I was really expecting to love Boots' Original Beauty Formula Cleansing Milk, but was extremely disappointed. I usually like Boots products, but the only thing I really liked about the cleansing milk was the pretty vintage bottle. It looks nice on my shelf, but the product itself just doesn't cut it for me. First, the packaging is impractical and the cleansing milk, which has the consistency of a lotion, is difficult to get out of the bottle. Second, the smell is overpowering for something you put on your face, and honestly it isn't a very pleasant scent. That's coming from someone who isn't sensitive to smells and generally really enjoys products with strong scents, and especially anything with a floral or herbal scent. This was just too much. Third, it didn't do a very good job taking off my makeup at all. It took off maybe half of my foundation, and I didn't even dare try to use it on my eye makeup (I know better than to put something with that strong a smell anywhere near my eyes). Finally, I just don't like the way my skin feels after using this - kind of itchy and irritated. Overall I found this to be a very substandard product, and wouldn't recommend it to anyone.

Love the geranium-rosy scent, the milky-creamy consistency of the cleanser and the beautiful 'vintage' style bottle (even though it is sort of difficult to get the cleanser out! lol). The cleanser does a decent job of removing any gunk off the face.
Looks like I am sensitive to some ingredient in this cleanser as it makes may eyes itch after I use it, but it is not too bad. I wish they would reduce the dimethicone and parabens in all of Boots products.

I'm going to go against the crowd and say I did not like this. First, packaging. It was in a box in the store, so I didn't know till I got home that the bottle is glass with a screw top. Don't like glass container in BR, and cap makes it hard to get product out. The scent is geranium; it does smell like rose geranium but I didn't like it. Product is thick, and difficult to get out. It did not get all my mu off, and I was only wearing tm and powder. Hard to rinse off, and face felt just a bit oily after using it.

When I found this product, I was looking for a cleansing milk at Target. I loved the old timey look of the bottle. I don't like the scent, it's the only thing I don't like about it. It removes my waterproof mascara with ease, and it leaves my face refreshing. I wish the bottle was easier to use, the consistency of the liquid of the bottle that I got was thick. I have to shake it, and then I can get it out by sticking to cotton ball, or my fingers in it. Other than that, I really like it.

I was excited to try this product because everyone gave it good reviews. I tried this product for a few days and I have a change of thought. It did leave my skin looking clean and fresh, but after a while, it kind of dried my cheeks. Although it did not leave my skin feeling tight and dehydrated, I noticed that the dry patches on my cheeks came back. I guess I have to put moisturizer on after cleaning my face. The thing that bothers me the most is that this product kind of stings my under eye area and my cheeks. The stinging sensation goes away after I rinse it with water, but even after wiping it off with a cotton pad, the stinging is still there. The smell isn't great. I actually think that Pond's cold cream smells better. It isn't as oily as the Pond's cold cream and that's all I like about it. The packaging is unique, but I prefer it to be in a plastic tube so that I can squeeze the product out. I wouldn't purchase this product again.

I love this stuff so much. I have very sensitive, very acne-prone, combo skin with some patches of eczema so I have a hard time finding products that work and don't cause one problem or another.
Cleansers that remove makeup tend to irritate my skin, oil cleansers are too harsh and dry me out, cold creams are too heavy and cause breakouts. This stuff is perfect paired with a gentle cleanser, non-drying but not too emollient and it still removes every bit of my makeup. My mom (who is breakout prone but has drier skin) is able to use this alone rather than following with a cleanser and loves it just as much as I do.

Excellent choice for dry skin- it’s a good old fashioned “cold cream” type cleanser. It’s actually kind of like a moisture mask as its best applied and left on for a minute before rinsing off. I like that the main ingredients are simple and no frill - water, olive oil and a couple different types of cocoa butter. However, I am not really thrilled that this contains parabens just bc I don’t see any reason for them BUT they aren’t concentrated enough to bring on any worries. The price is great (around $7.00) and I give mega lippies for the glass jar (stabilization, keeps fresh, and looks cute on the counter too). I would NOT recommend for people prone to breakouts but I highly recommend this for dry skin and aging skin types and those who don’t like foaming cleansers.

To reiterate what Dee652 said, this product is NOT for oily/acne prone skin. After 2 days of using this, my chin and cheeks broke out horrifically! I'm still trying to get rid of some of these pimples. However, I love the smell and the packaging. I just wish it would work a little better for my skin type.
Would like to try more Boots products.

I teared up after using this product in a happy omg I found the best cleanser ever way, I am a product junkie always trying to find the best, never loyal to one skin care product, I've been fighting with my rosy red angry skin for 5/6 years and this calmed and made it look normal again HG. Ps never wrote a review about any skincare/makeup product since nothing ever impressed me this much.

My favorite cleansing product ever. I bought it on a lark and I am so glad I tried it. This is so gentle but it removes all my makeup even my waterproof mascara. I have to agree with another reviewer, it does sting around the eyes so I do use a separate product to remove eye makeup.
This product leaves the skin smooth and moisturized. I will definitely be buying this again.
+A for being affordable and for the adorable old time-y packaging.

