Moisturizers -Philosophy - Hope in a Jar - for all skin types
starbuck65 4/23/2013 10:35:00 PM
Used this years and years ago, I thought it smelled odd but I not only got used to it, I grew to love the scent. It was just a moisturizer for my normal skin back then, now years later I wear it under my FoP because I love that it gently exfoliates my skin as well as brightening my skin. I had stopped using it for years but I gave it another go and glad that I did, it just takes a bit of time to reap the rewards of this basic but great product. I have dry skin so this is not enough moisture for me, the HiaJ dry? Meh, the HiaJ Night...LOVE that one!
I bought this the first time in my mid 30's, it was okay, I didn't really need an eye cream...SInce turning 40 my under eyes had become incredibly dry, I tried tons of products, came back to this and soooo glad I did. It's the best! It's a cream but not thick, it's hydrating and did an AMAZING job of completely firming and de-wrinkling my under eye area. That's all I wanted and needed and it performed better than I thought possible. HG! The end!
I'm on my second jar of this. I felt as though my skin looked more firm after using this and I really like the formula, thick but not greasy, moisturizing but not overly...I returned to PX to repurchase and the gal suggested I try the Miracle Worker, she said I didn't need FoP (probably because it worked and I wasn't sagging) I tried the 2 oz jar of MW, half way through it I went back and purchased another jar of FoP. I prefer it, I didn't think MW did much and definitely noticed the difference when I stopped using this. I'll continue. It doesn't irritate my skin, it moisturizes, it firms and wears well under makeup. I know a lot of people mention that Philosophy is pricey but it's a 2 oz jar for $65.00, most moisturizers are 1 oz and $30 or more so I think ounce for ounce it's reasonably priced.
Best exfoliator I've used. It takes very little product to do the job. The orange crystal part of it can be too abrasive for some, especially those with sensitive skin, like me but on damp skin, it's fine. The activator foams up, it's slightly warming, leave on 1-2 minutes...VOILA! I use mine only once a week, I've been using it for years and stopped trying out other products years ago, this is the best. It leaves my skin smoother, brighter, fresher and it does, over time, lessen fine lines.
Moisturizers -Equate - Face & Neck Cream Advanced Firming & Anti-Wrinkle
starbuck65 12/7/2012 10:15:00 PM
I don't know what happened to my neck...I can tell you that this stuff did a better job than jars of NV Perricone Firming Neck. Clarins is pretty good, Murad is pretty good, Perricone did nothing. None of them did what I needed them to do. My neck was starting to look crepe-y. Regular moisturizers don't fix that,...who knew? I just happend to be at Walmart, saw this, it was 7 dollars and change and I was desperate. It is fantastic. I'm so happy I picked this up. This is an knock off of L'Oreal, I do not like L'Oreal generally speaking and I rarely buy drugstore skincare aside from Cetaphil or Bio-Oil. I'm glad I picked this up! My neck looked loads better even after a few days, it's definitely moisturized, not greasy, looks more firm even after a few days, it's amazing. It feels nice as well, it even feels more elastic, even after the first time I used it. What a difference! Maybe you're neck has to look a wreck to notice the difference tyqat quickly, I don't know. I might even try it on my face for a few days and let you know how that works out. I will never buy another expensive neck cream again and I'm glad I tried the Equate version first! I'm sold.
I cannot believe I've been wearing this on and off since the day it was released and never reviewed it. I'm actually on my 4th tube? I love this however, I can see why some do not. A lot of people say that it looks/feels heavy, it's hard to apply....It looks like a cream but it is, in fact, a gel(ish) foundation so application is key. Once I figured it out, it does not look heavy or cakey and it lasts all day. I have dry skin PLUS I just moved to Colorado a few months ago. The foundations I once thought were great don't look so hot anymore in this dry climate. I LOVE THIS on my dry skin. It looks so good and it doesn't dry me out and really makes me look less dry. How I apply...moisturize, prime...I dot a bit where I want, stipple out with the Sigma F84 as it is less dense than the others or just apply tiny amounds and blend with my fingers...but it blends well...THEN I gently stipple/press with a beauty blender just to make sure there's no excess and it's pressed in (think Shiseido SP Liquid Foundation). That method works really well for me. I can't imagine just applying this as you would any other foundation as it would apply heavy-looking, I think the fact that it looks like a cream but is a gel-based foundation throws us off, application is just different. I love it, keep coming back to it and it's perfect for dry skin/dry climate.
