Powder -Shiseido - Sun Protection Compact Foundation

I tried this in SP40 as a potential substitute for my MAC Studio Finish in C4. Pros: - The colour match for me is just as good as the MAC C4 - other reviewers have noted that it goes well with skin that has yellow undertones, which I do have (medium tan Asian) so maybe that's why. - The SPF30+ factor was the main reason I tried this as I gave up using sunscreen under my makeup as it was causing me breakouts (small hard white bumps that turn into big sore red pimples that don't pop!) as well as that shiny look you can't avoid with wearing sunscreen. - Cute and sturdy compact that's really portable to carry in your handbag - Don't need a lot of product for coverage (which is good because you don't get much for the amount you pay). Cons: - It goes on feeling rather dry and does settles into a nice finish, which is just as good as MAC SF - BUT only where your skin is great. This powder tends to emphasize dry patches or areas where I've needed to use more concealer to cover spots. Blending these areas for a 'perfect' face is not really working. I've even tried experimenting with powder first-concealer after application but it's just not working for me. - My skin is dry and getting irritated by this product after a week of trying this powder out. Not breaking me out badly but is very drying and beginning to irritate to the point I just can't ignore - skin is just not happy (here we go again). - Price you pay for the amount of product you get is disappointing, considering the finish is not that great. It's much smaller than the MAC SF for an extra $AU4. Also my MAC lasted me for over a year and I'm not sure how long this will last before needing replacement. All in all, I really wished that this product would work for me as summers in Adelaide Australia are really hot and would have loved to solve the sunscreen/makeup problem that's not doing my skin any favours. Looks like I just have to try and search for a sunscreen that won't break me out/clog my pores or powder with SPF that provides a nice finish and doesn't irritate my skin (if such a thing exists - maybe I'll just start wearing hats!)

Mascara -Shiseido - The Makeup Mascara Base [DISCONTINUED]
rated 5 of 5
Trunks 7/30/2008 9:36:00 AM

I bought this from Strawberrynet based on the reviews here - and you guys didn't let me down!! I only just put this on an hour ago and I love it so much that I had to quickly write a review. I've never worn a mascara base/primer so I can't compare with others but I don't know how I lived so long without this stuff. I have straight Asian lashes and absolutely require an eyelash curler if I want to get my lashes looking halfway decent with mascara. I know it's naughty but after I curl and apply one coat of mascara, I usually have to curl my lashes again cos they always droop - even if I use mascara with "curling formula". I know it's bad but that's the only way I get great looking lashes - "curling mascara" doesn't work on my long, thick but stubbornly straight lashes and I'm always gentle. But when I applied this primer on after curling once with my Shu - I did not have to curl at ALL after applying mascara - I even applied two coats of mascara. This stuff holds the curl brilliantly. I was awed the moment I put this lovely base on - no clumping, lashes looked beautifully defined and slightly lengthened. Then the first coat of mascara was applied - still no clumps, then the second - I was absolutely amazed, sincerely! It even makes my below par Maybelline mascara look awesome. I usually use Full 'n' Soft but decided to experiment with their new Define a lash volume mascara and it's not that great. Can you imagine what my eyelashes will look like WITH my fav Full 'n' Soft mascara?! I left my post open for a couple of hours and my mascara has not flitted or smudged, curl still intact, and my lashes look like falsies they're so darn nice. Do yourself a favour and try this if you've been looking endlessly for a HG mascara - no need, only a HG base! Thanks again MUA :)

Moisturizers -Jurlique - Balancing Day Care Cream
rated 5 of 5
Trunks 6/19/2008 11:37:00 PM

I used to use the heavier Day Care Face Creme - which I love - but when Jurlique changed their packaging I gave this a go. I figured that if the OPC cleanser I love and use is now the Balancing cleanser, I might as well try the Balancing moisturiser. I love this stuff - this gives the right amount of moisture I need for my combo skin that tends towards dry patches with an oily t-zone. I hate 'lotions' and the Herbal Recovery Gel or the Clarifying lotion for combo skin just doesn't work on me. My skin feels like it needs more moisture than they give. This really helps to stop the shiny t-zone at the end of the day but gives me the right amount of moisture I need - skin feels happy :) So give this a go if you liked the heavy day care face cream/moisture replenishing cream but want something a little lighter and less prone to oiliness.

