Masks -LUSH - Cupcake Mask

Excellent face mask. All natural ingredients with a light scent (sandalwood and chocolate). This product actually works. Seriously, this actually works. I have somewhat oily acne prone skin and I bought this product to help my skin recover from a serious bout of cystic acne due to a reaction from a mineral makeup foundation. After the first application, I immediately noticed a difference. My skin was brighter and the irritated cystic breakouts on my face were soothed. My skin was also very soft. This mask contains rhassoul mud as a main ingredient, which I believe it a good natural treatment for acne. To help calm my skin, I used this mask everyday for a few days. My breakouts have been diminished and my skin is soft and smooth. I would defintely recommend this product for those with oily, acne prone skin. You'll notice a difference defintely. A note: this product must be kept in the refrigerator and has an expiration date of two-three weeks after purchase. It has all natural ingredients so use it up by the time it expires (don't learn the hard way like I did).

Lotions/ Creams -Bath and Body Works - Simply Divine Cherry Pie
rated 4 of 5
starrynight1 11/7/2007 6:11:00 PM

Oh yum! I am just sitting her sniffing my bottle. This is an absolutely tasty scent. I definitely smell the cherry and the buttery pie crust. Unfortunately, I just smell cherry with some vanilla after a while on my skin. But this lotion is very moisturizing, even for my eczema ridden skin. Definitely recommend this and the 3-in-1.

Well I am quite surprised by this perfume. I thought it might be quite fruity, but it really isn't. Its difficult to describe, I definitely smell the patchouli, but it isn't overpowering, nauseating or headache inducing. Its actually a light, powdery fragrance, with the smallest hint of fruit. It almost has a manly edge to it, but it still retains its femininity. I really like it, but I would not recommend this to anyone who doesn't like notes of patchouli (I know the ones who exist!).

Mascara -Unlisted Brand - Global Goddess Exotic Lash Building Mascara
rated 2 of 5

Ugh! I really wanted to like this mascara. I was quite excited to see a mascara that claimed to not only volumize and darken (really blacken) the lashes, but one that seemed to have so many good ingredients meant to make your lashes healthy (and waterproof!!). This mascara was a total mess! It is a complete lie that this mascara is smudge-proof and water resistant. At the end of the day I end up with greasy black smudges not unlike a football player's black facial stripes. This product contains "A rich blend of Japanese camellia oil and Indian mowrah butter" that will "soften, smooth, and enhance gloss, while African beeswax builds and strengthens each lash to shape and separate for lavishly long lashes". Yeah, when you wear this mascara you can definitely tell it is full of different sticky butters and oils. To me, it seemed more like some darkening cream to moisturize the skin than mascara. Your lashes will stick together, giving the wonderfully dreaded spider-lash look. BUT I did give this mascara two lippies because this does live up to one of its claims; it makes lashes VERY VERY black.

Styling Products -Paul Mitchell - Super Skinny Serum
rated 5 of 5
starrynight1 8/5/2007 11:59:00 PM

This product is as awesome as the other reviews have stated. I have tried tons of products on my mixed african/asian hair. This makes my hair very soft and makes flat ironing a breeze. I also use it liberally on days when I leave my hair curly. The smell is quite fruity, much like apples, but not so fruity that it would irritate. One thing though, I'm not quite sure if it makes the drying time for my hair quicker.

Fragrances -Estee Lauder - Tom Ford Black Orchid

I so wanted to like this. It seemed like such a wonderful perfume, strong, dark, lovely packaging, sophisticated, lovely body oil, soap, etc. But this smelled horrible! The first sniff smelled like rancid fruit or something of that nature. I gave it two lippys for the pretty noir bottle and the fact that once you get past that rotten top note, you may just have a lovely, vanilla fragrance.

Mascara -Too Faced - Lash Injection
rated 2 of 5
starrynight1 6/5/2007 3:13:00 PM

Top notch mascara. Gives thick, black, long lashes, although it seems to take a few coats to do so. Also long lasting, waterproof and smudgeproof. Good for me since my eyes get oily and sweaty. Definitely worth the purchase. Better than my old favorites, Benefit BadGal, Diorshow and Bobbi Brown No Smudge. Brings the best of all those together. Now, I took off one lippy because this mascara is a nuisance to remove. It almost sloughs off, its somewhat odd. But once you learn how to remove it properly, you can avoid losing eyelashes. Also, I'm not that found of the smell. Kinda chemically sweet. EDIT: I have bumped this down to two because, after a few months use, I noticed that I have missing eyelashes (or areas where my eyelashes are growing back, and they are much shorter in certain areas). I like the fake eyelash look, but this is just bad for the eyes!!!

