Hair Color -Ion - Color Brilliance - Demi Permanent Hair Color
nattyngeorge 5/23/2013 3:10:00 AM
I really liked this dye. I have medium chocolate brown hair and due to heat styling regularly and using bleach (ombre, past highlights) my hair was several shades of brown. I went out and purchased Medium Warm Brown (4W) hoping to keep the same depth of color, but make my hair one solid color. I first used Ion Color Corrector to lift any color buildup from my hair, blow dried and then used Ion Pre-Color Treatment all over my hair to even the porosity of my hair for even color (mainly so I won't get light roots and dark ends). I used a Tangle Teezer to evenly coat my hair. Then I applied the dye as directed with 10 volume developer. I left it in for 25 minutes (which could have been too long, but by the 20 minute mark my roots didn't look dark enough - since they were super light from the color corrector). Well, I ended up with fabulous, even color.. but the only thing wrong is that my hair is JET BLACK. Much more like a level 2. Way darker than what I wanted. Most reviews say to pick a shade that is two shades lighter than what you want. Make sure to do that. I will repurchase this brand of hair dye, but I will for sure go two shades lighter for medium-dark brown. Also, this dye stains the skin worse than any other dye I have used. Make sure to use vaseline around your hairline.
Styling Products -TRESemme - Instant Heat Tamer Spray
nattyngeorge 11/14/2012 11:57:00 AM
I've gone through a few bottles of this stuff, so I'm able to let you know how I feel about this product very well. I heat style my hair a few days out the week for several years, so I've been through many heat protectants. I've repurchased the Tresemme one more than any of the others for these reasons: 1) It's very cheap, and it's available everywhere. No hunting it down, as Tresemme is sold at every major drugstore, Walmart, etc. 2) The packaging is great. I love that it's a spray, so no sticky or greasy hands. YAY! 3) It smells great! 4) No matter how much I spray, it doesn't weigh down my hair, or make my hair look oily or greasy. Still bouncey as ever! 5) I DO notice a difference when I'm being lazy and don't use this vs. when I do use this. My ends aren't as brittle and my hair breaks less. I was skeptical when I used this - I never really thought it did anything. But, it wasn't until I finished a bottle I decided I wanted it again. I am use to using heat protecting serums, which make the hair feel soft, silky and make my ends look shiny (Fantasia IC Heat Polisher for example). I expected the same from this product. When it didn't make my hair soft-ER or shiny-ER, I thought it wasn't working. So I neglected using it and noticed how I much my ends would break. The following time I'd use the heat protector and no breakage! So don't be fooled. Many heat protectors simply coat your hair in silicone which will make your hair temporarily feel really soft and silky, and that feeling will go away by the next day, and you'll need to coat your hair in it again and again until you have loads of build-up in your hair. Yes, this product contains silicones, but not nearly as much as others I've tried. Buy it!
Pink Pearl Pop debuted in the MAC Cremesheen + Pearl Collection at the end of Summer '12. All shades in the collection are now a part of the permanent collection. Pink Pearl Pop (Cremesheen) is a very girly and subtly warm, mid-tone vibrant pink. If you're feeling like you want to wear something other than your average muted pink (MAC Hue, Creme Cup, etc) but don't want something very bright and in-your-face, Pink Pearl Pop is a great median. The pigmentation is sheer, and buildable to medium coverage. It has a shiny balm-like finish. As with most Cremesheen formulas, Pink Pearl Pop feels moisturizing and comfortable on the lips. The wear time could be better. Because it's sheer, it fades quickly and won't really last though meals, etc. Cremesheens irritate me because they are so prone to melting or tilting in the tube. Because the lipstick is very firm, and because this color is sheer, I like to pile it on. After my first use, the bullet is already rubbing against the inside of the tube. I was conscious not to apply much pressure too. Oh well. Bound to happen.
I love trax. I don't know if there is anything I can say that hasn't been said before. It's a multidimensional neutral purple with gold shimmer. It's not crazy pigmented, but I use a MAC Paint Pot as a base and then pack on the color with a sponge applicator or a synthetic concealer brush and I get opaque coverage. I wear it all over the lid and on my lower lashline and smudge a matte burgundy-plum or brown in the crease. Love it!
