I've used manic panic vampire red for 2 yrs now, and I still love the color especially in the sun, it's beautiful. I have naturally dark brown hair and I wanted to try something new, but didn't wanna bleach or damage my hair to much. When I dyed my hair I left it in over night hoping to achieve the best color. After rinsing and all I thought the color was a purple till I went outside and saw the beautiful deep red shade, I touch up every 4 months when I turn a slightly dark fushia/magenta.
I do love this product and in this color I've bleached my little sisters hair and used this color for her she loves it too.
The only issue I have is the bleeding and staining factor, my tub turns red with every dye I do and I have to break out the comet. I've ruined countless towels (black ones at that) a few t shirts and pillows, but beauty has it's draw backs too.
I do plan on continuing to keep my color and $9.99 at sallys beauty supply isn't so bad but I stock up around Halloween from party city when they are on sale for 5 dollars.

I absolutely love, love, love this hair product. To the color is gives me, to the fact it's animal testing free. I love the red is pink based not orange, that its a darker more magenta red & it never damages my hair, actually it leaves it feeling great. i even used it on my hair extensions, amazingly even on my hair extensions which are of course a different type of hair than my own I got the same color I always get compliments on my color. I wouldn't know if it fades quickly or not for I do wash my hair as little as possible & I color every two weeks. My only complain is the color literally stains everything & anything though it easily comes out with a good hit of Shoot & a wash or two. & when my hair is wet the color it will "leak" everywhere. Other than that I really really wish Manic Panic made permeant hair dye, oh well. Still love this product.

I work at hot topic and we carry manic panic and raw hairdye. I usually prefer the raw because its more vibrant and lasts longer but we were sold out of red so I thought I'd give the vampire red a shot. I just died my platinum blonde hair a dark burgundy three days ago and it turned out a dark purple/fuschia color. It was pretty but i have warm skin so it was very unflattering to have such a cool red and I also wanted something more vibrant. So, I bought the vampire red and put it over my burgundy hair yesterday and VOILA. It added such a beautiful hue and was crazy vibrant! I only left it on for 25 minutes and it worked like a charm. My only complaint is after dying I rinsed my hair for a good 30 minutes and couldn't get the water to run clear and my two showers since it's still bleeding, but oh well! The best thing is it doesn't leave your hair damaged at all:) Look under my photos to see the results.

"Vampire Red" is one of my go-to hair colors. I'm naturally a very dark brown, so even with no lightening it comes out a lovely dark red wine shade, and if I do lighten it pops to a near firetruck red.

I used this color to dye my hair for part of a Halloween costume. I dyed over my dark brown hair and was pleasantly surprised at how vibrant it came out. It looks different colors in different lights - in sunlight it looks like a bright, true red; in low light, it's a dark merlot; in some fluorescent lighting it looks almost fuchsia (which I'm not super fond of, but whatever). After dyeing it, my hair was in great condition, not dry or brittle like it would be with some permanent dyes.
The reason I gave this product a 3 is because of the overall inconvenience that goes along with using it. First of all, it comes in a little tub and you have to scoop it out to put it on your hair. This can be extremely messy and will stain your sinks and floors if you're not careful. Then, you have to leave it on for a LONG time (I did 2 hours, but I know some people recommend overnight). Bleeding is also a horrible problem with this product. Every time I take a shower it looks like I've murdered someone in there because of all the red dye that comes out. My fingernails are also stained from washing my hair. I've tried using cool water to rinse my hair to prevent bleeding, but A) it didn't work, and B) who wants to take cold showers in October (I suppose you could wash your hair in the sink, but again, inconvenient). Then, as I take my showers at night, I have to blow dry my hair to avoid ruining my pillowcases and sheets from all the bleeding (I've already ruined a towel). Again, this is very inconvenient, especially since I don't get home from class until 9PM most nights.
In conclusion, I would not purchase this product again. Maybe when I was younger and had more time for my hair, I would have enjoyed this, but all the extra steps that go along with using this dye are just not worth the trouble, despite the gorgeous color it gives.
UPDATE: Not changing my rating, but I just wanted to say that this color continued to bleed from my hair into late December (I dyed it in mid-October). Every night the water in my shower would turn pink from this stuff bleeding. Such a pain to deal with.

I like Manic Panic dyes generally, they always add a really vibrant color to your hair and it fades out into a shade that isn't too cringe-worthy.
I think shades like this look nice on dark hair, as well. I don't like to bleach my hair, as my scalp is very sensitive and will burn upon contact of the stuff x_x It gives a gorgeous sheen.
Not keen on the bleeding though.

