Makeup Brushes -Shu Uemura - Powder brush 18R

First, I feel like I need to make a very obvious statement that descriptive words are very subjective. For example the word "soft", what one person my consider soft another person may actually find not very soft at all. Now that the obvious is out of the way. If you are looking for a brush that isn't for buffing in powder, but more like sweeping on powder, this brush provides a beautiful even finish. I think the "spring" in these bristle attribute to that factor. This brush picks up an excellent amount of powder with ease. The level of coverage depends on the level of coverage the powder itself provides. A denser brush will provide more coverage in one layer, but this brush provides even coverage and easily build-able coverage in layers (depending on the powder) While dipping this brush into a full coverage foundation powder, I get an even medium coverage easily. Meaning I can use less powder. The Red Dye of the brush makes it really stand out, but personally I think it may have damaged the actual goat hairs themselves. drying them out making them more brittle than other brushes I own ( I own hakuhodo white goat hair as a comparison). I received the brush in a swap, and it seemed like the girl before didn't use it much at all, I did not ask how long she had owned it though. Looking back now, I probably should have asked. Goat hair needs to be used. Goat hair Naturally is quite oily. So Goat works incredibly well with oily skin without the brush becoming limp from the oils. Though I think this brush is wonderful, and does exactly what I want it to do there are two issues for me. First, being that the brush is dyed (or just dried out from lack of use by the previous owner) no how gentle I am with this brush, no matter how much I use it on my oily skin, no matter what soft cleanser and powerful moisturizer I use, the bristles of this brush are slowing breaking short. Like damaged hair on a person with anorexia (their hair starts to break off from lack of vitamins) Second issue I have is that I personally have very sensitive skin, and due to that reason I find this brush to be a bit scratchy. If I do not put my powder on slowly and with a super gentle hand, I will very easily make my face hurt or feel rather uncomfortable. With the Current $52 price tag I would like a brush that the bristles weren't so dry and rough. I am currently looking for a similar brush to replace this one.

Concealers -NARS - Radiant Creamy Concealer
rated 2 of 5
LadyKolie 3/19/2013 11:58:00 AM

:: Reference :: my skin is NC/NW 10ish or Nars Sheer Glow Siberia and Gobi. I have Acne prone, extremely sensitive, combination, oily skin. I have a lot of topical and internal allergies/ intolerances. (wheat, soy, msg (yes it is in some makeup), beeswax, bismuth oxychloride) It is a good concealer, BUT I prefer my concealers a little more yellow based to cover redness better. My healing marks, and broken capillaries, and hyper-pigmentation are covered better (and with a thin layer) by a more yellow based concealer to neutralize the red. I felt like I had to use a bit more of this Nars concealer just to cover the same red marks than I do of my Bobbi Brown concealer. I also feel like The Nars accentuates flakes more that I would like it too when I use it around my nose or any other dry or healing skin. And it isn't pink correcting enough to cover undereye blue/green/grey/ or purple, in my opinion. But I think this Varies greatly on your skin tone. Vanilla was a smidgen too light for my undereyes, but smidgen honey too dark. (I know bobbi brown isn't for everyone and I don't like most of her products but) My bobbi brown corrector in Light bisque still takes the cake of brightening my eye area greyness. I have a darkness around my eye because my eyes are deeper set, and I have a little under eye darkness from rarely getting enough consistent sleep. I feel like the Nars RCC in Vanilla was just a little too light, but I could have gotten away with using it, however the bigger issue is that it didn't wear as nicely as my BB. The Nars seemed a little drying and made my eyes look a little older for the wear. A pinky skin tone concealer like this Nars one is probably best for very minor pink marks or brightening darker spots like old completely healed scars. I don't like the doe foot applicator honestly (this only time I accept a doe foot is for a gloss, anything use a doe foot annoys the crap out of me... I am looking at you Nars eye primer) I prefer a pot so I can get out all of the concealer or a tube so I can cut it open and depot the rest when it is lowv. In a Doe foot, I will never be able to get all of the product out, which feels like a waste of product and money. I have also noticed that cyclopentasiloxane (second ingredient in the concealer) stresses out my skin a bit as far as for daily use. If I put it around my nose I will have little clogs by the end of the day where as using my Bobbi Brown concealer in Sand, I won't have this issue out side of normal clogging from my natural oils after a few days. This is just my opinion and each person has there own reactions to this. But I Personally do not care for this product.

