Concealers -Exuviance - coverblend multifunction concealer
icarle 5/8/2013 7:44:00 AM
This is a truly amazing concealer for dark circles, redness, pimples, acne scars, brown spots, you name it. The product is light yet very effective, full full coverage. A TINY amount must be used, otherwise it looks fake. So the little tube goes on forever. 24$CA online (eskinstore) Couple of things though: I bought it in beige, which is usually the level i go for (since for a concealer, you have to go a bit lighter than usual) but it is a little too light, which is perfectly ok for dark circles, for looks a little pale on the rest of my face (i have other "problem" areas that need concealing) Also, i expected to set it with powder and found out at my own expense that it is NOT a good idea: without powder it looks natural, with powder, it creases! So there you go, HG concealer. Very happy to have found it. Thanks MUA!!!

Treatments -Clearasil - Adult Care Acne Treatment
icarle 5/4/2013 6:58:00 AM
YES YES YES! I have uncomplicated adult acne (I'm 29) and i read that in order to treat adul acne you need to stay clear of harsh product you used when you were a teen (like benzoyle peroxide) and use resorcinol and sulfur instead. This product was the only one i found that contains those two ingredients (in my pharmacy at least) I used it last night for the first time on my cheeks, chin and jaw line and this morning the few red pimples i had were gone, my skin clear! 0_o Amazing! I don't think i will use it twice a day, it seems a bit extreme. I have oily skin, somewhat sensitive, and i did not experience any dryness or redness so far. I do moisturize after it dries. It smells like sulfur so it is a bit unpleasant but i can manage that. Voila!

Cleansers -Neutrogena - Acne Stress Control Night Cleansing Pads
icarle 4/23/2013 7:24:00 PM
I'm lazy at night: 50% of the time I fall asleep in front of a film with my makeup on. Very bad for a breakout-prone skin like mine!! So the other day at CVS I was looking for towelettes or pads, and these were on sale. I used Neutrogena on my acne when I was a teen and I got good results. I am 29 now and my acne is mostly hormonal...Or due to bad skin habits and/or stress. The pads are very thin, they smell very strongly (alcohol mostly) and rubbing a pad on your face is not the best feeling. You DO want to remove makeup beforehand, especially if -like me- you're wearing a primer, a foundation and a powder... At first it leaves a residue but it quickly dries. I didn't find the pads to be too drying (but i have very oily skin) Less than a regular cleanser with water... After a week, my skin has cleared a bit, nothing too dramatic but it helped. I wouldn't say it's my HG, but it's handy. So I would say 3 lippies is fair...

Blush -Maybelline - Dream Bouncy Blush
icarle 4/18/2013 3:46:00 PM
The pigmentation on a dry brush is close to zero. If you dab your brush into a bit of water and apply the blush, you get a very faint coral tint. Crappy product. Into the garbage!

Pressed Powders -Essence - All About Matt Fixing Compact Powder
icarle 4/18/2013 3:42:00 PM
I was impressed by the finish of the powder: it sets the makeup really nicely. However I hate to say it but it broke me out terribly. After three days of use I had acne all over my forehead and jawline...I was very sad because the powder is very good for what it does, but my skin doesn't want it. But if you're not prone to breakouts, then you can go ahead!

Concealers -Revlon - PhotoReady Concealer SPF 20
icarle 3/31/2013 1:17:00 PM
It's an okay product. First of all, the lipstick shape is awkward. I don't like it, you cannot really using it directly on your face, and it's not easy to use with fingers or with a brush. The coverage is medium. It's ok for regular dark circles, but doesn't cover acne. It creases a bit but nothing too horrible. So it would be a 2.5 for me: i bought it because I ran out of the Bobbi brown concealer kit and i needed something cheap. (it costs about 10$CAD at my local drugstore) It was on sale, otherwise it's more like 12 or 13 which is expensive for what it delivers. Also, it's very yellow, and my complexion is pinkish so it looks unnatural on me. Won't repurchase.

Concealers -Unlisted Brand - 15 Concealer/ Corrector Palette
icarle 3/19/2013 1:06:00 PM
I bought this because of all the rave on youtube and MUA. Truth is, it's very cheap. It doesn't blend, it's chalky and not pigmented. I tried with a brush, I tried with my finger. I used the yellow, the green and the mauve, then the flesh-colorer. It's all crap. the quality resembles my 4-year-old daughter's makeup kit that you buy at the dollarstore. The packaging is very flimsy and cheap too (i would have been ok with that if the concealer was good!) Fortunately it only costs me 11$ with shipping on Tmart. Unfortunatly, i reaaaally wanted to like it....And I think i know why opinions are so divided: some of those palettes are good, so are not, but it's NOT ALL THE SAME product. It looks the same (color and arrangement) but it's not. On youtube there are many versions of that palette, some have brands, some don't. I think that explains why some girls are in love with it and some hate it. So many the only way to appreciate this palette would be to know which ones are bad and which ones are good......Otherwise we will continue to be divided.