Vampire Red is hands down my favourite colour I've tried from Manic Panic. The colour is great and it seems to be super pigmented - some of their other colours I've tried, even the dark ones which you would expect to be super pigmented, have not turned out nearly as deep or vibrant as Vampire Red. As with all non-permanent dyes, I try to keep the colour on my hair as long as I can stand before rinsing it out, so usually 2-3 hours, to get the deepest colour I can and hopefully longer lasting result. I know some people sleep with it in, but I wouldn't be able to stand that.
I've used this colour both in the regular and the Amplified formula and had great results with both. With the regular formula I bleached the bottom half of my hair to a light blonde, and did the Vampire Red on top. It turned out a great bright red, like fire engine red.
But my favourite results with this colour have been over darker hair - I use the amplified formula between permanent colourings to give the colour a boost and keep from damaging my hair too much from doing permanent colour too often. The results are always fantastic - ranging from cherry red to burgundy with purple tones, depending on the starting shade/colour of my hair. I always get tons of compliments on my red hair when I do this. Also, if you bleach in some highlights before doing the Vampire Red you get a great multi-tonal look.
I've also used the amplified Vampire Red to cover up hair mistakes - I had dark brown hair and decided to put a dark blue streak in my hair. The blue did not stick at all and I was left with a patchy pale green streak. I was too fed up over the failed dye job to try redoing it, and instead used Vampire Red on my whole head. It turned the dark parts deep burgundy and the failed streak turned a nice deep red (and this was without bleaching out the green first... I just put the red right on top). So I love this colour for the fact that it turned a disaster into something amazing.

PERFECT RED!
The longevity isn't that great, but otherwise it's a perfect red. It even fades to a pretty color. 10/10 I completely recommend!

I have very dark hair and medium skin with dark brown eyes. I originally used Vampire Red all over my head (my tips were bleached) and I loved it! It was a nice dark red. But since my hair was so dark, it really only showed in sunlight. My tips were more vibrant, and I absolutely LOVED the color it had. It does stain the skin and anything else, but I used Olay Face Toner to get rid of most of it. After this experience I've decided to bleach my whole head and dye it! It's such a wonderful color! :)

I just dyed my naturally medium-dark brown hair with this product and i absolutely love the results! After researching hair dyes for a couple years I finally decided on the Vampire Red formula of Manic Panic which was reccomended to me by one of my friends who dyes her hair frequently.I didn't want to damage my hair plus wanted it to be purely temporary so I didn't bleach my hair. However, I washed with a common brand of anti-dandruff shampoo for a good week before to make my hair drier and more porous so when I put the dye on it would stick better. I didn't have a tint brush (like the package says to use) so my mother and I used gloved hands and an old paintbrush to apply the dye to my semi-dry hair. It was really hard to not get it on my scalp since my hair is pretty short but we managed to keep it mostly contained. Vasalene on the hairline and neck helped a lot too. I wrapped it in saran wrap and sat around for about two hours before rinsing with really cold water, vinegar, then water again plus some conditioner at the end. I absolutely LOVE the results! It's not quite "blood red" depending on the light but it reminds me of Sharon Osbourne's hair color. It is quite dark but can look a little pink depending on the light source. Of course as everyone seems to say it stained most things. I managed to get a spot in our sink that hasn't come out yet but suprisingly my tub has emerged relatively unscathed. Toothpaste can help fade skin stains which do happen quite a bit. They don't go completely away but they're not as bright pink. Overall a very good product that I would love to use again and might since I only used a little bit of the jar. ^_^

I dyed my naturally medium-dark brown hair with this hair dye. I couldn't be more pleased with the result! It made my hair the color of the skin of a black cherry! Burgundy!
Yes, this product does stain EVERYTHING during the dye process AND the first couple times you wash and dry your hair. I stained many a towel, hairbrush and the back of a few old tshirts.
It's been over a month and my hair still has a gorgeous burgundy hue, not as brilliant but because I have been washing it with cold water every 3rd day, it's lasted longer than I expected.
I bought the kind in the jar and I wish the type in the squeeze bottle was available at my Sally's because I feel like it would have made less mess. But for $8.99, I can't complain!
Message me for details of my process, if you're interested!

I bought Manic Panic hairdye in Pillarbox Red and I couldn't be happier. I didn't have to bleach my hair first at all and it came out a shade or two darker than the original color. It stains everything which can be a problem if you don't know how to handle it. The color stays in rather well and it dulls to an auburn color on my hair. I've already used this product twice and I'll probably use it again :)

I really love the look of deep red hair. I've been dying my hair red for five years now & it's always been kind of difficult to find a good deep red shade. I used Manic Panic's Amplified formula in Vampire Red, over my non-bleached dark auburn-brown hair, & I left it on for 12 hours. The great thing about this dye is that it's completely chemical free, so you can leave it on, & touch it up as much as you want, without it harming your hair. The longer you leave it, the longer the color will last. My only complaint about this product is that it makes an incredible mess! It stains like crazy, but if you bleach your tub afterwards, everything goes back to normal. I definitely recommend using Vaseline on your ears & hairline to prevent stained skin. Though this product creates a mess, if you use proper precaution, you should be fine. The color outcome definitely outshines the mess! It made my hair a beautiful blood red! I posted a picture, (girls back of head in bun, smelling a rose). I am very impressed with the color, & it doesn't seem to fade easy on my non-bleached, dark auburn-brown hair. (A great tip for a quick color-refresher is to add the dye into your conditioner and let it sit for a while. It really helps a ton if you have hair that fades quickly. ALSO, rinsing your hair in equal parts white vinegar & water helps to raise the pH level, making the color last longer.) Love this stuff.

