Scrubs -Victoria's Secret - Stimulating Body Scrub - All
bibliophile 4/17/2009 3:52:00 PM
I said I would buy this again, and I WOULD, if only it were available. Too bad they discontinued a great product. I don't know where I will find anything similar in consistency and price. I switched to this when my beloved Yardley Scrub Me Tender was discontinued, and though none of these smelled as good as that, they were still very similar. Now these are gone, and I'm just pissed at this point. :(

Scrubs -Victoria's Secret - Stimulating Body Scrub - Love Spell
bibliophile 1/5/2009 2:11:00 PM
I love the texture of VS Stimulating Body Scrubs, but the scents are generally horrible. So, 5 lippies for texture, 1 lippie for Love Spell scent. I am really waiting for Vanilla Lace to be restocked so I can exchange all those tubes of Love Spell that I bought w/ coupon on special. I ended up getting 8 tubes for $26, tax included. The only scent of this that I can stand is Vanilla Lace, but Love Spell is the next least offensive. I don't know why Vanilla Lace is no longer available, I guess they are trying to unload all the craptastic scents before restocking. I said I would NOT repurchase this. I just bought it as a place holder while awaiting the return of Vanilla Lace.

Lip Gloss -Victoria's Secret - Beauty Rush Gloss -all
bibliophile 11/28/2008 11:45:00 PM
I love these. Most of them smell/taste pretty good, last, shine, look pretty...blah, blah, blah. I keep a bunch together in a jar on my bathroom vanity. They just look so inviting and pretty displayed in that quantity, like a lip gloss bouquet. My 2 year old daughter LOVES them. She won't leave the house without asking for lip "gwap". Such a girly-girl! But I'm sure she thinks it tastes delicious. Buy them at the 5/$20 rate - a good bargain especially if you combine them with coupons.

Clothes -Victoria's Secret - General Opinion
bibliophile 11/28/2008 11:29:00 PM
Since this review category is about VS **CLOTHES** I will not let my positive views about their beauty items interfere with my largely negative views of their clothing. What I like: their bikini underwear can be great in fit and quality, though it is overpriced. I can find similar similarly fitting bikinis (though not as cute in design or colors) at Kohl's. What I don't like: VS bras and mail order clothing! Their bras simply don't do for me what they promise, the straps lose elasticity right away and slip horribly, and I often cannot find my size (34 or 36A). I don't believe the bras fit my body ideally; they are made for someone, but that someone is not me. For years I've had a bra that fits like a dream and has lost its tag. I went to zafu.com and took a long-ass, comprehensive,"find your ideal bra" survey (you should try this!!!). They recommended a Maidenform bra. I located it, and it turned out to be the exact same missing-tagged bra I already had. These $15.00 bras fit me better than a $45 VS bra. I last bought VS clothing (bunch of shirts and sweaters) from a VS catalog probably 8 years ago. It was a complete disappointment. They were not not tailored or proportionate. The sleeves were way too long and narrow, the top part of the shirts sagged open or stuck out clownishly in an "open jar" position. The bottom parts hung like boxes over my small waist. I have a well-proportioned, petite hourglass figure, 34-24-36. I am small chested, but my chest fits with my proportions. These tops were tailored to fit nobody I know, perhaps nobody in existence. And yes, they were wildly overpriced. After having ordered their clothing, I can see why they don't sell clothing in their actual stores. People would see how badly they are cut.

Other -Crest - Pro-Health Toothpaste

I absolutely hate the way this stuff tastes while I brush, and the aftertaste goes on and on, like an Everlasting Gobstopper of evil. Just awful.

Other -Crest - Pro-Health Rinse
bibliophile 9/18/2008 3:31:00 AM
Hmm...I am puzzled and intrigued by the reviews stating all these bad outcomes from this product. I have never had a problem. I don't use this every day. I would say more like once every three days. I have never had any problem whatsoever- no brown stains, no numbness, nothing. My biggest complaint would be that this doesn't burn at all. That burn makes me feel like a mouthwash is working. I like-no, LOVE- the burn I get from other mouthwashes. I would add that I don't drink coffee, tea, or cola. I have heard of those products having a synergistic browning effect upon mouthwash users' teeth.

Polishes -China Glaze - Long Kiss
bibliophile 9/18/2008 3:22:00 AM
Long Kiss looks the way I *wanted* Essie's After Sex to look - sleek, sophisticated and sexy. I would say this is a neutral-toned burgundy red in the bottle. Thankfully, there is not even a hint of dreaded pink or magenta once this is applied. I could imagine this color working for many women who thought they could not wear reds or burgundies. I would buy this again, and I could strongly recommend it to others. Wearing power is excellent on my toes. I have had this on for two weeks-that's right, TWO WEEKS- and I only got one tiny chip on one nail yesterday. At this point, the biggest problem is that my "roots" are showing.

Conditioner -Victoria's Secret - So Sexy Nourishing Conditioner
bibliophile 8/30/2008 2:14:00 AM
This product smells wonderful, but its conditioning properties range from forgettable to sub-standard. I color my hair and the ends feel kind of like fiberglass. This only makes the damaged areas feel worse. Because it didn't work so well on me, I use this on my toddler's hair for detangling. It works well on her hair and makes her smell awesome, though not sexy (thankfully).

