The good:
- The packaging is super cute! A heart-shaped brush? Yes, please!
- The aforementioned brush has a TON of bristles in a shape that's really more conical than "heart-shaped". It's really good at grabbing each and every lash.
- The formula is thick, which works well with my lashes.
- This formula lasts all day!
The bad:
- The brush is a bit small, but the degree to which that's an issue is up to you.
As much as I personally love this mascara, I realize that it's probably not going to work for everyone. I happen to like thick formulas and plastic brushes. If you don't, then this definitely isn't the mascara for you.
That said, this mascara is a HUGE improvement over the original Great Lash. The original had a terrible brush that could not separate worth jack, resulting in ugly, clumpy lashes. The "great little grabber" brush is just what this thick formula needed. This brush gets between every single lash and offers both great separation and volume. True, it might not reach all the way across your eye in one swoop, but I personally don't mind going section-by-section to make sure that every lash looks good. My lashes look fantastic after just one coat, and two coats is a good amount for parties, so this mascara works for both everyday wear and special events.
The bottom line: If you like thick mascaras and/or are looking for a brush that gives good separation, definitely give Great Lash: Lots of Lashes a try.

I was so excited to see that Maybelline Great Lash had come out with a plastic, heart-shaped wand, and even more excited that it was only about four dollars at my Walmart. I already love my Great Lash and Great Lash Big mascaras, and I was hoping this mascara would be just as good, if not better. First off all, the formula was very thick and wet, making my lashes clump and droop. There was also a lot of excess, which I did wipe off. Then there was that wand. I thought it was going to give me, well, lots of lashes. Wrong. I used it just about every way I that I knew, including ones I've picked up from make up artists, and other people on thIs website. It just didn't seem to work for me. I can't really say anything about smudging or flaking, because right after I put it on, I took it off. I don't usually write reviews, but I hated this so much I just felt the need to. Based on my experience, they should rename this mascara Lots of Clumps or Loss of Lashes, because it clumped so dang much and it made me look like I had LESS lashes. It's probably just as bad as L'Oreal Telescopic, which I didn't think was possible. Going right back to the store ASAP.

I've got to admit, this is pretty good stuff, I really like the technique of the brush, it gets all of my lashes and it gives my lashes a good amount of volume and there lifted up just right, I already have curled long lashes I like them more defined w/ a bold black added to them and this stuff does it for me... At the cheap price why not give it a try, u can't knock it till you have tried it!!! I will buy again.

I was skeptical since I'd heard less-than-stellar things about the original, but this is a great mascara! Great coverage, no clumps. The only imaginable drawback is that the wand's design makes it slightly awkward to apply with your non-dominant hand. I am pretty ambidextrous so I don't have that problem.

The "heart-shaped" brush was amazing. I felt like it and coated every lash.
the bigness at the base got the longer middle lashes, and the smaller part got my smaller lashes on the insides of my lashes. The only problem is that (I got the non-waterproof kind) it does not hold a curl. I'm asian and I have those stick straight lashes that actually go down, with no curl. My lashes are thick, but sparse, and to curl them, I have to apply a clear base coat of mascara, then curl, then mascara, then curl, then mascara (which is torture to those poor lashes! Don't try this at home!) and after curling all of the curl is gone, the consistency was so thick and wet, they just fell and drooped.
However, if you have already naturally curly eyelashes, or you don't really need a curl, this is one of the best mascaras. It's super buildable, and doesn't smear. It's great, but when you start at the base of the lashes, and swoop outwards, it sort of tickle/lightly scratches the upper water line.
UPDATE: Okay, I don't know why I had only given this 3 lippies. I have stopped curling my lashes so extrememly because I have been breaking them off leave it either to my new muscles from workin gout in the winter (not) or the eyelash curler but I have taken a temporary hiatus from the retched torture machine. This mascara is actually really great. It doesn't completely dry, but isn't completely wet when layering and actually seemed to add a slight curl to my eyelashes with no curling. Well done. IMPORTANT: If you notice, most mascaras only come with about 0.27 ounces of mascara, but this version comes with 0.34 which is why it lasts so long! In addition, their formula with a curved brush comes with 0.44 oz which will last almost FOREVER.

It's not a bad mascara. I have short, thin lashes, and this mascara gives me enough volume and decent length.
To all those who are complaining about this mascara being clumpy -- have you tried to wipe off the excess mascara? That's what I do, and I hardly get clumps.
Just try it. I got it for $3.54 or something like that from Target.

