Let's face it. Max factor is hard to find if you live in the city without a Walmart (I think it's a good thing). A friend of mine who wears Chanel and has enviable lashes turned me on to this. She said the brush on the Lash Perfection formulas was almost identical to the brush in her Chanel mascara.
I love a bargain and found this came in both a lengthening and volume formula. Both work well but the volume formula gave me the lusher look I was seeking. Stick to two coats and you won't get any clumping.
I just wish it had curling properties as well.

After reading all the great reviews, i was hoping that this would deliver what everyone said it would. I just was not impressed with this one at all. I found it clumpy as hell and it didn't provide much volume for me. Again, this is personal preference. Maybe it just didn't live up to my expectations. The worst part is when you've tried one you really like, (Diorshow mascara is still the bomb), you end up comparing everything to it, so I really was hoping that this one would be the closest to Diorshow. Unfortunately, it didn't come close to it.

FINALLY! After reading review after review and trying every mascara, both in drug stores and department stores, I have finally found the mascara that is my HG. It is truly the best. It doesn't clump, doesn't flake, comes off easily, and most of all....looks beautiful on my eyelashes. Don't waste your money on Diorshow, or Lancome. This is so much less expensive and far better.
Because it is discontinued I have been stocking up online and when I see it at Walmart. Please have CoverGirl make the same formula!

Great mascara in all aspects. It gives me more curl, volume and length than all of my other high-end mascaras from chanel, bobbi brown, and lancome. For a non-waterproof formula, it also doesn't smudge very much at the end of the day. I love this mascara and what it does for my eyes, but I seem to have a problem with losing lashes with this product. I keep finding one or two lost eyelashes sticking to the bottom of the sink after I wash my face, and I seriously die a little inside every time I see that cause I do not have that many lashes to spare in the first place. I'm gonna put this mascara to the side and go back to my less effective but more expensive ones to see if the problem continues.
Update: I really do think this product makes me lose lashes. After going back to my higher end mascaras, I haven't had that problem. :( shame cause I really did like what this mascara did for me.

I contacted Max Factor about this product, because I think it's fabulous and had read/heard rumours about it being discontinued. Max Factor confirmed via email that they'll stop distributing all products in the USA in January 2010. They wanted me to know that they manufacture CoverGirl, but neglected to respond to my request for a suggested replacement for this mascara.

My current fave mascara!! I have tried them all - cheap, expensive and everything in between...and this is my fave by far! It goes on without clumps, lengthens, gives great volume and lasts all day. I am in love with the plastic bristle brush, I think it does wonders in the clumping department. You can layer this mascara on to your hearts delight! The only con I've seen to it is that after awhile, it begins to dry out (usually when i'm due for another tubs anyway) and then it will flake.
A word to the wise: MAX FACTOR WILL NO LONGER BE SOLD IN THE US, and will begin phasing out early next year according to the articles I've read. It will continue to be sold internationally, but Proctor and Gamble is pulling it from the US market because of poor sales. So in other words, stock up now! I already find it hard to find MF anywhere, I only see it in Walmart and Ulta

I had been researching mascaras that gave eyelashes volume and I came across many reviews saying that this one was good. I always have had good experiences with Max Factor, so I got it. I am very happy with this product, it builds volume easily without clumping (thanks to the brush). I also like how the wand is strong, I don't feel like I am going to snap it in two putting on coats of mascara. The end result, my eyelashes almost look fake! ( I really go over the outer third of my top lashes a lot.)
If you want a mascara that will build volume without clumping while being affordable, buy this mascara. Best mascara I have found in a long time.

This is a great mascara. I used the "soft black" shade, which works well with my pale complexion. This was also my first time using a rubber mascara brush, which I absolutely loved. The mascara volumizes and covers well. I took off one lippie because after about 10 hours of wear, the mascara began to flake. Probably to be expected after wearing it for so long and having an oily lid area. I'm still on the hunt for a great mascara that won't budge, but this has been the best so far.

BEST MASCARA EVER! I've been using this mascara for the past few years and there's nothing better. It doesn't smudge or flake. It gives you the most gorgeous volume. And I'm all about volume, volume, and more volume. It's much more worth it than the pricer mascaras out there. (and I've tried them all)

This is my favorite mascara of all time! I've tried countless of mascaras for my short lashes including brand ones and drugstore ones, and I have never ever bought a mascara twice, thats how particular I am. For years, I just kept buying different ones all the time trying to find one mascara I can actually buy again, and I have finally found the one. This mascara defines my lashes to perfection, provides volume and lengthens them like no other! I've had many friends ask me what mascara Im wearing because they can see the difference especially in the length of my lashes. Oh and did I mention it NEVER clumps, sometimes I apply more than two coats to keep my lashes curled and yet it never clumps, it stays defined to perfection, my lashes just look so long and sleek and so many, and holds the curl forever. I just love this mascara and Im happy to finally just go to the store and not try a different one and just head straight to this one. Theres just no comparison to this baby right here, This is HG for sure!