Treatments -Burt's Bees - Lemon Butter Cuticle Cream
starbuck65 10/28/2012 1:26:00 AM
For those of you who don't remember....this used to come in a jar with a screw on/off lid. It's true! I still have my jar to depot the product from the tin. The jar was a full ounce...wish they'd bring it back! I want to say that what comes in the tin may be a different consistency but as far as cuticle care, I love this! My cuticles are so ratty looking without it despite buying every product known to women...this has been the best. I use it every night and my cuticles look great! I do apply a few times a day as well after washing my hands. For winter, this is a must have but I will add this is the only Burt's Bees product I actually like.
This oil is fantastic for dry skin on my face. My undereye area is ridiculous! I only bought this yesterday. I already have dry skin and worse I moved to Colorado, that's not the bad part, the dry air here is horrible on my skin. I looked ancient! I actually tried this over my makeup yesterday and knew immediately I was a fan. Last night I applied all over my face and neck, after my shower this morning I applied all over my face and neck again before my moisturzer and eye cream. My face did not look even the slightest bit dry ALL DAY! After I washed and used my clarisonic this evening, my skin still felt and looked great and soft and NOT DRY! So soft! Unbelievable! I did read that it evens skin tone quite well and I'm excited for that. My neck and chest already look loads better after 24 hours of use, my skin has never been this moisturized, NOT greasy! I love it! I'll update if/when I see other signs of improvement such as evening of tone and fine line reduction (which this does immediately for the lines you think are fine lines but are just dry or dehydrated). I'll even try it on my scars!
Misc Beauty Tools -Rembrandt - 2-Hour Whitening Kit
starbuck65 10/26/2012 11:09:00 PM
I've used a lot of whitening products of the years, first with the products I used to get from my dentist. I do like Crest WhiteStrips, this is better for me. It whitens better and faster. Absolutely no sensitivity which is unusual for me. I used it the first time just doing one 20 minute tx and the results were equal to about 3 days with Crest. I haven't done the entire tx of 4 applications but I will try that, I did not use the tray provided in the kit, I applied the gel with a q-tip and used the trays I had made by my dentist. I used one ampule for top and bottom so the kit is quite ecomomical plus it comes with a coupon for future purchase.
Not a fan. I personally love Neosporin Lip Health. Took a few days to love that one as it's thin and doesn't feel as though it will wear for any period of time but it lasts all night and it's fantastic! My HG! Well, they were sold out so I was perusing the counters at the mall, ran across the Kiehl's and grabbed the Vanilla. It does feel nice going on however, I find that I have to apply every 10-15 minutes. It is a petroleum based balm but it is more than just vaseline. On me, it doesn't work any better than just vaseline. It does look nice over lipstick. I have been using it all day, every day and giving it a chance but I'm not impressed. I'll just chuck it my purse and use it on my cuticles. Not a total waste.
Lancome is not a bad brand but I haven't had luck with anything but their mascaras and concealers. This product is fragranced, it burned as soon as I applied it and my face turned blood red and welts appeared within minutes. It could well be the fragrance, I won't continue using. I don't know why Lancome products don't work for me any more than I know why I continue to try. Not good on sensitive skin. I am mystified as to why companies fragrance their products. Unnecessary!
