I've used this off and on for years. Never have been very excited about it, until yesterday. I found the REAL purpose for it : IT DETANGLES. WOW. I am ENDLESSLY on the hunt for detangler. One that is not too heavy, its like trying to find a unicorn. I have tried sprays, leave ins etc.. I have fine shoulder length wavy / curly hair that I straighten and its colored / highlighted. WOW. Put it on tangly hair wet just-out-of-the-shower hair, combed right through. Blow dried straight with just a vent brush, didn't have to straight iron, REALLY helped with the frizziness. I have some broken hair towards my scalp that sometimes pop up, this smoothed everything down, and its not heavy. I normally wash 2x a week, sometimes 3, I don't like heavy stuff on my hair. This is light enough. I don't use the light version, just normal, and I don't use much. Sometimes I smooth on ends after hair is dry, it helps add weight to my fine hair, but its not heavy. Love.
Primer/ Corrector -MAC - Prep + Prime Fortified Skin Enhancer - Illuminate
SkinnyCow 2/11/2012 10:38:00 PM
I am a huge fan of MAC's prep n prime spf 50 primer. Its one of few very true HG's for me. So the fact that this was also Prep n Prime was intriguing. I wish the SA I spoke to knew more about it. Yea, I guess its a color corrector - Illuminate is really kind of just a brightener, the other MAC skin enhancers are true color correctors - but I wanted to know if it was a primer also. I am thinking it is. I mix this with my other MAC primer and I really love it. Its not grossly shimmery - I am 44 and I don't do well with shimmer / glitter really. Its brightening and illuminating as the name indicates. I put it all over my face with my primer and go back and put a little more around my eye area, which is usually the darkest part of my face. Its not overly liquidy - its lighter than the primer but its not wet on your face or anything. $30 for 1oz. I did put I would repurchase. I use such a small amount and wear make up so infrequently that I would not be purchasing again soon, but I do like it. I think for others who want a true color corrector, look at the other skin enhancers, the quality of the Illuminate is good, so hopefully the others are as well.
Would I buy again ? I already did. I am 44. Skin is combo, if I treat as dry, it seems to do better. This stuff has moved it self up to the HG of all HG's. I've tried EVERYTHING. High end / low end / natural / stuff from the derm / Private Client stuff that was $$$$ from my plastic surgeon, NOTHING has delivered results like this stuff does. NOTHING. Everything it says it does, it did. Within 2 weeks I noticed clarity. My number one issue is skin tone and uneven color. It helped immensely. I had little tiny pimples or something on my forehead foreverrrrr, GONE. I have the fragrance free spf15. I love it. It is also firming which I also found amazing. It does NOT sting, which almost everything does sting me, so that is a plus. I just got the Total Effects cleanser with 2% salicylic acid, moving away from a 15 year HG of Neutrogena oil free acne wash, and I have not regretted it yet. One thing - this stuff has made my skin a little photosensitive. Which is amazing because NO DRUGSTORE product has been strong enough to do this. But I wear additional sunscreen and spf15 isn't really enough anyway.
Eye Shadow -Maybelline - Color Tattoo 24hr Cream Gel Shadow
SkinnyCow 1/15/2012 5:40:00 PM
I got this in the purple one. I don't technically know the name.. sorry. This is not as pigmented as I thought.. but if you can get past that, its good. It blends well, wears well, the color is true to what you see in the pot. Its impressive. SOMETHING is going on over at Maybelline. They have it going on lately. Mascara, eye shadow, foundation. Its impressive.
