Mascara -Hard Candy - 1,000 Lashes Fiberized Lash Weave Primer
rated 1 of 5
CaramelBeauty 12/31/2010 3:06:00 PM

I hated this product so much and I don't hate much in this world. I tried it as soon as I got home. It was a wal-mart day so there was no makeup to take off. I put on a fresh face and began to prime my eyes. I could not get the fibers to stick to my lashes so I tried applying clear mascara first then the primer. That kinda worked. Then I tried a second time and tried applying the product vertically (windshield wiper motion) on top of a small amount of regular mascara and some of the fibers fell into one eye. **DO NOT GET THIS IN YOUR EYES - PAIN WILL ENSUE!** I began to cry like the time I lied to my mom so I could go to the mall. It's currently sitting in my vanity area - maybe I will try it again with the windshield wiper motion but mostly I'm just scared to try it once more. Also the tube is really hard, like molded plastic so you can't just squeeze the product out and attempt to plaster it to your lashes. The whole situation with this primer made me re-think my love of makeup. For shame Hard Candy!!

Lip Gloss -Revlon - Super Lustrous Lipgloss- Cherries in the Glow [DISCONTINUED]

GAH! Where have I been?! I *heart* this color. The sheer wash of reddish pinky pigment is perfect for everyday or that first date when you don't want your date to know about your makeup habit :) The texture is very glossy but not tacky/sticky so we get the shine w/o feeling like you put paste on your lips. It's got a doe-foot/sponge applicator, so if you don't like those - well even if you don't like those, try this color anyway. I'm about the color of Taraji P. Henson and it serves me well. I got the first one from CVS for $3 and then I thought to roam the nearest Big Lots and *ka-CHING* I found 3 more. As Revlon is my witness, I will not without go Cherries in the Glow again!

Hair Removal -eos - Shave Cream Ultra Moisturizing Pomegranate Raspberry
rated 4 of 5
CaramelBeauty 4/6/2010 8:25:00 PM

I bought this scent, the fragrance free version and the Vanilla Bliss scent from Ulta. I tried the Pomegranate Raspberry first, thinking that the smell would be off. I really liked the consistency of this product and since it is a cream and not a gel, it does not lather. I was able to cover my leg from knee down with two half pumps - I'm 5'11 - and shave without needing to reapply. I use a 4-blade disposable razor. I was able to get a very close shave - no nicks - and my legs actually felt like I had applied lotion after I rinsed my legs. As if I had just put a little bit on after shaving - which can be difficult because you've just shaved! Rinsing was not difficult either and there was no icky soap residue left. This may sound gross but I have not shaved since maybe December. I don't have terribly hairy legs but whenever its been more than a week, I always get nicks, regardless of what I use or how slowly/gently I shave. I haven't had a problem with the pump and I tried each bottle. (Also if you are in the Chicagoland area, most Ulta stores have these shave creams on clearance.)

Treatments -Alpha Hydrox - AHA Souffle 12 percent Glycolic AHA

I also experienced breakouts on my forehead as if I were 14 again. So far this is bad. I really wanted to like it and I have had nothing but good results with the 10% oil free gel from this line and I thought bumping myself up to the 12% soufflé was a good idea; nope. I found it odd that only my forehead broke out but I have noticed a few tiny bumps around my chin but nowhere else on my face or my neck. I am very hesitant to reuse it.

Brows -Milani - Easybrow
rated 3 of 5
CaramelBeauty 12/5/2009 9:38:00 PM

The concept of an automatic pencil with a spoolie at the other end is genius....if only the spoolie hadn't come apart... I have been perfecting my 'simple' makeup routine ever since I had to be at work @ 7am, so my focus has been on my brows with maybe a little blush action. I thought this would be perfect. I have been using a regular eyeliner pencil but I thought an automatic one would work very well, and then I came across this at CVS while perusing. I bought the one in Dark Brown. It does keep its point pretty well, but of course after repeated usage it gets dull. Also you have to keep a light hand if you are not going to sharpen the edge. I used a cotton swab handle or my pencil sharpener to 're-point' my pencil by scraping the edge as you would when honing or sharpening a knife. If you do not sharpen the edge/ 're-point' then the application becomes messy and the tip is too wide to create a good tail for your brows. The spoolie was very effective although, about 3 weeks into using this product, it fell off in the sink :( Also, there doesn't seem to be a lot in this tube. I think I used it everyday (cause I was in luv) and after about a month, I was out :( I would have re-bought & given this 4 lippies but that dang spoolie ruined it - that and the lack of product overall.

