Simply the only lip balm they works for me! I have had very dry, chapped lips since childhood; no amount of water drinking, healthy oil eating or supplementation has helped. So I've tried more than my fair share of lip balms over the years in the attempt to remedy the situation. Some that I have tried: La Mer, Sisley, By Terry, Nuxe, Fresh Sugar, Carmex, Blistex, Lanisoh, Aquaphor, Vaseline, among many others. Most lip balms actually end up leaving my lips in worse condition, I have to apply them robotically every ten minutes or my lips are a mess, like someone who's been stranded in the desert for three days with no water. With Karite Lips, I only need to apply a few times a day and once before bed and I have the lips of a normal person! Very highly recommended!

I had preferred EOS vanilla balm to this. While I love the ingredients and in theory this balm should be HG, the things I disliked about it are as follows:

1. NO slip! really waxy (even though wax is on the bottom of the list). Even $3 Dr.Bronners provides better slip and moisturization.

2. For such "immense" moisturizers like they claim, where's the moisture? My lips weren't cracking, but they weren't as soft and supple as they should have been.

3. Ten dollars for a small little stick. Hardly any body sells this, no stores that I've been. A pain in the a** to find and buy and pay shipping for, I'm glad I didn't care for it.

This product deserves 3.5 stars, because it was better than Ren's $18 balm.

For those of you who claim it is HG, how many balms exactly did you try to come to that conclusion? There is far better to be had.

This is my HG for soft, moisturized lips! It also smells like sugar cookies. I only need to use it a few times a day for soft, chap-free lips all day. I recommend it to everyone I know! I love that the product is actually the full size of the tube, it's not cut off midway or anything that makes you feel like you're getting ripped off. It's a great deal for a great product!

This is my absolute favorite. I buy it whenever I can, but the bin for this at Whole Foods is often empty--crap, sold out again! I agree with another reviewer that it can feel dry when applying, but I think it is because the ingredients are natural. (Have you ever used pure natural shea butter? You sort of have to melt it in your hands first before applying it or else it is crumbly.) This works wonders on my dry lips. I have repurchased maybe a dozen times. ***BTW, since I have recently had difficulty finding this at the local store, I have had to order it online. Even though the company is Canadian, the shipping was only $5.50 for an order containing a few items. www.modedevie.com. Also, I tried the Cappuccino and Xpresso flavors from the same line. They have different ingredients and I thought the flavors were strong and horrible. Blick.

This lip balm has amazing ingredients in it. Smells wonderful and feels really nice on my lips. The only thing I don't like about this lip balm is if feels a little dry when first putting it on, like it takes the stick a little bit to warm up. Also, my packing broke:( I can look past these because of the amazing lip ingredients.

EDIT 2/1/13: In response to a review written about "those who claim this is your HG, how many have you tried?" I've tried tons. I love Bronner's lip balm too, but none moisturize MY lips like Karite Lips does. We're all different. As we say on MUA: YMMV, no reason to be rude. 3 Years later and this is *still* my HG. I've purchased many, many different lip balms ranging in price since writing this review, and this one still prevails for me.

wow wow and wow. I've been a burt's bees lip balm junkie for years and years...since I first tried it when I was 13 or so. I bought Karite Lips as a splurge at the organic store in the checkout line. I am SO glad that I finally stepped out of my burt's boundaries! Yeah, it's expensive, but like others said it's still cheaper than some fancy pants natural brands. It is so worth $8. It lasts all night. Lasts all day. Smells divine. Makes the lips feel silky smooth. What more could you want?

EDIT 12/13/09: as mentioned below, one of the cons of this product is that it has a gritty texture. I read a couple reviews where people melted theirs in the microwave to fix the roughness...but this did not work for me. Like one other, my tube melted (and I did mine in 10 second increments at half power!) So I have no clue how others were able to get this to work. Personally, I don't mind the gritty texture. It kind of exfoliates my lips and makes them even smoother. Still my HG.

Great lip balm! Keeps my lips soft and chap-free for a long time - no need to constantly reapply. Definitely the best for the <$7 it costs. (Dr Hauschka and Pangea Organics may be equally good but they cost about double.)

I can't imagine a more perfect product. A friend turned me on to this product 10 years ago, and I've never used another lip balm since. It. Is. Perfect. Feels good going on, isn't greasy- is creamy, stays on forever, layers with lipsticks and lip gloss, and the subtle vanilla scent is just right. It is the perfect product. I have tubes stashed everywhere. I even microwave almost-finished tubes and pour the melted balm into another tube, so I can get use every last bit.

The only con I have is one that another reviewer brought up- sometimes the balm has a rough texture. Again, just microwave it (upright) until it's melted, then let it harden again- problem solved. Still, annoying. But it won't stop me from continuing to purchase it.

My name is Shazzer, and I'm a lip balm addict. I have every type (and brand) of lip goop you can think of, and have them stashed in my purse, makeup drawer, desk at work, and the little basket on my coffee table that holds my remotes.