Treatments -Unlisted Brand - Perfect Formula Pink Gel Coat
SkinnyCow 8/24/2011 10:15:00 AM
This is a long time lemming. I've seen it around - QVC and Sephora for a while. The price is a big turn off, I think its expensive at $30. I also don't think it should be in a bottle that looks JUST like Sally Hansens, which is a fraction of the price, but whatever. My nails are typically very weak. Break, peel - major ridges etc... I had just taken off OPI axxiom gel nails, which makes my nails REALLY weak and I needed something so they didn't break so far down into the nail bed like usual. I put on 2 coats, and I could feel the difference at the end of the day. I don't know about optical brighteners or whatever people are talking about, but the pink tint is nice. The finish is shiny, not overly shiny though. I have only had this on for 2 days. I will see how it goes. I'm already really impressed but I will have to write an update. If this can make my nails grow and not rip / tear / break, it will be a miracle.
Hair Styling Tools -Conair - Infiniti You Curl No Clamp Curling Iron
SkinnyCow 7/9/2011 5:00:00 PM
WOW !! not surprised about the ratings here. This thing is ZE BOMB !!! It curls the HECK out of your hair. Seriously. And these curls LAST. You can certainly get your Taylor Swift curls going with this thing. I don't use the glove. Its cumbersome. But there are NO negatives to this. The price is great and it works. Works a lot better than I even thought it would.
I am very surprised I haven't owned this for years. I must not have noticed OR been really scared of the glitter. I swatched this in the store, love the color. I LOVE teal. This looks similar to Galapagos to me, as far as texture and the chunky looking glitter. Read all the reviews here, and I don't regret buying this. I am not a NOOB when it comes to glittery e/s. I have UD Midnight cowboy and it still is hands down the chunkiest / glitter bomb e/s ever. Tropic is thankfully nothing like that. Its surprising to me how little fall out I got from the glitter and how little the glitter actually showed up on my lids. The SA told me this is not a 'swipe around your lid' color, more of a push/press on to your lid. I actually did both, and it was fine. But let me tell you, Use this WET with a brush as E/L and its heavenly, as is Galapagos. I LOVE IT. The glitter shows up much more if you wet this. If you don't like that, don't wet it. I love it glittery as a liner. This is beautiful. I found it a little hard to blend, much like a MAC matte, but workable and in the end GORGEOUS. I love this color. Love. NARS e/s do not disappoint. This is so beautiful. I used it as an outside crease color and to line. I used NARS Fez on the lid with it. Gorgeous.
Hair -Got 2 Be - Rockin' It Encore Fresh Dry Shampoo
SkinnyCow 6/17/2011 6:14:00 PM
Best. Dry. Shampoo. Ever. I have tried them all : Furterer, Ojon. Oscar Biandi, Tresemme, Suave, John Frieda, Batiste, Bumble and Bumble, Psst - who knows what else. Furterer is good. And its $25 a can. Too much. I got this as a BOGOF at Walgreens and normal price is about $6. I wash my hair 2x a week. I like to use dry shampoo on my bangs on about day 2-3 after a wash, EVERY other dry shampoo makes my hair look worse. It really does. This makes your hair look like you washed it. Yes. The texture doesn't get all jacked up either. My hair is fine and I can tell right away if anything is in it. This is nice. NICE NICE NICE. I LOVE YOU ROCKIN IT ! So damn glad I found this. Put it on my Facebook page too. Best Ever.
I saw Tiffanys video on this, I've been watching the reviews on MUA. A LOT of people claim it turns you orange, I could see this happening to me. But still, intrigued. FInally sampled at the store, it wasn't bad. I got a little kit, it had the Gin Zing eye cream, this and a scrub. I like it, NO ORANGE. I am 44. I'd say about NC 30 in MAC. My skin is combo / dry. I find this to be very moisturizing. The SPF 15 is nice but I know I don't use enough to get the benefit of SPF. A little goes a long way with this stuff. I do what Tiffany does, really work it in, blend. It just looks better and better. I do see the glowy - ness. I like it. It did not make me break out. The smell is ok, maybe citrusy ? I don't typically wear much if any foundation daily, this is nice to even everything out. Maybe put some powder over it.. you don't need to. The size I have is a sample. I think I would repurchase. I do not have much luck with tinted moisturizers. They are usually underwhelming ( yes even Laura Mercier ) I find this GRIPS my skin better, lasts longer and has a decent finish that you can actually see. It doesn't just disappear but it doesn't look like you are wearing much either.
