I love this lotion! I buy the giant bottle for around $15, which is not bad because it lasts me a really long time even when I use it everyday. Unscented, which I love! Gentle, does not break me out, and most important soaks in super fast without greasy residue. I am a "morning showerer" so I need a lotion that soaks in without grease fast! I cannot be putting my clothes on and getting lotion stains on me.

Non-comedeogenic, Cruelty free, No parabens, Sulfates, or Phthalaltes!

My hands, elbows, and sometimes my arms get really dry. I purchased this lotion, because the price was good for the size, it's unscented- so it won't clash at all with any of the perfumes that I wear, and it says that it's good for sensitive skin.

Well, I have been using this lotion for the last several months, and while I can say that the bottle has lasted me a very long time, I can't say that the reasons for that are all good. This lotion seemed to be okay to use during the Summer, when my skin was naturally a little oily from the heat; but during the Fall and Winter seasons, this lotion just didn't cut it for me at all. Even though it costs more, especially for the amount that you get- I have found myself going back to the Gold Bond Ultimate lotion, that I used to use.

I will keep the remainder of the this Alba Botanica lotion to use on my legs when I need it, but I won't repurchase it once I run out.

I've used this lotion for a couple of years. I used to love this one in the warm/hot and humid months, because it was light and sank in quickly. It's also very reasonably priced.

However, the last bottle that I got says "new improved hydration" on it, and it's definitely a different formula. This stuff is unscented, but the ingredients now have a weird, pungent smell to them. I only use this lotion on my legs nowadays, so I guess it doesn't bother me *that* much. But the formula has changed too. It's no longer light and silky; now it's thicker and takes a lot longer to sink in. It does leave a little bit of a film over the skin, but it's not as bad as the "new and improved" versions of the Nature's Gate lotions, thankfully.

The newer version of the lotion does seem to be more moisturizing in dry and cold weather. The old version wasn't heavy or hydrating enough for the winter. So I guess that can be a plus. I've read that adding a little distilled water to this lotion makes it more similar to the older, thinner version, but I haven't tried that yet. Could be helpful for use in summer. I'll include both versions of the ingredient lists so you can compare for yourself.

New Ingredient List: water, glycerin, glyceryl stearate SE, safflower seed oil, sesame seed oil, cetyl alcohol, dimethicone, ethylhexyl stearate, cetearyl alcohol, shea butter, avocado oil, organic jojoba seed oil, grape seed oil, organic aloe barbadensis leaf juice, organic camellia sinensis leaf extract, organic matricaria flower extract, cucumber fruit extract, coneflower extract, organic lavender extract, allantoin, panthenol, tocopheryl acetate, lecithin, polysorbate 60, potassium hydroxide, xanthan gum, organic alcohol, benzoic acid, dehydroacetic acid, phenoxyethanol.

Old Ingredient List: purified water, safflower seed oil, glycerin, isopropyl palmitate, glyceryl stearate SE, stearic acid, jojoba seed oil, cucumber fruit extract, ulva lactuca extract, organic green tea extract, organic aloe vera extract, organic lavender extract, organic coneflower extract, organic matricaria flower leaf extract, organic rosemary extract, sesame seed oil, grape seed oil, avocado oil, allantoin, panthenol, tocopherol, lecithin, sodium benzoate, cetyl alcohol, dimethicone, citric acid, sodium hydroxide, carbomer, ethylhexlglycerin, potassium sorbate.

PROS: Perfect amount of moisturizing for me (doesn't leave any greasy film but really moisturises my dry skin, especially on feet and legs.) No scent. Natural ingredients.

CONS: A little hard to find, although, now, my Walmart is carrying this. The 32 oz. pump packaging doesn't let you easily get the last of the product out easily. I have to end up turning it upside down and messing with it to get the remainder out. (I did give it a bad packaging rate for this reason.)

PURCHASING TIPS: I get this cheaper through Walmart or even cheaper through Vitacost. I also get the larger sizes to save money on it, which is 32 oz. pump.

APPLICATION TIPS: I like to have at least a little moisture left on me from the shower before applying this. It really seals the moisture in, and I get to use less product. But this works great without the wet too. :)

I am very pleasantly surprised by this lotion! I have incredibly sensitive skin on my legs, which always seems to be dry and irritated and bumpy and itchy... Every lotion that I've ever used have burned horribly after I shave. I use straight coconut oil now, but it's not very travel-friendly, so I needed something else while at the SO's. I picked this up on a whim, and it's fantastic! No burn or sting when applied to freshly shaved legs, and my skin feels soft and smooth, with no bumps or irritation or itch!
It's honestly the best lotion I've tried to for sensitive skin. I will definitely repurchase!

I got this unscented version based on the 90% rebuy reviews on the original version. The ingredients are the same except no fragrance. It doesn't smell like anything in the container but once I put it on my skin I smell like PHO. No I haven't eaten any recently. Maybe its just my body chemistry with it but it doesn't smell very good on me. I usually use Vaseline Intensive Rescue Repairing Moisture Lotion and wanted to try to find something better. With this it seems like I need to put on 2x as much lotion as normal to get half the moisturizing ability as my vaseline lotion. I do like how it has all the natural oils but they just don't stack up. It doesn't last very long either, ive had it 5 days and I am already 1/3 through the bottle. It also absorbs really fast which is nice for the beginning of the day, maybe during summer instead of winter. But definitely need something more moisturizing after a shower. I am probably going to try Gold Bond Ultimate Healing Skin Therapy Lotion next.

