Shampoo -Unlisted Brand - Mirta De Perales Herbal Fresh Shampoo
renia22 6/19/2013 11:46:00 AM
I purchased this shampoo online after reading amazon reviews that it 's a dupe for the original green clariol herbal essence shampoo from the 1970s, which was discontinued in 2003. This shampoo is an emerald green color like herbal essence, lathers well and rinses clean. It leaves my fine hair clean, shiny and without tangles or residue. I don't think it smells like the original herbal essence, though. It does have a similar "green" herbal scent, so it's in the same fragrance " family", but its not an exact match. I do like this shampoo, however, and might buy more when I run out. It pairs well with the balsam ctonditioner from the same company. You can find it online in 4, 8 & 16 ounce sizes.
I purchased this since it is marketed as a gel, and I was hoping it would work on my acne prone skin. The ingredients looked good on cosdna.com; I will not buy anything for my face without checking there first that the ingredients are non acne causing. The texture is like slime, however. It burns my face as slightly and does not rub in well, leaving a sheen. It also balls up, especially if you use aha or bha the night before, so I have to use a towel to wipe my face afterwards, then an oil absorbing sheet after that. Not what I was expecting, I thought it would be a fast absorbing gel with minimal residue, which it's not. I paid $10 on drugstore.com. I will use it up but I probably would not buy it again. I do appreciate that it doesn't aggravate my acne so I give it 3 stars.
Polishes -Sinful - Shine nail polish with gel tech
renia22 5/13/2013 4:52:00 PM
Walgreens has these for $2.99 so I bought a couple of them to try. They are supposed to be similar to gel nail polishes with extra shine. The colors I chose were 'mardi gras', a mango orange shade, and 'yours truly', a bubble gum pink. These go on smoothly & are almost opaque with one coat. Minimal streaks, high shine and good wear. After 3-4 days on my toe nails, still no chips. The 'mardi gras' does not look good on me, but 'yours truly' is a lovely bubble gum pink shade. I will definitely try some of the other colors. Very shiny & you only need 2 coats for a nice opaque finish. Takes a while to dry, though. Edit 5/31- over a week on my toenails & no chips! I like this polish so much, I went back and bought wisp (a creamy white) & alfresco (a periwinkle blue cream)
Lotions/ Creams -Unlisted Brand - Fruit Of The Earth Aloe Vera After Sun Lotion
renia22 4/25/2013 4:21:00 PM
I have been looking everywhere for a few of the lotions from this company and they seem to only sell the cream and aloe gel in my area. Luckily I found this on drugstore.com for $5.99 for a large 16 ounce pump bottle. I absolutely love the texture of this lotion. It's between the texture of a lotion and gel, similar to a light/airy balm. It spreads easily and absorbs quickly. It's not totally natural, but it does contain some good ingredients. The scent is very, very light and unobtrusive. A fresh, light balsam scent that fades to almost nothing after a few minutes. This stuff is fantastic & very affordable! Ingredients: Aloe Vera (Aloe Barbadensis) Gel, Water, Glycerin, Hybrid Sunflower Oil, Stearic Acid, Cetearyl Alcohol, Glycol Stearate SE, Chamomila Recuita (Matricaria) Extract, Lemongrass (Cymbopogon Schoenanthus) Extract, Hops Extract, Rosmarinus Officinalis (Rosemary) Extract, Balm Mint (Melissa Officinalis) Extract, Tocopheryl Acetate (Vitamin E), Retinyl Acetate (Vitamin A), Sodium Lauryl Sulfate, Magnesium Aluminium Silicate, Dimethicone, Triethanolamine, Phenoxyethanol, Methylparaben, Ethylparaben, Propylparaben, Butylparaben, Fragrance
Lotions/ Creams -Unlisted Brand - Century Systems Seven Wonders Miracle Lotion

I picked up this lotion from luckyvitamin.com after reading all of the glowing reviews from there & amazon. This lotion comes in an 8 ounce pump bottle for around $7-$10 depending on where you buy it (I have only seen it online). The lotion itself is very silky and light gives the skin a bit of a sheen. The scent is strong, a pineapple/mango scent. The scent is just okay to me, there are other summery / tropical scented lotions that I like a little better and this one is a little too potent. But overall it's a nice light, but still moisturizing lotion. Ingredients: Purified Water, Canola Oil, Glycerine, Olive Oil, Safflower Oil, Sweet Alomnd Oil, Sesame Oil, Castor Oil, Safflower Oil, Vitamin D, Cyclomethicone, Mineral Oil & Polyquaterium-32, Aloe Vera Gel, DL Panthenol, Propylene Glycol, Sheep Sorrell, Yarrow, Slippery Elm Bark, Sage, Henna, Comfrey, Burdock Root, Goldenseal, Cherry Bark, Black Walnut, Chamomile, Alfalfa, Hyssop, Wheat Germ, Ginseng, Vitamin A, Vitamin E, Allantoin, Dicetyldimonium Chloride, Diazolidinyl Urea & Idopropynyl Butylcarbamate, and Fragrance.