Primer/ Corrector -Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics - Skin Primer
rated 1 of 5
LadyKolie 3/18/2013 3:01:00 PM

I haven't tried this product. I am putting this "review" here simply because the last person to leave a review said that this wasn't cone free and the ingredient list on this page says it contains dimethicone BUT on the Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics page This is the Ingredient list :: OCC SKIN PRIMER INGREDIENTS: Deionized Water (Aqua), Vegetable-Derived Glycerin, Xanthan Gum, Chamomile (Anthemis Noblis) Extract, Comfrey Root Extract, Lemon Peel Extract, Phenoxyethanol, Sodium Benzoate, Potassium Sorbate OCC changed ingredients. They haven't updated the website to reflect a change. Apparently this has Dimethicone as the 3rd ingredient now.

Foundations -NARS - Gobi
rated 4 of 5
LadyKolie 1/24/2013 12:26:00 PM

For Reference my skin is NC/NW 10ish or Nars Sheer Glow Mont Blanc in the summer. I have Acne prone, extremely sensitive, combination, oily skin. I have a lot of topical and internal allergies/ intolerances. (wheat, soy, msg (yes it is in some makeup), beeswax, bismuth oxychloride)) Highlight/quick REVIEW this product: NARS Sheer Glow in Gobi My Foundation Check List:: Correct shade match ::check No Sunscreen ::check (I am picky about sunscreen) Versatile Coverage ::check (light to medium) Lasting (10+ hours) ::check (powdered, primer, or both) Good for Combination/oily skin ::check No reactions, acne, or topical reaction ::check Transfer resistant :: Check Pigmentation :: medium (several drops cover the whole face) Finish :: semi/dewy (depends on skin type with out setting) Application recommendation :: fingers (brush will work too but fingers are better) I ALWAYS USE A PRIMER. This is my HG liquid foundation,. Mostly because of the ingredient list and the colour match for my skin. It is currently winter and I feel that Gobi is a better match since my skin isn't as pink as it is in the summer. (I don't really get darker or lighter as much as pinker and yellower due to being pale) I typically have oily/combination skin. The line down the middle of my face is oily. It isn't even a T zone. It's eyebrow to eye brow and down. The edges of my face are combination. However, I was used benzoyl peroxide (the amount of a grain of rice) for a few months and noticed my skin became incredibly dry and mirco flaky. The dryness wasn't noticeable until I put on foundation. When I applied this foundation on my skin, it accentuated my dry skin and stuck in my pores. I found mixing with a moisturizer helped this some. When not using BP, this foundation looks smooth and flawless on my skin. I do not need full coverage, and I only want enough pigment to even out the tone and redness in my face. When I want more coverage I can apply a second layer. However, I wouldn't use this to cover up blemishes or scaring. It lets your skin, well, look more like skin, so large pores and scaring will still show through. I have never found anything that didn't fill in large pores but covered them without looking fake or cakey. I have never found a concealer than covered scabby pimples or raw skin flawlessly. I have never found a foundation that makes my scars disappear from my face complete. I was looking for a foundation to even out skin tone, redness, and let my natural skin show through, while providing hours and hours of coverage with out breaking me out and be my exact colour match, this is the only foundation that meets my requirements.

Makeup Brushes -Hakuhodo - k007
rated 5 of 5
LadyKolie 1/24/2013 11:58:00 AM

First the Quality. If you are looking for a natural hair (made from weasel), fine tipped precision eyeliner brush, then I would STRONGLY suggest this brush. Makes incredibly thin lines easily, doesn't shed, and places the product exactly where you put it. Flawless. Price. I have tried the Mac 209 brush. It is $4 dollars more than this Haku version. The Haku is not only less expensive, But it is also better made, far Superior precision, and applies eyeliner smoothly. If I ever lost or broken this brush I would immediately replace it with another K007. Hands down. If you have never owned a single Hakuhodo brush, I will inform you that you are, in fact, missing out. I have super sensitive oily skin, so I lean towards the goat hair brushes because they hold up better for oily skin since the brush will have to be washed more than a brush for dry skin (squirrel is best for dry). Honestly it is whatever you want and whatever works for you.

