Masks -Etude - Moistfull mask
rated 4 of 5
daphn3_t 4/8/2012 1:17:00 AM

After weeks of using acne products (adapalene, PHA lotion, BP and occasionally Retin-A), my skin was peeling slightly. It was difficult to put on makeup. So last night, I decided to put on a sheet mask and chose the Etude House Moistfull mask that I received free when I bought some stuff a few months ago. Opening the foil packet, the mask was a standard one, folded up neatly, soaking wet with essence. It had a slight fragrance that I didn’t really like, but then I couldn’t avoid it as most skincare brands would have their distinctive fragrance. Anyway, the mask was a little too small for me – the forehead fitted nicely but the jawline wasn’t fully covered. It was weird because most masks that I have used were all too big for me. I left it on for 20mins or so, then removed it. The remaining essence absorbed into my skin quickly and easily with some patting. I applied some AC Red Spot Balm on the acne scars and ended last night’s skincare regimen. This morning I woke up, my face wasn’t overly oily as it was usually. The flaky patches that I had last night, were also gone this morning. That’s a sign that the mask worked, I tell you.

Cleansers -Etude - Baking Powder Cleansing Foam
rated 3 of 5
daphn3_t 4/8/2012 1:16:00 AM

I have been using Etude House Baking Powder Cleansing Foam for almost 2 weeks now and I’m liking it so far. Initially, it was a little drying as I wasn’t used to the extremely matte and clean feel after cleansing (I was using Mario Badescu’s Enzyme Cleansing Gel before this). I got used to it after a few days though. The texture is creamy, with small grains for exfoliation. Just a small pea size will do as it foams up very well. I once squeezed out too much, abt 0.6cm worth of it and it foamed up so much it covered my face like a deep cleansing mask! I like it for its uplifting citrus scent and that it contains real baking powder to help scrub away dead skin cells daily. I haven’t gotten any pimples so far (knock on wood!!) and my scars have gotten a tad lighter, probably due to the gentle exfoliating action. It’s a pretty large tube, 170ml and I only paid around S$9-$10 for it, so it’s definitely worth the money and wait. Buying via Gmarket Korea is a breeze as well and the item came very well packed. It’s much more worth it to buy online than get it from the shops if you can wait and don’t mind the language barrier.

Treatments -Etude - AC Clinic Red Spot Balm
rated 4 of 5
daphn3_t 4/8/2012 1:16:00 AM

Etude House’s Red Spot Balm claims to help heal and soothes facial trouble spots, so I used it for that purpose. After starting on hormonal therapy for my acne, I hardly have breakouts now (knock on wood!) but the scars from prior breakouts are still very red and raw which made my skin look far worse than it really is, so I wanted something to reduce the redness. I got some samples of this red spot balm when I bought something from Etude House last year and I could only guess what it was for as there was no English instructions or descriptions. Luckily, I guessed correctly and it worked for me. I only use it when my pimples have been popped and in the healing stage. I’ve tried using it as a pimple cream but it didn’t work. On the contrary, it became worse as it couldn’t pop and became a mass of red. If I use it religiously, the scars become a lighter shade of red after a week or so. Red spot balm comes in a jar with a scraper to help get product out. I don’t really like the packaging as the shape can make it quite difficult to scrap the product out and there can be product wastage. It is a balm texture which goes on easily but it can be unsuitable for day use for some as makeup might go on patchy. I usually only use it at night.

Cleansers -Skinfood - Pineapple Peeling Gel
rated 1 of 5
daphn3_t 3/30/2012 1:43:00 AM

I love exfoliating gels, IF they work. Unfortunately, this peeling gel does not work. Some have chemical formulas that ball up when rubbed, to give you the impression that it's peeling your dead skin cells away. But this is one of those products, where it also balls up when I rub it gently on the toilet sink. WHAT? you say. Yeah, the toilet sink. It's also very expensive in Singapore when the product retails for 1/3 the price in Korea.

Treatments (Eye) -Mario Badescu - ceramide eye gel
rated 2 of 5
daphn3_t 1/20/2010 7:22:00 PM

I usually like Mario Badescu for his affordable and effective products. The ceramide eye gel, while economical, doesn’t really do much. I use it when my eye area is a little dry due to all the acne products (my eye area is very sensitive and gets red and raw sometimes) and it helps calm the thin skin, reduce redness. But it isn’t something that my favourite Control Cream cannot do.. I’m just trying to finish it now. Such a big tub!

