Misc Beauty Tools -Shiseido - Eyelash Curler

i was one of those "it's just an eyelash curler" type of people. I've been using random cheap ones all my life. The one I've been loyal to was my Revlon curler that gets the job done. It didn't curl every single lash and it didn't hold the curl for long, but i was okay with the results. I read all the reviews and gave into the hype and spent $19 on this curler. First impressions: it was okay. I found it harder to curl my lashes with this as compared to my Revlon one. But I found that if I do it very slowly and carefully, I get a very nice curl, even after one use. I do, however, have to curl more than once to get my desired look. I have asian, almond shaped eyes. It's good if you have the time to curl it slowly. It does give good results that way. I'm not sure if I'd rebuy considering the price. I'll have to try the shu and koji curlers to compare, but it is definitely better than any drugstore curler I've tried.

Mascara -Make Up For Ever - Aqua Smoky Lash - Extra Black
rated 3 of 5

my lashes are noticeably longer after applying the first coat. It isn't *super* black. It's a good everyday mascara if you're looking for a "natural" look. Unfortunately, you can only apply a couple coats before your lashes start becoming spider lashes :( at the end of the day, it still smudges a little under my eye/in the corner. it's also pretty easy to take off i like it enough to keep using it, but I wouldn't buy it again for $23.

Mascara -Too Faced - Better than False Lashes

The mascara is used as a base and top coat. The fibers are used in between the initial base application. It takes a long time to really build up your lashes, which is unfortunate. You have to be careful not to get the fibers in your eye as well. After doing the first 3 steps, my lashes were really long. I decided to do these 3 steps again, and my lashes were extremely long and feathery. I have never had my eyelashes so long before. They were really fanned out and pretty, except this mascara isn't very pigmented. I would have liked my lashes to be at least a little more black. When I tried to just layer on more of just the mascara to build up the color, that's when my lashes started to clump and stick together like crazy. I ended up having brittle spider lashes that made my eye water and red. Not to mention, it was a pain to take off. If I had $35 to spare, I would buy this again just for the opened-eye look. It'd be good for everyday, but not if you want something really dramatic and black.

Eyeliner -Urban Decay - 24/7 Glide-On Eye Pencil Perversion

very creamy. very black. easy to smudge (if you're going for a smokey eye look). easy to make your line thick or small (just sharpen it to make it pointy) i have very oily eyelids and this stayed on even when i didn't use an eye primer. it didn't give me raccoon eyes, but smudged above my lids only a little bit. (with most drugstore eyeliners, it's a lot) I feel like it's such a pain to sharpen it though and I feel like when you do, you lose a lot of product. I got mine from sephora for $19. I like it a lot, it's a really good eyeliner, but I get the same results from my wet n wild creme eyeliner pot ($5)

Mascara -Givenchy - Noir Couture 4-in-1 Mascara

EDIT: after buying a new tube, i didn't get the results I did from my previous review (when i tried it in stores). The formula is more wet and it still does give good volume and makes your lashes very black, you just need to be careful with applying. It clumps easily and makes my eyelashes stick together instead of separating each lash. I'm going to wait for this mascara to dry up a little, try it again and see if I still get the same results I did the first time. --------- this is perfect, the best mascara I have used so far. The wand may look a little scary (just think of the original phenom' eyes wand x3), but it is so easy to use. This mascara makes my lashes look extremely full and gives it a ton of volume. Unlike a lot of mascara, it's also very, very black so I don't need to layer a lot, therefore avoiding clumps. I have pretty normal sized lashes that are pretty straight, but this mascara make them the biggest any mascara ever has, even without curling them. It hasn't clumped on me and it separates my lashes with each coat. The uniqueness of the brush allows you to really build up each individual lash as well (just hold the wand vertically and use the end of the ball wand to get the inner/outer lashes or even the bottom lashes). This mascara doesn't make my lashes feel brittle or stiff. It doesn't smudge or flake on me. Best of all, at the end of the day, I don't have raccoon eyes and my lashes still look as if I just put it on. This mascara comes in a long metal tube. It's pretty sturdy and looks professional and high end. This retails for $32 at sephora, which I believe is ridiculous, but I love the results so much, I would definitely repurchase.

Blush -Physicians Formula - Happy Booster™ Glow & Mood Boosting Blush in rose

this pink does not go well with my skin tone. it's too bright of a pink. it's very very pigmented in my opinion, so you do get a lot of product. it's a good blush, just not my color. and of course, it has a nice scent and the packaging is super cute.

Makeup Brushes -Sephora - Professionnel Platinum Air Brush #56
rated 5 of 5
tinyvessels 5/19/2012 8:50:00 PM

i LITERALLY love using this for liquid foundation. my favorite brush ever ever ever. (second would be elf's studio flat top powder brush) but this one wins by a landslide. I got this for $32 which is expensive to me, but the results are worth it. I was deciding between the 55 and the 56, but the SA told me this was so much better for liquid foundations. The small brush gives me a lot more control and really does give me a smooth, even, and airbrushed look. I'll stipple in problem areas if i want more coverage, but i just paint my foundation on and then swirl it out. this brush is literally magic. my foundation has never looked so natural in my life

Powder -Cover Girl - TRUblend Pressed Powder

I used this everyday to set my foundation. I actually hit pan on this, but there's still some product left. It's fairly inexpensive and it's a really good drugstore setting powder. It may be hard to color match yourself, but this is one of my favorite powders. I do have to reapply maybe once or twice throughout the day.