MAC Hot Gossip Lipstick is described as a mid-tone pinky plum. I'd like to call it a grown-up pink - your progression from baby pinks and nudes. It looks quite boring in the tube when you look at it in indoor lighting, but in the sunlight, you really get to see how complex and pretty this pink is. It kind of reminds me of a more pigmented, brighter and pinker Rimmel Airy Fairy. Hot Gossip brings color to my face without being too bright, and makes my lips look a bit more noticeable and full. I think it's a shade that will work on many skintones from warm to cool, light and dark. It's a cremesheen formula, so it applies smooth and is opaque with a few swipes of the tube. Will repurchase.
Mascara -Eyeko - Skinny Brush Mascara (Long &Tall)
nattyngeorge 10/22/2012 2:09:00 AM
I'll make this review short and sweet. This mascara is awesome. It lengthens, builds volume incredibly well, keeps my lashes curled, holds up well throughout the day without flaking and very minimal to no smudging. The only problems I encounter is sometimes it can make my lashes clumpy, and that it's difficult to remove. It's not terribly difficult, but it doesn't come off as easy as my other mascaras. I also shed lashes each time I remove this mascara, which bothers me a little bit. Nevertheless, I love the way my lashes look when I wear this mascara and will repurchase.
MAC Bombshell Lipstick is a soft rosy pink with pink and golden shimmer. It's a frost formula lipstick, so if you don't like frost, this might not be a lipstick for you - but for reference, I can tolerate many of MAC's Frost Lipsticks as the actual formula is nice and they don't tend to be overly frosty. The lipstick is smooth (non-gritty and dry like many frost lipsticks) and applies just as silky as any of their other formulas. It has a satin finish, but if it was a bit more glossy I'd love this lipstick so much more. I think it has a tendency to sometimes looks a little dull on my lips, but it's nothing a little gloss doesn't fix. I've read that it looks great when layered with MAC Nymphette Lipglass, although I just grab any similar pink gloss and it always looks nice. I notice that when I'm tanner (NC35), it looks more cool toned on my lips, and when I'm lighter (NC25), it looks a bit more rosy. I think Pink Icing would've been an appropriate name, because that's almost what it looks like on my lips. It's a fabulous shade for every-day, and if you're in the market for a frosty pink that doesn't make you look like a porn-star, check out MAC Bombshell.
Lipstick -Edward Bess - Ultra Slick Lipstick in Secret Desire
nattyngeorge 10/22/2012 2:01:00 AM
Secret Desire is a beautiful, creamy natural peachy-pink. Although it looks rather peach in the tube (almost like Nars Belle De Jour) but it's most certainly pink. It's soft, neutral and perfect for every day. Many like describing it as a "my lips but better shade, and for light skin tones it is! For medium -dark skin tones it'd work great as a nude. Secret Desire is very creamy, yet a bit slippery - kind of like a YSL Rouge Volupte, but not as drying and longer-lasting. Secret Desire has medium to opaque coverage and a lustrous finish. Even after several layers, the lipstick still manages to feel thin and so lightweight on my lips. It's an overall fantastic formula. It has a light, sweet fruity smell which I can smell each time I apply it, which I've read is the scent of wild figs. I absolutely love the smell. Here's a photo of Secret Desire on my lips - http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-Smx5hU4TQkM/UFqSKBTCLwI/AAAAAAAAJxs/EnZ8lUTXPzA/s1600/edward-bess-secret-desire-swatch.jpg
Constantinople is a very pretty deep, neutral rose. But because of my yellow undertones, this color morphs into a coppery bronze/terracotta shade (This is my polite way of saying orange). I own so many similar shades, so it was a bit of a disappointment that the color didn't stay true. On my cheeks, its pretty similar to MAC Gingerly Blush or even Becca Peach Beach Tint. Nars Lovejoy is also a deep rose shade, but it's much more of a true rose on my cheeks, whereas I don't get rose at all from Constantinople. So, if you typically have a problem with colors going orange on you (this happens with a huge percentage of my blushes - just about any pink turns into a coral-pink on my cheeks) than, it will most likely happen with this blush. If you have a cool skin tone, I can see this blush showing up truer to pan. Now that I got that out of the way, the actual performance of this blush is fantastic. It's super creamy and super pigmented - I found it to be creamier than Lokoum (the only other Nars Cream Blush I own). Because it's pigmented and creamy, it can pick up a lot of product, even with a duo-fiber brush. So, I typically like to dab my middle and ring finger on the surface and dab it on my cheeks, and then use a duo-fiber brush to blend. I'm still a bit disappointing with the color - I would've passed on this blush had I tried it on my cheeks first.