Mascara -L'Oreal - Lash Out
bibliophile 6/16/2008 1:43:00 PM
I hadn't been able to wear mascara for about 2 years. I had to start wearing RGP lenses again and every damned mascara I tried flaked, got under my lenses and caused untold suffering, so I quit even trying to wear mascara. Yet I could not get used to the nakedness of my eyes. I remembered having loved this back in the 90s, so I decided to try again on a whim. Well, I LOVE this because it absolutely does not flake or clump and it wears beautifully. It isn't as dramatic as what I used to be able to wear, but it is still very good-looking on, and wearing some mascara is so much better than no mascara at all, especially on my pale blonde lashes.

Lotions/ Creams -Victoria's Secret - Beauty Rush Grapesicle Body Drink Lotion
bibliophile 6/16/2008 1:24:00 PM
This fragranced lotion layers beautifully with Grapesicle Body Double Mist. I guess as far as mousturizing, this is just average, which is great for summer, since I don't want to feel like I'm coated in heavy grease. This cream is slightly runny, so I have to be careful when dispensing it. The fragrance in it just lasts so long and smells so fresh and summery, like soft grapesicle mixed with some sort of pink floral accord and ocean. The lotion starts out smelling artificial but as it warms it turns into something really beautiful and pleasant on me. I would likely buy this again, though to me this is definitely a summer fragrance.

Fragrances -Victoria's Secret - Beauty Rush body double mist- Grapesicle
bibliophile 6/16/2008 12:32:00 PM
I just bought this, though I had my eye on it for over a year. After spritzing myself a couple times, walking around the mall for 2 hours, I caved. Not only did it last, the smell just got better and better. It started out artificial and Grape-Kool-Aid smelling, but then it softened and bloomed out into something else, like a grape with some sort of pink floral undertones, mixed with ocean. It just smells fresh and summery, and I can't get over how it lasts without being "loud". Combined with the grapesicle body lotion, it lasts more than 24 hours on me. AMAZING for what it is. I got it on sale: Beauty Rush 3 for $25 deal, so it only cost $8.33, and just two spritzes do the trick. I feel like I dug in the bargain basement and struck summer gold.

Fragrances -Victoria's Secret - Beauty Rush Body Double Mist in Candy, Baby
bibliophile 6/16/2008 11:58:00 AM
I was in VS, shopping with my 19 month old daughter. Toddlers are grabby. She snatched it and in about 2 seconds she had it open, ready to LICK the sprayer. I got it away from her, and I could smell why she thought it was edible. It smelled delicious, like strawberry juice mixed with cotton candy, and not a hint of anything artificial. I got it mainly for her. I don't use it on myself because it doesn't last. But I spray it on her clothing as a reward if she is being good. She LOVES it, and if she starts to act up, I only have to remind her that if she wants "cott cane" - that's what she calls it - she should or should not do (XYZ). That is the reason I said I would buy it again. I gave it only a 4 because it doesn't last and it takes about 5 spritzes to get a good fragrance level. If the shortcomings could be improved, it would be a better value. I never thought I'd see the day when I used "perfume" on a toddler! At least the candy scent seems appropriately innocent.

Eyeliner -Merle Norman - Lasting Creme Eyeliner
bibliophile 2/15/2008 11:43:00 PM
After trying on black and Aubergine, I got this in Augbergine. I noticed the black shade received many hyper-enthusiastic recommendations, but it looked ghastly on me, as I am a blonde with pale, washed out eyebrows and pale, sallow skin. I would really give this a 4.5 rating if I could. It has incredible staying power, but I am not 100% satisfied with the color range and selection for the pigment challenged (such as me). I could go on, but really the black was the blackest black ever, and it seemed I could not thin or soften it in any way. So, as usual, I had to go with a soft plummy color which is almost too washed out. The upside is, unlike Bobbi Brown Creme eyeliner, which I also reviewed, this really lasts, and it goes on more evenly. This cost $17.50 when I bought it in late November or December 2007. About packaging: the glass jar is too smooth and slippery. I lost my grip, dropped it, and the eyeliner came out as one firm blob. I was able to immediately re-pot it (luckily the bathroom floor had just been sanitized thoroughly), but in less fortunate circumstances, I might have had to trash this. Be careful handling the package. I said I would buy this again, but I think it will take a very long time to use all this, unless it dries out prematurely, like my Bobbi Brown.

Shampoo -Alberto Vo5 - Passion Fruit Smoothie
bibliophile 9/16/2007 6:26:00 AM
This is probably the best cheapo shampoo I have ever used. It didn't dry me out as much as I expected (maybe not at all), and it smelled great. I plan to get more of this; I just finished my second bottle. The only reason I gave it 4 stars instead of 5 is that the fragrance does not last in my hair, and it isn't as gentle as my HG (So Sexy by Victoria's Secret). Still, I alternate a lot between this and that. I would highly recommend this.

Self Tanners -L'Oreal - Sublime Bronze Tinted Self-Tanning Lotion in Natural Medium Tan
bibliophile 8/23/2007 3:59:00 PM
I bought this because I like other Sublime Bronze products, but this one is just okay. The true texture of this is not reallly a lotion at all. It is like a very thick gel, with sparkles. The sparkles are at least subtle, but I see no reason for them to be there at all. It is difficult to get this blended just right, but if you don't you will get a streaky, blotchy application. I noticed that this says it should be used within six months. The reason I think this is advised is because the sparkles will start to clump together and make application even more difficult. If you take a tremendous amount of time and effort (plan for at least 40 minutes), this can be made to look good. Otherwise, don't bother because pale skin would look better than a careless application of this. When I am finished with this, I won't repurchase. I paid about $8.50 for this at Wal-Mart, and I wish I had that money for something else.