Eye Shadow -Milani - Java Bean (18)
rated 4 of 5
CaramelBeauty 12/5/2009 9:21:00 PM

I bought this some years ago when I decided to try more earthier/neutral colors. When I first got it, I didn't know what I was doing but as time went on, I discovered that this became my go to color for a brown or a crease color. I didn't know what a great find I had stumbled upon! I really like the shimmery quality of the powder and it blends well on my skin. Nowadays I prime my lids with an eyeshadow primer (Sally Hansen Natural Beauty) but I used to use a bit of foundation or concealer to 'fix' my color to my lids. It's a single pan which can be very helpful when traveling. I often bring this for my 'evening' look along with my Physicians Formula Matte Collection Quad Eye Shadow in Classic Nudes. I like the clear lid because I can actually SEE what color I'm reaching for. I tend to buy items with a clear lid or top and I reach for them more than others with a shaker or opaque lid. This flip-top lid has not ever come open at an inopportune time and the hinge still has not broken. It's often on sale at CVS for BOGO 50% off or BOGO Free and even if it is not, it's not expensive at all! And if you don't really care for the color, you can return it. CVS has a really good policy for returning cosmetics - just save your receipt.

Mascara -Rimmel - Sexy Curves
rated 3 of 5
CaramelBeauty 12/5/2009 8:36:00 PM

I like the lightness of the product, it's not overtly wet and certainly not bone dry. It did not give me much volume but it did define my lashes very well. I found that is was also useful in de-clumping already applied mascara. This may be in part because of the brush more so than the actual mascara. I am often wary of these plastic brushes that have become to popular. Perhaps it's my aversion to change but I prefer the regular bristle mascara wands. I have poked myself in the eye far too many times with a plastic brush whereas, I have not poked myself in the eye with a bristle brush since I was 17. Overall this mascara is lightweight, defines the lashes well and is a good buy. I would suggest this for those with medium to long lashes who are not looking for volume.

Crème -Revlon - New Complexion One-Step Compact Makeup - Caramel
rated 1 of 5
CaramelBeauty 8/14/2009 6:53:00 PM

I have been lusting after this product for some time, thinking it would be my HG since I can't quite work with CG's AquaSmooth in Toasted Almond anymore (that "peach" undertone thing just was NOT cutting it). So I bought this at the same time along with the Sally Hansen by Carmindy foundation. I thought the SH foundation was a little too red" on me but when I put this one on, it was as if I had smeared red clay on my face. It gives wonderful med/full coverage, it does have a slightly dewy finish-it helped a little to set it with powder- and the compact is lovely. But all this, does not a perfect foundation make. I really wanted to like this product but it just was not going to work unless I stayed on a treadmill in the sun. If the color was not so very off, I would have kept it.

Foundations -Sally Hansen - Inspired By Carmindy Natural Beauty Your Skin Makeup ] [DISCONTINUED]
rated 2 of 5
CaramelBeauty 8/14/2009 6:46:00 PM

I also bought the darkest color (Mahogany) and it was far too red on me. I am about a Medium, as far as AAs go, but when i put this on the shade matched pretty well but it was just "red" enough where I wasn't comfortable wearing it. I tried to pair it with my Iman powder but it just made me look "muddy" because the powder is a warm/golden shade and coupled with the very warm/red tones in the foundation just looked a mess. Then I thought to try it with translucent powder. Nope just looked a lighter shade of "red". When I saw it in the store, I too looked at the bottom of the bottle to decide. It did seem a little "red" but I wanted to see it on my skin to make sure. The next shade lighter looked far too light, plus after trying this shade, I was done. It does have a light/medium coverage and it wore well through the day. But overall the shade range was its downfall.

Lip Treatments -Avon - Avon Dew Kiss Lip Dew
rated 4 of 5
CaramelBeauty 6/14/2009 8:39:00 AM

I like this lip balm because it is light and moisturizes well. I like a lip balm to soothe my lips even at their most chapped, and this fits the bill. I recently did a test of 4 lip balms and this one did well (about a 3.5 out of 5) in comparison to the others. While this does moisturize using oils, it does a good job and its not overtly waxy or hard like Chapstick can be. The smell isn't life ending. Granted I didn't know how it smelled when I ordered it but I suppose I just got used to it. I also like that the packaging is pink. Being a girly girl, I am a sucker for cute, neat packaging.

