Loose Powders -Coastal Scents - Silica Spheres Powder
ActorMom 11/15/2008 9:55:00 PM
hate to do this, but this product gave me horrible cystic acne. i have a problem with silicone products and was hoping that because powder doesn't really sink into your skin that I would be ok with this. I was very wrong. Using it for just a few days brought on nearly seven deep, red, painful pimples. For those of you hoping you can still use this even though you have issues with silicone in cosmetics, I am sorry to report that you might want to look else where.

Treatments -Boots - No7 Restore & Renew Beauty Serum
ActorMom 12/30/2007 10:53:00 AM
This was one of the main things I wanted for Christmas. I had heard great things about the product. I had results right away, within 24 hours. The first night I used it and thought that it didn't seem like much. A lot of serums have that powdery silicon feel but this didn't. It pretty much melted into my skin and there wasn't a residue or coating on my skin. When I woke up my skin was really even. The blue/red around my nose from broken capillaries was more even. The next day my cheeks were more even in tone. I used it morning and night. After cleansing and before moisturizer. Now I am seeing the blackheads on my chin literally vanish. Overall my bare naked skin seems smoother and calmer. We will see what it does to my forehead wrinkles with time. But for this type of result this fast I am very pleased.

Masks -Queen Helene - Mint Julep Masque
ActorMom 9/4/2007 11:16:00 AM
That is it, I can't use this stuff as an all over mask. It breaks me out. I used it last night and now have a pimpled forehead, something I haven't had since I was 15. If I have something underground festering I can put this on to dry it out but other than that I am never putting this all over my face again.

Highlighters -Smashbox - Soft Lights - Smashing Glow
ActorMom 8/19/2007 1:45:00 PM
I am very fair and really haven't found my perfect bronzer yet. Most look too much like bronzer as opposed to glow which is what I am after. This was part of the Costco set from this past summer. I love Smashbox, it is one of my top brands and this product really cements that for me. Typically i'd expect a Soft Lights to have some sheen to it, but I find this to be very matte and soft. I can buff and buff it up to a slight sheen but it never gives me shimmerbrick face, which I hate. Being so fair, I use this as others would a bronzer and it really just carves out my cheeks beautifully. The peach shade looks a little scary on the brush but really just illuminates my face so subtlety. I'd even use this on darker skins to get that under the skin color...it's just beautiful.

Ok, I only paid .90 cents so I can't be too frustrated with this thing but seriously it's like a brick! I get no color from it. I scrapped the first layer off hoping for something but get nothing! Pretty pink color did show up on my cotton pad but not my face.........ugh!

Sunscreen -Philosophy - shelter tinted broad spectrum spf 30
ActorMom 8/3/2007 6:32:00 AM
I think the post below is wonderful! She covered all the important stuff and I just have a few quick things to add....... This is moisturizing enough to use as your AM moisturizer. I've had issues with my SPF and regular moisturizer not absorbing or feeling heavy together. The biggest issue with other products was that the SPF would 'heat' my face, I'd be out and my face would flush and get really warm. I haven't had any thing like that with this. I was starting to fall off the Philosophy bandwagon but this got me right back up. I truly adore this product, I like that I am protected from the sun, moisturized and have some color. I am super pale and when I first put it on I always worry it won't settle to my skin but each and every time it just blends away and has enough pigment to calm some of cheek redness. I love this this stuff. I see it replacing my HIAJ during the day.......... And also this is now a new product than the older Shelter than came in the small bottle this is in an upright squeeze tube you get more product for the same price. I need SPF and could never justify the price for the amount that you'd get in the old style packaging but since the tube is out and I love it so much I think it is a wonderful value.

Makeup Brushes -Pout - Powder brush
ActorMom 6/30/2007 4:38:00 PM
I just picked this up today. It is gorgeous. I really do not know if I will/can bring myself to use it. The price is just ridiculous, 42.00 for a powder brush? Who? What? Why? That aside, I bought it for 75% off. I may even go get more. This is the softest brush I've ever come across and I already have plenty. Ask my husband, the penny pincher stood there while I browsed asking if I really ***needed*** another powder brush. Yes, you ass, I need one **this** soft and so do you! Edited: This is the most amazing brush I've ever touched. Everything it touches my face, I am amazed. I can't get over this thing. It feels more like wind than a brush! I lOVE IT!

Pressed Powders -MAC - Mineralize Skinfinish Natural - Light
ActorMom 4/5/2007 8:36:00 AM
I was really intrigued by this product when it was first released but avoided purchasing it because of the LE status it initially had. When it was made perm. I gave it a try. The girls on the board had mixed feelings. Some were using it as a foundation and others were using it as a finishing powder. I was looking for a foundation and thought what the heck, at 20 bucks..which is the least amount I've spent on a foundation in a few years I should just cave. I apply it with my T&T powder brush, the synthetic fiber bristles seem to grab more powder pigment than natural bristle and use it like a kabuki. I get fairly decent coverage. I use a TM under it to build it up a bit. This doesn't get powdery like many other powder foundations I've tried. I've so used it as a finishing powder, either way I like it alot. It gives me a really diffused finish that looks really really soft. I've even applied it wet, any way I work it I can't stop loving it!

