Mascara -Essence - Maximum Definition Volume Mascara
rated 5 of 5
jgorog 10/10/2012 2:56:00 AM

This is one of the best mascaras I've ever used. The brush is plastic, which I think allows for better application. I love how this applies without any clumps! It is perfect for a natural look but can also be built up for drama without the spider leg effect. I've had quite a few friends ask me what brand I use.. with a couple of layers of this product, I get great length and volume. Not to mention the curl that lasts all day! I have not yet had any problems with smudging and I have major issues with oily eyelids. The mascara does start flaking a bit at the end of its life but that's to be expected. At this price, it's really not painful to replace it when that happens! Highly recommend.

Eyeliner -Milani - Infinite Liquid Eye Liner
rated 5 of 5
jgorog 10/10/2012 2:52:00 AM

I bought this based off a blog review I saw claiming it was a dupe for MAC liquidlast. Liquidlast has been HG for me the past two years. I have insanely oily eyelids that absolutely nothing sticks to. I have given up on eyeshadow but I can't leave the house without eyeliner, I'm definitely a cat eye gal! I'm pleased to report that Milani's liner gives me the exact same performance for a fraction of MAC's price. This is such a STEAL. Infinite liquid gives a smooth, opaque line that lasts all day. Even when I fall asleep in my makeup (naughty, I know), my makeup looks the exact same in the morning. I dare say this is even better than my old fave... the brush, while still not the easiest thing to use in the world, is thicker than liquidlast, allowing me to get a smoother line. Also, liquidlast was a bit gummier and when it dried, it sometimes gave the alligator skin effect. Have not had this problem yet with Milani! Will I repurchase? Yes, a thousand times, yes. I'm going to have to write 32742893 letters to Milani asking them to bring their brand to Europe!

Loose Powders -Bourjois - Flower Perfection Loose Powder
rated 5 of 5
jgorog 12/17/2011 3:35:00 PM

Bourjois Flower Perfection Loose Powder is a finely milled translucent powder. I paid €9 and the jar contains 5g of product. I have been searching for a nice loose powder for some time now. The Flower Perfection Loose Powder has been working really well for me the past week. The powder is very fine, it actually flies out a bit when I use my brush so it's better to be careful with the package. The packaging is really nice because it has a twist cap so you only need to sift out the amount you need and then you can close it back up. The colour of the powder is a bit light when I first apply it but blends into my skin quickly. I have very oily skin so I need mattifying products but at the same time I don't like looking like I've obviously powdered my face. This powder fulfills my contradictory skin needs as it blends seamlessly into my skin and yet manages to keep the oil at bay, I get oily much later in the day than normal and don't need to blot as often. The powder doesn't oxidise during the day, it stays true to your skintone. Also, I have noticed my skin has been getting better since I've been using this, I think my previous powders were really clogging my pores so I'm happy this product is so nice to my skin. If I had to give a con to the product, I would have to say that the amount of product you get is kind of small. But it's okay because you don't need to use that much and you still get a nice matte, soft focus effect on your complexion. I have been using this in tandem with the Flower Perfect foundation, they really complement each other well! I give 5 stars for the powder, I can't see any reason not to repurchase.

Liquid -Bourjois - Flower Perfection Youth Extension Foundation
rated 5 of 5
jgorog 12/17/2011 3:20:00 PM

The Flower Perfection line Is a new addition to the Bourjois brand. The line includes a foundation, primer, loose powder and powder brush. I am very excited that Bourjois has released a new foundation. The brand claims that the foundation will smooth and beautify your complexion, with a lasting power of 16 hours. There is also some stuff about cell protecting ingredients to make you look younger but this does not apply to me and anyway, I never believe claims to this extent. The foundation comes in 8 shades and comes in a clear glass pump bottle with a built-in sponge in the plastic cap. I paid €14.90 for it. I bought the shade 54 and have been using it the past week.. I have to say that I am impressed. I used to use Healthy Mix but now I much prefer Flower Perfection. The color match is good, I have always found Bourjois to be good with yellow undertones. The texture of the foundation is drier so you do need to work quickly to blend the foundation properly but it's worth it for the smooth coverage. The finish is more matte than Healthy Mix and it definitely has better coverage, I don't need to use a lot of concealer. I haven't tested the product for a full 16 hours but after a bar shift of 8 hours, I have found the makeup to stay intact, without oxidising or sinking into my pores. I have very oily skin and tend to get shiny very quickly.. I have to blot an hour after I apply makeup and every hour after that. I <3 FLOWER PERFECTION because I don't get oily for about 3 hours and even then it looks more like a glow than grease :) Cons: The sponge included in the package is actually too unwieldy to use regularly.. but honestly, who has ever loved the makeup tool included in a package? Another negative aspect is this foundation is pretty unforgiving to dry skin. It will magnify any flakiness on your skin so make sure to moisturise well! I ABSOLUTELY recommend this product and will continue to use it unless they discontinue it (like 10 hours sleep effect grr!)