OOOOOH I could certainly sing my praises for this mascara!!! I have short, stick straight Asian lashes, and no mascara has been as flattering as this one, not even h/e ones. It lengthens, volumizes and manages to look dramatic and natural at the same time! No smudging, no flaking, and trust me I have *definitely* tested it out on full workdays, followed by crazy workouts at the gym. Plus, through it all it holds a curl and never feels stiff. Dies.
I must say that I tried MF 2000 calorie first because of its cult status on the boards, and was terribly disappointed. It was a spidery, clumpy, unnatural mess that did not hold a curl. Not one of the worst mascaras I've tried (that honor goes to Great Lash), but it is definitely not HG status like its little sister!
Frankly, it's amazing. Please stock up before MF drags it off US shelves. =(

My HG mascara. This gives me long, thick lashes that are natural looking. I ALWAYS wipe the brush off first, and never get clumping. I have no reason to try anything else, because this gives me the perfect lashes.
Btw, I first tried 2000 Calorie Mascara (of which this is a type) in the 8th grade when I sent off for a free sample. I'm 33 now and have never really left. Can't speak for the rest of MF's makeup, but they sure have mascara figured out.

This is a pretty good mascara. Nothing amazing but still really good. This is perfect to wear to school. It gave me lots of length and good volume. It separates very nicely and gives a strong look, definitely not the wispy flirty lash look. Occasionally it will clump and flake.

This is a really good mascara, especially for going out at night. I like the plastic bristles and this does a good job at giving your lashes volume. A big plus is that this never smudges on me even though it is mid-July now and the subway can get like an oven. However, it does clump my lashes a bit when I apply it and I have to spend a minute or two after I apply the mascara separating them a bit and picking a few clumps off the ends before I feel I'm done. It's when I try to apply a second coat that I usually run into problems. But it's a small price to pay - I've actually received several compliments on how long my eyelashes look. Guess I'll keep using!

I have naturally long eyelashes, my problem is that I am a blond, so my eye lash roots are blond as well.
This mascara may be good for thickening the eyelashes, but it flakes off so easily. Fakes off after a few hours, totally not worth it.
Plus this company is not cruelty free, so double loss here.

I have short, thin Asian lashes that are stick straight. I have tried one mascara after another to see what will make a difference: 1) Great Lash-liquidy, very little effect, smudges easily, 2) Maybelline Full N' Soft-nice mascara, 3) Max Factor 2000 Calorie-good, volumizing mascara, 4) L'Oreal Voluminous-great mascara but can get clumpy with multiple coats, 5) Maybelline Colossal Volume-very thickening, perhaps more than Lash Blast but can get clumpy, 6) CG Lash Blast-good mascara, but a bit overhyped-the separation, volume, and length are good-but the brush is difficult to maneuver on small lids and I actually get more volume with some other mascaras, 7) L'Oreal Telescopic-good lengthening, but very little volumizing, 8) Revlon Lash Fantasy-clumpy, 9) Maybelline XXL Curl-good for lengthening-but the primer can get messy, 10) Almay One Coat-good mascara, 11) Maybelline Volumin' Express-lots of volume, but also lots of clumps. Then there are a couple of department store mascaras I have tried-Lancome Hypnose, Lancome L'Extreme, Lancome Definicils-great mascaras but expensive for something you replace every 3 months. So in the end-(and I am not even done, I have tried more mascaras than this)-Max Factor Lash Perfection Volume Couture is my go-to mascara for separation, length, volume, with less clumping and no smudging. I dont even have the waterproof version but it never smudges on me even in humidity. Damn Max Factor for discontinuing in the U.S. soon-stock up while you can.

This mascara is great...until it dries. What is up with Max Factor and crunchy mascaras? That is a deal breaker for me. This mascara does lengthen, volumize, and define, and it does have a rich black color, but I cannot get over having stiff, crispy, crunchy lashes. It just doesn't seem very healthy for your lashes. I do like this one better than the 2,000 Calorie though, as it is SLIGHTLY less stiff. And although I threw away this mascara after 2 uses, I did clean off and keep the brush. I use it like a lash comb after applying non-stiffening mascaras. If you do not mind having hard lashes, you will love this mascara. But I cannot repurchase this.

I love this mascara! I alternate between this one and Maybelline Full n' Soft, but I think my lashes look a bit more dramatic with the Max Factor. It doesn't clump or flake on me and, most importantly, doesn't smudge AT ALL. I have naturally dark circles under my eyes and I work hard to cover them up and keep my entire eye area looking bright -- I can't have raccoon eyes due to poor performing mascara! This stuff never fails me and I will happily buy again and again. Definitely a drugstore option to try, ladies.

I used this mascara for the first time yesterday in rich black and I absolutely loved it. It didn't clump and it defined my lashes wonderfully. They looked long and lovely. Like another reviewer stated this is very similar to Lancome Definicils, but at a much better price!

Volume Couture is quite possibly the best mascara ever made! I find the effect is very similar to Dior Iconic, however, Iconic smudges by the end of the day and is almost three times the price. VC never smudges and is super easy to remove. Since I can't ever find Max Factor 2000 Calorie in black, I chose this one on my last trip to Wal-Mart. I like the brush, because it holds just the right amout of product and it doesn't clump...ever! The formula is pretty close to perfection, as well...Yay, for a mascara that actually lengthens, doesn't smudge or flake, curls, and volumizes without clumps! It's also very easy to remove. Since I don't like to tug and pull at my lashes with makeup remover, I wet my lashes with warm water and gently wiggle my finger under them. This makes the product come off on my index fingers in tube like strands. I have found that this method works the best for me and doesn't result in lash fallout. This product is a little hard to find, however, I would definitely repurchase.