Great for people with sensitive skin that can't use foaming cleansers without your skin feeling tight and rashy. My staple has been Shu Uemura's cleansing oil, but at 75 bucks a pop it's a hefty purchase! I tried this on a whim and love it. It smells like cold cream, comes in a lovely bottle, evaporates my makeup, and is so gentle on my skin in that it does not strip moisture but leaves it soft afterwards.
I use it by massaging a blob onto a dry face and then either washing it off or wiping it off with a cotton pad.

The packaging is very refreshing and enjoyable to look at. In a glass bottle the pricing isn't going to make you empty your wallet. I sometimes just use my finger to rub over my face you don't always need a cotton ball as suggested. Feels great on the skin and makes mine feel a lot softer than before.

Never before tried a cleansing milk but I was very impressed! Completely had the look and smell of an old-timey product- pretty floral scented liquid in a glass bottle. I'm still figuring out how to use it best, but using a damp cotton pad did a great job of removing face and eye make up. I felt refreshed and hydrated afterwards, which is great as my skin tends to dry out easily when I wash it too much. I'd recommend to someone who wants an affordable alternative to ineffective foaming cleansers without shelling out the money for a cleansing oil. I'll probably use it in the evenings to remove my make up, and start the day with my usual face wash.
**edit: took off one lippie because its not the best for oily skin, and I feel like it leaves a layer that could be problematic for acne-prone skin

I was a little wary of the cleansing powers of a "milk" as I'm used to using plant/nut oils that cut through full makeup with ease. But, being pleasantly surprised by the vanishing cream from this range (and loving the prim Victorian vibe), I thought I'd give it a go. The texture is light, like a lighter lotion version of cold cream. But it really does work, removing longlasting foundation, mascara, even red lipstick with little effort. I tip a blob into my palm, rub my hands together and smooth it over my face, including eyes and lips. I spend about 20-30 seconds massaging it gently and then swipe it off with a damp muslin. The formula does make my eyes sting a little when it gets in them (which I don't find with my plant oils) - but the feeling lasts only a second or two. You may wish to use something else for your eye makeup if your eyes are sensitive - e.g. a dab of olive oil (which is one of the cleanser's main ingredients, too.) I find that my skin feels a lot cleaner than when I use oils. It's soft and smooth but not taut. I know a lot of people hate a residue when they cleanse, so this milk is a lovely light option that gets your skin thoroughly clean and feeling supple but without stripping away moisture.
I can't give it 5 lippies because I'm not keen on parabens. Plus, although the glass bottle looks pretty and ladylike, a pump would be easier to dispense the product.
Ingredients: water, olive fruit oil, glycerin, cocoa seed butter, cetearyl olivate, dimethicone, cetyl alcohol, sorbitan olivate, phenoxyethanol, xanthan gum, methylparaben, ethylparaben, citronellol, tetrasodium edta, geraniol, linalool, citric acid, pelargonium graveolens flower oil, limonene, parfum, rosa damascena flower oil.
(The ingredients of this product are extremely similar to those in the vanishing day cream, so if you like one, chances are you'll like the other.)

Typically with nontraditional cleansers (gels, powders, lotions, etc) I don't feel especially clean. If something doesn't foam or lather I still feel dirty. With this cleansing milk I felt very fresh. My skin was supple as well.
Using the milk is a bit strange, but I can get used to it. I will buy this again.

Excellent, excellent stuff. Smells like old-fashioned cold cream, which makes me nostalgic -- reminds me of my mom and being little and getting to try her make-up.
It is a moderately thick liquid, kind of like a very liquified cold cream. Very soothing, leaves my skin clean, neither oily nor dry. Great for heavy make-up days, as it gets rid of everything - again, like cold cream, but leaving much less greasy residue. The scent is strong enough that it would surely bother people sensitive to scents, but I quite like it and it fades pretty quickly.
The Victorian-ish glass bottle with metal cap is absolutely lovely for display, but I have to confess I'd prefer a pump or squeezy bottle when actually using the product. But it pours easily enough.
Lately has been on half-price at Boots, so a bottle is less than 2 quid - a bottle seems to last me a few months w/ say 4x/wk use (I alternate w/ Boots Expert and L'Occitaine, depending on how much make-up I'm wearing and how grimy I feel), so bargain city. Does this mean they're phasing it out? I hope not.

This is for the Original Cleansing Milk NOT the Botanical Cleanser. Got this at Target for a steal. Love the pkg., especially that the whole line comes in glass bottles & jars. No pump. Love the feel & slip of this...it's the perfect consistency imo. I bought the Cold Cream for night & this for am use so I can't comment on its ability to remove m/u. I am going to give it a try at night though. I like the cold cream but I like this even better. If it does a good job of removing my mineral makeup then it's going to be my go to cleanser.

I use this to remove facial makeup- could be used on eye makeup too but I have sensitive skin and find it makes it a little sore- due to the AHA's in it. For the same reason you should wear an SPF when using this as it chemically exfoliates to leave new skin vulnerable to rays.
This cleanser combined with the Botanics Skin Brightening Toner has improved my complexion no end! Smaller pores- almost non existant on my forehead! Hardly any breakouts and all around glowing, fresh, bright skin.
Great for making dull skin radiant again- as it strips the dead cells from the surface.
Do not spend loads on expensive brands when this amazing, huge pump bottle is available for under a fiver!
I love everything I have ever used from the Botanics range- they never upset my very sensitive skin- even though Liz Earle products gave me a rash!!!
