Liquid -MAC - Mineralize Moisture SPF 15
rated 3 of 5

I was so excited about this when I heard that MAC was launching a dewy finish moisturizing foundation. In reality, I find this foundation to look more greasy than dewy. Also it doesn't set so it rubs off SUPER easily. It also moves around on my face since it never really sets. I like the bottle and I like how the colour (NC30) isn't as orange as other MAC foundations I have. As a dry skinned girl, anything with the word "moisture" is exciting enough to try but I'm just not impressed with its lack of setting/staying power, the greasy look, and the fact it moves around on my face and i feel like my face looks dirty after about 5 hours of wearing this. It does feel really nice going on, its easy to blend and the packaging is very nice as well. I might give this one away to someone who isn't as picky about foundation as I am. I much prefer the REVLON photoready or the Bourjois healthy mix serum for now!

Fragrances -Caudalie - Fleur de Vigne Fresh Energizing Fragrance
rated 4 of 5

This is a really subtle fresh scent on me. The first note is definitely citric but it dries to a cotton soft floral on me. I like this because its so subtle and none offensive. It literally smells like I had stepped out of a shower and put on some really fragrant body lotion- very shower fresh and super delicate. At $39 I much prefer this to strong, offensive, overwhelming perfumes out there.

Styling Products -Ojon - Damage Reverse Instant Restorative Hair Serum
rated 4 of 5

I have really long really thick hair so some kind of hair oil is always in my beauty kit and I have used many many kinds of oil for hair and this one is one of the better ones. It doesn't have that thick silicone like texture is actually a bit thinner but my hair seems to absorb it well. the scent is not bad but isnt all that divine either. I like the dropper packaging which keeps the product sanitary. I found that I needed to use more than two drops for my entire hair (I just need this for the ends and then again, I do have a lot of hair). Overall pretty good product, a little pricy for what it is.

Concealers -Urban Decay - 24/7 Concealer Pencil (all)
rated 4 of 5
Juliasyji 2/2/2013 6:06:00 PM

Love this super creamy concealer. It's very highly pigmented and blends well. I don't like the fact that I have to sharpen this every so often (why not a twist up? seriously, who wants to sharpen a concealer pen?) so one lippy taken off for inconvenient packaging. This would be HG is it came in a twist up stick form. Other than that, everything about this is lovely. I chose NSA (I'm nc30) and it works well under my eyes and on other areas of my skin that I want to conceal. Highly recommended. It's also priced very well at around $22 CAD.

Lipstick -MAC - Viva Glam Gaga 2

This is nice neutral pinky nude-y colour on me (NC30). I wouldn't call this a true nude on me since it isn't too pale on me but I much prefer this to other nudes out there that wash me out. I like wearing this with a clear gloss on top. A go-to whenever I don't want my lips to be too washed out.

Eye Shadow -Urban Decay - Naked 2 Palette
rated 4 of 5
Juliasyji 1/28/2013 1:58:00 PM

As a long time naked 1 lover, I had been getting tired of using the same colours all the time (had my naked 1 for about 2 years now!) and picked up naked 2 to try some new shades. I do like this palette, it's a good deal and the quality of the shadows is excellent as usual. Like naked 1, this is mostly shimmer/glittery shades except for 2 matte shades. I MUCH prefer the casing for this palette to the naked 1 palette which (despite being a pretty clean and a neat person) is very dirty now. That being said, the colours in naked 2 are pretty to look at but I still havent discovered my favourite go-to shades in this palette yet (from naked 1, i LOVED naked and smog). I love the little lip gloss included with the palette but the brush in the palette is rubbish.

Palettes -Urban Decay - Naked Basics
rated 5 of 5

Ah! Finally, UD made an all matte shadow palette :) As with the other UD palettes, the quality of the shadows are fantastic. These are matte but also super creamy and soft and NEVER chalky. The only issue I have is with the fact that there are so many highlight/ base colours. I can understand the shimmer white one and even foxy but i don't know why they included WOS. It's basically a pink based foxy. I wish they had included another midtone brown or taupe shade instead of WOS. Overall, this is an awesome palette I grab often simply because I love the quality.

Lip Treatments -Unlisted Brand - Lucas' Papaw Ointment
rated 5 of 5

I received a tube of this from my Aussie friend . at first I thought, what is it? is this like vaseline or aquaphor? how stupid. This is awesome and isn't made up of synthetic mumbo jumbo like petroleum. It actually penetrates the skin instantly relieving whatever issues I have. I love it and plan on slathering my feet, hands and my legs with this before bed tonight- because nothing else works in this horribly drying january weather.