Mascara -L'Oreal - Lash Architect 4D
rated 5 of 5
jgorog 6/5/2011 4:24:00 PM

I have to admit, I picked this up mostly due to it's appearance. I think the curved, silver tube looks really slick. It claims to use fibres to volumise, lenghten, and curve your lashes, creating a false lash effect. Those are quite a lot of claims for one mascara. I've been using it for a week so far and I am pleasantly surprised at how much it lives up to the hype. The brush is long and skinny and is really effective at separating my lashes. My lashes end up very well separated and the lengthening effects are really noticeable as well. I can apply three coats without a problem, as the formula doesn't clump. Also, big pro, the mascara does not smudge or flake on me, even after a 14 hour day. The effect I was most impressed with was the curling aspect. Although my lashes naturally curl, meaning I don't need to use an eyelash curler, a lot of mascaras seem to wilt my eyelashes during the day. This one keeps the curl in throughout the whole day, it looks the exact same as it did when it was freshly applied. The only cons I can think of for this mascara are negligible. First, it is a bit difficult to take off at the end of the day, I use an oil based remover and I still find a bit of residue left over. Also, if you're one of those people who dislikes actually feeling the mascara on your lashes, you might want to skip this one, as your lashes definitely feel coated and hard. I don't think this mascara provides a 'false lash' effect, although maybe you could get there with enough coats. I'm not too disappointed though, I do tend to ignore these sorts of promises, as they seem completely unrealistic. All in all, I am really happy with how this mascara performs in all aspects. The clump-free formula and well-shaped brush make it a breeze to apply and the results are long, curled, fanned out lashes It's definitely one of my favourite mascaras so far, I see no reason not to keep repurchasing. EDIT: I have had a few people (even guys!!) ask me if I wear fake eyelashes and then when I say no, they say I must be wearing lash extensions. Ha, so apparently the fake lash effect is actually there! Love this mascara even more now <3

Fragrances -Gucci - Eau de Parfum II
rated 4 of 5
jgorog 3/14/2011 3:31:00 PM

This is one of the first proper perfumes I ever purchased. I tested it while I was at an airport and thought it smelled nice but nothing special. A few hours later, I caught a whiff of it and it smelled a lot more interesting. I bought it a few days later and I have not regretted it since. I like how the scent is sweet and fresh but also has a spicy edge to it. The spice makes it different from the other sweet perfumes I notice people wearing. It's a nice, unique everyday scent and if I ever run out, I won't hesitate to repurchase. EDIT: Forgot to add, I can smell this on my skin all day. Awesome lasting power :)

Fragrances -Donna Karan - Be Delicious
rated 5 of 5
jgorog 3/14/2011 3:17:00 PM

This fragrance smells soooo yummy. The name definitely fits. The packaging is adorable and the smell of the actual perfume is sweet and fresh, like crisp apples. I like to use it all year just because I love the scent but it is definitely at its best during the summer. Lasting power is better than I expected from a light scent, I can still catch a whiff on my clothes at the end of the day. The only negative aspect of this perfume has nothing to do with the product itself. It's just the fact that there are soooo many people using this perfume that the smell is no longer that special. But hey, I'm not surprised that such an amazing smelling perfume is so popular!

Treatments -Vichy - Normaderm Night Chrono-Action Anti-Imperfection Hydrating Care
rated 4 of 5
jgorog 3/14/2011 2:57:00 PM

I used this product a year or so ago and then moved on to try different things. I recently bought another tube and I'm surprised I ever strayed. My skin gets quite oily but it is also dehydrated underneath and I find this product has positive effects on it. I use this product at night and it keeps my face my face mattified while also providing a mild hydration. My pimples are definitely decreased the morning after and I feel like my skin is smoother. It also seems like my pores are less noticeable but the effect doesn't last. I don't especially like the scent, it is a bit overpowering, and the price is bit steep. However this product does what it claims and as long as it remains effective, I will continue to repurchase.