Eyes -Illamasqua - Delirium
rated 2 of 5
LadyKolie 12/6/2012 4:09:00 PM

For Reference my skin is NC/NW 07-10 or Nars Sheer Glow Mont Blanc or illamasqua 3.5. I have Acne prone, extremely sensitive, combination, oily skin. I have a lot of topical and internal allergies/ intolerances. (wheat, soy, msg (yes it is in some makeup), beeswax, bismuth oxychloride) Highlight/quick REVIEW this product: Versatile (eyes, lips, cheeks, anywhere, heavy or light application) Can be long wearing when set with a powder Emollient, smooth, and creamy Wonderful pigmentation Easy Application A little goes a long way (on pale skin) Expensive Crap packaging (though interesting to look at because of shape) Detailed REVIEW: This product has not caused me any issues. I have the cream pigments in Mould, Delirium, Hollow, and a liquid metal in Solstice (which is a different product than the cream pigments but similar ) I saw that as an overall, the cream pigments from illamasqua have not received very good reviews here on MUA. This isn't simply an eye shadow cream, this is a pigmented cream you can use anywhere on your face and body (I mean you can use this on your eyes, as a liner, as a blusher, as a lip color). This important thing to remember about a cream like this is that you HAVE TO SET IT with a powder. I prefer a translucent talc powder. I am wearing mould right now on my eyes, and I have set it with a powder, it has yet to crease in the several hours that I have wore it and I have deep set eyes that products crease easily on. Delirium is described on the illamasqua website as being a rosy taupe. I would strong agree with this statement. Because of it's rosiness it can be used quite nicely as a blusher. On the lips, depending on your colouring and tone, it can look like a muted rose. On the eyes, it makes a wonderful rosy taupe all over lid colour, which like I mentioned will need to be set with a powder. I have no problems wearing this product all day on my face. I like to use a brush to apply it simply because I have difficultly spreading creams with my fingers on my face (a personal issue) Cream pigments in U.S. currently rate at $26 for 8 grams of product. So it is rather pricey. But because a little goes a long way and I can use it in so many different ways I find that this colour is worth it (for at least this single purchase, I am unsure if I really "need" this so I may not buy again, though I would suggest if you are interested, you should try an illamasqua cream pigment in whatever shade you think will be most useful to you.) Also I would like to mention, that though I love black packaging in neat shapes, I am not not thrilled with illamasqua packaging of their creams products. The top is difficult to use, it has not lip and you are supposed to pull it off straight, only a snap action keeps it closed. This bothers me because cream products have issues with drying out and I do not think this container will keep the product from this. I am considering investing in a unii palette because they seem air tight in their construction, so I can depot this cream products and keep them in something safer. I don't particular like this Product for myself. I don't like cream eyeshadows and I don't like having to set it with powder

Since this is a cream product it is emollient. This formula isn't dry and spreads very easily. It is a little too emollient so like I have mentioned you will need to set it if you are using on your eyes. Since I am in the pale category, Mould is a pigment can be a little too dark if I am not careful. It also seems to make a lovely purple eye wash/base with a shimmer on top of it. Cream pigments in U.S. currently rate at $26 for 8 grams of product. So it is rather pricey. Unlike the other cream pigments I own, this one is not as versatile to me simply because of how pale I am. I haven't fully experimented with it, but the color is absolutely beautiful. I will update this review based on how this product reacts when I am done experimenting, however it is unlikely that I will repurchase this color again, only because it isn't necessary for me to own it. Also I would like to mention, that though I love black packaging, I am not not thrilled with illamasqua packaging of their creams products. Meaning you need to used a translucent powder and set the product once you have placed it. I am wearing Illamasqua cream pigment in Mould and Delirium on my eyes right now. I set them with talc and placed a little shimmer over the top, It's been hours and it hasn't creased at all and I have deep set eyes that can very easily cause creasing. I also use an eye primer for this reason. I would strongly suggest on with cream pigments. Since this is a cream product it is emollient. This formula isn't too dry and spreads very easily. It is a little too emollient so like I have mentioned you will need to set it if you are using on your eyes. Since I am in the pale category, Mould is a pigment can be a little too dark if I am not careful. I currently like to put it in my outer V when using Delirium as an all over eye color. Delirium makes a wonderful blusher as well and I have had no problems with it lasting or staying in place. Hollow might be a wonderful eye color as well as a wonderful cream contour color for girls with pale skin but for my skin tone it was too yellowish, so I ended up not being able to make this shade work. The Solstice, golden liquid metal, color however is Far too yellow for my skin. I think it looks better mixed with Mould, it kills the warmth of Solstice and the darkness of Mould, to make it much more usable on my eyes. I would like to say I would repurchase some of these colours again, but I ended up returning them all. They weren't necessary in my routine, and I have other products I like more. Really, some like Hollow and Delirium are very versatile where as Mould wastn' as useful for me. Solstice liquid metal isn't the same formula as the cream pigments, but I would not repurchase this shade either. Cream pigments in U.S. currently rate at $26 for 8grams of product. Blush -Illamasqua - Cream - Rude