Powder -MAC - Studio Fix Powder Plus Foundation
rated 5 of 5
Trunks 6/19/2008 11:16:00 PM

I waited for at least a month before writing a review for this product. Fortunately for me my skin doesn't break out with MAC products - I know it does for others. If you're okay with most of their products, chances are that you'll be fine with Studio Fix. I use this over my select cover-up concealer and it gives me a flawless face. You can build the product up if you need more coverage but as others have said it can look cakey if you go overboard. I don't use the sponge at all that it comes with but a large powder brush applying the product in a circular motion over my face. I do find that I just need to go over it a little with a clean sponge or brush to avoid the cakey look. BIG NOTE: There is a difference between an allergic reaction 'break out' and clogged pores - you can't avoid clogged pores if you wear makeup. For a product that gives this kind of coverage I definately recommend using a makeup remover and a good cleanser to take off the product and prevent break outs. For frequent use of the product (i.e. everday for work) I would even exfoliate more than once a week. I use a daily exfoliating wash cream so it's not too harsh but it gets rid of the gunk we put on our faces to look lovely :)

Concealers -MAC - select cover-up
rated 4 of 5
Trunks 5/30/2008 8:58:00 AM

I use this liquid concealer mainly to even out skin tone in my undereye and redness around the corners of my nose. Not great coverage for pimples though but not bad - I have pretty clear skin with the occasional nasty pimples so this gives me enough coverage without looking cakey on a day-to-day basis. I've been using this concealer for years now and it's a staple in my MU bag. The NC42 is a great colour match for the yellow undertones in my tan Asian skin. Yes, it's a bit pricey but like most MAC products, I find that it's usually worth it for the colour match and the product last me well over 6 months. I prefer the tube that it comes in rather than having to use a pot and it does take a bit of practice to get the technique right to squeeze the right amount of product. I have some dry patches so I always apply pawpaw creme on dry areas and the undereye about 10 mins before applying the concealer. Not sure how it goes with foundation - I only use powder over the top and it goes great with MAC sheer loose powder and studio fix powder.

Blush -MAC - sunbasque
rated 5 of 5
Trunks 5/30/2008 8:48:00 AM

Love this colour - it's gives my skin a natural, healthy glow and compliments my skin colour well. Something that a good bronzer should do but I find that this blush brings out my skin colour better - more peachy, less burnt orange. I use it everyday for work but build it up if I'm going out. Bit pricey but worth the money for such a flattering colour and the amount of product goes along way

Moisturizers -Aesop - Primrose Facial Hydrating Cream
rated 4 of 5
Trunks 5/30/2008 2:33:00 AM

This is quite a heavy creme so I use it as a night creme. It also has a strong fragrance but if you like a natural scent you won't mind it - I don't. Feels nice on the skin and hydrating enough for those with dry patches like me rather than really dry skin. But I do find that I still have to apply some pawpaw creme over my dryest patches. I've been using this since Jurlique discontinued their Ultra-sensitive night treatment gel - it's reliable, feels nice and doesn't break me out.

Moisturizers -Kiehls - Sodium PCA Oil Free Moisturizer
rated 1 of 5
Trunks 5/30/2008 2:24:00 AM

As many of the reviewers have noted, this product didn't really do much. The packaging is just a plastic tub and there is no nice smelling scent to the cream. It didn't feel nice on my skin after application and ended up irritating it. Fortunately I got a refund but won't be buying again.

Skincare - Face -Jurlique - Chamomile Rose Aromatic Hydrating Concentrate
rated 5 of 5
Trunks 4/22/2008 1:01:00 AM

I've been using this for 4 years or so and love it. It's amazing what a couple of drops of this stuff will do for your skin! I find that my skin feels fresher and looks brighter and just makes a difference to the overall appearance of my skin. It was part of my 3-step cleansing routine with other Jurlique products but it got expensive and my routine became a little arduous sticking to the routine everyday so I dropped the AHC step. But I found my skin feeling okay but not great so I started using AHC again. This time round I only use it before applying a mask or the Daily Exfoliating Cream or when my skin feels like it needs an extra deep cleanse. It feels like it makes the mask/exfoliant work better.