This is a light lotion that absorbs quickly, isn't greasy, but still moisturizes nicely. The texture is light & fluid. The sweet vanilla/orange creamsicle scent is one of my favorites. The old packaging was so much better, though. The bottom was round so it didn't constantly fall over like this one does. You can get it for about $9 online for a 12 ounce pump bottle. They also make bar soap, shower gel, hand soap, body mist, body butter, shampoo, conditioner, lip balm, body oil and bath salts.
They had this shampoo, plus a few others, from the Timotei line at a Polish grocery store, and since it was only $4 plus change I decided to try it. My hair is fine & gets oily and flat looking if I don't wash it daily, but the ends get dry & tangled with the wrong products. This shampoo cleansed my hair and rinsed clean without tangling it in the shower. It has a strong green tea scent. Since they did not have the matching conditioner, I used Aubrey Organics volumizing chamomile conditioner with it. My hair was left clean, shiny and residue free. I really like this shampoo and would probably buy it again.
Lotions/ Creams -Hawaiian Tropic - Lime Coolada Moisturizer
renia22 4/12/2013 12:41:00 PM
This lotion smells so delicious. If anyone remembered and loved the now discontinued Bath & Body Works Coconut Lime Verbena, this one I was pleasantly surprised to find smells very similar. It does have a weird chemical sort of note when you first put it on, but it disappears after a few minutes and you're left with a yummy, creamy, tropical coconut lime scent. Many companies have tried to duplicate the coconut lime scent & some smell cheap, synthetic, cloy or fake. But this one gets it's right. As a moisturizer I think it absorbs quickly while still leaving skin soft. Ulta has these for $8.99 but they had a special buy one get one 50% off, plus I had a coupon, so I paid $5 each. Walmart has it for cheaper.
Thankfully I tried only a small tube of this from one of those sample packages, because if I had wasted my money on a huge tube of this I would have been upset. This thick substance has a texture like vaseline and it smells like coconut in a very fake, cloying way. It's greasy, doesn't absorb well, and on me it didn't have any kind of lasting effect at all. Even the tiny tube that I had I didn't use up, it went in the trash, I disliked it that much.
Deodorants -Avon - Cool Confidence Roll On Antiperspirant
renia22 4/10/2013 3:14:00 PM
Cool Confidence is a great oldie but goodie deodorant from Avon. I have been using Avon deodorants on & off since the 80s, and this is one of my favorites. It has a nice, clean scent, and works well on odor and wetness. This is one of the few scented deodorants that I can tolerate the smell of. It might take a few minutes to dry, but doesn't stain clothes. Regular price is $1 for the small one and $2 for the bonus size, but sometimes they are even cheaper on sale.
