This item works wonders for us cystic acne sufferers. It draws the cyst to the surface and effectively treats it. Within a week it's guaranteed to be gone. Not many products out there can fill those shoes because this specific type of acne is hard to treat without prescription medication. The dropper lid lets you control how much product comes out and I find it's best used with a Q-tip just like the drying lotion.

This helped some cystic acne I had on my back (it was red and deep). It took about a week for it to start working, using it every night. As for my face , it didnt help and found it a bit too harsh (I am much more sensitive on my face thou) I guess YMMV with this one!

I give this three lippies because it only works magic on certain types of blemishes. It works wonders on the type of blemishes that you can tell will be deep under the skin, and if you catch them very very early on (like before they even are visible). If a blemish is not cystic, I do not feel that it is effective at all. I believe that is what the MB Drying Lotion is for. It's expensive but will last a long time. Not a fan of the applicator at all, but I might be using it the wrong way. I'd buy again unless I found something else that works better. I just ordered Tamanu oil and will trial that to see if it yields better results.

I've always suffered from cystic acne, esp. during TOM, and whenever I feel a cystic acne brewing, I slather this on and it does a good job at keeping them at bay; doesn't make them disappear, but def. prevents it from growing into those gigantic, grotesque monsters. I believe it also shortens the time it takes to flatten and heal. The instructions say to apply every other night, but I didn't follow them as I become obsessive with ridding these awful bumps as soon as I get one. Saying that, I've never gotten any irritation from my overzealous applications (sometimes 3-4 times a day).

Overall, I like this product because it's effective and I would purchase it again, considering it's very affordable.
I felt a cystic pimple or a nodule on the tip of my nose coming on for a few days. I applied this under a dab of Drying Mask overnight. I repeated this two more nights and I don't apply it in the morning. The cyst or nodule isn't as tender and I can feel it disappearing. I've never had this happen when I've applied 5% benzoyl peroxide!
I know I skewed the test results (not very scientific, I know) by applying two products instead of just the Buffering Lotion. However, I didn't want to risk the cyst or nodule blowing up into "I'm going to become a hyperpigmented spot for the next two years" territory.
I should mention that my cysts/nodules pop up usually when I'm stressed and/or my diet/sleep is off and they pop up in the spring/summer. So I get them maybe 2-3 times a year. So what might work for me mightn't work for the person with more frequent acne problems.
You have to shake the bottle hard to get the white sediment thoroughly mixed with the clear solution. As a result, the bottle leaks a little. However, I appreciate the hygenic aspect of the squeeze bottle. I do have to apply the Buffering Lotion fairly quickly after dispensing it, as it slides off very easily from my fingertips.

The packaging of this product is not very good. It leaks and product gets wasted, eek! However, the product does its job. Works well on cystic acne and can make them come to a head A LOT faster or completely get rid of them overnight.

Got this in a kit w/ the Drying Lotion and Drying Cream. Drying Lotion works. Drying cream dries skin, not pimples. But this Buffering Lotion doesn't seem to do anything.

Does it work? Yes and no.
I started to feel a cystic acne form underneath my skin, so I quickly dabbed this on at night.
No, it didn't stop the cystic acne from forming even bigger, but it did substantially cut down the time of the break out.
I know that it's supposed to be formulated for just cystic acne, but I couldn't help and try it on smaller pimples.
I think it's a hit or miss.. sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't.
Application is kinda messy too!

