Eye Shadow -Etude - eyeshadows
rated 5 of 5
cookiedough8 4/11/2012 10:58:00 PM

Etude recently discontinued their Petit Darling eyeshadows and introduced a new line called "Look at My Eyes." These come in three types - Jewel (sparkle), shimmer/satin and Cafe (matte). They come in clear, round plastic packaging that is easy to handle and the shadows are embossed with little hearts. Personally I prefer the new packaging for its simplicity and easy storage. I have tried the Cafe (matte) line and I'm in love. The pigment is very fine and applies soooooo smoothly. The colours are versatile and fall-out is minimal. Of all the "DS" brands in Korea, Etude seems to have the best quality e/s. I wish they would expand the choice of colours in this line because I'm definitely getting more. LOVE <3

Sunscreen -InnisFree - Eco Safety No Sebum Sunblock SPF35 PA+++
rated 5 of 5
cookiedough8 3/14/2012 11:01:00 AM

The name may not be so sexy but the product does exactly what it says. I have very oily skin which normally turns my T zones into an oil slick by mid-afternoon. No oil controlling powder or primer had been able to significantly delay this process. Then along comes this sunscreen in a convenient little squeeze tube. The sunscreen is meant to double as a makeup base so it is tinted and slightly thicker than you would normally expect. I personally did not find white cast to be a problem when applied under my regular foundation, but ymmv (I'm around NC20 with slight yellow undertones for reference). The oil-control function is just amazing. I no longer need to blot my face, not even once, and my face still stays shine-free right through the evening. I've been using it everyday since purchase and will probably continue to do so. Will definitely purchase again. LOVE!!

Fragrances -Unlisted Brand - Justin Bieber Someday
rated 4 of 5
cookiedough8 2/5/2012 10:23:00 AM

JB Someday is for me quite simply BBW Twilight Woods, with the woods replaced with flowery musk. The fruity top, which continues well into the heart, is almost identical. It is a pleasantly sweet scent and has little sillage after the first half hour of application. I love the fact that all proceeds go to charity.

Fragrances -Molinard - Habanita
rated 4 of 5
cookiedough8 1/31/2012 10:57:00 AM

I had been anticipating a smokey, smouldering leather-vanilla based on descriptions that Habanita started its life as a scent for cigarettes. The verdict? - Not quite. For me, the opening skips the fruits listed in the notes and is mostly green floral/woody. It is rather harsh up close at this point. Within a half an hour, the chorus dies down to a vetiver laced with vanilla (not the other way round) that stays very close to skin. The vetiver gives the overall smokey quality while the vanilla adds the slightest hint of sweetness to soften the edges. The drydown is also a touch powdery. I am not sure whether I enjoy the first half hour of the fragrance but the drydown is worth waiting for. Projection is minimal once it reaches this stage, but the staying power is very good. One drawback of this interesting fragrance is that the juice seems to be rather an intense shade of yellow - I am afraid to spray on light coloured clothes lest it should leave a stain. EDIT: Sometimes I get more vanilla than vetiver from the drydown, although the smokiness is still there. The scent grows on me with each wear.

Eyeliner -Unlisted Brand - Tony Moly Party Lover Gel Eyeliner
rated 5 of 5
cookiedough8 12/31/2011 2:10:00 AM

Tony Moly gel eyeliners are one of their best-selling products for a reason - they're real gems. I have this in 01 Black. It's creamy and glides on easily If you use a sharp enough brush, you can draw very fine lines as well. Non-smudging formulas and lasting power is of absolute importance when it comes to eyeliners and these have both! I usually draw a simple winged line and it doesn't transfer to my undereye area when I set it with a little eye shadow. The tips of the wings get a little smudged by the end of the day, but it is minimal and I have very oily skin. Planning to get one in another shade soon. FYI: Tony Moly has another line called Backstage Gel Eyeliners, which are practically the same thing, but these come with a brush in the cap and have a slightly greater selection of colours.

Mascara -Maybelline - Full 'N Soft Mascara Waterproof
rated 5 of 5
cookiedough8 12/31/2011 1:30:00 AM

Wow, I am impressed! Full 'N Soft definitely lives upto its name and fame! Doesn't flake or clump, holds curl (I use a lash curler first), doesn't smudge for 10+ hrs and leaves lashes very soft and natural-looking! The price is a bonus. Perhaps it doesn't give you dramatic length and volume, but these are more pros than cons for me. I've been using it everyday since I opened the tube and will probably continue to do so until I run out. Will buy again. And again.