Primer/ Corrector -Sephora - Immediate Wrinkle Filler
SkinnyCow 4/13/2011 4:32:00 PM
This stuff is quite amazing. I liked how it felt when I sampled at the store. I used today.. Over my primer under everything else. I can definitely tell the difference. Reviews here say you could use as a primer too. It REALLLY made my concealer STICK under my eyes. Not drying. Very nice. Only a little bit needed and it REALLY smoothed everything out. I applied this about 5 hours ago, and it still looks great. I am very impressed. Not giving a 5 cuz I have not used it long enough.
Lip Treatments -The Body Shop - Vitamin E Lip Care SPF 15
SkinnyCow 4/6/2011 10:30:00 AM
This is a 'why bother'. Its NOT moisturizing, its waxy and it seems to disappear / wear off immediately. I like SPF 15, but this just doesn't even seem like its going on your lips. I think I might toss it.
This was kind of a 'whim' purchase. This color is very bright, but every time I saw it I wanted it. I am glad I purchased it. I am 43, this is not my typical e/s color, but its great as a wash. Its very brightening and not over whelming if applied lightly. I think due to the smooth, not too glittery - shimmery formula, it works perfectly. I really love this es. I think maybe its LE, IDK, but I think is a must have. I am fair skinned, to reference NC25 probably.. but this would REALLY work well on darker skinned women, espc african american I think because its bright-ish and you can apply it a little more concentrated. I love this color.
Makeup Brushes -MAC - #168 Large Angled Contour Brush
SkinnyCow 1/28/2011 4:15:00 PM
I have the SE version, I know the 'real' one is better but I am going to wait until I really need to get one. I got this in a kit and didn't use it for a while. I saw TiffanyD use it with cream blush which I think it works really with. One day I tried it with powder. Very nice. I never thought I'd like something more than 187, but I think I do now :D So to be able to use this with cream and powder is a big plus. I really like the shape of the brush and its very easy to control where you put the product and its good at blending.
This is my ALL time favorite MAC e/s and probably my favorite e/s overall. I think this doesn't get used enough/noticed for a few reasons. Its a Pro color and not so many pro stores around, and its reallllly dark in the pan. Swatch it. You are going to see the most beautiful green. Hunter green as described in other reviews, no sparkle/shimmer, its a matt. This is SUCH a great e/s to use as e/l with a wet brush. That is how I use it the most. Its a great crease color and its great as a concentrated color on the lid that you can slightly blend out into the crease. If you do a Patina wash with this on the lid blended into the crease, then use wet as an e/l - you are going to get a GREAT look. My eyes are hazel, it makes them look green. Its good on brown eyes as my DD does this, and I know it would be good on blue.
Lotions/ Creams -Yes To Carrots - C Through the Dry Spell Deliciously Rich Body Butter
SkinnyCow 12/31/2010 10:43:00 AM
I don't use a lot of body lotions. They sit on my skin, make me feel sweaty and gross, but not this. This stuff is TRULY different. The consistency for me was like pudding in the tub, which I love. I feel this actually changed the look of my skin when I put it on. Not shiny but just more vibrant, its hard to describe. It absorbs in quickly, like you can get dressed right after. The scent is not my favorite, but it does not linger which is good. I actually look forward to putting this on. Most moisturizers I dread. I have not used it on my face, which I saw someone else did, it would be a consideration. Most things don't make me break out anyway. I got the big tub, on sale at Walgreens for $8. Well worth it. I put this on yesterday and I can still feel it IN my skin. Not that its greasy or anything, but the texture is different, not dry or ashy. This product REALLY makes me wonder about other yes to carrots products. I think I will check out other stuff.