Firstly the packaging seems fairly cheap and simple but by no means does this hinder the products effectiveness or ability to use in any way. If it stops the products from being overly expensive then I'm all for it. So far this seems to have helped quite a bit with the condition of my skin. Have only been using for just over a month but my monthly outbreak isn't anywhere near as bad as last month so looking positive.
Updated 6/5/11 - loving!
Been using this product for 5 months now and it's been a life changing product. I am almost too scared to review it as I don't want to jinx it but I felt that I couldn't keep this to myself. My skin had cleared amazingly. It's still not perfect but those sore cyst like spots are seemingly a thing of the past. I have had two attempt to come up and both times they have been painless and not formed fully so just gone down as quickly as they appeared over night. I must add that I use this product daily. I really think it works as a preventative rather than just waiting for a horrible outbreak first.
2nd Update 3rd Aug 2011 - HG Status
I am now on my 4th or so bottle and I can honestly say I have had 3 cysts since first trying this back in Jan. That is amazing as I used to have 3 on my face at any one time and every month used to bring with it a new heard of the buggers. I urge people to try this as a PREVENTATIVE rather that spot treatment. In my opinion it has almost made me cystic free using it in this way. Every evening I apply a small amount to a cleansed face and make sure all areas of my face are covered (or the areas usually affected by cysts). I do the same in the morning before makeup. I don't use loads and the bottle lasts me well over a month each time. The one time I decided to over use this, apply too much in one go or 3 times a day instead of two, I was left with a little dryness around the nose and my skin felt a little congested (no cysts just a few blackheads that looked less black) the solution is white so this may be why. Anyway I went back to applying sparingly with my fingers morning and night and it's working like magic. Please if you suffer like I did try this.
Updated 18th Aug 2011 - Iffy now!
So basically I have two horrible cysts and I think it's because I stupidly slept in my foundation and didn't put any lotion underneath. Either that or this has stopped working or it was a coincidence. This is the first month since xmas that it hasn't worked. Have tried to put the lotion on both the cycts loads to help shrink them. One is still small but hurts like hell and the other has made all the skin around it swollen and is very painful. Will update - hope this is a one off :( major come down!
Updated 27th Sept 2011 - not so great it seems!
Ok so for the last month this has seemed to just stop working dead. So unbelievably dissapointed as it really was immediately affective 8 months ago. I'd still rec to others as it obviously works, however the degree of this obviously varies from person to person. I have had a nasty hormonal outbreak recently and this hasn't helped. I'm hoping this is a blip and that this still goes someway to preventing cysts but quite honestly while I have two ugly ones healing I can feel another under the skin by my nose, I'm not feeling very positive. Fingers crossed this doesn't get big and heals under the skin before it gets huge and red and scars. I have recently discovered lacic acid peels which I am going to try for a few months. I will give Buffering Lotion a break and come back to it as my skin may just need some alternating between products. One thing to note - I don't regret using this at all. It gave me clear skin for 8 months without the use of harsh medication. still gets 5 stars from me for that alone.

I got this about a year ago when I first started battling with cystic acne. I believe this is the only treatment I've used that makes a difference in a cystic blemish. It's kind of hit or mess as to if it works every time, but it's worked enough for me to repurchase and rely on it. <3

i love love love this product so much! basically as soon as i can feel a pimple coming up, and apply it at night, it basically disappears the next morning!
but sometimes with some pimples i think its better to let it develop into an actual white head, before its popped (shouldnt i know but i think it disappears faster this way) and healed. because when i use this product, it stops it developing but doesnt flatten it, so i was left with these huge thick very painful red lumps for like nearly a month! so i think you need to try it and figure out what kinda pimples you have. even on one face you can have different types of pimples lol
only thing i dont like about it is the packaging. i just use my fingers to apply it so i guess its not that hygienic... although with a solution, practically a liquid, it cant really come in another packaging.....
another thing is the price. in australia its sold for nearly $50, which is about twice the retail price in US. not happy, but the bottle does last a long time, so i guess its still worth it, better than having pimples for sure.

