I had never tried the famous Shu cleansing oil, although I've tried plenty of other oil cleansers and liked several of them well enough, but not enough to stick with them. My skin was out of whack a couple of months ago (mid-winter) and was just dry no matter what I tried, and yet my pores were getting clogged from all of the serums and gunk I was treating it to. And it's very sensitive so if I'm not careful it will turn bright red, itch, burn, break out. I went to Space NK in a state of desperation and an SA recommended this. Bless her, because it's the best cleanser I've ever tried, absolutely my HG. It feels so soothing when I massage it in, it takes everything off, it rinses off completely and leaves my skin feeling perfect, like young skin (which it is not). Now I am keeping things simple - this in the PM, the Konjac sponge in the AM, and Ren's Hydra-calm cream day and night, and my skin has never looked better. This stuff is pricey, but the company does samples so you can try it first. I would highly recommend it for sensitive, mature skin.

I have been using MAC Cleanse Off Oil for the last 4 years as a makeup remover. My skin is very prone to acne and clogs, and I was very wary of changing my routine, but the MAC was working out to be very expensive as I needed at least 4 pumps to remove all my makeup!!
A while ago I received a sample of this in a swap and loved it, but at the time MAC was working fine and saw no reason to change.
After many trips to the local SpaceNK, and getting little to no help from the staff, I managed to get access to a proper Shu counter where the girl was just a doll and helped me choose this one for my skin type, and gave me lots of samples without me even asking!
I only need 2 pumps of this to remove all my makeup, it does so very gently and my skin looks better than it has in months! I can feel this conditioning and caring for my skin, a sensation I never got from the MAC.
It has a light scent, a little floral and quite refreshing, the scent does not linger once removed.
I travel a lot, and the bottle is perfect for this as the pump has a locking mechanism.
The packaging is sleek and sophisticated, it looks gorgeous in my bathroom.
My only issue is the price, but I guess that I don't mind paying so much for a product that actually works! I have so far loved everything I've tried from Shu (lash curlers and purple mousse primer) so I will be investigating this brand further.

I love this facial cleanser! It takes off everything (including waterproof mascara) and leaves my skin glowy. It smells good, feels great going on, and feels great being rinsed off. I also love the way it foams up when I rinse it off.

I got this as a deluxe sample after ordering the Glow On blushes and Rouge Unlimited lipsticks (great products btw) and have been using it consistently to take off my makeup everynight. I usually love japanese cosmetics (and think very highly of their quality) but I am pretty sure this stuff has been breaking me out, I had very nice skin before this and now I have lots of whiteheads. I was in denial about it initially and I was reluctant to believe it but I haven't used anything else new and this is what I've consistently been using on my skin. It did take off my makeup (including eye makeup) and it didn't leave a residue but for some reason it just doesn't do well on my skin :(

I cant believe what the shuumera cleansing oil has done to my skin! I used it for about 4 weeks and at first i thought i was breaking out because its a new product that i am using. My skin has gone from clear to disastrous acne!!
DONT BUY THIS PRODUCT GIRLS. THE PRODUCT FEELS SO AMAZING WHEN USING IT, BUT ITS ONLY UNTIL AFTER YOU REALISE YOUR BREAKING OUT IN NEW SPOTS EVERYDAY!!! EVERYDAY GIRLS!

DON'T USE IT IF YOU KNOW WHAT'S GOOD FOR YOU.

Well this cleanser has really surprised me. I normally use Eve Lom Cleanser (which is more expensive) which doesn't work that well unless you go through the proper cleansing ritual with massage, cloth etc- I do like doing that from time to time, but I never manage it every night. Enter Shu's Cleansing Beauty Oil - so easy to use, gets rid of all makeup, leaves skin hydrated and soft really quickly.

WARNING - for approx the first week of use I had a few breakouts - I persevered and 5 weeks later my skin is the softest and most hydrated it has ever been, it's glowing and it feels really pampered.

HG for me!

Oh and I have dry skin, rarely break out, but have fine lines and a fairly uneven tone because I'm really pale.

