This is red with some real wow. I just got it today, ordered from beautycrunch.com at a nice discount. I ran to greet the UPS guy and ripped open the box for my goodies.
I think of this lipstick like a little black dress. I probably won't wear it often, but I must have it in my stash.
On first ap, it was a little dry and very intense. I have a hard time with reds because they always tend to turn a bit magenta on me. So far, so good with this one. ... (I'm still wanting to try Esme.)
It blots nicely for a matte look. For a more wearable look, i blot and put on a bit of Stila Red Apple.
This is a lovely, lovely, feminine, true retro red color.

If you're looking for the quintessential retro red lipstick, then look no further (actually you might have to look quite hard as this one has been discontinued). Salome is a neutral toned red lipstick (leaning slightly towards a blue base, which helps to make my teeth look whiter). Very wearable, stays put well, and is a real va-va-voom red.
Although discontinued, Strawberrynet currently have it, albeit in the old cardboard packaging. I got mine in the aluminum tube off Ebay. The closest dupe in the current range would be Dominique, but it's not as bright a red.

This is a sheer almost gloss-like, pinkish-fuschia red that was too pink for me.

Stila's lipsticks encased in cardboard should either be much, much cheaper or changed to metal or plastic.

I own lipsticks in various shades of red, but my two valentine lippies in salome and delilah are by far the brightest I have. Salome is a neutral true red with beautiful shimmery finish that makes your lips look full. Delilah is a bit creamier, not really matte, but not as shiny as salome. It's just the slightest bit blueish based. I love the consistency of both of these, the red packaging looks cute, too. If you think of trying these lipsticks you must be a red-lover -- real red, true red, SCREAMING red.:)

I have been searching for a true red lipstick for years. Most true red lipsticks fushia on me. Not Stila's Salome. It is absolutely stunning on! It is perfect paired w/ Stila's #13 liner.