LadyKolie 12/6/2012 11:10:00 AM

For Reference my skin is NC/NW 07-10 or Nars Sheer Glow Mont Blanc or illamasqua 3.5. I have Acne prone, extremely sensitive, combination, oily skin. I have a lot of topical and internal allergies/ intolerances. (wheat, soy, msg (yes it is in some makeup), beeswax, bismuth oxychloride) Highlight/quick REVIEW this product: Versatile (eyes, lips, cheeks, anywhere, heavy or light application) Can be long wearing when set with a powder Emollient, smooth, and creamy Wonderful pigmentation Easy Application A little goes a long way (on pale skin) Expensive Crap packaging (though interesting to look at because of shape) Detailed REVIEW: This product does not break me out, thankfully, and I have worn it many times since I purchased it last month. I recently decided I wanted to try a cream blusher for the first time. I was on an illamasqua product hunt because I really wanted to try the brand out. This blush in Rude I purchased from Sephora at $26 for 0.14oz of product. Because I am on the Pale end, a little goes a long way. I gently dab my brush in the product and stipple on both cheeks, blending one side and then the other back and forth until I get even coverage. I choose the brush because I felt I couldn't not control the product as well with my fingers (a common problem for me with any cream product). Being a cream product, it is emollient, and I think it has a lovely texture. This is particularly easy to spread, not too dry not too emollient. I haven't had any issues with it transferring (though I do not rub my face on things or people) I have not been setting my face with a powder, do to it being a very dry fall where I am living. We shall see how the product acts once summer arrives again. I have had no problems, so far, with this product lasting all day or staying where I put it. Nor have I had any issues with it oxidizing or becoming darker or brighter or anything else. The color is a wonderful peach pink, and with a light hand looks absolutely natural. I quite enjoy this blush and I wear it quite often. This product will last me quite some time because of how pigmented it is and how little that means I have to use on my pale skin. I am unsure I would purchase this again, Though the product is wonderful, the packaging is horrible and the price seems steep. It will take me quite a while to finish this container so I feel it is worth the money for this single purchase. I also want to mention the packaging, I love black, and I like the odder shapes of illamasqua's products, and though I would like to complain about how light the packaging is, I think it is useful for travel, it keeps your bag from being too heavy if you are someone who applies makeup on the go, or travels a lot with your cosmetics. Because it is so light it feels like it maybe flimsy, however, I haven't had any problems with the packaging actually being flimsy, but it doesn't seal closed and I feel like this product may dry out quickly. It has a lip for easy opening and closing (unlike the cream pigments that do not have a grip or lip of any kind to aid in opening, and it irritates me to no end).

Primer/ Corrector -Unlisted Brand - Monistat - Chafing Relief Powder-Gel
rated 5 of 5
LadyKolie 12/3/2012 9:34:00 AM

I have extremely acne prone and sensitive skin. I finally have acne under control and I am break out free. I, thankfully, have no reaction to the ingredients in this product. I have been using it for about a year. I use this as a make up primer and it has cause me Zero issues in my skin. It's ingredient are the same as smashbox photo finish primer, however you get more product in this tube and for a 5th of the price of smashbox. This helps my makeup apply smoothly and it helps it from creasing in my smile lines around my mouth and eyes throughout the day (something I used to have a real problem with until I discovered primers). It also increases the wear time of my foundation. I use about the amount of a pea for my whole face. There are more expensive primers out there, only a handful might work as well or better for your skin specifically. However, I think This is plenty of bang for your buck. It is also great if you are looking for a primer without sunscreen. For example, I tried Hourglass Veil Mineral Primer SPF 15 and it was $52 dollars for an ounce. It was nice, but I didn't find a difference between that and this for $6 at target for 1.5 ounces. The ingredients are a little different between these two items however I felt my skin reacted the same to both of them. (though I am curious about hourglass n28 because it has a long list of very good oils for the skin in it but I have a facial lotion that contains the same ingredients so why spend more?) ::Quick important note about this product and about primers:: dimethicone is a silicone product. It isn't as heavy but some people are, in fact, allergic to this ingredient (causing a rash or breakout). This is a main ingredient in most primers. Dimethicone is considered good for sensitive skin, unless you are allergic too it. If you break out from normal primers, please look at the ingredients and then look at the ingredients to this one. There are some all natural primers out there, some make from silk that might work for you. Beware of ones made from silica because Silica is the name given to a group of minerals composed of silicon and oxygen. So if you have a reaction to silicon and dimethicone you may have a reaction to silica as well.