Having said that, I gotta give two snaps up for this product! Texturewise, it's comparable to Caudalie's lip conditioner (at half the price!) and I love the subtle scent of vanilla. Would I buy this again? Yes!

I have been using this product for years! I used to be addicted to Blistex big time, and this was the one and only product that got me off of it permanently. I like it because it is thick enough to stay on my lips (not too slippery) but still has a nice sheen to it. It moisturizes my lips and heals and protects them. It has natural ingredients, where you can actually feel good putting it on. I have one in my purse, jacket, car, bathroom, etc...You can get it at natural food stores such as whole foods.

I was looking for something thats not real shiny to wear as a night time treat and this makes my lips so soft! The smell is a faint vanilla scent and it does not taste like you're eating chemicals! The stick is a problem if you wind it too far up ,so i just put it in a tiny jar.

This is about my fourth or fifth tube of this lip balm. It has an unobtrusive scent and no discernable flavor (yay). It has great slip and lasts a long time. It doesn't get cakey on my lips. It seems to really moisturize my lips and they feel healthy.

My only qualm with this product is that it can vary greatly from one stick to another--- and you should really swipe it on your hand before you buy it to make sure you don't get a dried out one with no slip.

Aside from that, there is sometimes a problem with the swivel mechanism-- often it will swivel up and then not want to be screwed back down. Pain in the butt. But for the price, I just buy another.

I notice that they are now coming shrink-wrapped, so you can't test them before you buy them. I like to think this keeps them from being dried out-- I haven't encountered a dried out one since they started shrink wrapping the product.

This is my current HG lip balm-- and I've tried them all from Fresh to Labello to you name it.

ADDING TO REVIEW: Please be careful when microwaving the product-- I microwaved for 60 seconds and melted the container. Probably I should have gone for 30 seconds.

ADDING TO REVIEW AGAIN: Years later and this is still my HG lip balm. They have CHANGED THE PACKAGING. Still the same amount of product, but it's now in a regular chapstick-style lip balm tube. I think this is probably an improvement over the former quirky packaging. GREAT product!!!

My HG of lip balms! This is the only one I can apply at night and wake up in the morning with SOFT, peel-free lips. I like other brands, Dr.Hauschka, La Roche Posay, Avene, and so forth...but, this one is AWESOME! I like to use Aveda Lipsaver in the day b/c it has SPF. But, the softest, most moisturizing, best smelling lip balm ever is the Karite Lips Shea Butter Lip Balm. I have purchased before at Whole Foods, but it can be hard to find. However, you can find it on the wonderful WWW! Your lips will thank you! I think it cost me around $7 and last a really, really, really long time for me. Much more product than other balms I have.

This is one of the best lip products I have ever used (and i've tried just about all of them). It is so rich and feels amazing on the lips. It is the perfect balance of wax and oil so it doesn't feel too waxy or too thin. It adds a little shine and is extremely moisturizing. The smell is light and pleasant (basically a shea butter smell). The ingredients are all wonderful and the tube is well designed. This works better than any other natural lip product I have used. I will definitely be buying it again. I also like to use it under the eyes and on eyelashes as a deep moisture treatment before bed on occasion.

I absolutely LOVE this! It would totally be my new HG lip balm, if only I could find it again! I bought it from Whole Foods, but when I went back 2 weeks later to buy more, it was gone :(
This comes in a nice giant stick, so at least it lasts a while.
It was about $6, which is way more than I normally spend on lip balm, but definitely worth it. My lips haven't been even slightly chapped since I started using it!
It smells like vanilla, but it's a natural/mild vanilla smell, not fake or overwhelming at all. And you can definitely layer lipstick or gloss over it, since it's not the waxy kind of lip balm.
So yeah, I'm totally going to find this and order it online - I never thought I'd do that for just a tube of lip balm! That should tell you something about how wonderful it is.

Oooh! Love! Nice, soft, thick, super-moisturizing balm. Hurrah! Smoothes on, stays put, is making my trashed lips feel brand new, bright and shiny. And the smell/taste! Lovely, *natural* vanilla -- not like those other crap chemical-y vanilla lip products, but good, sweet, true vanilla that is very light and doesn't interfere with taste of food/beverage. Price is reasonable (about USD7) and, though I've been hitting it with alarming frequency (out of desperate desire to repeat ultra-smooth application aftermath, rather than a need to do so) it doesn't appear to be going anywhere. It's quite solid, and I suspect its longevity will be respectable. The packaging is ho-hum: quite a large tube, generic-looking text label. But I couldn't care less -- it's nothing short of heaven on my lips at the moment. Will be buying backups and will repurchase repeatedly.

I had forgotten how much I loved this!! My lips are always so chapped and cracked and this is the best for keeping them soft. I usually use unscented balms but this scent is nice and not too strong like some balms. It's the best I've tried, overall.
