very particular about how my feet look and feel, and I'm very pleased with this. I don't have to manually exfoliate anymore, which I LOVE. I absolutely will keep purchasing this. Oh, for my face, I started using Alpha Hydrox 10% Enhanced Lotion and it's perfect. :)
I've been an avid user of the volume formula since it first came out. I had to be careful not to overdo it, because it gave me too much of a dramatic look for everyday use if I use more than a light hand. I tried the length formula, but my blond eyelashes barely showed up, even though the mascara did deliver in length. This formula, however, is the best of both worlds. I use blackest black and one coat gives me great volume that's not too dramatic and it also gives length. Two coats would be perfect for evening and nighttime looks. This never ever smudges on me (almost everything else does), and wears all day until I take it off at night. Great product and would repurchase over and over.
Eye Shadow -Sonia Kashuk - Enhance Eye Shadow - Driftwood
missred2u 5/21/2010 4:03:00 PM
Driftwood is a soft, medium, matte brown that works beautifully in the crease when doing a natural eye. It has good color payoff and blends very well. I've only used it in the crease to give my eyes some depth when doing a "no eye m/u" look, but I'm sure it would be a great transition color when blending darker shadows with lighter shades. It is very buildable, so if you want a natural look, only a light hand is needed. This e/s is comparable in formula and texture to MAC Matte2 formulas, but cheaper and available at Target. I definitely will repurchase should I ever run out. Great product!
I thought I had found my HG TM/lightweight fdtn in Hard Candy Sheer Envy TM. However, after using about 1/3 of the tube, it began to separate. The consistency got very watery and the coverage wasn't at all what it was when I first purchased. It became hard to blend and exacurbated my dry patches. So I went into Sephora and a lovely SA led me to the Tarte section when I told her my problem. She chose shade Agent 02, aka Facade. It was heavenly! It gave me a dewy finish, covered my areas of redness and didn't accentuate any dryness. My skin looked glowy and fabulous. I love that Tarte is also free of parabens and sulfates. If you have normal/dry skin and need light to medium coverage, TRY THIS!!! It's total love for me. Oh, and it also has SPF 20!
I will echo what others have said. This is what NARS Orgasm should've been. I've used Orgasm for a while and loved the color, but wasn't crazy about the sparkles. However, I accepted the sparkles because the color was amazing on me. Then in walked Coralista. It's VERY similar to Orgasm as far as shade, but minus the sparkles. It has a tiny bit of shimmer that makes you look luminous and alive. The packaging is very cute, although not very practical. It's not enough to keep me from repurchasing, though! For reference, I'm NC 15 with red hair, blue eyes, and light colored freckles. This blush is perfection.
Moisturizers -Cerave - Facial Moisturizing Lotion - PM
missred2u 3/23/2010 12:57:00 PM
I've waited a couple weeks to write a review for this, although I wanted to do so the 2nd night I used it. I love this product! It's very light and absorbs very quickly. I use it after applying my AHA product. It soothes my skin, as the AHA can burn a little. I wake up to very soft, hydrated skin that doesn't feel the least bit oily. I have also noticed a significance reduction of under eye redness, and with the redness around my nose. Overall I'm extremely happy with this product and will continue to repurchase!
I am in love with this lippie. I'm not much of a lipstick girl, but this doesn't feel like lipstick. It's very smooth and creamy. The finish is glossy and shiny. The color is my perfect nude. It mutes out my naturally pigmented lips just a bit and doesn't leave me with "concealer lips". It's a peachy pink with barely a hint of sheen. It's not shimmery or sparkly at all. I'll absolutely repurchase!!!
Tinted Moisturizer -Hard Candy - Sheer Envy Tinted Moisturizer spf15
missred2u 2/17/2010 10:48:00 AM
In the last year or so, I've been taking a lot better care of my skin and find that I don't need as much coverage that normal foundations give anymore. I'm very, very pleased with this product. Since my skin is dry and very fair, I apply my normal moisturizer (Eucerin Everyday Protection SPF 30), and then apply a thin layer of this. It blends well, but you have to be careful not to use too much, as a little goes a very long way. It gives me just enough coverage to even out my skin tone without looking like makeup. I follow up with a bit of Hard Candy So Baked Bronzer in Hula Hula on my forehead, across my cheeks, down my nose, and on my chin. My skin looks amazing and feels great. I'd definitely repurchase! **EDIT** I knocked off 2 lippies because the product began to separate after I used about 1/3 of the tube. It became hard to blend as well. Try Tarte Smooth Operator if you didn't like this. :)
CD/Books/Movies -Unlisted Brand - Rescue Your Nails by Ji Baek
missred2u 1/10/2010 8:33:00 PM
I agree totally with the other review. If I ever lose this book, I would replace it in a heartbeat. Ji tells you how to work with your own nails to get a flawless mani/pedi. She is very big on sterilizing her instruments to prevent infection. My hands and feet have never looked prettier and it's all thanks to this book. This is a great guide and VERY reasonably priced. Thank you, Ji Baek!!
This is my very first MAC e/s purchase. I had been holding out because of the number of unused shadows I already own. When I saw this yesterday at Nordstrom's, the colors caught my eye. They are in the neutral family, but not boring by any means. Being a fair-skinned redhead, it's hard for me to pull off a smokey eye without looking totally over the top. This palette took care of that! The colors are soft, very easily blendable, and can be used for a day or night look. I can see how these colors may not show up as well on darker skin, but for fair-skinned ladies, you MUST get this. I'll be doing a smokey eye look a lot more often now! Looks like I'll be checking out more MAC shadows.
I thought I had reviewed this already because I've loved it for so long, but I guess not. This is the first gloss that I have bought again after I ran out. It's a sheer, peachy gloss with some shimmer, and has good staying power. It's slightly sticky, but not terrible. That's why it lasts so long. I use this over almost every lipstick I own, on the occasion that I wear l/s. Usually, I wear this on its own. I will repurchase as long as it's still being made!
CD/Books/Movies -Bobbi Brown - Bobbi Brown Makeup Manual
missred2u 10/6/2009 6:25:00 PM
I enjoy reading this book. I don't follow all of her advice, but she has some great tricks that make a difference in my makeup. I love her approach to makeup. I like that she focuses on natural beauty and playing to your imperfections. Her models are "real". There is one model she uses with a gap between her two front teeth. It's adorable! The book is rather pricey, but contains some great info.
