I have used this for years and it suits me fine. I don't mind that it looks like it's from the 80's. I don't wear a lot of makeup and often mascara is the only thing I wear. The brownish black is perfect with my complexion and eye color. I can find it on sale, more often than not, for buy one get one free or half price.

This mascara is kinda amazing. It doesnt clump my lashes and goes on nicely. I only need one coat for pretty slightly curled lashes that last all day.

I dont normally wear brown mascara, but the Brownish black is just dark enough to make me happy, but not as harsh as normal blacks can be.

Its easy to travel with as well. It sits nicely in my travel case and its not to big like some of the curling mascaras tend to be

For the price, this mascara is fabulous. It does not make my eyelashes look chunky, but rather aids them to accentuate my eyes quite nicely. ;) I don't like the pink and green packaging though, but for a couple bucks a pop, who's complaining?

I love this mascara! It is super affordable and easy to find. I prefer the mascara in this shade (brown/black) because I am fair-skinned but black works just as well if I can't find it. The only problems I have with this product is the packaging. The sticker always falls off and the top of the container always seems to disappear (maybe it's just me). Also, like all other mascaras, you need to replace them often to keep them fresh and clean. That can be annoying. But if you notice, a lot of professional make-up artists use this mascara and its funny to see the $4 stuff we all love mixed in with their upscale products.

I have been using Great Lash mascara on and off for a looong time. (The only reason I didn't is because during my 20's I worked for a couple of cosmetics line) and I really liked Maybelline's Illegal Lengths but went back to Great Lash after it was discontinued. After reading the reviews I thought maybe I should change. Well I admit Great lash is a "wet mess" however after 1 month and buying 5 mascaras that are being tossed, I don't mind the extra drying time for my Great Lash. In the end I'd have rather spent the $50 on 10 months of Great Lash.

i thought i would give this mascara a chance. Glad i did, looks natural & stays wet, so you only have to pump once. I've read all the negitive feedback, you guys should give it a try again but, do this, wipe the wand really good with a kleenix this is really important. i tried this years ago after a makeup artist did it to take off excess. i love this stuff, would by again! I like Maybelline Great Lash for an everyday look. However, if you're looking for a dramatic look I think you're looking in the wrong place.

I've never had an issue with clumps, and I've always found this easy to remove.

Another thing I love is that it's very easy to layer with this mascara without it clumping on you.

20 years ago I started using Maybelline Great Lash mascara. Of course over the years, I have tried all kinds of other brands (and Maybellines newer versions) - fancy brushes, curved brushes, water proof, you name it! No matter what I always come back to this oldie but goodie. This product is proof that products do not have to be expensive to be wonderful! I no longer feel the need to waste money on the fancier varieties or brands- this works and it doesn't need any improvement. Great price, great product. Oh, and the brown/black is a really natural color!

I have used this mascara for many, many years and have always been satisfied with it. I only use it on the upper half of my lashes; it matches my lash color perfectly, and this way it does not clump or smudge. It's best to use a light hand in applying mascara, otherwise you look like you have spiders on your eyelids and it smudges under your eyes.

I'm 21, and I like my make-up light. I've just started using mascara. Great Lash was recommended to me by a friend. I've been wearing it for two weeks. It was super cheap - $3.50 at Wal-Mart. The color is nice. It seems to clump my lashes together a bit, though. But, with only two swipes, it completely covers my lashes and makes them look lots longer. Next time I buy, I'll probably try something different, not because I don't like this mascara, but because there might be something better out there. ~Emma

It's the famous pink and green tube that we all bought and wore in grade school. Is it the best mascara out there? No. But it definitely lengthens your lashes. I have sparse lashes and try for the fringey look, which I get from Mabelline Full N Soft (see separate review). Although I usually like more volume, Great Lash does create a set of long, dark lashes. It is a fairly natural look - they don't look like false eyelashes, they look like your own lashes but very long and flirty. I find that GL does hold a curl, and makes my eyes appear somewhat doe-like. And it's dirt cheap! But even with all these pluses, there are minuses. GL does have a tendency to smudge if you have oily eyelids or under eye area. GL takes a little longer to remove (I have to wash my eyes *at least* twice to remove traces of mascara), and if you wear it all day you will definitely have some flaking at the end of the day. Maybe these are not issues with the waterproof version, but I do not often wear wp mascara.