I have unnaturally dyed magenta-red hair. As you know, red hair DOES FADE EASILY. I decided to go out to Sally's to buy this product and use it as a non-damaging way to maintain the color I have. Vampire red has pink and purple undertones, and that's what the magenta color I have my hair dyed on is like. It is semi-permanent, and I've used their product before but on bleached hair for bottom streaks. It lasted longer than expected before, but this was just an awful mess, well only when you do have to wash it. It bleeds SO MUCH and stains everything after taking a shower. I tend to use sulfate-free shampoos and conditioners when washing it though. When I did dye it, I mix in a color protein filler in red, which is something to prevent the bleeding, but I guess it just didn't work with Manic Panic. But the good thing about is it's a gorgeous and absolutely beautiful color on unnatural redheads! I will probably continue to use this just for the heck of maintaining my color and might start using it to mix with my shampoos/conditioners. I'm just afraid when it rains or when I'm in the pool and it drips and stains on everything!!

This is my first temporary hairdye, I got it to keep my permanently dyed hair refreshed in between dyings. My hair is naturally black/dark brown (I'm Asian), and I dyed it with Garnier Nutrisse R2, so it's dark red/purple. I use Vampire Red mixed with some conditioner for hair that's dyed red (1:1) ratio, and every other time I shower I use it as conditioner, leave it in for around 5 minutes while I shave or exfoliate my body, and then rinse. It really helps keep my hair vibrantly red and I like it because it's a deep red with purple hues to it. Saves a lot of money and doesn't damage my hair!
Cons: It does stain...everything. But I find it mixed with conditioner it's a little easier to work with, just use bleach to clean your bathtub floor...and use gloves or your hands will look bloody.

I've dyed my hair many many shades of red and this is my very favorite! This time I bleached my hair lighter (to about mid/light orange) then used this colour and it was a very stunning dark cherry red. I definitely recommend exercising caution when using manic panic dyes in your bathroom as they stain things easily. I've been using their dyes for so long now that I know what to do and don't have a problem with this.

I put this over medium auburn red hair and I got an awesome, vibrant red. It wasn't quite as bright as the brighter red photos above, but it was a lot brighter than the dark version. I left it on for several hours, and it seems to last pretty well. I do have to touch up every so often, but since Manic Panic is natural and plant-based, you can put it on your hair as much as you like. I get SO many compliments on my hair, it's insane. All thanks to Manic Panic.

I have medium to dark auburn hair that I color with a perm color to be that color and wanted to amp it up for fall and winter !!!! I wanted a semi perm hair color in a mega rich red to bump my color to the next level but did not want to commit to perm dye so manic panic I thought was my answer........I brought it home and jump right in ! PLEASE USE EXTREME CAUTION vampire red does stain everything so do the color in the basement or garage :) or like me in the front yard at 8:00 at night with the spot light on :) I left the color on for 1 hour and had to do the first rinse with the hose in the front yard (good thing I live in a very private wooded area) the color does not rinse out very easily so after the "pre" rinse in the yard I went in the house with a towel on my head and proceded to shower with warm water - I used a sulfate free shampoo and conditoner......the color would not rinse out..... the water will never run clear ......so I gave up and had pink drips running all over me :( I sprayed my shower with bleach water to remove the pink stains and most of it came off but I will have to scrub with comet tomorrow! this is now day two and my hair is looking shiny and dark auburn with VERY VERY pinky red highlights ! my roots came out a little lighter and brighter so I am putting a deep conditioner from the middle of my hair down to the ends to "pull" some of the dye out to get everything to match up ! my final verdict is I like the color in the container and in my hair but the mess is crazy ......there has to be a better way !!!!!! I will try a different product next time around .......but I am glad I tried it :)

In my top five favorite Manic Panic colors, definitely (for reds, Rock N Roll Red beats this one). This is for when you want something bright but just a little bit more tame. It shows up crimson on my bleached hair.
I like Manic Panic's reds. I think they have great staying power in my hair, and I don't know why so many people complain about them.

I was skeptical using Manic Panic for the first time because of how fast it supposedly washes out, which it does.
But the color is AMAZING. As long as you take care of it, you'll be able to keep this color! I've had it a bright red for about 3 weeks similar to when I first dyed it. I always get compliments.
But that's because of my strict hair regimen.
1. LOTS OF DRY SHAMPOO.
2. When wash hair, put some dye in shampoo and conditioner.
3. When I condition I comb the dye in with it, wrap it up in a shower cap and leave it in for a while. Since it acts like a conditioner, NO damaging! Hair comes out bright & gorgeous.
4. COLD WATER. Or lukewarm if you can't handle it.
5. When I bought Vampire Red they only had 1 in stock so when I do wash my hair I use Wildfire, but it still looks like Vampire red. :)
6. I use a color leave in spray after along with a keratin treatment to keep my hair smooth even after the bleachage.
My complaints-
DRIPPY.
1. Everytime I shower, it's ALL over. Running down my boobies to my back to my feet JUST EVERYWHERE.
Makes me scared to go swimming in the summer when it comes back around!
2. Stains. I've gotten most of my stains out of my skin and tub within a week or 2 but it could be hard for others.
