General description of this product:
This is an eyeshadow primer in a blue tube. It retails for $17 for 0.35 oz, so it's cost is $48.57 per ounce. The ingredients include:
Isododecane,Talc, Cyclopentasiloxane, Disteardimonium Hectorite, Trimethylsiloxysilicate, Glyceryl Triethylhexanoate, Polyethylene, Trihydroxystearin, Sorbitan Sesquioleate, Isopropyl Lanolate, VP/Eicosene Copolymer, Propylene Carbonate, Dimethicone, PEG-40 Stearate, Phenoxyethanol, Tocopherol. (+/-): Mica, Bismuth Oxychloride (CI 77163), Titanium Dioxide (CI 77891), Iron Oxides (CI 77491, CI 77492, CI 77499). It is a squeeze tube.

By contrast, Urban Decay primer potion costs $16 for a 0.34 oz genie bottle, at a total cost of $47.06, but this is on the assumption that you could actually *reach* all the product in an UDPP bottle, which you can't do without removing the stopper, and finally performing a near-surgical procedure to slice it in two. I personally find it ridiculous to have to saw a product in two to get all of it out. I am a girl who likes makeup, not a surgeon, not a magician. By contrast, the ingredients in primer potion are listed as:
Ingredients:
Isododecane, Talc, Cyclopentasiloxane, Disteardimonium Hectorite, Trihydroxystearin, Triethylhexanoin, Isopropyl Lanolate, Sorbitan Sesquioleate, VP/Eicosene Copolymer, Dimethicone, PEG-40 Stearate, Propylene Carbonate, Phenoxyethanol, Cera Alba (Beeswax), Trimethylsiloxysilicate, Propylparaben, Methylparaben, Ethylparaben, Butylparaben, Methicone, Isobutylparaben

May Contain:
Mica, CI 77891 (Titanium Dioxide), CI 77491, CI 77492, CI 77499 (Iron Oxides), CI 77163 (Bismuth Oxychloride)
As you can see, many ingredients in these two products are the same. That said, there are definite differences in these products.

Other primers I have tried:
I also have tried and did not like the following eye primers- Mary Kay, Paula Dorf, Revlon, the new SH natural one, Pure Luxe, and one from Loreal called decrease, IIRC. I have also tried a European one in a tiny jar (seems like it was called artec or similar) that I did like. For a long time, UDPP remained my HG primer, but I did have complaints. Although I've never had e/s smudge or disappear with that primer, I didn't like the "draggy" feel it created when I applied shadow on top of it. I preferred the smoother feel of MAC paintpots, but wished I had something without color.

Description of my skin:
I am a PPP with really pale (NC10-15) skin. My skin is dry, 35-year old skin.

Application and results:
I've always disliked UDPP's "grabbiness" and how hard it is to blend with this primer, but it never lets me down in terms of how long e/s lasts when using it. I think this is because my skin is already dry to start with. UDPP applies with a spongy doe foot applicator, which I don't like, because I always wonder if I'm asking for an eye infection by repeatedly dipping a brush on my eyelid, then back into the genie bottle. Kind of gross, really. It's never happened, but still.....

With Shadow Insurance, I much prefer the application. I use a tiny amount, about the size of a pin head (the ones with the colorful tops) and it's perfect. I wait a minute, then apply shadows. I can easily blend them, but once I am done, it's set!!! No smudging whatsoever. The first few times I used it, I used way too much, and it didn't work as well, so be careful to avoid my mistakes, lol. Once, I left my eyemakeup on overnight just to see what would happen (I know, gross). It lasted overnight!!

Conclusions: This is my new HG. I will use up the remainder of my UDPP, but will not repurchase. That said, I do not think this would be a good option for someone with very oily lids or with severe creasing problems. But if you have dry or normal to dry skin, you may find that this really meets your needs better!

Age: 18 & Under   Skin: Combination, Olive   Hair: Brunette   Eyes: Green

Let me start off by saying that I have oily lids, so shadows usually crease on me or fade by the time I've stepped out the front door. I'd tried UDPP & I thought it was the most crappest thing ever - stupid bottle, didn't allow me to blend my shadows easily over it, formula irritated my eyes & faded my shadow colour to some extent. Then along came Shadow Insurance!

Firstly, the bottle is a lot more sanitary than UDPP's. I don't know who designed that stupid genie bottle, but I shouldn't have to resort to cutting open one of my makeup products that I spent nearly £10 on. Shadow Insurance comes in a bright blue tube (very pretty) & the texture of it is creamy. You only need a very small amount on your lids. Make sure you let it dry for a few seconds too.