Mascara -Maybelline - Full 'N Soft Mascara
rated 5 of 5
Trunks 3/29/2008 11:03:00 PM

This is my current HG mascara - it does everything possible that I want. It gives me no clumps and no smudges during the day and thickens my lashes without looking (or feeling) stiff. I do wipe off excess product off the wand before I apply. I give it time to dry before putting on a second coat and I don't put any on my bottom lashes. I gave up looking for a HG mascara that does all this AND curls my lashes because I don't think it's possible for very straight eye lashes - eye lash curlers are really the only way to go. Products that manage to lift my lashes a little end up looking pretty stiff and end up drooping by the end of the day. I used to use Max Factor 2000 calorie but it started to 'flit' during the day and I would end up with black specks under my eyes. Went onto Lancome Hypnose but I find that this works just as good but without the high price tag. I've been using it for years now and it's such a great price and product that I haven't needed to look for another one. It pretty much does what it says - 'Full and Soft'

Skincare - Body -Jurlique - ROSE hand/body lotion
rated 5 of 5
Trunks 10/3/2006 11:30:00 PM

This is a great product - it's smooth, not too thick, not too heavily scented, not greasy at all, not too light - just the kind of body cream I'm looking for. I tend to slather on moisturiser so body butters are way too thick and greasy. The 240 ml pump bottle lasted me for at least 2 months - going out to get some more!

Skincare - Face -Jurlique - Daily Exfoliating Cream
rated 5 of 5
Trunks 9/29/2006 1:16:00 AM

I agree with most of the comments here - this stuff is fab. It gives you instant results - the first time I used this (following the regime) my partner commented on how great my skin looked - the first and only time he's EVER done that - so that's what got me hooked onto Jurlique products. Removes my need for an exfoliant and leaves me with soft beautiful skin, zero redness. I agree also that the con is the packaging, someone should tell them about their tubes....but doesn't stop me from re-purchasing for the last 3 years. As for the price, I have mentioned this before in another J review - become a National Pharmacies member (in certain states in Australia) and get 20% off ALL Jurlique products!

Cleansers -Jurlique - OPC Cleansing Lotion Make-Up Remover
rated 5 of 5
Trunks 9/29/2006 1:01:00 AM

Okay, so I know that it's called a makeup remover but I use it as my cleanser. I agree with other reviewers here about its' makeup removing abilities - with the mascara I use, this has no hope of removing it. I just use a generic eye makeup remover and pads to wipe of my makeup then use this to cleanse my skin. I LOVE it and prefer over the other cleansers in the range - I find it's better suited to my sensitive, dry skin than the other one for sensitive skin. Actually, the only product for sensitive skin I use from Jurlique is the ultra-sensitive night treatment gel - weird but hey, if I knew the answers to my skin problems, I wouldn't be poring over all these reviews - so thanks!

Skincare - Face -Jurlique - Herbal Recovery Gel
rated 5 of 5
Trunks 9/29/2006 12:48:00 AM

I'm writing this review for my mother because personally, this cream is too much for my sensitive skin - the comment about this being for sensitive skin is not correct (I mean, the company has a line for sensitive skin and this ain't one of those products). However, my mother, who is in her 50s absolutely LOVES this product. She doesn't want anything else from me for mothers day or Christmas, just this (and the the eye gel). I agree that for her skin, which is normal with oily T-zone, it works wonders. She looks healthy and glowing and also LOVES all the compliments she gets. I would recommend that before trying any Jurlique products, you should consult with the Jurlique consultant (not just someone whose going to read off the bottle). I made the mistake of taking in the hype of this product and started my J experience with it - I have sensitive skin with dry itchy patches and this isn't it for me. I use the day care face cream and the ultra sensitive night treatment gel (with the Herbal recovery mist in DS in winter) as moisturisers.

Moisturizers -Jurlique - Moisture Replenishing Day Care Cream
rated 5 of 5
Trunks 9/29/2006 12:35:00 AM

Firstly, skin care companies make different products for different skin types for a reason - and this cream is probably best for those with dry skin or like myself, sensitive skin prone to dry itchy patches. This product (with the help of the OPC makeup remover and rosewater spray) put my skin back on the road to recovery and I've been using it for the last 3 years. I don't find it greasy at all - I even apply the Sun Cream on after it - but I must admit that I apply it sparingly. Less is indeed more with this cream. Oh I don't mind the smell either - I think it's nice but whatever floats your boat I suppose. This is the only day cream I use - I love most Jurlique products and for those Australian girls who want to give it a go or love them but find it expensive, become a National Pharmacies member (if in your state) and you get 20% off ALL Jurlique products.
