**2nd UPDATE May 15,'05** this is still doing great for my sensitive, rosacea, combo skin. its cutting the oily spring skin i get after feb., and removes foundation too. it really shows it IS worth trying a product a 2nd time. WARNING: if your skin is dry-ish, this may strip your skin. normal and slightly oily MUAers will do better with this. Highly rec. for acne sufferers too, esp. if using Retinoids or Accutane.


*Dec. 'o5* worked great on my oily, sensitive skin during the extra humid summer. I am a convert now. If you're Rosacean, do not use the liquid version, but do try the bar.

***UPDATE Mar. 1, '05**** I retried the bar as i heard it was good for removing foundation, and found it does not irritate my skin 8 mos. after the first time i used it & wrote my forst review.

Just buy the Wash. This is not even worth trying. As an avid Purplse GCW fan, I tried this once just to see what it would do and I hated it. It left a film on my face, didn't clean nearly as well as the wash, and smelled bad on top of everything else. I kept trying it just to see if maybe I was having a bad day. After the fourth try, I just chucked the thing. $ down the drain.

This soap is PURE EVIL! I think Satan himself handmade this soap! Let me tell you why... for one thing it smells RANCID, like slightly floral urine. That was okay with me though, I could tolerate it, it didn't last long. The second reason- I washed with this for a couple of days and one morning I woke up with THREE cysts (I never get cysts) and TWENTY-FIVE other spots of various degrees (yes, I counted :oP). It was an absolute nightmare. Needless to say I've been hiding in the house crying. I hate this soap so much that I want to whip it at the wall. My skin is not sensitive at all, but something in this bar did not agree with me. I had such high hopes because it did such great things for so many other people. Looks like I'll be sticking to my Dove bar for sensitive skin!

This is just ok. It did dry my face out a little more than the pump wash, but not too bad. I will definately get the pump wash again because I wasn't too keen on the smell

I really wanted to like this product, but I couldn't. It smells funny and it makes my face extremely dry. I have an oily t-zone, and it my nose and forehead flakey. Maybe this would be better used in summer weather, but I'm not going to find out. I definitely won't repurchase.

Oh dear...sorry to rain on everyone's parade, but this stuff broke me out something awful and I'm still trying to recover! =( I'm not sure why it did that however.
After washing face, felt tight and shiny...I really wouldn't recommend this to anyone!

After using the liquid purpose cleanser, thought I'd give this a try. I don't like it. It smells funny, and makes my skin feel tighter. It's not irritating, but it just dries me out too much.

Good God, I have tried EVERYTHING, and it makes me a little miffed that after hundreds of dollars in dermatology appointments and prescriptions and all kinds of over the counter stuff, this is the bar that clears up my skin. It costs like, $3. I have very oily, acne-prone skin, but in the winter, it turns into oily, acne-prone AND flaky dry surface skin. After only a week, this bar has not only cleared most of the stubborn acne I've had for my entire life, but it also reduces my oiliness. My only problem with it is that it is a bit drying, I have to slap on moisturizer almost immediately after use. But who cares!!!! I have CLEAR SKIN, which is crazy. I've been on sooo many medications and stuff, and it's weird that a cleansing bar which is not made for acne purposes can clear up the little monstrosities that used to make up my face. Just try it, what have you got to lose? It's a fraction of what you would spend on other stuff.

BEST BEST CLEANSER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! i found out about this from my dermatologist, and after using this my skin has gotten so clear!!!!!!!!!!!! its gentle, yet leaves your face super clean and soft, i alternate between this and the alpha hydrox foaming cleanser and my skin looks the best it ever has--NOTE if you have acne prone skin like me, DO NOT use a harsh cleanser--use a gentle one, THEN acne medication, and your skin will clear up so fast!!

Hmmm, I don't know about this bar, its a bit drying for my combo skin and it made my skin feel too tight. Don't think I'd buy again, but maybe its just the winter drying my skin out? Who knows, I'll update after a few more uses.

This is extremly DRYING! The only thing "gentle" about this cleansing bar is the lather. But as soon as you start to rinse it off- YIKES! Don't use this for sensitve and/or dry skin at all. Mine skin is very dry and sensitve right now. I threw this bar away after one use.

I first bought this product from reading the reviews. I really dislike bar cleansers they always seem to cause redness and breakouts on my dry sensitive I mean REALLY sensitive skin. I hesitated to buy it but for $2 bucks you just cant beat it. I was so suprised how this cleans my face it sooooo gentle and soft. For the first time I dont feel any tightness or dryness even my blemishes on my cheek are going away. My pores look smaller than what they were. I am not great with products that contain fragrance. This does contain some but did not cause reddness on my cheek as usual. Overall, I am impressed this will be a staple for me. I got all excited with the soap I mean "cleansing bar" now I want to go and try out the purpose moisturizer next. :)

I really like this, it's kinda a staple for me. I have combanation skin with acne and redness around my affected areas and my nose. This cleaner doesn't really make my skin freak out and it calms it down a bit. It kinda makes it a bit dry. I think I figured out why this may cause me problems, I keep it right next to my sink and not in a case which can cause bacteria to spread all over it.EW! But it srill very good, and it's cheap enough I can replace it! I think I'll ret the liquid version next!

Ouch. I hated this bar. It reminded me of the gold colored Neutorgena bars. I have combo skin and this felt like I still had a film after wahing it off. My face immediately started to sting and feel tight after using it. Will not buy again.

Never thought I would use bar soap again, but I changed my mind after using this product. This soap makes my skin so soft and clean--it also keeps me from breaking out--my skin hasn't looked this clear in years! Plus it's really cheap. Love this stuff!

I bought this last week based on all the wonderful reviews here. I was skeptical, because I have never found a cleanser that worked well with my picky skin. I have found the HG!!!! I am 35 and my skin is oily and acne prone, but I am also starting to deal with fine lines. This keeps the oil at bay but does not dry out my skin. My face is absolutely radiant and I never thought I would say that phrase! My pores are sparkling clean, my pimples are GONE, and my face is baby soft. Absolutely unbelieveable.

I have comination skin, slightly oily on my nose and forehead that is extremely sensitive! I have tried numerous cleansers and usually end up throwing them away. Over the years I have wasted hundreds of bucks, which is why I am so happy that Purpose is only 3 bucks and works like nothing else!! I was so happy when I first used this and instantly the redness on my cheeks on chin were gone! I was beginning to think I had rosacea, but this cleanser is so gentle it took the redness away, keeps my breakouts at bay, and doesn't cause my skin to feel tight at all. I also recommend the Purpose oil free moisturizer. It makes your skin baby soft and your make-up just glide on. Highly recommended!! Try it now!

This is the only cleanser I will use. It lathers nicely, and leaves your skin feeling clean and fresh. You don't get that 'tight' feeling, and it leaves your skin soft. I have a tendency to break out, but this has really kept it under control. And at the fraction of the department store prices, this is worth it.

Love it. I purchased it on the advice of MUA reviews. My skin feels really clean but not overdried. I have a tendency to break out, even with so-called acne treatment products because they leave a residue/film. This soap doesn't. I recommend spending the extra dollar to get the larger soap then cutting it in half. That way you get a new clean piece with the first is gone.
