I will agree with other reviewers that this is the sheerest and least pigmented of all of the Clinique brush-on cream liners (i have all 4) and as a liner I would not repurchase it. HOWEVER, if you have already purchased it, all is not lost because it makes a lovely cream eyeshadow! I apply it just like any other cream shadow and the sheerness, combined with the neutral taupe color make for a very natural and pretty look that for me lasts all day without budging (i have very oily eyelids but use MAC painterly paint pot as an eye lid primer). It also looks great with the Clinique brush-on liner in either dark brown or black used as a liner. So, before you return it, swap it, or throw it away try it as an eyeshadow and see how beautiful it can be used in an alternative way.

Purshased this last week hoping it would finally be the one! Sadly, no! The quality is worst than Maybeline. The color is perfect but stays on intact barely 1 hour for me. I smudges is a weird way. I have to apply more after curling my lashes because the lash curler lifts it up. Realy the worst so far. On to the next...

I was so sad when Palladio discontinued their taupe liner, it was the best shade on me! (me - nc25, blonde hair, blue eyes) I have been looking for a taupe liner ever since. I have tried grays and browns but they just aren't as flattering on me. Then, as I was hopelessly perusing reviews, I saw people referring to this "smoke grey" as a taupe color. I immediately went out and purchased it. LOVE! This goes on easily, lasts forever, and is a perfect taupe! I love the color even more than my old fav! I definitely recommend!

This eyeliner is really poor quality, which is a shame as the colour is so lovely. As others have noted, it is very sheer and takes a few layers of application. Mac, Bobbi Brown and Maybelline all make superior gel liners. I will not repurchase.

This is my first eyeliner since being a teenager! I wanted to try a liquid/cream and chose this, as there is no Mac or Bobbi Brown near me. The SA recommended this color. I had initially wanted to get the brown, however Im glad I chose this. I really like it so far. Your can go light or build. Stays put really well and I have a super moisturising foundation on.

Too sheer - less quality compared to MAC.
Update: it dried out a little and actually works fine. I use it for eyebrows.

I really like this product. I took one lippie off because it isn't opaque upon first swipe. But I love it. It looks more like a perfect neutral taupe brown to me than a grey. It works great on the light neutral makeup days where I want to line with anything that isn't black. I really enjoy Clinique's brush on liners... I just wish they came in more colors.

As other reviewers have mentioned this shade doesn't apply well. The pigment is to sheer when applied and you'll have to go over it a few times to get the color right. This just opens the door for issues of messing up and not have a continuous color all the way across your eye. Shame because I was really looking forward to this. The search for a perfect grey eyeliner continues.

I wanted the dark brown but didn't notice the SA grabbed this until I got home. I tried it anyway as, despite the name, it really looks more brown than grey. I don't like it. It's thin and watery and the color isn't flattering to me skintone or eye color. I took it back and exchanged for the dark brown I wanted all along.

Let me start out by saying that I a SA/MUA for Clinique. I have bought this product twice simply because it wears so very well and the color is a great neutral. Yes, I do agree with other reviews that it does not give a completely opaque line of color on the first application and you must go over it to get it fully opaque, but once you get the hang of it this wears like iron. It does not smudge or move at all. However, it does remove easily with eye makeup remover, without tugging.
The quality is excellent, the price can't be beat at $14.00 for the jar, and it lasts quite a long time. Also, this comes with a small application brush. While most MUA members probably have several eyeliner brushes, I find it nice that Clinique includes one with this product. The color is a taupe brown shade I wouldn't call it a true grey, but it's a great color for someone who finds black too harsh (especially us "cough" more mature *cough* MUAers). Available at Clinique counters everywhere.

I'll start by saying that the other reviews of this product are mostly accurate, the formula is a little thinner than some other gel liners and it can look patchy. However, for me it actually makes this easier to apply because there is some margin of error that you can work with and correct. Not like MAC fluidline where you basically have one shot to get the line right and any mistake is stuck on your lid until you clean it off. I do one pass on the lashline, then come back and dot over any areas that need more product. No big deal.
The color is great, something between brown and grey and a lot more wearable for a daytime look if you have lighter skin (not as harsh as black).
I find that the best way to get this, and other gel liners, to apply is to kinda dip the brush down into it, then use the inside of the lid to wipe the brush on to really get the product worked into the brush so that your first "dot" on the lid isn't a big glob of product.