Powder -Sephora - Matifying Powder Foundation
rated 4 of 5
tinyvessels 5/14/2012 12:41:00 AM

i love this powder! it's only $20 which is expensive, but is pretty cheap for other powders sold at sephora. I apply with a big kabuki brush to set my foundation. It controls shine/oil for a while, but I still have to touch up midday and again if i'm going out at night. I'm used to having to reapply though. They have lots of shades so it's easy to choose your perfect shade. This is probably my favorite powder that I've tried so far. It makes my skin look really nice. I do get a little transfer with this product though. I love this a lot, but i'm still on the search for my HG setting powder.

Scrubs -Tree Hut - Tree Hut - Hawaiian Kukui Body Scrub
rated 3 of 5
tinyvessels 5/14/2012 12:17:00 AM

I bought this at ulta for about $5-6. It comes in an 18oz tub, so you get a lot of product for your money. It's a pretty standard scrub. I like it, but I'm not in love with it. I feel cleaner, but not moisturized enough. It doesn't leave a film of oil on your skin which I happened to like. It smells good, it's cheap, and it doesn't leave the bath tub slippery. I'd probably buy again.

Liquid -BeneFit Cosmetics - "Hello Flawless!" Oxygen Wow
rated 4 of 5

I have only worn this for a couple times so far, but I am in love. It makes my skin look soooo natural and I have never gotten that with any other foundation that i've tried so far (mainly drugstores.) but it is incredibly light and feels like i'm wearing barely anything. It also gives a good amount of coverage (evening out skintone/covering redness/toning down some acne scars.) I think this would look so good on dry skin types especially since it has a very dewy finish, but for reference, my skin is extremely oily. I use sephora's mattifying foundation as a setting powder and my skin looks so nice. Obviously after a couple of hours, the oil seeps through along with the dewy finish of the foundation, but I don't look greasy, I just look dewy (mainly my nose, under my eyes, and forehead). I don't mind touching up/reapplying powder since I'm used to it, plus I don't have to touch up as much. Love, love, love. My shade also blends in with my skin tone so well. I recommend going in to get color matched instead of buying it online. There's also a pump so it's easy to control how much product you use. The only drawback for me is the price :( i got mine for $34 + tax. I also wish it was less dewy, but this will have to do, plus my face felt brighter and looked smoother.

Lotions/ Creams -Nivea - Nivea Creme
rated 4 of 5
tinyvessels 5/1/2012 6:20:00 PM

i apply this at night and wake up with super soft skin. it's extremely thick, so it's hard to rub in (which is why I only use it before bed), but when it dries, your skin is so soft and moisturized. my legs also seem like it has a soft glow, or maybe i'm just hallucinating. the scent is nice and soft and this is inexpensive and comes in many sizes, i'd repurchase. This is so inexpensive and should be a staple in everyone's collection.

Eyeliner -Wet 'n' Wild - Mega Eyes Creme Eyeliner - Black
rated 5 of 5
tinyvessels 4/30/2012 7:52:00 PM

LOVE this. it's one of the few drugstore products that I will buy over and over again because I love it that much. I wear a winged liner pretty much everyday and this stuff stays put. (I have oily eyelids). I prefer this over many liquid liners because liquid liners/pens always get really messy. You get a lot of product for the price, which is good. The brush it comes with seems kind of cheap/bad, but I actually do think it does a great job with applying the liner and making the wing too. I hate how the handle is so short, but that's just a minor detail. You could use other angled liner brushes too. Overall, this product is a steal. You should definitely buy it if you're hesitating.

Liquid -Maybelline - Fit Me Foundation
rated 2 of 5
tinyvessels 4/30/2012 7:48:00 PM

ugh. I really wanted to like this foundation. This gives you a very dewy finish, which was not good for my oily skin! I always look even more oilier than normal when I wear it, even when I set it with a powder. I also sometimes get some transfer with this product. I also hate the packaging. There's no pump or anything, so you can't really control how much product you want (which is a total turn off for me in a foundation.) I always ended up pouring way more than necessary. It doesn't really have a smell and it provides okay (light ish) coverage. It's bad, but it wasn't horrendous enough to not wear everyday. I actually used up half of the bottle since I hated seeing $10 go to waste. I only wore it to school/places I don't really care about/when I'm not seeing anyone special. I would not buy again. If you're someone with dry or normal skin AND you're looking for a dewy finish and not heavy coverage, this might be an okay foundation for you. Otherwise, I don't recommend it.

Masks -Queen Helene - Mint Julep Masque
rated 3 of 5
tinyvessels 4/30/2012 7:37:00 PM

I remember loving this a couple years back, so much that i swore by it. I loved the scent and the tingly feeling of the mask. I would see less blackheads and smaller pores, but that's about it. I used to use it to spot treat pimples overnight, but it doesn't work so well. For reference, I have really oily skin and am acne prone. I bought the 8oz version in the tube and used this a couple of days ago and I realized I didn't like it as much as I used to. It's okay - does what a simple face mask would do, doesn't really help with my face feeling rejuvenated and getting rid of blackheads like it used to. I wouldn't buy again.