Eyeliner -MAC - Liquidlast Liner - Point Black
rated 5 of 5
jgorog 3/14/2011 2:06:00 PM

This may sound a bit dramatic but I can honestly say that this liner has been my biggest makeup revelation! I have always had extremely oily eyelids, every single mascara and eyeliner smudges on me within an hour. It doesn't even help to reapply, as my eyelids are already oily by then and the makeup slides right off. It is extremely annoying when I go out or during work when I am always conscious of my makeup wearing off and smudging and I can't even touch my eye for fear of making it worse. Then I found reviews on Liquidlast. I'm not gonna lie, when I first took it home, the learning curve on this thing was crazy. I would go through at least 10 qtips with waterproof makeup remover to make the lines passably even. I know a lot of reviewers have said they use a different eyeliner brush with it but I have not been able to find a single decent brush where I live! After a month or so, I learned to work with it and the brush it came with. However, it still is not an eyeliner I can use in a rush without getting the qtips involved. But it is COMPLETELY worth it because this liner is pretty much perfect. It will last through crying, sleeping, the apocalypse, etc. I love this eyeliner, I have repurchased it over 6 times. If MAC ever removes this from their line, I'm pretty sure I would sit down in front of their store and cry my head off until they find me one or ban me. That's how much of a difference this eyeliner has made in my life!

Mascara -Maybelline - Volum' Express The Colossal
rated 5 of 5
jgorog 3/14/2011 1:54:00 PM

I love this. My lashes are already quite long and curled so when I buy mascaras, I tend to look for volume enhancing formulas. I purchased this one without doing previous research but I'm happy it worked out! It makes my lashes really thick and it layers well, I normally wear about 3 coats. It also lengthens, which was a bonus I wasn't expecting! Also, it has never smudged on me, which is a pretty big deal as my eyelids get very oily and nothing tends to stick to them. I think this is a mascara that could suit anyone, since it performs well in both lengthening and thickening. The only aspect I can't comment on is curling, as this has never been an issue for me.

Fragrances -Versace - BRIGHT CRYSTAL
rated 2 of 5
jgorog 3/14/2011 1:48:00 PM

This bottle is GORGEOUS. I really liked the smell when I first tried it, it reminded me of a lighter, more sparkly version of another personal favourite, Gucci II. However, after a couple of hours, the scent seems to turn sour on me. I haven't had anyone comment on it yet but I personally find it rancid and feel really uncomfortable until I get a chance to shower. Such a shame, it was a lovely smell during the short time before.

Fragrances -Dolce & Gabbana - Fragrance Anthology L'Imperatrice
rated 4 of 5
jgorog 3/14/2011 1:44:00 PM

I love this. I smelled it on one of my coworkers one day and when she told me what it was, I bought it the next day. It smells so fresh and fruity and just completely delicious. I have been using it since October last year and have not yet gotten sick of it or had it caused a headache. The only problem with it (and it is a major one) is the staying power. It lasts such a short time on me and I have to keep spraying it on. I have never run through a bottle of perfume so quickly! If I ever find another fragrance like this that lasts longer, I will buy it in a millisecond but for now I will keep repurchasing as I am completely addicted!

Skincare - Face -La Roche Posay - Effaclar A.I.
rated 2 of 5
jgorog 4/5/2008 4:00:00 PM

I had pretty high expectations for this product, I loved Effaclar K and LRP in general is a great brand. I had been happy using Vichy Imperfection Concentrate but decided to switch to this due to the great reviews. But unfortunately, it didn't help get rid of pimples. I would apply it on the offending blemishes a couple of times during the day and during the night and never saw it having an effect. In fact, I think the areas I applied it on became even more congested. I bought a big tube though, and want to use it up so I use it as a kind of primer. I don't use it everyday, but when I want a more polished look to my makeup I apply it on my t-zone and it keeps my skin really matte throughout the day. You have let me down LRP! I will be buying more Vichy to replace you asap.

Highlighters -Mary Kay - Facial Highlighter Pen
rated 4 of 5
jgorog 3/28/2008 1:24:00 PM

I also found this way too drying to use under the eyes. I do like it as a coverup though. Sometimes I get spots that are really red and take layers of concealer to cover. Instead I use a tiny dab of this and it neutralizes the colour without looking like I've applied a mask of makeup over it.

Lip Gloss -Maybelline - Shiny-licious in Sugar Plum
rated 4 of 5
jgorog 3/26/2008 9:57:00 AM

This is such a gorgeous colour in the tube, I was disappointed when it came out so sheer. I still use it though, it leaves your lips very shiny and slightly pink tinted. It smells really nice as well, kind of like caramel. I didn't get a fuzzy applicator on mine or else that would have turned me right off this stuff.