First of all, the name "Smoke Grey" is inaccurate. This color is more of a taupe brown than anything else. I swear it is almost identical to Paula Begoun's Earthern gel eyeliner, which is described as a medium brown. In order to get any color intensity and definition, I had to retrace my line several times. I am glad that Clinique offers softer shades of cream eyeliner. Bobbi's are so densely pigmented, most appear very dark on me. This shade isn't bad...it's just not grey and it's quite muted. Fine for a low-key daytime look if barely there is what you are after.

first off, I've had this product for more than 2 years, which shows how good shape it still is. second, I like the colour-it's not a boring grey, it has a bit of brown to it and you can even darken it up for a night time look by just adding another coat. this thing is easy to use and it glides on so smoothly. and if you make a mistake, all you gotta do is wipe it off with a q-tip; it's that easy.

I swapped this. Not very pigmented. Too thin of a formula for me. Looked horrible. Didn't stay put. I liked the idea of the color (MAC doesn't have a gray Fluidline) and neither do the drugstore gel/cream liners. Oh well.

This product is reasonable, but it has more cons. than pros! If I even can find a pro!
It doesn't have much pigmentation. Is really annoying when you apply it, because it doesn't show up much. It's a kind of boring color for my eyes, and that may be because of its lack from pigment.
I prefer the BB gel liner, because it's SO much better in many ways. I know that it is more expensive, but is really is so so much better.
I really don't know the price, because I got it from a swap.
I will not buy this product again.
EDIT: You cannot touch your eyes then you are wearing it, 'cause it will come right off!

This product is very easy to use! It's a gorgeous colour for blue eyes since it is more of a taupe grey. I have oily eyelids and my liner usually runs off in the corner by the end of the day but Clinique's cream liners stay put ALL DAY! They last a long time, so they are inexpensive for such a great product with optimal wear. The brush it comes with is a bit tricky to get used to, but you can manage with it, although I use a different liner brush. If you shy away from liquid liners (I know I do), give the cream liners a try because they're great for day or night.

This is a great, understated grey perfect for work or school. The packaging is great, but the brush that came with it was, for me, hard to use(it was too thick to make a thin line). I'll buy this again, but might try other colors for the sake of branching out. I don't think it's an issue though, I've had this for six months and haven't even used a fourth of it. Pricey, but a good value.

I LOVE this product!!! I used to use BB gel eyeliners, but this product works just as good and is a lot less expensive. It lasts just as long on my eyelids, and does not smudge. Also, the product never dries out, unlike the BB gel eyeliners after awhile. The color is AWESOME - a greyish brown - definitely much more unique than your typical brown. There is nothing comparable to this color offered by other brands. I used to use BB gel eyeliner in Granite Ink, but this one is softer and more natural looking, and goes with a lot more colors. It looks GREAT with my blue eyes and light skin. The main eyeshadow I use is MAC's shale, and this looks SO GOOD with it!!!! I HIGHLY recommend this product - I hope they NEVER discontinue it!!!!!!!!!

I love this liner for daytime looks. Its a soft, muted grey with some brownish tones to it. It is fairly pigmented; I didn't have to go over the line more than once. It was the perfect accent to my eyes for daytime without looking like I have a lot of eye makeup on. While the color isn't particularly unique or ground-breaking, I love the staying power! Most cream eyeliners either melt off of my eyelid in a few hours (UD's 24/7 eyeliner and all of the smashbox creme liners) or they last so long that they're an annoyance to take off (the HIP liners, especially the black one). This one had plenty of lasting power on my insanely oily lids without being ridiculously difficult to wash off. I'll definitely be picking up some more of the cream liners. They're a steal for $10 at CCO's and a must for anyone with oily lids!

I love this color! A matte deep taupe/brown.
Works with many color combinations. Glides on effortlessly.
Unfortunately though, after 3 hours of wear this migrates and fades...odd because I have black honey cream liner and it doesn't budge! Must be the consistency of this particular shade.
Returned it and got my money back. If only they had a cream shaper in this color!!!