Powder -Jane - Be Pure Mineral Makeup
ActorMom 1/17/2007 10:54:00 AM
I found this at a store last week but was unsure about the color choice, they offer a Colorless but it seemed a bit dark for me. I held out and when I was on my way to the grocery store this AM, I popped into an Eckerd on the way. I was really surprised that they had it. I settled on the Fair shade. I am very much attached to my Philosophy Supernatural. At $35.00 a jar it isn't always easy to justify it. I bought this just to test the waters and see what else is out there. The jars are very similar between the two. The Jane jar feels much cheaper and $$$ wise it is. The puff feels a bit rough but not scratchy, only like it hasn't been broken in yet. I then took off the puffs to compare the two and found an additional latex sponge underneath the puff on Jane. This was the main difference I found between the jars. The mechanics are different. The Philosophy has five tiny holes that let the powder filter into the puff, the Jane only has 3 which is why it took me literally 10 mins to prime the darn thing. Now onto the powder inside the jars...The Jane Fair is much much much lighter than the Supernatural Natural. That doesn't make it better because the Supernatural sort of adapts to your skin color. The Jane doesn't feel as creamy as the Supernatural. Jane really gave a good amount of coverage while still looking clean. I am not sure if I prefer it over the Supernatural but for right now it is a good alternative and a backup.

Tinted Moisturizer -Jane - nearly foundation SPF 30
ActorMom 1/13/2007 12:31:00 PM
The lightest shade is too dark for me, I do not find it to moisturize at all. I still had to use my regular moisturizer underneath of it. Horrible. But it does have a nice matte finish.

Blush -Philosophy - The Supernatural Airbrushed Blush in Cool
ActorMom 10/9/2006 12:13:00 PM
I can't believe I am about to ruin the 100% feedback of this blush. I've really tried to love this, I just can't. I contacted iDarling before I bought it and was sure after I talked to her I would really enjoy it. I am the palest of the pale and I can't get this to show up on my face. Swatched on my hand it is pink with a goldish overlay but on my face it is a no color blush. I get better pay off if I really conceal out my natural pink cheeks with stick foundation then my Philosophy foundation but that is too much work for this poorly pigmented blush.

Makeup Brushes -Philosophy - The Supernatural Brush
ActorMom 9/12/2006 8:25:00 AM
Ok. I need to write a review for this but really haven't a clue what to write about. I bought this brush because I think I need everything that Philosophy makes. When I saw that they were offering a new brush I became obessed and got it right away. Normally, I'd wait until someone else tried it, I hate purchasing something first. I don't like being a genuia pig. Anyhow, alot of people seem to think it looks like a small, more dense version of the MAC 187, WRONG!!! These bristles are synthetic like the Tony and Tina brushes and Urban Decay that is why they are two toned. The bristles are all the same length. The brush itself is very short. Somewhere between 6 and 8 inches and the bristles are about an inch long. Philosophy's website said you could use it for mineral foundation, liquid foundations, cream blush....I tried all the methods. I didn't have much luck with any of them. Using it with mineral foundation seemed to be the most logical choice. It is dense and applies a concentrated about of foundation to one spot so if you have really rosy cheeks you like to cover this brush helps with that. If you apply too much foundation to an area this will buff it away. I really liked this brush with my Pure Luxe color correctors. When using the brush with cream blushes I got a brightly colored dot right where I applied it and had to scrub it off with the brush. This is not replacing anyones 187 or foundation brush or fingers for a finer method of putting on cream blushes. I can't bear to part with it so I will keep it and hope to hear that someone has mastered the learning curve. I have a pic of this brush in my profile, it is a bit dark but it is next to the Flirt skunk brush for a comparision. I will try and take a better photo soon.

Lip Gloss -Philosophy - Neutral Supernatural Lipgloss
ActorMom 7/14/2006 10:40:00 AM
Of all the Philosophy Supernatural Liplosses this is my least favorite. It is the most highly pigmented of them all and too much...not shine, sheen or ....I don't know how to say it...more metallic. None of the other colors have a metallic quality them but this really does. Very bronze with a bit of berry and lots of metallic. To make this work with my nude bronze face I have to apply lightly and pat the metallic away with my finger. Not a fave but does a nice job moisturizing and I love the scent.

Lip Gloss -Philosophy - The Supernatural Lipgloss in Soft Peach
ActorMom 7/14/2006 10:35:00 AM
Over the past few months Philosophy has become my passion. I can't belive I adore one line so much. I am not a makeup collector but I have found that I have had to have all of the Philosophy Supernatural Lipglosses. They are amazing quality. The vanilla mint scent is nice. It is refreshing and give a tiny pick me up to the rest of your senses. For my the soft peach is just as wonderful as the others. Where I have found each l/g to have it's own personality this one is the most perfect explanation of that. Soft Peach is a beautiful milky looking peach in the tube. Swatched on the hand it is a sheer almost baby peach with just a hint of pink to it, barely though. On my lips which are pretty pigmented most days it barely shows up. It does how ever polish my lips, define them and soften their look. It seems to smooth away lines because it is sooo moisturizing. In the end my lips look like I've been kissing and they are still moist. I don't get a big color payoff but that isn't the point of the Supernatural products. They are simply to enhance what you have and this lipgloss does the job, perfectly.

Concealers -Pure Luxe Cosmetics - Color Corrector Blue
ActorMom 6/6/2006 9:32:00 AM
I have been dying to try the color correctors for ages now. I caved and ordered some samples about a month ago. I picked out the Blue for my undereye circles. I must not be using this right because it looked like I had taken a transparent blue shadow and put it under my eyes. I then applied the rest of my mineral foundation and could still see my circles plus the blue. I didn't have time to remove it all so I left it be, a few hours later I noticed my circles looked diffused but not gone which isn't that bad. Anything helps, this just didn't do what I had expected it to do.