This oil is great for dissolving makeup but its clogs my pores badly! I have NEVER experienced breakout/acne to the extent I have with this cleanser in my life! I have used Fancl oil cleanser in the past without any problems and it was a bad mistake to switch to Shu, after reading all the hype. I find that the breakout only appears after 2 - 3 days of continuous usage. I now have to treat my breakouts and it's taking a long time! I would not recommend this product to people with sensitive skin. Very dissapointed.

I deem this as that product I miss after I realize I don't have it anymore. The reason behind it is when I was on my first bottle I thought, meh. I decided to switch to the pink one for my second bottle (the one for pore-clarifying) and then I see the difference. The pink one dries my skin out and it leaves it dehydrated but oilier, and doesn't absorb any product I put on my face. Also all my hydrating products stop working. I realize it's not those hyaluronic acid making my skin bouncy with water but this oil. In short I am quitting pink and returning to ol' faithful frosted yellow.

I have given this cleanser 4 out of 5 solely because it is so obscenely expensive. The small 150ml bottle is £28 and the large 450ml bottle is £58.60. It does have some beautiful essential oils in it, but I think that regardless the price is above and beyond what is reasonable, and that is the ONLY negative thing I have to say about this cleanser.

I've been using this for a couple of weeks. I decided to purchase after I received a sample with my Nobara stick foundation and I absolutely fell in love with it.

'A/I' stands for 'anti-inflammatory' and it's the richest formula which they offer to people who have dry or easily irritated skin. The formula is really novel: it's an oil cleanser which you massage onto dry skin, and then splash a little water onto to 'emulsify'. It then turns to something like milk, and splashes off incredibly easily. Essential oils condition and soften the skin and the clever synthetics allow it to turn into the milk which gets it all off. It removes make up of all kinds with the greatest of ease - and without a trace. I don't use cotton wool, muslin, a flannel, or anything to wash my face with it. I just use my hands and gently massage, and away go foundation, waterproof eyeliner, mascara - the lot.

It leaves my skin feeling incredibly soft, and cleans fabulously. I always tone with cotton pads (I love Lush's 'Breath of Fresh Air' aloe and seaweed toner) so if my cleanser leaves any traces behind I know about it - and this cleanser certainly doesn't.

Since using it, my skin has become noticeably softer, and the tone noticeably more even. I will consider shelling out the £56.50 for the large bottle when my diddy one runs out, solely because you get more than three times more product for less than three times the price, and I know I will repurchase this again and again. Sorry, bank balance!

A great makeup removal oil. Gets rid of waterproof makeup very well. I still think that my face feels a bit oily after I rinse off with water, so I always follow with another facial wash to prevent acne break outs and acne cyst.

So glad I started off with this one. It's not funky like the whitening oil and doesn't really take away fine lines. But, for me...it really is just right. I can't imagine a day without it (if I'm wearing make up that is). Seems to last forever. 1 pump for the whole face. Removes eye makeup as well as foundation etc...great buy. Maybe will try another kind when I'm done with this one : )

I have been using MACs cleansing oil for years and years. Unfortunately I got bored and wanted to try something new. The SA at the counter was hardly helpful, but recommended this cleanser for my skin type (oily/combo, sensitive, acne prone). Using it for the first time, I found it was definitley thicker than MAC's, but removed makeup very well. I found it harder to remove than MACs as well, and felt that it left a bit of a residue behind. No wonder the SA was trying to pressure me into purchasing a toner!
Happily enough I used this cleansing oil for about a month before I started getting raging breakouts on my forehead, cheeks, chin, neck and chest. Hundreds of weird whiteheads! I was totally in denial that this was caused by the oil - my Dr. thought I had folliculitis from practicing hot yoga and prescribed me antibiotics!
Obviously, through the process of elimination, I figured out this was the culprit. By then, it was too late to return it, and the damn SA refused to exchange it too, so now I have a $70 bottle of acne juice sitting in my cupboard.

I like it. I have been using DHC's deep cleansing oil, and changed to this one after finding a decent deal on ebay. It removes my makeup thoroughly, and i don't follow up with any additional cleanser after this. while it does leave my skin comfortable and in good condition, I would probably go back to DHC after this bottle (which will last a long time bc i got a big bottle). the emulsification process is much quicker and easier with DHC, and this thing is expensive!! Being a fulltime student, I don't think I can continue using this despite stronger cleansing power.

