My grandmother uses this perfume. However I don't think this is a granny scent because she is a very chic and outgoing woman. It smells very good on some people and terrible on others. On my grandmother it smelled divine. I did not like how it smelled on me when I was a kid playing with my grandmothers make up. I had a sample and was cleaning out my sample stash and my daughter accidentally sprayed me with it. Great, I thought this will make me stink. I continued to clean and I was surprised at how nice it turned out. It smelled just like my grandmother(I mean this in a good way) You have to be confident to wear this fragrance. This is definitely a 100% woman scent. Not for the timid. I don't think I would buy it but if someone gave it to me as a gift I would use it once in a while. A great classic oriental fragrance.

I adore orientals, they smell great on me, and Opium is probably the best of them all. It's a wonderful spicy evening perfume, sexy and rich. I get compliments on it constantly whenever I wear it, usually of the "you smell so sexy and yummy that I could just eat you up" variety. Men swoon and women covet the scent.

It's also a tremendous value. Opium is the only EDT I've ever had that lasts and lasts. It's on par with some EDPs and parfums I have.

Edited to add: Today I tried the Secret de Parfum at Marshall Fields, and I was surprised to find that I didn't like it nearly as much as the EDT! The top and heart notes were virtually non-existent. I won't waste my money buying the expensive stuff because I much prefer the EDT--a first for me. Parfums and EDPs are usually so much better than the EDT.

Opium body lotion or cream is the only way to wear this fragrance. With all the round deliciousness and none of the harsh overtones it will call you back time and again. My all-time favourite special dates or anniversaries

I bought Opium and wore it for the first time around my grandmother. "Who is wearing Old Spice?" she said, and sniffed towards me.

I never wore it again.

I feel very very sexy and in control when I wear this. It smells amazing (on me). Spicy and heady. Nope, it's not for the weak or timid. I can't believe how many compliments I get when I wear this. I have yet to find anything better. I am always looking though. But so far, Opium is my drug.

I made the mistake of spraying this directly on my wrist instead of using a tester card. Know how fragrances you love seem to fade in a short time, yet the ones you hate stay with you what seems forever? I was stuck smelling like I'd just left a Bombay bordello for several hours!

You may be wondering how I know what a Bombay bordello smells. Well, I don't, really. But when I smell it I get whiff of the odd combination of Indian restaurant crossed with dirty feet and alcohol.

I usually love YSL fragrance, but I can't recommend this one.

VERY CLASSY... not for the meek or timid. I think this fragrance has gotten a bad reputation as being a 'granny' scent... well, think again. If you use the creme, you smell the mandarin orange... and that is NOT for a granny. I love the parfum. It lasts, and it SCREAMS "ELEGANCE"!!!!

Right now, I am in love with Opium. I found two, count 'em, two bottles of the body oil spray at Parisian and will buy them after work today. In summer, the oil is the best way to wear it. If you want to feel like a real woman, try this!

Opium is one of those fragrances that is not for everyone. I have a cousin who used to wear this and it smelled really good on her. Everytime I smell this, I'm reminded of being 9 years old in Portugal and my 18 year old cousin who wore this. I think I will always associate this fragrance with that time period. I've tried it a few times when I was at the mall and I liked it on me, however, I don't know if it's a scent I would buy right now. I'm 20 years old, maybe I can see myself wearing this perfume when I'm 25 +... who knows!

I gotta say it. I know a lot of people associate this with older people however I associate it with confident sensuality. I have worn it for years and LOVE it. I am going to buy the Opium Fraicheur mist (which is a little lighter for summer) or the Opium spray oil which is one of the most wonderful products ever! Very soft. I would wear that with the body cream and It just surrounds you without slapping you in the face. Opium is in a class all by itself. The real parfum is wonderful. I think it will always remain a classic like Chanel #5 or Shalimar. It will endure. Not everybody can wear it. I understand that.

I have been wearing this fragrance off and on for years. I keep coming back to it. I just this type of smell more than the colognes that make you smell like a big old flower. On me, this is a warm, spicy scent. And...this is the ONLY scent where a stranger came up to me and said "You smell great -- can I lick you?" Gross and flattering all at once!

Mmmm, warm, spicy... masculine, hated it, then liked it... smells like gingerbread from afar, good enough to eat... to wear? ... on an adventure, maybe, once... but that's it. Too strong, too old, too flat, not for me.

I know Opium has become synonymous with in-your-face 80s scent overload, but I feel the need to defend it, at least historically:-) When Yves Saint Laurent created the concept of Opium, his backers were extremely resistant-the risque scent & name was just too much for them. However he refused to give in, and Opium was created HIS way...a statement to the force of Saint Laurent's character and integrity, unusual in the mass-market world of today's fragrances, where everything is focus-grouped-to death. And, just to prove YSL right, Opium was a huge hit--spawning legions of imitators. It remains, much like Angel, loved and loathed today.

exotic and intoxicating. I feel like 100% woman when I wear opium. The ad with the naked woman laying on dark blue satin in the heat of extacy and obviously in the midst of self pleasure is the sexiest ad ever.

I just do not care for this scent. I expected it to be full-bodied, spicy, oriental, and musky. It is floral, flat, and musty. I know it probably smells good on some people, but on me it was awful.

I *love* this perfume. It's been my signature trademark scent for the past few years, and I get lots of compliments on it.

It's a very sexy, heavy and spicey scent... not for the faint of heart. If you're a dramatic kind of gal, this might be a good one for you. If you prefer more tailored and classic lines, it will probably be too heavy and flashy for you.