Skincare - Body -Banana Boat - After Sun Lotion with Aloe
renia22 4/10/2013 3:07:00 PM
I remember this lotion from childhood & my teenage years since my mother used to buy it in the summertime. It's a fast absorbing yet still moisturizing lotion that is perfect for summer months. The smell is so nostalgic for me, it reminds me of summertime and the way some suntan lotions used to smell in the 70s & 80s. Not tropical (pineapple/coconut) and not strong or cloy. Just a warm, balsam-y, sun kissed, summery smell. The smell doesn't assault you all day either, but you can still smell it if you put your nose up to your arm. I like to use it on my arms and legs, and during the day as a hand lotion. I wouldn't expect it to heal sunburns or anything like that (I use pure aloe for that), but it's great as an everyday lotion. Walmart has it for $5 (16 ounce pump), but many store sell it. It's usually around $5-$6.
Skincare - Body -Aubrey Organics - 100% Aloe Vera Gel
renia22 4/10/2013 2:59:00 PM
This aloe is more of a liquid, since it's 99% pure & does not contain fillers like many aloe gels on the market. This is just aloe and vitamins C & E as a preservative. You do need to store it in the fridge after opening. I use this on my scalp with a drop or two of rosemary essential oil to help with hair shedding. I also take this on beach trips, since my son who is very fair often gets sunburns even with spf 100. Last summer when we went to Cape Cod his back and nose/cheeks were burned so I dabbed this on with a cotton ball before bed & by morning there was a vast improvement. I have gone through several bottle of this aloe and will continue to buy. I usually get it online (iherb.com, vitacost.com) for $7 for 4 ounces.
Hair -Bath and Body Works - Honey Sweetheart Instant Hair Highlighter
renia22 4/1/2013 1:28:00 PM
This is a spray on hair highlighter for hair, to temporarily add streaks of bronze/gold. This comes in an aerosol can and comes out in a sharp burst, so you have to move your hand quickly so you don't get a build up in one spot. The color is a bright, shimmery gold bronze. Great for brown or black hair. It does fade pretty quickly, and it's expensive at $12.50 for 3.5 ounces. The thing I really don't like about it is the strong, fake, cheap perfume scent. It's very, very strong too and you smell it anywhere you spray it and in your hair. I feel like I sprayed cheap cologne in my hair, it's that bad. Otherwise I would have liked it for the cool color.
Fragrances -Aubrey Organics - Almond Bliss Body Spritzer
renia22 1/19/2013 10:06:00 AM
These Aubrey Organic Body Spritzers are found at Whole Foods and must be new, I had never seen them before and they aren't listed on the website. They are available in various scents, though I can't remember them all now (there was a tangerine, berry, lemon verbena, almond bliss & one or two more). They are packaged in a 4 ounce plastic spray bottle, and the bottle seems to be pretty sturdy. The almond bliss scent is pretty fake, though. Although I do like a good almond scent (like Caswell Massey Almond & Aloe), this one crossed into the artificial/ sickly sweet range. It cost $7.99. They do have testers available at Whole Foods, but for some reason it did not smell so bad in the store.
Conditioner -Unlisted Brand - Mirta De Perales Balsam Conditioner
renia22 1/14/2013 5:08:00 PM
This conditioner, though hard to find, in fantastic on my fine, oilier at roots, drier at ends hair. It contains vitamin E, avocado oil, wheat germ protein & balsam. Those who remember Revlon Flex, the texture is similar (light, airy, spreads easily) but the scent is lighter and fresher. It conditions and detangles very well without weighing my hair down or leaving it coated. Dare I say, it even gives me some body. I am not sure where in the US this can be purchased ( I have only seen the keratin line from this brand at Walmart), but you can find it online. I paid $4 plus shipping for 4 ounces and I just ordered the larger size for $8 plus shipping. Ingredients: Deionized Water, Stearamidopropyl Dimethylamine (and) Glycol Stearate (and) Ceteth-2, Behentrimonium Methosulfate (and) Cetearyl Alcohol, Behenamidopropyl PG-Dimonium Chloride, Balsam Peru, Cetyl Alcohol, Stearyl Alcohol, Isopropyl Myristate, Propylene Glycol, Fragrance, Phosphoric Acid, PEG-150 Distearate, Vitamin E, Wheat Germ Protein, Avocado Oil, Methyl Paraben, Propyl Paraben, DMDM Hydantoin, FD&C Yellow No. 5.