It allows me to blend my shadows like a dream. No more harsh lines like with the UDPP...& it felt a lot more moisturising on my lids too, so no irritation. Now for the most important part: how long did my shadows last for? I went to visit my grandmother in Nigeria (the hottest, most humid place on earth, I swear) & my shadows lasted the whole day, no exaggeration. There was NO creasing whatsoever. Keep in mind that I have oily lids & the environment I was in was hot & humid all throughout the day and all throughout the night, about 38 degrees celcius (100.4 fahrenheit).

Also, very little colour fade! It was only after about 8 hours that I noticed some slight fading on my lids, and even then, it wasn't noticeable.

I'd definately repurchase this. UDPP is overrated. Shadow Insurance is the way to go from now on!

It seems as though the makeup-wearing population is torn between this product and Urban Decay's Primer Potion. I decided I'd have to try it myself to see if it would be just as good as UDPP, which I've been using for about a year. Packaging quality/usefulness aside, yes, Too Faced lets you blend your shadows a little better. If you had initially tried a primer because your eyeshadows crease/fade/melt within a few hours due to oily skin conditions (like me), Too Faced will not be the miracle you're looking for, unfortunately. I have heavily creased eyelids, and within four hours of application using Too Faced and a high-quality eyeshadow, all of it had migrated into the creases on my eyelids. Urban Decay's Primer Potion still makes my eyeshadow stay on for a nine hour work day. My conclusions about Too Faced Shadow Insurance are:

a) It does help you eyeshadows blend easier
b) It is worth looking into if you have normal to dry skin
c) If your eyelids crease or you have oily skin, don't bother

People seem to compare TFSI to UDPP so I will too. Here it is.
TFSI:
-Creamier texture. Feels nice to apply.
-Shadows glide on more easily. Better shadows blendability.
-Your eye lid must be really clean or TFSI won't work so well. It can crease a little.
-Better, more practical packaging.

UDPP:
-Feels dry when applied.
-Zero blendability. Shadows can go on uneven if not careful.
-Never ever creases no matter what.
-It will make a dry white stain on lashes if applied too close. This is not easy to remove but can be covered with mascara.
-Ridiculous packaging. There's almost 25% of the product left in the tube though you think it's empty.

I had been using UDPP for awhile and I was happy with it, but I definitely wasn't happy with its inconvenient packaging. I knew it was time for a change. I thought that this would be pretty much the same as UDPP, but in a more convenient package. So I picked it up at Sephora, expecting it to be as good as my coveted UDPP.

But sadly, it wasn't. There were MANY differences.

As I was applying the shadow insurance, I noticed it's slightly creamier texture- a texture that seemed somewhat oily as well. It blended on the eye well, and seemed to melt into my skin.

UDPP would have my eyeshadow truly last ALL DAY on me- from when I applied it at 7 AM all the way to when I wiped off my makeup at 11 PM. But with TF shadow insurance, I find that after only about 5 hours, oil is seeping through onto my eyeshadow, and that it already had begun to fade. At the very end of the day, my eyeshadow is mostly faded.

I can't believe I thought this would be as good as UDPP, but I was wrong. UDPP puts shadow insurance to shame. Now, my shadow insurance is up for swaps.

UPDATE: I previously rated this three out of five. Now, I'm downgrading it to two out of five. This stuff is a JOKE. With UDPP, I used to be able to take a 15-minute nap halfway through the day and still have my eye makeup looking fresh. But today I took a nap and when I woke up, my eyeshadow was COMPLETELY gone, the eyeliner was really smudged. I hate this stuff.

SECOND UPDATE: I decided to give this one last chance. And when I squeezed the tube, a whole bunch of gross clear liquid came out- obviously this stuff SEPERATED on me. And it looked disgusting!

This is my new HG eyeshadow primer. I was on my third tube of UDPP when this came out. I tried them side by side and the TooFaced wins out. Both really held the shadows on but the UDPP had a little creasing to it. Barely, but there. So the TF wins! This stuff kept my shadow on all day with no creasing. I also notice the UDPP makes my lids a little crepey while the TF does not. And the TF packaging is so much better than the UDPP bottle. Love this stuff. Retails for $17. HG!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The TFSI feels eerily simillar to the Monistat chaffing relief gel (I heard that it works great as a primer so I tried it! :o) It held up for over 6 hours before the oil in my lids started seeping through, so for that I would purchase it again. I also believe that it really did enhance my eyeshadow colors. I just can't help but think that I probably could continue to use the Monistat for $7 bucks and save myself $10....

Have to add my two cents to this product. I was a loyal user of UDPP, but was always looking for the next best thing. When I was almost out of it, I read all the reviews on SI, and thought that I'd give it a try. I've been using SI for about 6 months, and was satisfied with it at first. I loved that it was way creamier than UDPP and that it seemed to melt onto my lids. I also liked the packaging much better than UDPP. IMO it just doesn't stand up to the quality of UDPP . I have very oily skin and that coupled with all the humidity we've had here in NY these last few days, all I've seen are creases on my lids. No matter the weather, my eyeshadow stayed put with UDPP. If I had any doubts before, this last week made my mind up. Going back to UDPP, and will not be purchasing this again.

