Beauty doesn't come cheap.
And ExfoliKate is a prime example!

I was shocked, no, flabbergasted when I saw the price for ExfoliKate. Holy crap, $85 for THIS? Now mind you, I'm a product, name brand junkie. I don't usually base my decisions on price but quality. But this threw me for a curve. I had bad combo skin: dryness, flakes, some oil and breakouts, and some oil where there were flakes. My skin can't figure itself out. I was looking for a good exfloiator that wouldn't clog my pores and that would help alleviate some of my problems. The very helpful Sephora guy took me straight to ExfoliKate. He knew I was shocked by the sticker price so the wonderful man gave me a heaping sample which I got about 4 uses out of.
Holy glowing skin, Batman! I'm amazed. This. Stuff. WORKS. First reaction when applying it was probably like most people's: "umm...my face is burning", BUT a good burn. For me it was more of a tingly sensation, like when you use a tanner with a "blush" or warmer in it; It feels warm but you know it's working. I slough it around my face for a few seconds and just let it do its magic for the remaining minute or so. If you have more sensitive skin, I'd say only let it sit on your skin for 30 seconds max. ExfoliKate uses natural extracts to "eat" away at the dead skin, so you want to be careful when you first use it. Afterwards my skin is in the best condition its ever been. Like EVER. Smooth, more even skin tone, even texture and even overall. I'm less oily, less dry, and more "normal".
What I love the most is that Sephora makes ExfoliKate in a travel size that's just $19! Now you're talking! It will last me about 2 months if I use it 1-2 times a week. Not bad! If you're hesitant about buying this, just do it. It will change your skin and your life!!

I never buy something as expensive as ExfoliKate without sampling it first and I'm glad I have that personal policy bcus I would've been $85+ poorer (with mediocre results) without it. I got a sample from Sephora and it lasted through three applications.

First of all, I have very resistant skin that has what I observed to be very quick cell-turnover. I have to exfoliate with a chemical (AHA, especially) three times a week or substitute that with twice-daily Clarisonic uses. My skin isn't easily irritated and not problematic except that it flakes SO MUCH thanks to the turnover rate and I have blackheads if I don't actively eliminate them.

Really, you don't need much more than a thin layer that's substantial enough to rub over your skin and move around a bit. The first time I tried this I had not exfoliated in about 3 weeks which is very upsetting for my skin. I had so many flakes and hadn't had time to wash my face deeply much less take a minute to swab some Liquid Gold on every night. It so happened that I had to travel and get my skin into tip-top shape. I took my sample out and used it the night before and I have to say it actually stung and irritated my skin. This is very very strange for me bcus I've had very high concentrations of glycolic acid with the tiniest pinch and then it's gone. This made my face itch and sting and prick the entire time! I figured the pain was indicative of the wonderful exfoliation that was going on. I washed this off and used cool water to soothe my skin. I have to say, it worked well. The best thing about the experience (that I repeated twice later) is that it's very intense. That being said, it didn't seem to make me glow. I don't know if that's because it did some minute damage to my skin that dulled me in general. This is great for travel because it gives you instant results in terms of flakes and comes in a hygienic tube. But, it doesn't give me that illumination that other chemical exfoliants give. That being said, it's also WAY too expensive for what you get. If you can just focus on using a drugstore AHA twice a week you'd have better results and less painful ones. I can see this product being terrible for sensitive girls so do a test patch regardless of your skin type!

PROs:
-Don't need much
-Removes dead skin very well
-Physical and chemical exfoliation (so you can have some control over how much to scrub vs how long to leave the product on.)
-Hygienic tube packaging
-Great for travel

CONs:
-Way too expensive for results
-Irritant to my resistant skin (could be MUCH worse for more sensitive skins)

I just tried this for the first time and it didn't really sting my dry/combo sensitive skin too much. I left it on for 2 minutes then rinsed and oh man my skin was soft like a babies bottom!
Only downside was right after i brokeout a bit, nothing too bad but i think thats my skin purging, so i only gave it 4 lippies just in case it actually keeps breaking me out. Update soon!

Argh, this stuff is liquid GOLD... SO expensive... WHY?! This is one of those items you just have to pay for... it's just really worth it. Can't live without it ever since I first tried it 2-3 years ago... Skin glows, radiates... It stings a bit but nothing intolerable... Maybe if you have really sensitive skin... I love it. I have to have it. Therefore, I will pay. Damn you, Kate Sommerville! I'm sure she's buying her 3rd Rolls by now :/

I love exfolikate and I believe that this really works. Even though the price is expensive, one tube will last a long time since you should only use this 2-3 times a week, and each time you only need a small amount. Personally, I like the scent and the green color, and the scrub isn't too harsh for my delicate skin. After rinsing it off, I see an immediate difference in my skin - a more refined texture and a glowing complexion.

Great scrub. I was very impressed. It beats the dermalogica skin prep scrub and blows it out of the water. I was impressed by the combination of physical exfoliants (finely ground) and natural enzymes. Usually products contain one or the other. This scrub doubles as an exfoliating mask. It's not quite peel strength, but you'll feel the burn.