I've been using the original v.e.b.l. (the regular version) since 2003. It is a holy grail body lotion for me.

The unscented seems to have a different texture, and I don't like it as well. It is thicker and greasier. If you have dry skin, it will probably work better for you. I have normal skin, and it is just too thick.

Only buy the largest bottle you can get through in a couple months. Due to the natural ingredients, it doesn't have a long shelf life. I've had large bottles go rancid on me.

Reviewing the unscented version. A great light weight body lotion. This is not super hydrating even though it says "very emollient" on the bottle. It is still a wonderful product. I use this on myself, and on my nail clients because it is natural & unscented it works on anyone including babies. It has enough slip it can be used to massage, (I only use on legs & arms cant comment on body massage) I have not read up on the health benefits of this lotion or the oils in like other reviewers so I can't comment on them. But I have not had any complaints from anyone. If I use this at night on my feet I might wake up a few hours later and have to reapply. This doesn't have a runny texture, and it isn't greasy. It has a bit of tackiness or stickiness to it until it dries. I didn't like it at first for that reason, but it has grown on me this winter and I appreciate it because its natural. My bottle says "new improved formula" . Hypo-allergenic, no parabens, or artificial things. Love the pump top on my bottle, that is why I purchased. I am now an Alba fan. :)

This is my favorite body lotion for the winter. I tend to use it on damp skin so that it mixes with and locks in the moisture. I don't like fragrances in my skincare products and neither does my husband, and this lotion definitely is unscented. I also like that it is rather economical given the 12 ounce sized bottle. That tends to last me most of the winter.

I have come back to the unscented version of this over and over again for about 15 years now. It's just perfect. Great ingredients, with lots of anti-inflammatory and antioxidant botanicals, great oils, and no synthetics nor perfume. I scent mine with my own perfume because I'm like that and it beats spending $50 on half as much perfumed lotion from the line I use. The pump bottle is very convenient (if very plain) and this is a great, highly affordable lotion that can be used on your face too with great success. The ingredients are that gentle and beneficial. It's never ever broken me out. It's just ultimately soothing and hydrating without being greasy or oily.

This is regarding the Unscented version.
Wonderful medium moisturization, not greasy but not 'light' and no silicone or petroleum.
No smell really, but helps perfume to last longer when I use it.
Works great on my daughter who has excema too.
Completely non-irritating as far as I can tell.

Might not be enough moisture if you are seriously dry, but great for right-out-of-the-shower to seal in moisture.

Very highly recommended. The liter bottle is affordable and has a pump top, convenient.

This is the best body lotion that I've ever used and I'm surprised that it isn't reviewed more frequently. I use the unscented version and it absorbs quickly and doesn't feel greasy at all. I've also found that it helps my keratosis pilaris on my upper arms, while other lotions have irritated the affected skin and created more bumps. I have no complaints with this lotion whatsoever, except maybe that it's quite expensive. I'll keep using it as long as it's still made.

Ive been using this product for almost a year after a friend of mine turned me on to it. Its great! I prefer the scented one, it leaves your skin so silky smooth, and its not greasy. I purchase mine from a website called iherb, they have pretty good prices.

I really like this is a body moisturizer during wintertime (think it might be too heavy for summer). Great especially for problem spots like my elbows and legs. Seems like the scent is either hit or miss for people, but I like it...reminds me of honeysuckle, but not over powering.

I've been using this lotion for about a year now - I've used both the Scented and Unscented versions and I don't mind the Scented version - I use it both on my body and my face and I just love it; It's very gentle, effective and goes on so smoothly and dries quickly. The smell can be a bit strong but I really enjoy it; This is my favorite body-lotion and I don't need to try anything else! :)

This is a fantastic daily staple for me, and I've been using for years. Like others, I've found that the cheapest way to purchase this is the liter containers from Whole Foods, although I've also seen this lotion at Target for a few dollars more. I buy the original, scented, very emollient version and love how well it moisturizes my skin without any petroleum or mineral oil in the ingredients list. There's a very slight scent that doesn't bother me or irritate my skin, which tends to be dry but fairly resilient. Those who are more sensitive might need the unscented version. Overall I love Alba Botanica and Avalon Organics body lotions in all their incarnations and scents, and I recommend this product highly.

I use this lotion every single day. I absolutely love it! It's lightweight and absorbs quickly into the skin. This lotion is perfect for smoothing on your entire body after a bath or shower. It's great as a daily lotion, but it isn't what I use for heavy duty moisturizing. I have body butters for that. From Whole Foods I buy a 32 oz pump bottle for about $15 and it lasts me two months.

Update 10/16/2011: I ordered a second bottle of this from vitacost and ended up w/ a different kind. It is the original unscented version, and I like it much better than the other versions. It's thicker than the last one I had so it moisturizes good but it's still thin enough to spread easily and sink in quickly. This has become a regular in my body lotion rotation, I reach for this often. I wouldn't pay the premium prices for the small bottles I see at walmart, I usually order a couple bottles from vitacost and save a lot of money that way.

This is an okay moisturizer. I like that it has anitoxidants and is unscented. But, I like other natural lotions more, like Jason's 70% aloe all-over body lotion.

Dont let the "very emollient" scare you into thinking its a heavy and greasy lotion. Yes it IS very moisturizing like it says but its so light weight on the skin and absorbs in very fast. My skin is SO soft and smooth after i use it. Love it but the only thing i hate is that it seems to go fast.