Polishes -Unlisted Brand - Hello Kitty Minty

LadyKolie 11/25/2012 10:11:00 PM

Okay the packaging is super cute. The glass shaped into hello kitty face, Meep! Adorable. Now for the Formula, it's lovely. The price is currently $10 for 0.304 ounces, it isn't bad. Brush is normal. I really enjoy Minty, it's a lovely color. I don't usually reach for pastels but this one was irresistible.

Okay the packaging is super cute. the glass shaped into hello kitty face, Meep! Adorable. Now for the Formula, it's lovely. The price is currently $10 for 0.304 ounces, it isn't bad. The color is a very cute opaque pale pink. I just don't wear pink. I couldn't help but try out this color, but I think minty fits me better in the line than bubble gum. That's the only reason I would buy again.

Polishes -Illamasqua - Baptiste

LadyKolie 11/25/2012 10:01:00 PM

I Just picked up this color, I was interested in it for a while. I have never been big into shimmery nail polishes, but I had recently found my eyes caught on this color. I know there are other duplicates of it in other brands, like Nars, and Mac, but for some reason the shimmer always seemed much more pronounced in those than this one. I Love a deep purple, an aubergine. I find the shimmer to be interesting contrast of pink/purple to the deepness of the base. Very lovely and eye catching. I am wearing this nail polish right now with a contrasting matte nail to make it pop even more in my opinion. I also like that this polish goes fantastic with my skin tone, doesn't bring out the red in my hands (gah that drives me nuts) The packaging is nice, I like square (rectangular) packaging more than other rounded containers. I don't know why, easier storage maybe? Not bad in price currently $14 for a 0.5 ounce. I have seen worse, I am looking at you Dior polishes... 0.33 ounces for $24 >.>

Polishes -Christian Dior - Purple Revolution Nail Polish
rated 5 of 5
LadyKolie 11/25/2012 9:42:00 PM

I enjoy not only the Formula of Christian Dior Polishes for it's lasting manicure, but I enjoy the colors of this line and very classy packaging of the nail polish. Not to mention the very wonderful application brush that makes these absolutely fantastic to apply. This color would probably appeal to those who like black. It is purple, and you can see that in one layer, but to create an even coat of paint you have to apply two layers and once the second layer is applied this nail varnish looks rather black. When the light hits it though you can see the deepness of purple hidden in this hue. I must say I enjoy this color very much. I currently happen to be in love with a matte top coat so I threw this on my most recent manicure of this polish. Matted down it is much harder to see the purple that would normally appear when the light hits it, so I wouldn't suggest matting this color down if you want to actually enjoy the deep purple hue hidden in this polish.

Top/Base Coats -Sephora - matte top coat
rated 5 of 5
LadyKolie 11/25/2012 9:30:00 PM

This is a review on Sephora's Matte top coat. This is the only matte top coat I have tried, so I don't know what to compare it too. I did a manicure about two weeks ago using Orly Bonder rubberized base coat, Doir Gris Montaigne, and this as a top coat. I have never, I stress never had my nail polishes last more than a couple of days, I use my hands a lot and I am not gentle about it. I have had Dior last up to Three days using a different top coat. This time it lasted five before a single chip appeared. I really wasn't expecting the lasting power of my nail polish to increase like that. I will say that for a matte coat, I have to apply it thicker that I would a regular top coat to get the mattifying effect to be even on all nails. The first time I applied this I put what I thought was a bit too much on thh first nail and a little less on the rest. When they dried, you could see that the first nail was significantly matter than the other nails. For some reason applying a second coat didn't make the nails more matte. I have just finished a second manicure with this, same base coat as before, Doir in Purple Revolution, then This matte top coat. It has gone much smoother and more even this second time. I really truly enjoy the matte look of a nail polish much much more than the glossed. But also, for fun, the contrast of the two, putting on a matte top coat and then adding a gloss as an accent on one nail. It's interesting. I hope this isn't a passing fad, because I love matte nail polish on my hands.