BEST face Scrub I ever Tried, PERIOD!!!
THE Only one that ever worked for me and keep its promises.
Worth Every Penny in my opinion because its one of the very rare product on the market that doesn't lie... IT WORKS!!!
I have tons of jars, tubes, bottle of exfoliant seating in my bathroom drawers that I only used once because they don't get the job done, what a waste, I could have buy 3 full size of KS intead!!!
I have been travelling back in force between Vegas, L.A and the Bay area weekly for my work for about 2 month now so my sensitive combination skin started to become dull and highly dehydrated because of the drastic weather changes and pressurized air(plane)
my moisturizers couldn't penetrate the skin anymore, i didn't know what to do or what to try anymore but I needed to take action and fast before a evil first wrinkle shows up.
I was wandering and browsing into Sephora like i love to do on my spare time and bumped into a tester of the Ks exfoliant.
Never heard of KS before but I was appealed by the fact that this scrub is both mecanical and chemical I needed a heavy worker...
l tried it on my hand, scrub, wiped off and holly crap, pure Smoothness!!! I knew I found something amazing!
I immediately purchased a travel friendly tube (2oz), went back to my hotel room to try it on and ... WOW, WOW WOW!!!!
Complexion: even, Pores: vanished, Dullness on my forehead and cheeks: Wiped away to reveal only an amazing fresh glow.
I then applied my face cream and...YES! Score! Victory! my skin absorbed it all and was smooth and radiant as ever!
I know, I know its pricey but this is the only face scrub that worked for me so far without damaging and breaking out my reactive and sensitive skin.
Plus this is the very first product with chemical peel agent that my skin tolerate.
So YES I will purchase it again and again and again...
And I cant wait to try more of Kate's products such as the hydrating serum and the vitamin serum (will ask for a sample first of course, thank you Sephora, Love you!!!)
Today I am a happy girl!

I don't know where others shop for this scrub/mask, but Sephora has a strange pricing scheme. $18 for .5 oz and $85 for 2 oz? And $175 for 5 oz? You come out ahead buying the .5 oz, and only save $5 for spending the $175 on the 5 oz..... either way, that's waaaay too much money.
Loved the product, but we're remodeling right now, so unless it suddenly goes on sale, I'm not buying it again.

Mixed feelings on this one. It is aggressive, which is good and bad. If you have ANY acne at all, be careful. I had one closed (seemingly under-the-skin) blemish on my cheek and thought it wouldn't be a problem, but the Exfolikate somehow got into the pore and burned like heck. Even though the rest of my face was fine afterward, that spot is still really sore. So, the Exfolikate was great for the rest of my face, but I think it actually made the blemish worse. When/if you have clear skin, I think this would be great for dealing with fine lines, discoloration, dullness, etc. I think it is strong enough to make a real difference. But if you have any active issues, I'd steer clear. Despite the problem with the pimple, I'd buy it again and just save it for times when my skin has no breakouts.

I ordered this from QVC the cheapest way I could. I was intrigued by the glowing (pun intended) customer reviews so I had to give it a try. This stuff burns! It reminded me of a product I used long ago from Merle Norman (remember that one??). It was called Miracol and burned just the same. I truly question whether that burning sensation is good for the skin. Inflammation is a bad thing, no? The directions says to put it on your skin for no more than 2 minutes. I could barely last 30 seconds. Truth is, I don't feel that I really need this product. I exfoliate by washing with a cleansing cloth and using retinol products. It's hard for me to gauge whether this is actually benefiting my skin. But when a product costs this much, I expect to be wowed, confident that it's worth every penny. I will stick to St. Ives Apricot Scrub when I feel like a need a little something extra. My vote - save your money.

LOVE LOVE LOVE!!!

I use to use St. Ives as an exfoliate and that smelt great but that will never compare to Kate Sommerville. This product has been, take my word for it....LIFE CHANGING! You can see results after ONE wash and my skin glowsss! I even had friends come up to me asking what products I use because they saw such a great difference in the texture and radiance of my skin.

It does burn a little when you first use it and my skin does get tingly... but in the morning, it will all be worth it! There are enzymes in the formula that lift dead skin cells off the surface of your skin and the fine grains act amazing as an exfoliater. I was hesitant to buy this product because it is a little pricey, but it is worth every penny!!!

This exfoliator is amazing, Each time I use it, it leaves my skin looking brighter and smoother. It looks minty green and it smells nice, hard to describe but it reminds of products a spa would use. On the direction it says to use it 1-2 per week and to rub it for 30 seconds on your face and then leave it on for two minutes. I do follow this but I leave it on usually for 5 minutes because it works better for my skin. Each time I use it, my skin looks great after wards. The only downside to this product is the expensive price.

