Blush -NYX - Taupe
Nick_Tesla 7/12/2009 4:51:00 PM
I bought this eyeshadow to contour my face with, but it didn't work well. Too light, and not matte enough. As an eyeshadow it's fine--more light tan than taupe, like butter in the pan, very easy to blend, tiny bit pearly. "No makeup" makeup looking on me, and I'm fairly pale.

Lipstick -Urban Decay - 5150
Nick_Tesla 7/12/2009 4:34:00 PM
Color: Vivid ruby coral Finish: semi-sheer, with wet looking shimmer Pros: outstanding color, cute packaging, probably lovely on most skin tones, pretty, pretty, pretty Cons: slightly annoying scent, unfortunate taste (see other new UD lipstick reviews), expensive, packaging awkward to use Overall opinion: Lipstick color of the year, IMHO. Just wonderful, and perfect for summer. But I will admit, that the smell is somewhat unpleasant, and the taste worse--sort of worringly chemical and bitter. Also, the tube is a bit too big, and you have to open it by pulling the little dagger at the end. All that said, I forgive it because it's the color of my dreams.

Blush -Cover Girl - Cheekers Blush in Pretty Peach
Nick_Tesla 7/12/2009 4:21:00 PM
Color: Sheer pink-peach with a pearl finish. Pros: Buildable, flattering, natural color; likely to work on both warm and cool skin tones; very cheap; glowy Cons: odd smell (wears off quickly); brush it comes with is worthless and should be thrown away; may be too pearly for some; sheer color might not show up well on medium-dark skin Overall opinion: I love it. It's very fresh and pretty on, and the sheerness allows me to wear it as a pop of color, or barely there. The pearly finish has never gone discoball on me, though SO did once tell me I looked like I was glowing. Can't ask for more than that. I'm cool-neutral and moderately pale, for reference.

Lipstick -NARS - Scarlett Empress
Nick_Tesla 2/11/2009 10:19:00 PM
Scarlet Empress is a beautiful deep, cold berry with a bit of a hot pink undertone. I find the texture to be a little too creamy and satiny to be considered matte. It's very, very buildable, and looks great with a thick, super dark application (which starts to bring out its more plum tones), as well as a blotted down to a pink stain. It's super long wearing and a generally high quality lipstick, with one caveat: for perfectly smooth application, IME it really does require lip exfoliation and a hint of balm beforehand.

Lip Gloss -MAC - c-thru lipglass
Nick_Tesla 1/10/2009 12:57:00 PM
Warm leaning, highly pigmented, milky beige lipgloss. Can be too light with heavy application, especially on light lips. But if you want shiny, pale lips, or you plan on using it sheerly for partial lip color neutralization (the warmth of the color cancels out a bit of the pink in rosy lips, and obviously the gloss lightens overall color), C-thru may be for you. I hated the tackiness and thickness of it, but have yet to find a perfect dupe for the color. Loreal Color Juice in Pina Colada is comparable, but smells cheap and had somewhat wimpier pigmentation.

Eyeliner -MAC - Taupe eyepencil
Nick_Tesla 9/12/2008 5:07:00 AM
Exactly what it sounds like: a goes-with-everything Taupe eye liner. As it's not a Kohl, Taupe is good for clean lines, though you can smudge it if you try, and it wears well. It is also a great color for filling in the brows, and can even come in handy as a lip pencil. I found it to be a very useful multi-purpose product.

Eye Shadow -MAC - Mulch eyeshadow
Nick_Tesla 9/12/2008 4:52:00 AM
If Angelina Jolie had been a brown eyeshadow... No, haha, I think I'm funny because it's late at night... But really, Mulch is a medium-dark frosty brown eyeshadow with red and golden undertones. And it's beautiful on. It's probably more popular than it deserves, but it's also really hot. That's what I was getting at. When I run out I'll probably repurchase because it's great to have for neutral and glam looks, plus I can use it to fill in my eyebrows.