I've been testing this against UDPP (one on each eye...!) and I don't think it's *quite* as good as UDPP for preventing colour fade, but it's still absolutely wonderful (and the difference is really minimal) - no creasing, excellent lasting power, and fabulous colour payoff on ALL my eyeshadows. And the far superior packaging of the Too Faced version means that this is the one I'll be repurchasing.
The primer is more liquid than UDPP which probably makes it easier to apply, but also means that it separates in the tube so you need to shake it up quite a bit before dispensing.

The finish of my e/s is so much better w/ TFSI vs. UDPP. UDPP tends to make things look too "dry" and makes e/s hard to blend, but the TFSI is much better at not making things appear dry (it looks the way e/s is supposed to look). The blendability of shadows w/ TFSI is soooo much better than UDPP. UDPP tends to make my eyelids feel tight, where TFSI does not. UDPP tends to emphasize lines in my eyes (At 28, I do not have a lot, but it seems to make some appear that I don't see without it).

I think if you are younger (teens, early 20s) and tend towards being oilier then maybe you should consider UDPP over TFSI. But if you are getting "older" (mid to late 20s, 30s and on up) then I would strongly urge you to get the TFSI over UDPP.

I have yet to use the TFSI in the middle of summer when I'm outside all day long, but it has been hot and I've done some yardwork w/ it on and nothing budged.

I will repurchase TFSI & will not repurchase UDPP again. TFSI has taken over as my HG eye primer.

well im gonna have to say boo on this one- dont get me wrong if UDPP didnt exist I would be satisfied with but its just not as good. Its more gentle ill give you that and some nights getting my shadow off with UD was tough, but with SI I just dont get the staying and intensity as UD. I could tell especially at the end of a 10 hour serving shift and there was hardly any trace of my shadow left. Like I said not terrible but deff had to hit sephora and buy another PP. I might go back and forth depending on the staying power I need that day!

I always used UDPP (Urban Decay Primer Potion) and after branching out to new eyeshadow brands I noticed it didn't blend as well. It would always leave harsh lines and I'd always have to pack on more shadows on to my brush just to blend it out. I also have oily lids so I always needed to use a secondary base like MAC Paint Pots just to keep my shadows from fading and creasing :( With Too Faced it makes blending heavenly!!! Plus the staying power is superb! Way better than UDPP! I did a before and after demonstration between UDPP and Too Faced, let's just say Too Faced passed with flying colors! :)

I am so impressed with this eyeshadow primer! I have very oily eyelids and didn't think anything could work as well as UDPP but TFSI is even better! Firstly, it comes in a tube rather than an annoyingly shaped and wand applicator and whereas UDPP has a tendency to dry out my eyelids, TFSI is more moisturising. Secondly, it is MUCH easier to blend eyeshadows using TFSI, I find it very difficult to blend when using UDPP as a base! Lastly, the lasting power of TFSI is amazing, I applied my eyeshadow at 7am this morning and it still looks perfect now after 9 hours, no creasing or fading! I love this product!

I purchased this eyeshadow primer b/c Urban Decay's was out of stock at Sephora. I have never used Urban Decay's before, but the SA at Sephora recommended this one as a good replacement. Well, she was right!!! I love this product and I will keep repurchasing it, although, you need so very little of this that one tube will last me forever. First of all, this product is, in my opinion, perfect regardless of whether you wear eyeshadow or not. Even though it's pale skin colour when it comes out of the tube, it goes on clear, or just perfectly slightly tinted so you get that rested no vein look of your eyes, but if you are tanned or use sefl tanners (like I do), it doesn't look chalky or white. I have tried this with my most intense smokey eye look as well as just liner and pencil, and it works regardless of the look! The eyeshadows, liners, highlighters, concealers - everything stays put in place and no creasing. I tend to have greasy eyelids and this mattifies them and keeps them "dry" all day. What I also like about this primer is the consistency when you put it on. Some primers tend to be too thick and pull your eyelids when you are putting them on, but not this one. It goes on very easy, has almost a "silicony" feel to it, yet turns into a perfect mat canvas. I honestly can't say enough good things about this primer, I even use it underneath my eyes occasionally, underneath my concealer, when I need to ensure that my concealer stays PUT and mascara or liner on my lower lids don't smudge or run. Definitely HG!