Cleansers -Cetaphil - Daily Facial Cleanser (Normal to Oily Skin)
icarle 3/18/2013 1:39:00 PM
I bought this because I am in desperate need of a good cleanser. I used the Laventine one but it's very expensive. I received a coupon for the Cetaphil cleanser and picked it up the other day. First of all, I agree that some of the ingredients are not very natural. If you're looking for a natural cleanser, this is not for you. The scent is very strong (a bit like grandma's soap) it's not unpleasant, but I would have preferred a fragrance-free version. It is a bit drying. It is still winter here in Canada, and my skin is very oily, usually I don't have a problem with cleansers. My skin felt very tight after the first use. I moisturized and it was ok. My skin looked "clearer" after two or three uses. I don't have acne, but I have big pores and oily T-zone, and it really helped. I use it at night to remove makeup, and in the morning to wash before putting on makeup. I am considering using it just once at night, just because my skin is not very dirty in the morning, and it does strip the skin from it's natural oils which you need to protect it during the day. It's 17$CAD at the drugstore, lasts a long time. I like it. It,s not HG, but a good basic cleanser when I cannot afford the Laventine one. I would have given it a 3.5.

Eye Shadow -Revlon - CustomEyes Shadow and Liner Palette - ALL SHADES
icarle 3/12/2013 3:26:00 PM
I am reviewing Gold Spun as well. I picked it up at the dollarstore for 3$CAD, so it was a steal. I used the taupe on my eyelid, the brown for the crease and the white for under my eyebrow. The colors are well-pigmented, they apply evenly and stay for a very long time, and i'm not using any primer. So overall it is a great little palette for an everyday look. be careful with the gold, it's very shiny and i'm not a big fan. Also, the black is great as a liner, but not for the crease, as it is too dark even for the crease. I'm glad i picked it up! Will definately re-purchase.

Brows -Quo - Take a brow eyebrow palette
icarle 3/6/2013 2:19:00 PM
I don't know if it's a new palette, i couldn't find it on MUA. I bought this palette because I don't like brow pencils: it looks fake, even if you have a light hand. I use my angled brush because the one that comes with is is tiny and cheap. Also, the little box is cute but it took me 5 minutes to open it!! Onto the review: there are two shadows, a dark blonde one and a brunette one + a gel. I use the darker one because right now my haircolor is dark brown. It's great! Well-pigmented, stays forever, and the gel has a creamy yet manageable texture for a polished finish. Overall a great product.

Eye Shadow -Almay - Almay Intense i-Color Eye Shadow Play Up Trio for Greens
icarle 3/6/2013 2:09:00 PM
I like this trio: I have the bold nudes (pink/brown/green) and it's highly pigmented, stays all day and is easy to blend. It does bring out the green in my eyes. The colors are great for a day makeup. The brush is crappy and i don't use it, I'm using the MSC fluff brush (213) and a shorter shader brush for the crease. I took off a lip pie for the useless brush and the cheap plastic container. But the shadows are great quality.

Eye Makeup Remover -Marcelle - Eye Make-up Remover Lotion
icarle 3/1/2013 4:32:00 PM
Removes eye-shadow, eyeliner and mascara at once. Does not sting or irritate the eyes, format is bigger than usual lotions, and cheap! I paid 13$CAD and the smaller bottles such as Nivea or L'Oreal are 11$CAD. Overall, very good product, will buy again.

Eyeliner -Essence - Gel Eyeliner
icarle 3/1/2013 4:29:00 PM
Why oh why did i ever paid more that 3,99$ for a gel eyeliner?? This by FAR the best i've used. And I was a big fan of the MAC one. Now this is a long wear eyeliner. I mean from 6 am to 10pm. No smudges, no fading, no nothing. I am an eyeliner girl, it's part of my everyday makeup routine. I prefer gels than pencils although you have to master the angled brush (and buy a good one, like MAC) The winning recipe for a perfect cat-eye is gel + brush. Anyway the texture of this gel is much more watery than MAC's. Do not plunge the brush into it, you will end up having to wipe most of it before continuing. It dries quickly so if you made a mistake, do correct it ASAP otherwise, you might have to remove everything and start over. But really, this is HG.

Lotions/ Creams -Unlisted Brand - EXTRA VIRGIN Coconut Oil (All brands)
icarle 2/28/2013 10:01:00 AM
MUA fabulous finds never cease to amaze me! I came across cocnonut oil here on this website, and I'm a sucker for natural, fuss-free cosmetics (such as EVOO, or honey) I bought a big jar of unrefined, unbleached, 100% organic product and started using it on my face as an overnight mask : OMG!! Not only did my face cleared up (I have hormonal-post-pregnancy breakouts) but it was so smooth it was the same as my 6-month-old =) I use it on my face to remove makeup, as a mask, as an overnight moisturizer, on my hair as a pre-conditionner before showering, on dry skin (elbows, knees, etc) and it is truly a miracle product. But do buy the organic version, and make sure it's unrefined and unbleached. THANK YOU MUA!!!!

Lipstick -Revlon - Color Stay Ultimate Suede Lipstick
icarle 2/27/2013 7:30:00 AM
That thing has staying power! I tried to remove it last time and couldn't so I went to bed with it... The colors are fresh and pretty (mine is muse) and for the first hour or so, the lipstick looks beautiful and smooth. Then, like all long lasting lipstick, you have to either re-apply, or live with a somewhat faded lipstick that is still mainly visible on the outer corner of your lips. I re-applied, and this is why at the end of the day it was so hard to remove. I prefer the Revlon lip butter, it is more beautiful and even if it doesn't last very long, you can re-apply without fear hahaha