Liquid -Bourjois - Healthy Mix Serum Gel Foundation
rated 4 of 5
Juliasyji 1/21/2013 12:15:00 PM

I originally wanted to make the purchase for healthy mix but my local shoppers drug mart only had the serum one. I made the purchase after quickly browsing through makeupalley reviews on my phone and I'm glad I did! I'm NC30 and shade 53 is a perfect match- in fact this is probably the best shade matching foundation I have currently (I have MAC, MUFE, Giorgio Armani, Revlon photoready, Missha BB cream and a few others in rotation). The coverage is decent (around medium) and the finish is very natural- not dewy not matte, just the way skin naturally looks- and the product packaging is fantastic- pump bottle with a cap- thin long design which makes it compact for travelling. I had high hopes for this foundation when it came to its ability to perfecting the skin and looking natural but not in terms of long wearing power. And to my delight, this foundation has a really good staying power as well! It lasts through my run and my skin still looks pretty decent at the end of the day. I'm SUPER picky when it comes to foundations and have tried many in the past and I must say that this is a gem and totally HG worthy. The only downside to this foundation is probably the limited shade range and I would be upset if this didn't come in my shade. I can't see anyone beyond NC42 being able to find a match in this foundation since the colours only range between light to tan. I highly recommend this foundation- it is much much cheaper than other high end foundations and performs much much better.

Moisturizers -Peter Thomas Roth - Glycolic Acid 10% Moisturizer
rated 5 of 5
Juliasyji 1/20/2013 10:18:00 PM

I have been turned onto glycolic creams about a year ago starting with neo strata creams. I found the neo strata stuff a little too clinical- they stung a little and I didn't like the high alcohol content in some of their stuff. After a bit of a search I found PTR's 10% glycolic cream. I liked this immediately because the cream is nice and thick- perfect because glycolic acid may be a little drying for some people. Also I loved that this comes in a no none sense squeeze tube - easy for travel, and a lot more sanitary than the jars that you have to dip your fingers into. I'm on the second tube of this and my skin has looked so great while I've been using this. I find that my skin craves a little more moisture than this gives during the winter months (I live in toronto where it gets SO DRY in winter) so sometimes I layer some face oil on top of this is still one of the more moisturizing glycolic creams I've tried. Current HG and this is pretty big because I'm super picky when it comes to skincare stuff.

Makeup Brushes -MAC - #130 Short Duo Fibre Brush
rated 5 of 5
Juliasyji 1/20/2013 10:36:00 AM

LOVE this brush! It's dense and short but makes foundation application so fast and so easy. I like using this on clients when I'm in a pinch and need a fast flawless finish. the buffing and blending time is significantly shortened with this brush and cleaning this brush is so much easier than the other foundation brushes. This is my go-to foundation brush and i have at least 3 in my kit!

Makeup Brushes -MAC - 266 Thin Small Angle (Synthetic hair)
rated 5 of 5
Juliasyji 1/20/2013 10:33:00 AM

I have had this for more 10 years and it's still good as new. Thats what I love about MAC brushes. If you take care of them, they will last forever. the 266 is a versatile brush that I use as a eyeliner or brow liner. Its tip is very thin and this is a pretty soft brush which means it's perfect for creating cat eyes or using this with brow powders. A must have!

Makeup Brushes -MAC - #217 Blending
rated 5 of 5
Juliasyji 1/20/2013 10:29:00 AM

Love this blending brush! I use this to blend eye shadows and also concealers from time to time. I like that it's fluffy yet slightly stiff making this so effective at blending away any harsh lines. Probably one of my favourite MAC brushes!

Treatments (Eye) -Unlisted Brand - Lilash - Purified Eyelash Stimulator
rated 5 of 5
Juliasyji 1/20/2013 10:25:00 AM

I'm only two weeks into using this so there is obviously no noticeable growth but I wanted to do a quick preliminary review (will update after using it for full 6 weeks to report on growth). I guess I'm one of those lucky people who have not had any discolouration issues or burning sensations with this. However it does many my eyes water which i don't like. The application is easy, just a thin swipe with the brush on my lash line. The consistency of this is like a thin runny gel which dries to white flakes by morning- i wake up with these white flakes clinging to my lashes in the morning. So far so good, I've rated it 3 because so far my reaction is neutral to this product. Will change and update in another few weeks. I cannot wait to see results with this like others have! UPDATE: upped the rating to 5 because I'm seeing a result! My lashes are noticeably longer. It's not fuller and not super dramatic but it's worth noting that the growth in length is definitely there. I will continue to use!

Eyeliner -L'Oreal - Infallible Gel Lacquer Liner in Blackest Black
rated 5 of 5
Juliasyji 1/17/2013 1:49:00 PM

Though this had mixed reviews (some excellent, some bad) I decided to give this a try and made the purchase last week. Since then, I've been wearing it everyday and this works very well for me. for some reason, most eyeliners (both liquid and gel) don't last on me. I've used bb gel liner, mac fluideline, stila smudge pot and the maybelline one for gel liners and everything from stila to lancome to l'oreal for liquid liners. This gel liner stays put on my lid whether I do a thick cat eye or a super thin subtle line. I also find that the formula of this liner is a lot creamier than the ones I've tried before. I find this to go on alot smoother and more black than the other gel liners. Some people complain about the liner brush it comes with but I am using it with no problem. In fact, I prefer this liner to my mac 266. For 13 Canadian dollars, you get a pot of liner AND a brush, thats a pretty good deal- considering most decent brushes are about 20 dollars and up and same goes for most decent gel liners. I'm pretty happy with this purchase and will buy again.