Buy again? It'll last a really long time so not sure that I'd need to, it's 2.3 oz Fragrance free? Not quite but certainly not as fragranced as the others. This is a bit light to even lightly dust over my fair/medium skin, maybe in the winter it'll be better. What I've been using this for is to set my undereye concealer. It's surprisingly less drying (actually not dry looking at all) than anything else I've used. It's really brightening, REALLY brightening, non drying and sheer. I apply with a big, fluffy blending brush creating the upside down triangle first, then one sweep right under my eyes. Beats Laura Mercier Brightening powder, BeneFit powders, better than BeneFit EyeBright, YSL Touche Eclat, BM Well Rested and better than all of the HD powders I've used..I'm really happy I tried this under my eyes before getting rid of it! It's really inexpensive....considering you get 2.3 oz, it's practically free :) Also...it does work well as a highlight on your cheekbone, I just started using it this way as well and it left me wondering why I have so many hightlighting products. This works great! If you find it's too light all over, this could be another option for you. It's really beautiful. Funny, I find it highlights and reflects light well on my cheekbones but I don't find it shimmery under my eyes? Just bright. So, if you have this and didn't care for it, try it this way before you give up on it. I believe the drugstores that carry it have great return policies if you don't love it and I know my Walmart stocks it as well so it's pretty easy to find!.
Conditioner -Sexy Hair Concepts - Leave-In Conditioner Spray
starbuck65 9/3/2012 2:55:00 AM
This is the only leave in conditioner that I love and use. I have baby fine hair, this conditions, detangles and doesn't weigh my hair down at all. LOVE IT! I'll never use another leave in, I've tried dozens, I've been hooked on this for the last 2 years. HG!
Conditioner -Clairol - Herbal Essences-Color Me Happy
starbuck65 9/3/2012 2:51:00 AM
I've written a lot of reviews but never for shampoo or conditioner. I heard about this from a gal on YouTube. I DO NOT like the Color Me Happy shampoo at all but the conditioner? It's the best. I have processed (over-processed at times) hair, it's baby fine, this moisturizes better than anything I've ever used without weighing my hair down. If my hair gets particularly dry I sometimes use Hello Hydration shampoo but I hate the smell of that one. The Color Me Happy smells good, works great and I always, always keep it in my shower. I've repurchased so many times. For reference I love Abba, for deep cleansing, PM Shampoo 3, reconstructor I like BioSilk Fruit Cocktail, sometimes Joico K-pak but that dries my hair and that's especially when I use this product (you have to moisturize after protein). BioSilk isn't drying but I always follow with this conditioner, leave in Healthy Sexy Hair Soy Tri-wheat. I cannot stand going to the salon, the conditioners never do well with my hair, I just want to wash my hair and put that back in and get my hair back to normal. Love it!
I wish they'd put "maybe" for repurchase but given the choice of yes or no, I'd lean yes. Comes in a pump. The plastic applicator is ridiculous. It does nothing and I just squirt it on my finger and apply. The first 2 times I used it, it had a heated sensation but that means it's working, right? I'm kidding. It didn't burn after that, like I said on the other reviews, use it for 4 weeks then decide (unless it's irritating your skin). It states that it reduces puffiness. Immediately, like a caffeine-laden eye product? NO. Over time? We'll see, it's only been 2 weeks. Brightening? Poosibly a bit. Firming? Anti-wrinkle? Now that I've used it for 2 weeks I'd say yes, a bit. Nothing dramatic but I'd lean more for the anti-wrinkle than anything. I still have to use another anti-puffiness product. I tried for a few days without and wasn't happy but maybe I didn't give it a fair chance. Guess we'll never know because I like my caffeinated products. I don't know that I'd repurchase individually, mine came in a kit. If I bought another kit, I'd use it. I'll update in 2 more weeks and let you know, but it's not horrible, I do like it. Oh, and it is a treatment, not a moisturizer so if you have dry skin under your eyes, you might need an additional moisturizer over it. It took a few days for me to like this enough to continue using it.