HG eyeshadow primer! Love this stuff to bits. I have oily lids so that made every single shadow that touched my eye crease. Not even MAC Paint Pots were durable enough to use as a base for me. Sine Urban Decay isn't available in Canada, I can't compare the two. The consistency is liquidy and beige. It need a couple second to dry and an even application because it is so easy to miss some spots due to it thin texture. Other than that, this baby is gold. Eyeshadows are still blendable on top of this and vibrant. This makes my eyeshadow last my 8 hr school day, in any type of weather. Def. repurchasing!

I have a new HG for eyes, and believe me, I don't say that lightly. My skin is quite oily and eyeshadow would always turn into a greasy, faded mess by mid-afternoon. I considered UDPP when I was in Sephora, but that bottle? Totally inefficient. A couple MUAers recommended Shadow Insurance, so I bought that instead.

Today's test run: Spread a teeny dab on each lid and waited for it to dry. Started in with eyeshadow. I was shocked to see how much better my base shade shows up! When I rubbed my eyes lightly, only a bit of shimmer (courtesy of the Stila I applied as a wash, no doubt) came off. None of the olive or brown I used on the lid and crease budged. As of 3:30, after a nap, my eyeshadow was still in place. No oilies on the lids. Even after a shower, some of my eye color is still in place! Not all of it, but there's still definitely color. Where I put it, not running all over. Wow. This was a short I-gotta-wash-my-hair shower, but still.

Shadow Insurance is now a must-have in my makeup box. Thanks for pointing this gem out to me, MUA!

I've used UDPP for about a year now and was very impressed with how that made my shadow stay on without creasing. I was never thrilled with the packaging of that product and decided to try shadow insurance. At first squirt, it came out of the tube very watery. I thought, what the heck...I'll just rub that on the lid and see what happens. It did the job nicely. I've used it once mind you, so I'm a newbie to this but believe it will easily replace the UDPP when I run out of my current tube and 2 backups. I believe I will use it sometimes jus to see how it holds up in the middle of summer when my lids are really oily.

UPDATE: After reading a couple of negative reviews for this wonderful product, had to put my two cents in in hopes that it would help. With "shadow insurance", you don't have to pile it on. A nice thin coat works best. Also, it's essential to wait until the product has thoroughly 'set" on the eyelid before applying your shadow. I usually put this on right before my face moisturizer and let both set for about four to five min. before applying foundation and eyeshadow. I hope those who didn't like this product will give it another chance, as when it's properly applied, I think it is HG, at least for me. I have previously used the UDPP, and it not only was hard to remove, made my eyelids itchy, and made them look more crinkley than they actually are. Very, very drying to the skin. (UDPP). Just my opinion, for what it's worth. If Shadow Insurance can stand up to the heat and humidity in FL without creasing, what more could you want?

I used to use UD primer potion, but it really irritated my lids, so I had to stop. This product if far superior on so many levels. Number one, the applicator is more sanitary, number two, nothing and I mean, NOTHING, has ever allowed me to wear eyeshadow an entire day (and evening) in hot, humid, muggy, weather without creasing, number three, it does not change the color of your eyeshadow, but it ENHANCES it, i.e. it makes it look more vibrant, and last but not least, my very sensitive eyes can tolerate it. Also, I remember when I wore UD primer potion, it was very difficult to remove, and TF Shadow Insurance is not.
I will never be without this product again and need look no further for a product that delivers what it promises. In my opinion, the best shadow primer on the market and very deserving of its name. I usually wear Smashbox eyeshadow, which have a lovely texture, but I've noticed since wearing this primer that these shadows go on even smoother, colors look more similar to what they do in the pot. I can't say enough good about this product. Kudos to whoever came up with this excellent formula.
UPDATE: I'm still amazed at this product. As one who has NEVER been able to find a shadow primer that lives up to its name, this is IT. Hotter than hades, muggy, today, and absolutely NOT ONE IOTA of a crease in my eyeshadow after wearing it all day and spending a good deal of time outdoors. Normally, my eyeshadow will just "melt" off of my eyes, and the crease will be very prominent. This beats UD potion to he** and back, at least for me. I hope Too Faced never discontinues or messes with the formula of this product. It's perfect as is, and there aren't too many things that you can say that about these days. GREAT PRODUCT. Will use it till I croak or am too old to see my eyes to apply shadow :>) .

Oh I wanted to like this. UDPP is the most perfect product ever, but I can't stand the packaging and I don't want to cut up that stupid genie tube in order to get most of the product out. But Shadow Insurance failed test after test miserably for me. I kept trying for weeks, because after comparing the ingredient list, it seemed so very similar to UDPP that I kept hoping it would perform close enough to work! But nope - not even close. It creased within a half-hour, while UDPP will last through the day for me, except in extreme conditions. In this case, similar ingredients do not equal similar performance at all. I'm back to Primer Potion, but I've still got my fingers crossed that Urban Decay will switch their packaging to a nice, simple, sanitary squeeze tube.
