I used to wear red lipstick almost every day and i had always wanted to buy russian red , because of all these people raving for it . The product itself is a very beautiful red . Unfortunately , this lipstick does not suit me ... i feel rather uncomfortable wearing it , although i have tried more intense colours . I think that its matte finish looks rather unflattering on me . I like more hydrating lipsticks better . For that reason , i wear it only as a base for another red lipstisk , because stays forever on the lips !
As for the price , i bought on sales for 11 euros - not too pricey for mac products .

Like every other blue based "red", this turned fuschia on me.

This could be the best red I could ever have. It's not so expensive like the others but still it does its best. It stays long for about 4-6 hours, without eating much. It's very pigmented that I can just apply on my lower lip and it would cover even my upper lip. I've been using it for a year now and there's still much left on the tube!

I have literally been using this lipstick on an almost daily basis for about 16 years. It is by far the best red lipstick I have found. I've tried others that are more creamy or glossy, but they bleed and don't stay on. This stuff is pretty amazing and I get compliments all the time and people asking what color red I am wearing. I am a loyal consumer of this for sure and have no plans of changing. Love it!

Russian red is my go to lippie.. It has long staying power but it does stain so you have to be careful when applying not to get it anywhere else besides your lips it's a bit drying but If you moisturize before Hand you should be fine I specially love it this time a year and its very versatile I think it'll look great on any skin tone

This lipstick is miraculous! It never ceases to amaze me that this looks good on most skin colors - warm, cool, or in between. When I had strawberry blonde hair, I was looking for a flattering red lipstick that would not make me look sickly or washed out. I went to the MAC counter and talked to one of the girls there. I inquired about Ruby Woo. She took one look at me and said that Russian Red would actually be a much better fit for my reddish hair. I tried it on and was astonished at how great it looked. I then tried on Ruby Woo, and noticed that it didn't do a thing for me with my strawberry blonde hair. The Ruby Woo is too blue based so it made my complexion look ruddy and sallow. But the Russian Red (even though it looks similar to Ruby Woo) was absolutely beautiful on me!

I can't think of a skin tone this red would not work on. I love it!

The downside is the formula. It's good but not great. a nice finish, but since it's slightly moisturizing, it tends to slip a bit. Nothing terrible, but keep a mirror handy for checks.

The story behind the colour is more interesting than the colour itself. In 1990, Madonna commissioned a red lipstick for her Truth or Dare tour, and throughout the shows, the film, any picture you see of her from that era, Russian Red is what she's wearing...in some cases, it's pretty much all she's wearing. This is, in fact, where MAC really started to take off: in just a few short years, you were hard-pressed to find a celebrity who wasn’t representing at least one product, and the colour shorthand for their foundation became a universal code for skin tones (me = somewhere between NW15 and NW20). All well and good, but it doesn’t change the fact that I just don’t care for their pivotal lipstick. I bought it when I was living in Massachusetts--in the limited edition Wonder Woman tube, no less--and tried really hard to be impressed, but I never could get there. The texture was no more or less off-putting than any other matte formula, and I didn't absolutely detest the colour; it just wasn’t the intense, dark, smile-brightening blue red the hype machine promised. But I have seen it look stellar on other people, even other palefolk like me, so I guess I either got a bad tube or it’s just not “my” red. Oh, well. I'd rate it a "Judge for Yourself" on a scale of "Run--Don't Walk--to the Counter" and "Keep Back 100ft."

Lovely true red color, that really suits my fair yellow-undertone complexion. I also love non-drying effect of this lipstick. The main cause I don't use lipsticks so much is that some (even HE) can be pretty drying and I don't feel comfortable with it on the lips, that's why in general I prefer glosses. But this is different. It stays on for a long time and with small touch ups you can make it stay on all through the day.

This was my first red lipstick and remains my favorite. It is drying, but if I wear chapstick to bed and exfoliate my lips before applying it isn't an issue. I find this to be a really good neutral red that seems like it would work on most skintones. I am a Mac NC20, I personally think this lipstick needs a lip liner. I use the Mac Lip liner in Brick for it. In general the staying power for this lipstick is fantastic. I've applied it at 9am and still had my red lip at 4pm, after eating lunch. I'd definitely recommend this lipstick if you are new to reds and don't feel like tip-toeing into it and would rather dive into the deep end.

I LOVE THIS LIPSTICK and I wasn't even a lipstick user until I bought this. It suits my skin tone perfectly and whitens my teeth instantly. It also lasts for ages when eating or drinking. When first applied it seems quite dry but it wasn't a problem for me, maybe use some kind of lip balm beforehand if really needed. For the £14 price tag I felt like there should be a bit more product which is one bad thing about most MAC lipsticks. Other than that I will be re-purchasing for many years to come :)

This is such a great lipstick. It's not as drying as the ever popular Ruby Woo, and the blue-toned red is flattering on my pale skin. It lasts all day without reapplication (just use a lipliner with it to be double sure) and the colour is totally head turning.
You can't beat a classic red lipstick, and this is one of the best.

This was a nice, universal blue-red that I wore to a gala one night. I found it bled a bit more than other red lipsticks I tried, and I got a couple of blackheads around my lipline from wearing it (that I haven't from other MAC lipsticks). So it went back to Macy's :(

I think MAC should change the color of this lipstick to "UNIVERSAL RED" because this is the perfect Red for any skin tone. I've put this lipstick on virtually all my friends (A range of skin tones from fair to dark) and I have yet to find a single person that hasn't loved their lips! For longer wear I would recommend using a lip liner to color in the entire lips and then put the lipstick over (MAC'S Cherry is the perfect complement). Highly recommended, especially for people who are looking for a classic red lip.

The perfect red. Described on the MAC website as an "intense blueish-red" and that is exactly what it is. For reference, I am an NW10 (winter) to NW25 in the summer. Its a fairly creamy formula in my opinion. Not too dry, and it lasts for quite a while.

I cannot rave about this lipstick enough. This was the first lipstick I ever bought from MAC and I think it's gorgeous, it's the perfect shade of red and it does not budge at ALL. My biggest fear of wearing a red lip was that it would bleed halfway through the night and look horrible but this doesn't do that at all. It stays put until you scrub it off and even then it has a nice stain. It is extremely pigmented so if you accidentally end up with some on the skin around your mouth (hello shaky hands!) it's a bit of a nightmare to get off. It's a matte red shade and it can leave your lips feeling quite dry if they're not moisturised but that's to be expected with a matte shade. Overall I cannot recommend this product enough, it retails for around £14 in the UK so not the greatest price but it's such a HG for me I'll definitely be repurchasing this again and again.

This is my first mac lipstick. I tried it in a mac store. The MUA put it on and i was immediately in love with the color. Love wearing it with a neatral eyelook. I get many compliments when i wear this. First i didn't like the dry feeling this lipsticks gave me. But now i'v gotten used to it. It stays on for hours. Normally i must re aply a lets say nyx lipstick for several time a day. But not with this beauty. Two times a day is enough.

I ordered mac's clear lipgloss. I'm curious how that is gonna turn out. I will definitely buy russian red again. | also think this will not be my last mac lipstick in any color.

I love this colour. I generally use MAC red because it is slightly cooler toned and so a little better for my skin. A lot of people write that this is blue toned, but the mac website has it down as coral red and I think under the right lights you can definitely see a hint of that. Being matte it is a tiny bit drying, but the wear is AMAZING. So I bought this to use when I am out for a long day and might not be able to touch up as often - it just lasts and lasts. It goes on well, is very pigmented and definitely well worth a try if you like bold colours. Thanks MAC!!