Moisturizers -Lacura - Q10 Day Cream
rated 4 of 5
CaramelBeauty 3/30/2009 5:41:00 PM

I bought this while I was in Aldi, looking for ingredients for a potluck and while I could not locate whipping cream, I was able to find a light, very moisturizing day cream. Granted this product is a little light to be considered a 'cream' it does work quite well. I do shy away from glass containers, as I am accident prone in the mornings, this was quite a find that I hope to be able to repurchase in the near future. Chicago winters have been taking a toll on my skin and baby, I'm not getting any younger. I have had patches all around my nose and mouth that were becoming quite a problem. I had started an exfoliating/moisturizing routine but that was not working. :( So I was becoming desperate and had begun to give up all hope. I gave this a try because I knew I could return it if I hated it. But no, it works!!!! It does have a scent which I barely notice after its been applied and remember I'm putting it all around my nose, so if it really bothered me I would know sooner rather than later. I even used it when I had the flu and got that peeling effect from blowing my nose too often. I also am using it on my neck as a night cream and since its so light, it doesn't end up on my pillow!

Eye Makeup Remover -Almay - Non-Oily Eye Makeup Remover Pads
rated 1 of 5
CaramelBeauty 3/22/2009 11:32:00 AM

I don't get this product. Everyone raves about how well it works so I thought I would try it out. It was on 'sale' at Ulta - buy 2 get 2 free- so I bought 2 pads and 2 bottles of the remover. As I wear eye makeup almost everyday, I tried it out when I got home. I was highly disappointed that the pads are SO thin and granted there are 100 of them it takes at least 3 just to remove masacara. It does not work well on waterproof anything. The jar concept for the pads is OK but the pads are almost too small and certainly too thin. BOO! HISS! • Eyeshadow - yes. • Regular masacara - ehh its okay but you have to use more than 3 of those thin pads. • Waterproof eye makeup - forget it, you'll be rubbing your eye area for far too long! I even tried using the remover in the bottle and its the same thing. ONLY difference is that you can soak your eye area and you'll get a wee-bit better performance than the pads alone. SAVE YOUR MONEY!

Mascara -L'Oreal - Voluminous mascara
rated 1 of 5
CaramelBeauty 3/15/2009 2:18:00 PM

This is my HG mascara. I love it. The volume is great, the consistency is perfect (not too cakey or runny or wet) and no smudges! This is my go to and has been for quite some time. I started with Maybelline's Great Lash but I always got some elsewhere on my face :( I get the volume I want with very very minimal clumping action even if I apply 3 coats or more OR I touch it up after work. A good sized wand coupled with a great formula make for lush lashes. A must buy! ************UPDATE*************** I no longer purchase L'oreal products.

Mascara -L'Oreal - Voluminous in Carbon Black
rated 1 of 5
CaramelBeauty 3/15/2009 12:41:00 PM

I thought I would really love this mascara. I love black on my lashes and the blacker the better! But with this it was just clump city. I had to let it go. I used it a few more times and it just ended up in my lipgloss pile and I let it get old and tossed it. ************UPDATE*************** I no longer purchase L'oreal products.

Mascara -L'Oreal - Double Extend Beauty Tubes
rated 2 of 5
CaramelBeauty 3/11/2009 2:04:00 PM

First: I don't care for 2-step mascaras- it's the opposite of quick & easy which is what I desperately need in the morning. I just want to put on 2 coats and GO. So I won this from allure or TotalBeauty.com and was SUPER excited to get through my tube of Maybelline Colossal. I tend to wear makeup everyday, even if it is just brows and lashes. So this mascara has two wands: one for the first step - a white conditioning coat- and one for the second step - a black "top coat" if you will. One of my main problems is that the first step dries WHITE, not clear or translucent. WHITE, okay? Okay. I thought at least I would get nicely defined, long lashes after dutifully applying the conditioning coat and carefully coating my lashes with step 2. Nope. The 1st and 2nd tries resulted in spidery-leg, albeit long, lashes. Not good. The 3rd time (this past Sunday) I didn't put enough step 2 on and ended up with white-tops-and-black-underside lashes. At least I was at an all-girls craft night; I went to the bathroom and washed them off. This no-makeup-remover-needed feature is the only thing that makes this mascara not completely awful. Today I gave it another go. I've been curbing my spending habits in the wake of the economic crisis. So instead of going to Ulta and giving them more of my money, I decided to work it out with this product. I applied the mascara as instructed and combed most of the spidery mess away (it dries QUICK!). The resulting lashes ARE long but far from silky. I also had the broken lashes too when I was removing it on the first time. tsk tsk. The black step 2 does nothing for the lashes on its own.
