Really like this for summer -- lighter than navy blue, not electric or day-glo -- just a true bright blue. No shimmer, true creme finish, but bright enough to keep from appearing flat. Pretty fingers & pretty toes in a fun but unexpected summer shade (can't do pink).

This didnt apply as a royal blue on me (which is what I was looking for) It applied darker than the bottle color. Afterwards, the color seemed pretty flat. There was no wow factor to this polish.

I bought this polish because cobalt/royal blue is one of my favorite colors. I was a little disappointed to find that it applies a bit darker than it appears in the bottle. However the overall finish and clor are still pretty great. It wears wll I"m on day three with no chips. It's great to wear to a Cubs game bc it's almost cubby blue. :) Still on the hunt for that bright blue that I want though

I really like this colour and it hasn't really chipped at all! The only downside is that it takes forever to dry properly.

Love this blue creme polish! Beautiful application and colour, I always get compliments when I wear this polish. Only needed two coats for a perfect application and the wear is amazing. I get away with over four days without a single chip, just some slight tip wear. I am going to have to buy a backup soon, I am almost done my bottle!

The best navy cream ever! I love this and application is so easy. This polish flows like a dream without streaks. You dont have to be a professional to get awesome results with this. The finish is amazing.

Bought online for a little over 4 dollars.
Application is nice and smooth. Dating a Royal required two coats for me to get bottle color. So far, it's been pretty chip resistant- I'm on Day 3, and it still looks fresh.
The color is a gorgeous and vivid royal blue. It's probably darker than you think, but no one will mistake it for black. Despite the depth of the color, it is seriously vivid. Like getting punched in the eye with dark blue. It looks lovely on my pale skin (I have gold and pink undertones).
I am definitely picking up a back-up bottle.

I wanted to love Dating a Royal so much. I was so prepared for it. But now...I don't know... I was expecting something more neon, more vibrant, real electric blue. This is like electric blue in dust or in fog. On the other hand, it doesn't look like black like these dark polishes often do. The application was a bit runny and probably would have needed one extra coat - I wear two coats and it's okay, opaque and no streaking, but the colour would probably be bolder with three.

A Lovely "royal" blue it's a little sheer but that's okay, love the OPI quality in nailpolish, just awesome.

Did not like it on me; took 3 coats; Russian Navy beats this blue by far.

Love this colour! I I bought it because it matched my mums car, and it really does! It does need 3 coats but I don't see that as a problem as it dries fast and with a nice glossy finish. It suits my skin tones and I love it!!

Dating a Royal is a gorgeous royal blue creme polish. Application was great - OPI is obviously still working on the Big 3 Free formula, but this one is much better than previous collections. This is a 3 coat polish for me, as it's still streaky on 2 coats.
The colour is flattering on me (NC20) and wear was good (I only wear each polish for a day or two though). I did find that the polish, when dry, developed tiny white spots on some nails. It definitely wasn't air bubbles, and I found the same issue arose when using Greenwich Village from the same collection.

I was looking for a nice dark blue w/o shimmer polish and when I found this one I had to get it. I had put it away in my nail polish bag and forgot about it. However, a few days ago I was going to do a pedi and I grabbed this. Upon first application I fell for the color. I really like it because I thought that I couldn't pull it off and I can. I also like the brush it was real easy to apply. I put two coats of this and as each day goes by I like it even more. Even my hubby commented that he liked it and that it's a very summery color. I agree with him. I put that I wouldn't buy it again because I won't be putting this color often. But if I did I would definetly buy this again.

This is really a true blue creme which i really love. The bottle color was what attracted me to purchase it. And once applied, the bottle color was easily achieved. I especially loved the pro- wide brush this came with as it made application so easy! Would definitely repurchase when my bottle runs out :)

I wanted to love Dating a Royal. I wanted so much to fall in love with this color and have it be a summertime staple. No, like the marriage of Diana and Charles, it was not meant to be.
Too dark, too blue, too much for my warm skin. Not even as a pedicure color could I pull it off. :(
Still a great color, but not for me.

Dating a Royal is a royal blue w/some purple undertones cream finish polish. I really like this color & it is very flattering on my NW20 skin tone w/strong pink undertones. The texture of the polish is nice and smooth however I must admit that that consistency was a little runnier than I typically like. That seems to be a problem w/many of the new formula polishes in a lot of brands, not just OPI. The first coat applied sheer and somewhat streaky. The 2nd coat however applied w/o streaking and gave full coverage. You definitely need two coats for the desired look. The cream finish is lovely & very classic IMO. This comes packaged in the standard OPI nail polish bottle. This one has the Pro Wide Brush. I am uncertain how I like the PWB. In some of the bottles it seems easier to use and in others not so much. I am not really sure why that is though. I would definitely purchase this again should I ever run out. But, like so many OPI polishes the production life on this one is limited.

I passed this polish by a few times at my local trade secret but a few days ago I finally took the plunge and I just love it!!! First of all it wears like iron and after two days there really isn't even any tipwear. Maybe a little on my dominant hand but you have to look close to see it. I'm very hard on my hands so I usually get tipwear very quickly. Lately I haven't been wearing my polish long enough to get chips for I'm anxious to dip into all my untried stash! :) Buy anyway, this polish is fabulous and has a jelly look that I just love. One of my all time faves!

This is definitely a royal blue and not navy (i.e. it's not one of those black-blues) although it does look darker (leans towards navy) in dim lighting. That's the case with most nail polish though. This did apply a bit streaky with one coat, but two coats (of medium thickness, if you do thin coats you'll probably need three) was enough to even out the colour. With three coats (I always do three coats) it was completely opaque on me (can't comment on the opacity at two coats since I didn't examine my nails thoroughly at that point, but my tips weren't super visible or I would have noticed).
Overall the application was good (not outstanding, but certainly not bad) and I think the colour/finish (it's a creme) is fairly unique (most of the mid to darker blues I've seen tend to have shimmer/glitter). I experienced no premature chipping or atypical tipwear nor did it stain my nails (though I did use a basecoat).

A creamy blue. That's about it. I lurve blue np because it is dark enough to not "offend" while not being a tired black or vamp. I so miss OPI's Sahara Sapphire which was more metallic blue that I crave.
I'll take the recs to use Heartbreaker over it and see if I'll change my mind.
And a $1 increase on OPI? No one is that good.

I really wanted to love this color, but for some reason it didn't look great on me (I'm fair, cool toned). It didn't look terrible...just kinda blah. And like someone else mentioned, it took 3 coats to completely cover my nails and not look streaky. I never ever use 3 coats of np, so that bummed me out a little. I am going to hang on to it though and try layering it under other colors.
EDIT: Ok, I tried Pure Ice Heartbreaker over this, and it looked stunning!! Glad I kept DAR to experiment with!