The thing is I've tried a lot om MB products. This is my second attempt at his stuff. The thing I've noticed is with MB's instructions you pay a lot more notice to how to use the toner, and how to wash and whatever. Maybe it's the price. LOL. You don't wanna waste the product. My point is that you use everything carefully and spend more time at using them than with other lines of products, at least I do anyway. LOL. And it works - washing and cleaning and toning carefully works wonders because more bacteria and what not comes off.
I've always had awful skin - even since I first reached my teenage years. The last year though I've been using some sort of medicine lotion that's worked wonders. But these cystic breakouts isn't much helped by it, and when I switched my line of products to MB I had quite the breakout (more than I've had in six months' time). And I figured I'd send for the Buffering Lotion as well. And I've been using it for oh, about two days now, and while the breakout isn't completelt cleared away it's healed a lot faster and looks a lot better than it did before the Buffering Lotion.
I'd say the Buffering Lotion works. Not a miracle product but it helps a lot. And I mean A LOT. And if you combine it with MB's other products for acne prone skin it's an effective solution. For me anyway.

I wanted this product to work for me but...it couldn't touch my hormonal cystic acne. I took everyone's advice and left the liquid on a piece of tissue on the pimple/s but this did nothing but dry out the skin around the cyst. I hate cystic acne!

i don't know why it took me so long to review this product-- it's def HG status in my book! For some reason, I get recurring cystic acne at the same spot on both sides of my cheeks.. and whenever I feel it surfacing, I put this over the spot immediately. It takes a couple of days to shrink, and it does not completely make them disappear. it turns into a white head, which can easily be treated. with that being said, I use this product to avoid those huge, painful bumps that cause scarring. It really works! I'm currently on my 3rd bottle, and I can't live without it! I believe it's around $15-17, which is pretty inexpensive compared to cortisone shots at the dermatologist's office. The packaging isn't that great; I find that my product does leak quite a bit when I put it in my travel bag... but I can easily overlook that :)

I found that Mario Badescu's buffering lotion on under the surface acne (meaning NOT on whiteheads or blackheads, but those red, large, painful, inflamed pimples) works best. It helps bring the congestion towards the surface (usually turning it into a white head which you can extract or treat). It helps to heal those cystic types of pimples faster and helps reduce the pimple from scarring (a BIG plus in my book). It doesn't kill the pimple in a day, but it significantly reduces the life of the deep pimple.
It costs $17 for 1 oz. I think that this is expensive, but it works. I would repurchase it.

This one works, out of all the acne products I've tried. You just need to know the trick which is "when" and "how" to apply this.
When I feel like a pimple is about to start, I apply this with a very tiny cotton. I put a little buffering lotion to the cotton and gently press the cotton to my skin. The tiny cotton would just stick to my skin as it is wet from the buffering lotion. I add a little more buffering lotion directly to the cotton while it is on my skin. This way it can absorb into my skin and would not dry out fast as the cotton holds more moisture/lotion than just applying it directly into the skin. Then I go to sleep. I wake up the following morning and my pimple has shrunk and will not progress anymore into a big scary one. I also do this when a pimple has burst and the next day there are no open wound from the pimple.
The more the pimple in your skin absorbs the lotion, the quicker it will heal.

I have near perfect skin, except for this heinous mutant, reoccurring cystic zit that likes to form in the same spot on my chin. The kind you feel a'brewing and a'throbbing well before it rears its ugly headless head --- that sends you to the derm for an emergency shot of cortisone. Well, last time I felt that sucker a'brewing (it was going to be a whopper) it was a Saturday -- and I missed my window of opportunity at the derm. I knew my trusted Drying Lotion couldn't fight it and after reading the MUA reviews, headed to Ulta to get this. IT WORKED! IT WORKED! Now, the instructions say apply every other day. I did not heed them. Starting that Saturday, I applied this with a cotton pad about three times a day, then topped it off (when I was not in public) with Drying Lotion. By Sunday, it began to shrink. That Sunday, I continued with the same routine. By Monday, the mutant cyst was gone. Just a dry patch. Could I have avoided the dry patch? Who cares! It only lasted another day and was easily covered up. If you can relate to my story, I urge you to get this and the Drying Lotion (if you don't have it) NOW! A word about the bottle... this stuff pours out fast, I highly suggest a cotton pad or ball instead of using your finger. And it stings a little. Both really small prices to pay for complete cystic zit eradication. Go now!
