This is a lovely reddish pink plum color. It's not as vibrant as a straight up red, and not as daring. It is a little drying, though. Pigmentation is excellent, and it wears for a long time.

Well, of all lipsticks, plums are my favourite. I have "Plumful", too, so that's what I'm comparing this with.
I found "Captive" to be quite drying - if you want a perfectly matte plum, this is a better choice for you than lustre. But if matte is what you're going for, this can look quite pretty. Otherwise, you really need to wear it with a lip balm or gloss.
The colour itself is lovely: a rich berry with more burgandy undertones than rosey ones. It seems to me that this is a good choice if you are going for that autumnnal matte look and want to sport a slightly less daring version of a red or deep burgandy.
Overall, with other plummy choices out there, I don't know that I'd reach for this one again.

I was looking for a red. However i could not go all the way. I did not want something that was wearing me. Captive was a perfect blend of creamy red and plum for my complection.
Its the only "red" in my collection. For touch up and moisture i apply a red lipgloss cream from L'Oreal on top.

i was a bit dissapointed with this.. too dark, but that is my personal opinion, however it is really pretty if you just apply a little bit like a tint and blend over lips. i would use this method very often if it didnt make my lips so dry and cracked :( but pretty colour!

I got this on a whim for my back 2 mac containers, and wish I hadn't. It's not very flattering and reminds me of something an old lady would wear. MAC has many many way more exciting colors!

This color is on the plum/ burgundy side. I actually tried this at a MAC counter after choosing three other neutral shades. I was looking for a darker shade that didn't scream bright red. Yes it is slightly dark, but the color on the lips is rich and alluring. A very nice alternative to the reds. Keep eyerything else neutral. I'd wear this with a matte brown eyeshadow and natural peachy blush.

As everyone else has said this is a (gorgeous) berry color. Great for fall and winter. I was afraid it would be too dark on my NC20 skin, but its an amazing color. And contrary to what others have said I don't think its outdated at all. After getting it, to my surprise, my boyfriend liked it on me and he usually hates bright/dark/not natural looking lipsticks. Its a great color and worth trying out

Captive is a very beautiful plummy/ berry like color. It is like a soft red on my lips. It's a satin, so it is very moisturizing and very pigmented on my darkly pigmented lips. This color makes my whole face glow and imo says "look at my lips". It's not subtle at all.

I went to the MAC counter with my hubby for my B2M. I tried on a few lippies for him and he liked this one the best b/c (in his words) it made my blue eyes brighter. It took some getting used to b/c it's kind of dark on my lighter than nc/nw15 skin. I usually apply it with a lip brush lightly to give a pinky stain more than an opaque wash. When I do want more dramatic lips though, this is a lovely pink-plum shade. The Satin formula usually requires some gloss on top, but it's fairly soft on it's own. No complaints. Will repurchase!

This is the latest in my MAC lippie collection. I love the plummy rose tone of it and it does stay on a long time (like any MAC lippie). I am fair complected and dont think the color is too much at all. Just right. It looks great with a taupey e/s ala French Grey. If i ever finish it up I will definitely repurchase.

A great color for a special occasion or a night out, this is a deep fuchsia red on me. Very pretty, but a bit overpowering for everyday wear. Though it's described as "semi-matte", I find it a bit drying on my lips. I use it only occasionally, so I doubt I'll ever run out of it.

BEAUTIFUL! I got this when I wanted to take advantage of my Back to MAC. But yeah I was torn between this, VIVA Glam IV, and Chic. But I decided to keep to the satin formula because satin last all effin day. Anyway I layer it with my favorite lustreglass LE Garden to get that frosty/pearlized look that you get from VG IV and Chic. Well anyway I'm so happy with this, and also the fact I got it for free. For reference, I'm a NC 30/35. For some reason, I'm so addicted to their lipsticks, I just keep coming back for more!

Captive isn't a bad color, but it is a bit basic. I like a little bit better when I can gloss it over or use it as a stain.
I'm not using this color as much, so I doubt that I'll be repurchasing.

This is one of my new favorites. For me, it is a very wearable color. And I like the fact that I can wear it day or night. Because of the texture of this lipstick I always put on balm a few minutes before wearing it, but it lasts and lasts and lasts. I like to top it with some sort of gloss a lot of times. Love this color!!

This particular hue is very popular with most of the older people that live in this town. It's this dark berry/plum color that I've seen on everybody's lips since it became popular in the late ninties - which is probably why I'm experiencing burnout every time I see this color. If this color runs out, I will not repurchase.

I'm NC 35 w/ super dark brown hair and eyes. When I first put Captive on, my mom thought it was too dark for me, but then when I experimented a little, it looked really good as a lip stain, and also with Viva Glam VI over it. In fact, I don't think I would wear Captive WITHOUT VGVI gloss on top! I think I look better with warm tones, and those colors just brighten up my face. LOVE LOVE LOVE!

This is a lovely rose-pink on me (MAC Select SPF15 NC45, very pigmented lips). I find that this is a very good day lipstick when I wear a lip balm underneath it. Its in the satin formula which I find to be comfortable with lip balm or plain gloss underneath(but not by itself because that is a little drying)I find it to be a very versatile formula because you can use it matte, glossed up or just stained. Also, the color payoff is rather impressive. I probably wouldn't buy this again, only because I would love to try other colors from MAC.

This is a great shade for an evening out. Too intense on me for the day, it stands out a bit much on my pale skin. MAC has some very pretty and unique shades not to be found anywhere else and this is one of them. I had this in the matte and it was very drying, I haven't tried the satin so can't comment if they've improved.

Captive is a dark mauve-pink, pretty much the same color on the lips as it is in the tube. It's not that bright (as other reviewers remarked,) but it's definitely not soft or dull (MAC Craving is a slightly muted version of Captive, IMO.) The satin formula isn't as drying as the matte formula, but it does last a good few hours before it starts wearing off.

This lipstick sits in my makeup drawer most of the time, except when I'm looking for something very glamourous. The color is a very bright fuschia-pink when applied straight from the tube, which I do not recommend. If applied over lip balm with a brush, the color is more subtle, but I still find it too overwhelming for everyday use. It would probably make good stage makeup, as it is a matte and stays put!