Lipstick -Revlon - Colorburst Lip Butter
rated 4 of 5
cookiedough8 12/26/2011 5:28:00 AM

I have this in Berry Smoothie, which appears to be a deep berry pink with fine sparkles in the tube. On lips it gives a very sheer sheen with a touch of medium pink - making lips appear moist and quite kissable :) For me (NC20), it creates the perfect MLBB look. The staying power is as can be expected from such a moisturizing formula. But I find it perfect for the winter months, when my lips seem too dry for lipstick, even with regular exfoliation. That said, I think the cute plastic packages contain too little of the product, especially considering how fast it wears away - a couple wears have already shortened my tube visibly.

Fragrances -Bath and Body Works - Twilight Woods
rated 4 of 5
cookiedough8 12/9/2011 9:34:00 PM

I have only tried the body splash in this scent. Initially smells like fruit preserves with a smidgen of spices, then soon settles down to a well-rounded, less syrupy vanilla-wood. Not too demanding and easy to like, which IMO is perfect for a body splash. It would be interesting to see how the EDT compares.

Mascara -Estee Lauder - Illusionist Mascara
rated 4 of 5
cookiedough8 11/16/2011 5:11:00 AM

A competent mascara that lengthens and curls lashes for a natural look. Doesn't clump or flake, unless you attempt to heap on layers. Leaves slight shadows on my under eye area at the end of the day, but that usually means 10+ hrs of wear, to be fair. One thing I love is how glossy my lashes look when I have this on. Nice, but probably wouldn't be repurchasing, as there are products out there that can do the same job for a little less.

Lip Gloss -Estee Lauder - Pure Pops Brush-on Color 'Pink Cupcake'
rated 3 of 5
cookiedough8 11/13/2011 6:15:00 AM

Pink Cupcake looks like a clear pink with sparse but large particles of glitter in the tube. On lips, it just looks like clear gloss, again with the exception of random glitter particles scattered here and there. It's non-sticky and sits quite comfortably on lips - but disappears very quickly. It has a faint sweet scent and favour I find quite pleasant. I mainly use this over matte lipsticks to prevent them drying out my lips (not for the glossiness - disappears far too quickly for that). I can see why some people would like this gloss, but personally I wouldn't be repurchasing. Depends on what you're looking for in a lip gloss, I guess. If you like thin, non-sticky, natural-looking glosses, this could work.

Lip Gloss -Clinique - Full Potential Lips Plump and Shine in Play-full Plump
rated 4 of 5
cookiedough8 11/12/2011 7:31:00 AM

Play-full Plump looks like a pale pink gloss with fine glitter in the tube. On lips, it just comes off as a clear, colourless gloss. The coat of glossiness it gives makes my lips appear fuller - and the effect lasts for quite some time! For someone like me, who prefer lip glosses that last and don't mind a little stickiness, this is perfect.

Lipstick -Clinique - Long Last Soft Shine - Creamy Nude
rated 5 of 5
cookiedough8 11/11/2011 9:47:00 PM

Recently rediscovered from my stash. Creamy Nude is a brownish nude shade. While I don't particularly love the way it swatches on my lips, it has the effect of brightening up the rest of my face. I looked at a mirror and my first thought was "wow, I look healthy." While it works well for my NC20ish skin with light yellow undertones, I think it would look fabulous on more tan complexions as well. The texture is very creamy and the staying power is also decent.

Highlighters -Guerlain - Les Meteorites balls powder
rated 5 of 5
cookiedough8 11/11/2011 6:26:00 AM

Instant complexion brightener. I use mine (01 Mythic and 03 Beige Chic, version before renewal) as an all-over finishing powder. It sets foundation nicely and leaves the impression that my skin glowing from within. Expensive, but one box of these pretty pearls practically lasts forever - and I use mine everyday. I usually don't splurge on HE makeup, largely because I can't afford to, but this one is an exception with reason.

Skincare - Face -Unlisted Brand - Jojoba Oil
rated 5 of 5
cookiedough8 11/7/2011 12:24:00 AM

I use jojoba oil for cleasing (usu. blended with other oils like grapeseed and apricot kernal). I massage it onto my face at the end of the day, rinse with water, then wash again with soap. It removes all traces of makeup - mascara, lipstick, even heavy-duty makeup like Revlon CS foundation - in two easy steps. I have acne-prone and somewhat sensitive skin and jojoba oil has never given me any breakouts.

Lipstick -Wet 'n' Wild - Mega Last Matte 904B Rose-Bud
rated 4 of 5
cookiedough8 11/5/2011 4:48:00 AM

Wet n Wild Mega Last Rose-bud is a warm medium pink, a bit on the bright side. It is so pigmented that I only have to dab, not swipe, to give my lips a lovely pop of colour. For a matte formula, it glides smoothly and isn't too drying, either. The only thing I can complain about is the packaging - care is needed when opening and closing the cap to prevent nicking - though the clear cap does allow easy identification. Overally, a very nice and affordable matte lippie! Looking forward to trying more shades from this line :)