PLEASE READ THE NOVEL ALL THE WAY THROUGH!! THANKS.
When I was just starting out with make-up, I only used eye liner and mascara. I used (more specifically) Maybelline's Great Lash mascara "Curling" I WAS IN LOVE!! Once I curled my lashes and took my time applying on this mascara MY LASHES LOOKED LIKE FALSES!! Whoa right!?
However, it dried out fast (even with twist method*) and I was ready to try something new. As I got older I tried a bunch of different types, styles, and brands. (I was pretty loyal to Cover Girl myself)
Doing this I found that even though Great Lash is on the cheaper side (great for starting out) it was not even top 5 fav's list anymore.
SO when I heard about the Great Lash - Lots of lashes I was super excited.
I have been looking for a nice (more cheaper alternative) mascara that will give me the same effect that Lash Blast did but blacker. No such luck.
Great Lash - Lots of lashes is SUCH a disappointment!!
1.) The brush was hard to work with.
2.) The formula was thick and heavy (causing my lashes to droop)
3.) I had to play with my eye lash curler ALOT before "fixing" the problem.
4.) AND it flakes and sags throughout the day.
Etc...
I remember now why I moved on.
THE REVIEW:
I applied one to two coats on my lashes around 7AM this morning and it's now close to 2PM and the results have been in one word: HORRIBLE!!
If this brand (I have NOTHING against the brand FYI) works for you then that's great :) Awesome even. Everyone's opinion is different (not one person in the world is alike perfectly)
QUESTION:
Have any drug store brand mascara you'd recommend to a girl looking for fun, flirty, friendly and full lashes?
TIP*
The Twist Method:
INFO:
When you pump your mascara wand into the tube of your mascara your actually pushing air and bacteria into the formula causing it to dry out alot sooner. This can even give you pink eye, stye, and other irritating feelings in and around your eye.
This being said: Not only get a new fresh mascara every two months (cheap, drug store brands are better and work better anyway...so dont waste your $) but also, while your applying your mascara, twist the wand in and out of the tube.
DO NOT PUMP YOUR MASCARA WAND!!
Thank You.

This mascara is awful. It did not do a thing for my lashes just clumped them together, and made them spidery. Threw it out.

I bought this mascara based on reviews from this site and it's awful!! True, it does not clump and you can build on it to a degree, so spider lashes. But...within ten minutes flat this stuff was flaking off down to my chin practically! It's too bad because otherwise it wasn't bad stuff, but due to the extreme flaking I will be throwing it in the trash.

This has super cute packaging, I love the idea of the heart shaped brush, but it is just not good for me. My HG is Lashblast, but I've been trying to find a cheap alternative. It did give me some volume and curl, but my lashes stuck together and looked really weird. Plus the mascara flakes. The brush is waaay too small too, maybe it would work out if it was bigger. I'm so sad this didn't work for me. FYI: I have thin, long caucasian lashes.

I give this product 4 lippies.
PROS
Doesn't clump
Doesn't flake
Not a lot of product on the brush
CUTE package
Price is pretty good, around $5 (less if on sale or you have a coupon)
CONS
Doesn't hold curl (though this is expected as that's not the specialty of this particular product)
Could do better with giving "lot's of lashes"
This product is ten times better than the standard great lash which did NOTHING for me when I used it. Would buy this product again.

LOVE the new Great Lash!!!! I, like everyone else who was left a review for this mascara, HATED the old Great Lash. The brush is sooooo small, and I hate how big the gaps are. But this one is so great! I have learned that I like rubber wands a lot more than traditional brushes. I have long lashes, but they are thin. I need separation because if I don't separate them, they clump together because they are not thick. Why I love LOL is because of the rubber brush, and because of the cone shape. It is great to use the big part of the cone to coat the outer edges, and the small part of the cone to get the inner lashes. One thing I have noticed is that the bigger bristles get more mascara wiped off of them when coming through the top of the tube. (Obviously) so the top of the cone has a lot of mascara on it. I hope that makes sense...if it doesn't, you'll know what I mean when you buy it. I LOVE how this made my lashes look. It is kind of wet, but it dried really quickly. It held my lashes in a tight curl and didn't make them look gross. Lots of volume! I will use this until I miss my One By One, I think I will just keep switching off. :)

I never understood why so many women and magazines seem to love Great Lash. Yes, I used it when I was young and didn't know any better. But as I got older it didn't work the same on me. So I'm happy about this new LOL that I had to try!
I got this for $4.99 at Ulta and love the brush! I like rubber brushes and much prefer them over the standard mascara brushes. Yes, the brush is smaller than usual, but you really can maneuver it to get at all your lashes. It lengthens great, doesn't flake off, or do anything weird. Which is great since I have sparse, stick straight, short Asian lashes anyway. This mascara does well for me!