I first tried Exfolikate because I received a sample of it. As soon as I tried it I knew I couldn't live without it. When I looked it up online I was dismayed by the price but I'm pretty sure this exfoliator is HG status. It makes my skin feel so amazing. Every time I use it (twice a week), it makes my skin feel like the first time I ever used my Clarisonic, which is the best it has ever felt. When the sample ran out I used up an exfoliator I was already using and in the beginning of October I bought the little .5 oz bottle, and then I bought another little .5 oz. bottle during the Sephora VIB sale despite my first bottle not being used up yet. I love Exfolikate and I will continue to use it unless I somehow find something I like better, which I don't foresee happening.

I use several exfoliators and for me this product is the gold standard. I leave it on for a couple of minutes and when I start to feel it getting hot I rinse it off to find the most glowing skin. I use it about once in three days and the other days i use the Dr. Gross alpha-beta skin pads. I can't speak for how Exfolikate would work on acne-prone skin but I can say that it is one of my favorite products ever. Keep in mind that if you buy it at Sephora and it doesn't work for you, you may return it as long as you are a member or have your receipt.

I only have this in sample so I really can't comment on the package.

I thought this was a miracle when I first tried it and stocked up on samples (thanks cool Sephora girl!) It doesn't irritate me and I DO like the way I feel after. HOWEVER. I found out all I really need is salicylic acid (Olay Total Effects Blemish Control wash is doing it for me) and to NEVER use Niacinamide (found out it breaks me out like crazy). So while I like it, I'm so not interested in shelling out $80 and glad I didn't!

I got this in a sample kit. I think it's a nice exfoliator, just not worth the price. It makes the skin feel pretty smooth and clean. That's about it. I didn't really see a change in my acne. I don't think that it's left on the skin long enough to make that much of a difference. The beads in the product are nice and soft, and don't hurt when you rub them around your skin.

This product does what it claims, but the price is exorbitant and better alternatives exist for a fraction of the price. I purchased a measly half ounce for $20. I'm glad I didn't get talking into buying two ounces for $150. Like I said, it does what it promises, offering mild brightening and smoothing.

I strongly prefer MUAC peels to this. I recently splurged and bought an 8% TCA, Radiance, and Mandelic acid peels for around $40 for the lot. They'll easily last me a year between the three and the results are absolutely fantastic. After a couple uses I can already see scarring fading and pore tightening.

I don't understand the hype, but I also don't understand [all of] the hate for this product. This will not be able to get rid of acne or make any significant dents in my little list of skin woes, but it has improved the appearance of my skin. I have no issues with glycolic acid, but my skin is somewhat sensitive. My face is slightly pink after using this, but it gives me that tight-pore, just-worked-out-and-then-scrubbed-my-face glow. My skin doesn't feel stripped; in fact, it feels oddly moisturized. I made the mistake of trusting that feeling once before, skipped putting a moisturizer on afterward, and woke up with slightly ruddy skin. If you use as directed (and modify slightly if you have sensitive skin), you won't be amazed, but you will notice a moderate increase in clarity and texture. You just get the feeling that there are loads of cheaper alternatives and that there might be a product out there that's better for you. If you can afford it, get the the .5 oz size but don't stop the quest for the perfect exfoliator. This one probably isn't it unless you already have near-flawless, non-sensitive skin.

The SA at Sephora who did my makeup gave me several sample packets of Exfolikate and I was so excited to try this product, given that it has a really special status as a unique, unbeatable, "gold standard" exfoliator. I followed the instructions to the letter and I've used it a few times now and have to say that, really, it's a fairly run of the mill product. I didn't experience results that were significantly different than when I use my Laura Mercier facial scrub, Dermalogica Microfoliant, or any good cleanser with my Buf Puf; immediate results were somewhat better but I don't know that' it's enough to justify the insane price. It does leave my skin feeling sort of plumped up if I leave it on for the 2 minutes recommended but that is a fairly transitory effect. If it weren't quite so pricey, I'd probably buy it but, pricewise, especially in Canada, it is just a bit too steep for me to purchase.

UPDATE: Vasanti, a small Canadian cosmetics company, makes a wonderful facial exfoliator that is every bit as good as ExfoliKate and at a fraction of the price. Brighten Up Enzymatic Facial Exfoliator costs $34 CDN for over 4 ounces and it is such an amazing product that works at least as well as ExfoliKate, if not better. Some Shopper's Drug Mart stores carry this line and Vasanti's website has a store locator feature so you can try to find this near you.

Wow what a rip off!!! $103 CDN for a 2 oz tube!! I had to try it seeing as there were so many positive reviews of it online. It didn't last me very long. I used it 2-3 times per week. More than recommended but whatever...my skin isn't sensitive to glycolic acid anyway. There is a flushing burning sensation which is normal with these kinds of products. It smells like nothing so that's great. It's a thick green paste so many times I'll see it on my shower walls because I don't get all of the product on my face. What a waste. For the effectiveness I can't say I saw a huge difference in texture. I use Amorepacific exfoliator and it contains papain enzymes and I feel more of a difference with that than with Exfolikate. I'm not impressed with this product overall as it didn't deliver what a $103 product should in my opinion. Oh well, I tried it and that's now off my list of products to try.