I tried this out because everyone raves about it, but there wasn't anything great about it at all. Mind you, my lashes are fine and are weighed down by anything non-waterproof so of course GL took out my curl, but it also flaked while I had it on and while I was trying to get it off, which in itself was a task. I hated the brush too, took too many swipes to get decent amount of product on. Never ever buy again, not even the waterproof one, though for different reasons (pls read review there). FYI, I much prefer Full 'n' Soft or Volum'Express (WP, of course).

Love. Awesome. Defines nicely, never clumps, rarely smudges or gives me the racoon eyes. Very favorite ever. And I've tried lots (l'oreal, cover girl, origins, lancome, clinique, almay, jane, I don't know...those are the ones I can think of off the top of my head...this is The Best).

honestly, i have used a lot of mascaras and i really dont know why people would want to fork over $20 at a dept. store counter for a name brand one when this drug store mascara is just as good. out of curiousity i'll still search out higher end brands to try to prove myself wrong, but this remains a trusty standby.

This is an excellent mascara. I cant believe its bad rep, especially considering those who don't like it have raved over mascaras that IMO don't hold a candle to GL. Guess everybody has a different opinion, though!

I do have a slightly oily eye area. this does not give me raccoon eyes, does not flake, smear, clump, or any of that stuff. It lengthens. It stays on all day. i only need 1 coat. It did not volumize/thicken my lashes, but I wasnt going for that look anyway. Just length, and it delivers! I think I like it a tad better than the waterproof!

UPDATE: NEVER DARE APPROACH IT IN THE d/s!!!!! DO NOT EVER BUY THIS GARBAGE!!! Its impossible to remove, comes of in flakes, dries your lashes, makes them fall out, AND the brush is crap! Don't waste 7 bucks, its not even worth $0.50! Use the money on a better mascara like CG Lash Exact or Maybeline Full n Soft, or donate it to charity! it would be put to much better use there.

Fairly good mascara for its price! Although you MUST get it in waterproof, becauase the washable version is prone to give you racoon eyes. Like any mascara, it will clump after 2 coats. Make sure you curl your lashes before the mascara, anad just put it on by swift strokes; try not to wiggle it too much. Would repurchase mainly because it will darken my lashes. Sadly, it does not do much to thicken or lenghthen, but heck! its a good basic mascara (IN WATERPROOF)

I kept reading in so many glam mags that "movie stars beauty secrets" include a cheap tube of ol' Great Lash....Okay, so I didn't remember it being that fab when I used it back in high school so I shelled out $3.99 and gave it a try....IT SUCKS!! Now I know not to believe everything I read....I doubt any model or movie star really uses this product. It was smudgy...hard to remove and did nothing to lenghten or thicken my lashes it was merely product glopped onto them. No, thanks. I will use my $3.99 for a Starbucks next time!

Great Lash fan club member! I know some people hate this product, but I first started using it when I was 12 (some years ago!!) and I keep coming back to it. I've used many other mascaras--drugstore and department, but I've not found anything better. The price is fab, too. Maybe the trick is in the application. I curl my lashes and then put the mascara on the tips first--several quick coats/swipes. Sometimes I do the whole lashes and sometimes I don't--it depends on how they look after I just do the tips. My eyelashes are naturally fairly long and decently thick--nothing fantastic though. This mascara makes them look long, dark and pretty. I don't have any problems with running or flaking, and, it comes off easily when I wash my face. The color is warmer than black and looks better on my warm, fair coloring.

I'm going to agree with the majority of the reviewers when I say that this isn't a miracle mascara. It DOES clump, if too much is applied, and I'm sure most of us have seen better packaging, but this product has one saving grace that keeps me using it: it is the only, the ONLY mascara I've tried that keeps my eyelashes curled. I generally curl my lashes *after* I apply mascara, and whereas no other mascara keeps them curled, Great Lash does. It's truly surprising and unusual that this turns out to be my HG mascara!