This mascara is amazing! I used to hate the old version it made my lashes fall. I wasn't going to try this but my sister who has short lashes wore this and it made her lashes look long..so of course I had to try it..I am so glad I did! It makes me lashes long, full, and holds a curl all day! I posted before and after photos

Unfortunately did this not work well for me. Upon application, my lashes immediately fell and lost all curl. Layering for added thickness and volume resulted in poker straight lashes that dried hard and crusty. It smudged onto both my upper lid area and below my bottom lashes. While it didnt flake or irritate my eyes, this mascara didnt do a thing for me.

i really liked it! i was a little hesitant at first because the old version was pretty wet and didn't hold a curl to save its life but i think they've improved A LOT! and the wand is sooo tiny but flared and it just really grabs my lashes and i swear on anything that you can actually SEE my lashes and their not all clumped together! i'm not sure you can go past two coats bc it might clump on you but i didn't need that much to get what i wanted. and i mean 4 bucks at walmart you can't beat that!

I hated every Maybelline Great Lash I tried, until this mascara. In every magazine, Maybelline Great Lash wins "Best of Beauty Awards." Supermodels, beauty editors, and famous movie stars talk about how it's the greatest mascara in the world. I kept buying it again-in different forms. Regular, curved brush, the color Royal Blue, the limited edition Teal, waterproof, Blackest Black, and Great Lash big. I literally tried Great Lash at least 7 times.
Every time I bought it-it would suck. The formula was running, thin, too wet-would smear & smudge. It would do very little lengthening or thickening. All it seemed to do was darken my lashes. I have short, sparse, stick straight Asian lashes. The hair on my head is thick and long-my eyelashes are awful. I need a dramatic mascara, I am not blessed with long thick lashes that only need to be darkened. The brush was tiny, and would clump the lashes I had together so it looked like I had 5 spikey lashes together. It was awful.
But marketing, the cheap price, the rave reviews in magazines and by celebrities, and the cute packaging (it's hard to miss a pink and bright green iconic tube), the #1 mascara in America hype-it's said that a person buys Great Lash every 1.7 seconds or something kept me coming back.
So why did I got for one last try? Well, I am a mascara junkie and I give everything a try. Cover Girl Lash Blast, Maybelline Colossal, Maybelline Full N' Soft, Maybelline Falsies, Revlon mascaras (they tend to suck-though Revlon does great lipsticks), Loreal Voluminous, Loreal Double Extend and Beauty Tubes, Loreal Collagen mascara, Prestige My Biggest Lashes, my beloved Max Factor mascaras that discontinued (2000 Calorie and Volume Couture were awesome!), Rimmel mascaras (Sexy Curves, Lash Accelerator, Glam Eyes), Almay One Coat, and expensive mascaras: Dior Show, Lancome Deficinils, Lancome Hypnose. I don't think this list is complete-and though I have tried bad and good mascaras-
I went for one more last try with Maybelline Great Lash. Partially because it was on sale, and I read a good review on "Clumps of Mascara" (the largest mascara blog on the internet, or one of the largest) and on MUA.
This mascara is not the best I tried-but for its regular prices (around $5.00)-
it lengthened my lashes considerably, it didn't smudge at all, I can reach all the tiny lashes on the inner corners, the wand is small so it's easy to manipulate and not get on my lid (a problem with huge wands was that even if they gave me volume, they were messy and smeared on my smaller Asian eyelids), and I get some volume. The color is extremely black (I bought the darkest shade), and my lashes stay curled (a huge problem with my stick straight Asian lashes-I even tried heated lash curlers to help). It's more about lengthening, long wear, a very black color, and curl than about volume for me. When I want more volume, I layer a voluming mascara like the Falsies over it.
It's what Great Lash should have been-rather than a legendary marketing hype from beauty editors who are paid for advertising, and movie stars/models who may be using them on false lashes for film, or women who have long, thick lashes to begin with.
Buy this. The rest of Maybelline Great Lash sucks. Okay, the royal blue gives you a cheap way to have blue eyelashes. That's about it. The waterproof can't be removed, and the regular Great Lash is quite possibly the worst mascara I tried. The Lots of Lashes is a big improvement. It's not the best mascara in the world-but it's a huge improvement and delivers beautifully fanned out, curled, longer, and slightly thickened lashes that won't smear or smudge. And I am a girl who always buys waterproof-the regular didn't smudge in heat and humidity.
I will keep buying this. Even at regular price, it's a steal. It can be layered over other mascaras, and it gives you the iconic Great Lash with actual results. About time. 40 years of women buying crap, being sold inky black water with a small, horrible brush. Some things need a makeover, and this mascara is not only cute (heart shaped brush!) but actually delivers.