I purchased this product because of the excellent reviews that I had read about it. I have very dry skin in the wintertime so I was open to the idea of slathering oil all over my face! I didn't really expect it to do anything other than moisturize my skin but I was totally wrong! After the very first use I noticed than my pores looked smaller and after I rinsed the product off of my face It felt very clean!

The proper way to use this oil is to rub the oil all over your face and then splash water on top of the oil and rub until it forms a milky type of consistancy.

I purchased the smallest 1.5 oz bottle from sephora.com for 12 USD. The smallest size does not come with a pump but with a small hole in the top in which the product is dispensed.

I didn't expect much from this product therefore I didn't want to invest full price for it. I am now a firm believer in the power of cleansing oil and will be purchasing a larger size when I run out of my travel size!

I was really skeptical to try this cleansing oil because I had a very bad reaction to the Laura Mercier Cleansing Oil a few years back (breakout gallore). After reading such raves about the Shu Uemura cleansing oils, i decided to try it. I initially went in to buy the green one (A/O) but 1) I didn't like the smell of cucumbers and 2) the SA recommended this one for me since I have sensitive skin which is blemished and red. I have to say that I'm totally loving it. I use this to remove makeup and wash with Dove soap afterwards to get rid of any residue. I love the smell of camomile and the texture of this oil is perfect - not too runny and not too thick. I will definitely repurchase. i bought the small bottle to try out and once that fnishes I will get the large one which retails for around $85 Cdn (before taxes). Pricey but if it gives me clear and baby soft skin, then why not! EDIT (May 2010): When I went to re-purchase this, the SA told me that its been replaced with another Cleansing Oil (yellow in colour as well). Ahh I hope its the same formulation or better. Am disappointed that my HG cleanser has been dc. EDIT (Nov 2010): I just found out that this is still available and thank goodness it has not been discontinued. Yay!! Will repurchase this always!

Excellent product ... I use this at night to remove make-up and it removes everything including stubborn make-up ... another added bonus is that it does not cause eye irritation and leaves me with soft skin. It is pricey but well worth the investment ... I purchased a large bottle 15 months ago and still have half the bottle remaining ... Shu Uemura Cleansing Oils are the best you can buy and I will certainly repurchase either the Premium A/I which I currently own or one of the other Shu Uemura Cleaning Oils. Highly recommended!

i use this as a makeup remover and it does a good job. however, it doesn't remove waterproof eyeliner or mascara easily. i use a separate eye makeup remover because it seems to require too much rubbing and i don't like getting oil in my eyes. as well as removing makeup, this helps keep my pores clear - i can actually feel and see the gunk that comes out of my pores while i gently massage this on my face. this hasn't caused any irritation on my sensitive/acne-prone combination skin. the first time i got to try this was when i was at a Shu Uemura counter and the MA tried using the UV Base on me. i had a reaction to it and she used the A/I to remove it and immediately the burning sensation eased. i've been using it since. the smell is pleasant. it makes me look forward to my night regimen. any oil will leave a residue, but it's good to use because it's the best thing to dissolve makeup and natural oil. just follow with a regular cleanser. a downside is that this stuff is expensive! but it does last quite a while. i use two pumps to get good slip so i'm not tugging at my skin. UPDATE: the large 450ml size has lasted me 9 months with daily use so it's really not that expensive. definitely HG!

Perhaps it was just me, but this product was given to me by my mother. I tried it for the past week and it removes all traces of foundation and powder clearly, but it doesn't remove my mascara at all. The next morning I would wake up with residue under my eyes due to my mascara rubbing off in my sleep. Also, it makes me break out - it could be because I haven't followed directions exactly (I would pump it out onto a cotton pad and rub it around my face, then rinse it off with water), but either way, the feeling of having oil on my face just irks me. Even if it was cleansing oil.

I have been using this product for a week. This product takes off my make-up perfectly and my face feel soft afterwards.

I have sensitive combination skin and I usually follow up with another gentel face wash. My sensitive cheeks seem to be ok after a week's use, however my forehead's having a bit of break out and i usually don't get any blemishes there.

will use for another week and post an update....don't want to give up because i bought the large bottle!