Mascara -MAC - Fibre Rich Lash Mascara
Nick_Tesla 9/12/2008 4:42:00 AM
I can't believe I'm saying this, but MAC seems to have a good mascara on its hands. Not outstanding, but solid. Having disliked Zoomlash, Pro Lash, and Pro Longlash, I was prepared to regret buying this one too (I'm occasionally irrational for B2M, sue me.), but you know, I might re-purchase it. I got about eight months out of mine. It lasted all day, layered and lengthened reasonably well, didn't flake or smudge off, and didn't really clump.

Eyeliner -MAC - Phone Number eye kohl
Nick_Tesla 9/12/2008 4:28:00 AM
Pretty, but average product. Phone Number is a tastefully shimmery, almost wet looking dark gray.Soft and smudgy, it is ideal for smoky eyes and waterlines. For the same reasons, it can also be a mess and doesn't wear particularly well.

Lip Liners -Prestige - Love
Nick_Tesla 9/12/2008 4:21:00 AM
This is Barbie pink, not the fuchsia I'd been looking for. Like all of Prestige's liners I've tried, the texture is very acceptable--it draws on smoothly and evenly. Unfortunately, I find the color to be unflattering and IME (which was, it is worth noting, not like most of the reviewers') very limited in what products it works well with. I found it too muted to be a great hot pink and too bright to be a basic pink. For a hotter hot pink, I recommend NARS Funny Face. For a slightly darker but still neon, more purplish pink, you might try MAC Magenta.

Lip Liners -Prestige - Lipliner L-210 Amore
Nick_Tesla 9/12/2008 4:10:00 AM
The texture of Prestige's lip pencils is very nice for the money. While it isn't quite up there with NARS, it costs about a fifth of the price, and is on par with many of MAC's. My complaint is the color. I was looking for a basic red liner, and this is not it. I find the brightness of Amore undesirable, as it is lighter and more vivid than most "classic" red lipsticks out there. Unfortunately, I just didn't find it useful.

Misc Beauty Tools -MAC - Full lash curler
Nick_Tesla 9/12/2008 4:02:00 AM
I guess I'm in the minority here. MAC's curler didn't work well for me. It isn't terrible, but the curve of it doesn't fit my eyes particularly well, it tends to make unattractively sharp angles (as opposed to smooth curves), and it comes with two rubber pad things to fit it, after which point it is meant to be replaced. I'm going to splurge on Shu next time.

Lip Gloss -MAC - Lustreglass - Venetian
Nick_Tesla 9/12/2008 3:46:00 AM
Sheer pink based red gloss, comparable to Dior's now dead Caramel Apple Diorkiss (though not as thick, or pigmented). Because Venetian is a Lustreglass, it isn't particularly sticky or long lasting, but it does make a decent gloss for everyday wear. I've found it to be a good standby both by itself and used with other lip products.

Eye Shadow -MAC - Print Eyeshadow
Nick_Tesla 9/12/2008 3:42:00 AM
Print is a very good basic medium gray e/s. As with most of MAC's Satins, it's buildable color with a matte (but not flat or chalky) finish. Obviously, it works beautifully for a smoky eye, but it's also very useful for both softer and more colorful looks. Unremarkable, but versatile shadow.

Fragrances -MAC - Creations Fragrance Blend Variation Parfumee MV3 [DISCONTINUED]
Nick_Tesla 9/11/2008 8:09:00 PM
I'VE NEVER REVIEWED THIS???!! I've gotten MV3 twice, and used it up both times. The big, discontinued bottles, not the new, smaller ones. The smell is warm, heavy, and sexy without being overpowering, and the price is fairly low, from what little I've seen of the perfume world. Though not a perky, girlie scent, it is soft and pleasant after a couple minutes, drying down to a slightly earthy vanilla with a hint of wood and leather that stays inoffensively close to the skin. Gender-neutral, IMO, and hot as hell, whoever it's on, provided it works well with their body chemistry. It was the only perfume I had for many years, and I couldn't have been happier. Will re-re-purchase. HG.