Makeup Brushes -Everyday Minerals - Long handled Kabuki
rated 5 of 5
daphn3_t 9/12/2009 11:58:00 PM

This has got to be my favourite brush for my MM. I also own the Too Faced Kabuki Brush but I find myself reaching out for this more often. It's a good size so I don't go knocking the tip of the handle into the mirror when I lean in to buff over areas that need a little more work. The hair is very soft and dense, packing in a good amount of mineral powder. It doesn't shed nor run when I wash it, and it dries really fast!

Misc Beauty Tools -The Body Shop - Wooden Foot File
rated 4 of 5
daphn3_t 7/27/2009 11:10:00 PM

I think this product is still called File A Foot, or at least, in this part of the world (Singapore). I agree with the reviewer below that it does a great job of smoothing out your heels. I have used many foot files, pumice stones and even PedEgg before but I always come back to this. The only thing is that it can get quite messy with the filings all over the place. Be sure to use an old toothbrush to remove the trapped foot filings on the file regularly to make it even more effective. The file lasts for ages (I’ve had mine for almost 5 years now I think) so it’s really value for money!

Masks -My Beauty Diary - Yogurt mask
rated 5 of 5
daphn3_t 11/15/2008 1:31:00 AM

Description : Oil control, refreshing. Especially for oily skin. Helps to regulate sebum, refine pores and even skin tone. Price: S$1.50 from MadAboutSprees Review: This mask smells faintly of sweet milk, nothing too intrusive. Quality of mask is a thick sheet, well absorbed with essence (so none of that gooey essence dripping down your neck). The mask is a good size but I always end up having to do some folds at the top cos I have a small forehead, and my hairline gets pimples pretty easily. After using the mask, the remaining essence is quickly absorbed into the skin with just a few seconds of massaging your face, and it’s not sticky at all. You know how some mask essence gets absorbed easily, but you still feel that there’s something on your face? Not from Beauty Diary. Face is totally matte like there’s nothing there. I used this mask consecutively for 3 nights, and each morning I wake up to fresh skin, no oil slick in my T-zone. Blemishes and blotchiness are also reduced. I just ordered a box (10 pieces) for myself.

Description : Refreshing, whitening, clarity, purifying. Especially for dull skin. Provides a glow to skin. Price: S$1.50 from MadAboutSprees Review: I’ve always hated the smell of roses but this was surprisingly lightly sweet scented and not overpowering. In fact it smells so good that i left the mask on my face for more than 30 mins. Remaining essence was absorbed easily with no sticky residue. I’ve been bugged by uneven skin tone for the longest time ever, this mask left my face looking dewy and healthy glowing with even skin tone. Love it!

Don’t be afraid of its cream texture - it absorbs really fast and gives a dewy/matte finish. Not oily at all! It smells pretty nice, but would be better if it’s non-fragranced to suit sensitive skin. There isn’t a white cast after applying as well.

Toners -Unlisted Brand - Clinelle - Purifying Toner
rated 4 of 5
daphn3_t 11/15/2008 1:27:00 AM

Description : 100% alcohol-free (non-drying) formulation that purifies, hydrates and softens, preparing skin for effective moisturizing. Enriched with Aloe Vera, Lavender, Linseed and hydrating Wheat Germ Extract. * Suitable for all skin types, even sensitive skin. Price: ~S$20 Review: The toner helps to prep my skin for moisturizer. It also gently moisturizes my skin, so sometimes I can do away with my moisturizer when I’m feeling lazy. Without alcohol, the toner does not dry/evaporate on skin immediately, so it is also actually the best time to apply moisturizer. With skin slightly damp from the toner, you can cut down on the amount of moisturizer used (so you will not overapply and cause breakouts in the process), and your moisturizer can be spread around easily. I also appreciate the fact that Clinelle does not use SD alcohol, colourings and artificial fragrances. Would consider repurchasing it again once I’ve used up all my existing toners!

Suitable to use day and night, it does not dry out skin, leaving the skin feeling fresh and clean. I think it also has got some peppermint extract as there’s a refreshing, tingling sensation (nothing too strong though) as I leave the foam on my face for a little while longer.