Scrubs -Philosophy - Sweet Coconut Milk Salt Scrub
rated 4 of 5
starrynight1 6/4/2007 5:24:00 PM

This is a very good salt scrub, although its not the best. I first tried this on my heels. It didn't do much, but my heels are pretty dry and rough. The rest of my body is a different story. This works very well, made my skin smooth and kinda smells like a cross between cocoa butter and coconut (leaning more towards cocoa butter). The tub is also enormous, which is great because this costs about $25. Another thing, this product isn't super oily. While natural oils usually work well for my skin, they often leave a nasty film on my bathtub making the surface quite slippery. Thank goodness I didn't have to worry about that with this product. The only downside to not having the natural oils (olive oil, jojoba, grapeseed, etc.) is that this scrub isn't as moisturizing as some others are.

Mascara -Dejavu (Imju) - Fiberwig Lash Knockout
rated 3 of 5
starrynight1 6/4/2007 5:11:00 PM

Ok I don't hate this mascara as much as others, but it isn't all that special either, especially for the price. I have tried tons of mascaras and this one is just, ok. I could see the fibers on the brush, yes that was special. When I put it on, I did get separation and some length, but it should be noted that I was blessed with long lashes already, so it didn't do that much. This didn't seem to smudge either, which is good. But I like volume and thick black color. This did not do this at all. I don't plan to purchase this (thank God for sephora).

Eye Makeup Remover -Neutrogena - Oil Free eye makeup remover
rated 5 of 5
starrynight1 5/14/2007 11:29:00 PM

Wow, is all I have to say about this product. Its a lot cheaper that the lancome bi-facil I used to use and works without irritating my very sensitive eyes. Its not overly oily and works without a whole lot of "scrubbing" and tugging. Plus its very moisturizing. Doesn't dry my eyes out.

Top/Base Coats -Sally Hansen - No Chip

Ok, I suppose I'm in the minority here. I don't understand what is so fantastic about this top coat, except for the price. It made my nail polish crack for some odd reason and then specks of nail polish went flying everywhere when I engaged in any activity using my hands! It was embarrassing! I doubt I applied this wrong, I followed the directions and only applied a thin coat. Maybe I just have bad luck :(

Polishes -OPI - Lincoln Park After Dark
rated 5 of 5
starrynight1 1/28/2007 9:35:00 PM

Absolutely lovely! This near black purple shade of nail polish looks awesome with my brown skin. In the dark it looks black, unless you look at it closely. So like i've read on other reviews, its a great shade for those too scared for black (although I have black as well). I think its a very vampy glamorous shade so don't be afraid to try it. The wear is ok. In other words, if you don't wear a top coat it will chip. Definitely will buy again.

Fragrances -Demeter - Sex on the Beach

I got this in a lovely swap and I am very disappointed. I smelled alcohol for a bit and now it smells like those bad spray air freshners. Terrible and headache inducing! Luckily, this seems to fade easily...which is good cause I can't stand it!

Fragrances -Stella McCartney - Stella In Two
rated 3 of 5
starrynight1 10/12/2006 4:18:00 PM

This scent is very light (so light that I had to really stick my nose to my wrist to take it all in) and not offensive at all. But it is entirely forgettable. It smells very similar to most other floral perfumes that are being sold today. To top that off, its only a eau de toilette, so this seemed to fade very quickly. The packaging is cute (a square light pink bottle) but not that easy to grip. The scent reminded me of a nice smelling shampoo. It says "peony" but i'm not sure that this smells like peony. Apparently there is a solid perfume that one can purchase in addition to this bottle that smells like amber. These two can be combined to create a custom scent. I have yet to smell that one. The bottle is nice, but I don't plan on buying it.

Liquid -L'Oreal - HIP Flawless Liquid Makeup [DISCONTINUED]
rated 4 of 5
starrynight1 10/3/2006 8:57:00 PM

This foundation is awesome! I see a lot of people complaining that the lightest color was too dark. Finally, people know how those with darker complexions feel. I got this foundation in terra and it actually fit my skin color without being too light! Honestly, most foundations do not cater to darker skin tones, so its nice to finally find something that doesn't make me look pasty. I currently use MAC NW45 and while I love MAC, I think this provides more coverage for nights and business occasions. This didn't get 5 lippies because it was a bit oily, but that was easily corrected with blotting sheets. All in all, great coverage, good color, nice product.