Maybelline's Great Lash: Lots of Lashes (LOL) is the newest reformulation of the classic mascara; Great Lash. I got my tube from Ulta for $4.99, but after a $5 off coupon, it ended up being free!
I purchased LOL because I was curious, due to all the hype. Also because I'm a big fan of Maybelline mascara, but have mixed feelings about the Great Lash line. The Original Great Lash was my first mascara. It was ok. I later moved on to the Great Lash with the curved brush, which was my go-to mascara for years, until One By One came into the picture.
Great Lash LOL is packaged pretty much the same as the original Great Lash. Hot pink tube, lime green cap. Very appealing. I also think the name of the product is cute, and probably appeals to teenage girls.
The brush, or "Great Little Grabber" as Maybelline calls it is a rubber brush that's supposed to be heart shaped, but I would call it conical. The widest part is at the base and it tapers in from there, into a rounded tip. The shape of the wand is designed to give maximum lift to the lashes in the outer corner. Which it does. My problem is applying it to my left eye. I don't really like to flip my wrist around to apply my mascara, so I end up applying it with my left hand, which turns out ok, but not as perfect as my right eye turns out.
I get awesome lift from this mascara, particularly in the outer corner. It lengthens well, thickens slightly, and keeps my lashes separated by looking full. It pretty much does everything you can ask of a mascara.
I find this mascara a little bit inconsistent, but it might be my lashes. This mascara looks great, every other time I wear it. The times in between it still looks good, but not quite fabulous. Its a little bit annoying, but like I said, it could be my lashes' fault. They're a little inconsistent themselves.
As with all Maybelline mascaras, I experience no flaking or smudging, even on my bottom lashes. I get all day wear. The formula is pretty water-resistant without being waterproof. But it still removes easily with warm water and a bit of makeup remover.
I feel this is a two-coat mascara. The first coat looks good. Natural, with a little bit of extra lift. However the second coat is what really does it. It really separates your lashes and gives really nice length.
This mascara gives me a serious case of Itchy Lashes. After about 6 hours of wear I get an itchiness at the base of my lashes that makes me want to rub my eyes and take my makeup off. I have this problem with a lot of mascaras, including Covergirl Lash Blast Volume and Maybelline's The Colossal Volume Express. I'm not sure what does it, if its the type of formula, or an ingredient. I should probably investigate that further in another post.
I recommend this mascara if you're looking for a lot of lift, with a bonus of length and separation. I also recommend this mascara if you're not a Great Lash lover. This might just make a believer out of you. And for $5 or less, it really can't hurt to try.

I really like this one except for the fact that you have to change your hands when you do a different eye.I mean one is perfect the other one is clumpy. But it gives good volume and length and good for an everyday look : )

I'd been in need of a new mascara for a while, and was scraping the last bits of my Clinique's Long Pretty Lashes (rip!) and I saw Lots of Lashes on display at my local Walgreens. The first thing I do is check out the reviews on MUA haha.
I was impressed by the general positive response so I decided to give it a whirl, in the blackest black. The first thing I really enjoy is the brush. The cone-like shape helps to pick up the tiny lashes in your inner corners, and took my lashes to pretty impressive heights. I really dig the formula, it's slick but not too wet, and the color is perfect. I also was able to get a nice curl, even without using a curling iron.
I'm not the kind of girl who does a day vs. night mascara.. I want big, pretty lashes all the time! I think that this product can definitely do that if applied properly. The price is great, I scored it for around $5, and I love the pretty pink & green "iconic" packaging. For those of you who were "meh" on the original Great Lash, give this formula a try. I think Maybelline is really stepping up their game in terms of quality, so I'm hoping that this is mascara is here to stay.