NYX Absolute Red Xtreme Lip Cream ($5.99) is an opaque cherry/blood red lip color with a glossy finish. NYX Xtreme Lip Creams are a lipgloss/lipstick hybrid as the product is completely opaque with one coat, yet it has the texture and shine of a gloss. I'd compare the pigmentation to OCC Lip Tars, though these are much more moisturizing. Absolute Red is such a perfect, sexy shade of red, and I can't imagine it looking bad on anyone. It looks like a "Snow White" red with one coat and if I blot my lips with a tissue, it takes on a bright raspberry color (which is essentially what it fades to on me). With two coats, it takes on a deeper red-wine shade. The first ingredient in this gloss is Castor Oil, so if you're familiar with it, you can imagine the consistency. It's thick and moisturizing, yet it's completely non-sticky/tacky or greasy. Also, if you're familiar with the scent of Castor Oil, that's what the gloss smells like - kind of woody/plastic-like, but I don't even notice it anymore. The lasting power is just as really good - the red in particular is still on my lips after several hours (although it will fade slightly). Highly recommend checking this one out.
Hippie Chic is a really pretty brightened light flamingo pink. Love the color, but, the formula stinks. With one coat, it's alright.. but more than that, the color will apply streaky and draw attention to any dryness on the lips and sit in the fine lines. If you mix it with a little lipgloss, it's great. But wearing it alone is a no-go.
Lip Gloss -NYX - Mega Shine Lip Gloss in Nude Pink
nattyngeorge 10/22/2012 1:43:00 AM
Nude Pink is a natural, light milky neutral pink. It looks fabulous on my warm skin tone, and is the perfect pink for every day. It's pigmented enough to wear alone, but I usually layer it over a pink lipstick. Will continue to repurchase.
Blush -Chanel - Joues Contraste - Mirage (Rose Bronze)
nattyngeorge 10/22/2012 1:38:00 AM
Chanel Rose Bronze is one of my favorite blushes of all time. I own several blushes (probably close to 100) and I don't have any dupes for Rose Bronze. Although I can't really locate the "bronze" in this blush, it's the most absolute prettiest every day natural pink that will leave your cheeks glowing. You can wear it all year round and it looks fabulous with muted makeup looks as well as more intense makeup looks. It's a blush that doesn't need much work to look perfect and it's a blush I can always rely on -- when I feel conflicted and don't know which blush to wear, I always grab Rose Bronze.
Blush -Chanel - Joues Contraste - In Love (US version)
nattyngeorge 10/22/2012 1:32:00 AM
Chanel In Love JC Blush is one of my favorite blushes for every day. I'm not huge on coral-toned blushes, but I LOVE this blush on me. It's warm, natural and gives my cheeks the perfect warm glow. I range from the MAC NC20-NC40 coloring (light-medium to medium-tan with warm undertones). This blush is just pure awesomeness. Try it!
Highlighters -Dolce & Gabbana - The Illuminator - Shimmer
nattyngeorge 3/19/2012 7:06:00 PM
In no way shape or form is this product an illuminator. Also, for the name "shimmer" you'd expect it to have some. But it doesn't. Okay, okay it has super tiny shimmer, but it's barely present on the cheeks. The color is more of a natural blush. It's a natural nude that is perfect for those days where you need a little bit of color on your cheeks, but nothing OTT. The product is so soft and finely milled that it blends effortlessly on the cheeks. Love, love, love this and definitely recommend it for a natural blush!
