I am going to phone the FB company and complain about this product. I REEEAAALLLLY didn't like it. I paid just $12 at Cosmo Prof ( professional beauty supply store) and I feel ripped off. That was the wholesale price, I couldn't imagine how much angrier I would be if i had paid more for this product. After trying FB Flawless and loving it I wanted to find something that would make me darker for summer. I love FB Flawless but it just doesn't give me that nice dark beach queen tan I like for summer time. So I gave Xtreme a shot because on the FB website it says that this is their darkest tan available. First of all.... after you wash the colour guard off you are left with VERY little colour on your skin. I would say that the Flawless colours my skin better then this. The colour guard is very nice and dark looking but as i said before it just washes off in the shower. I decided to try multiple applications several nights in a row to see if this would build into a nice deep colour. It did improve the colour quite a bit but after 4 nights of consistent application I had already gone through HALF of the tube of product. I found that this left some blotchy spots and if I attempted to rub it in reeaaallly well to prevent the spots the product would just roll off of my skin instead of absorbing. It did dry fast... almost too fast to properly apply the colour in time. FYI I made sure to exfoliate really thoroughly and applied a light moisturizer half an hour before application.

I used this for 6 months a few years ago.

I'll just start off by saying, don't buy it, please.

I'll give you reasons why.

- it claims to be really dark and all thohh it is dark it's not a very nice shade and if I'm honest fake bake airbrush is the same colour and the easiest to apply.
- the price is not worth it, it goes on cloggy, dries too quickly and leaves parts untanned.
- if you have dry skin and or patches, this product will make you sure you knw about it by clinging to dry areas, no matter how much you mosturise.
- the texture is too thick and even for someone like me with almost perfect skin, it just will not apply with any ease at all.
- once washed off you're hardly even tanned, considering the disgusting patchy colour you go before washing it you'd expect to at least be dark or "Xtreme" when in fact you're not.
- FAKEBAKE AIRBRUSH AND ST TROPEZ INSTANT GLOW SPRAY ARE THE EASIEST AND BEST FAKE TANS. Honestly, I had to capatilise this as I am sick of people wasting money on products that don't work properly. I have tried every single high end and drug store tan and the hairsrapy type fake tans like Airbrush are the best. No matter what skin type you have these are brilliant and I don't even have to wash mine off before leaving the house, it goes on THAT well.

Ok, so I have used Fake Bake tanning products before. The spray is the best kind in my opinion. Fake Bake Xtreme is extremely dark. Seriously, don't even attempt to use it if you are lightly tan or pale at all. You will look very strange. I already had a good tan going naturally and wanted to deepen it artificially so I bought this. WORST PRODUCT EVER! It comes with gloves to use so your hands don't get "fake tan" on them. After applying it to one leg, the tanning lotion started drying so quickly that it was rolling up on my skin... into little pieces everywhere. The tan application started streaking like crazy. I wasn't sure if it was from the latex gloves I was using or what! I did everything like normal, started with clean skin, lotioned up my knees and elbows. All I can say is the next morning I looked like a mess. A super streaky oompa loompa. DO NOT BUY.

I really didn't like this one from Fake Bake. The color guide is wayyyy too dark, it looks downright muddy and dirty. It takes quite a lot of effort to apply (you must use gloves and really pay attention to how evenly you apply it) and it's absolutely necessary to shower in the morning. Plus it stains the sheets. What a shame, since the final result is quite nice (not orange or fake looking), but its not worth the hassle.

I really like this product! I was so disappointed with the Fake Bake Beyond Bronze tanner that I was dubious about spending more money on a Fake Bake product, but I'd heard good things so I bit the bullet. At £25, you hope it's going to be ok.

Application - you have to work really quick with this tanner, it's a gel. I wouldn't even try and apply it without the mitt as I think it would be too difficult and time consuming - the mitt is defo required! It does go on a bit streaky but this isn't a problem because when you wash it off, you're all over brown. Don't be scared by the black colour guide!
Smell - was odd and strangely potent but this wore off and wasn't too strong after a while, but the fake tan smell was still there as expected.
Length of application and transfer- Left this on overnight as you generally do, did transfer onto my sheets as expected but they washed clean with no staining.
Final tan - so although I love my final colour, I haven't given the product 5 stars because I did have to apply THREE times to achieve it. I wore it overnight first off and when showering in the morning was quite disappointed how much colour guide came off. I did however have a definite glow but it wasn't quite enough for me. Application 2 I did straight after showering off the first lot and left on for 6 hours. Again, a gorgeous bronze, but still not quite enough for me. Again, I applied the third coat straight after showering off the previous, left on for 4 hours and my tan is finally where I want it to be. I don't look orange - I look like I've spent a few days in the Caribbean!

I am a tanning addict, so the one application may be enough for you :)

Horrible product.
Wouldn't recommend to anyone unless you want to waste some money.
Color guide makes you look dirty.
Color payoff is HORRIBLE. Yes it's even, but I've had darker, deeper, results from cheaper products.
I'm afraid to even try to build color with this product by applying another coat...but then again, I can't look any dirtier than I already do with just 1 layer of this crap on.

Horrible product. The color guide on this product is disgusting, it makes you look dirty, not tanned. The product is very drying on the skin, so you end up with a patchy, uneven application. It doesn't give that much color, but at least it's not orange. This stains your clothes and sheets way more than any other self tanner out there. Would not recommend.

The colour guide for this product is extremely dark but when I washed it off I was hardly any darker than before!! Iyt was weird I was prepared to have a really deep brown tan like the guide but nothing!! Really hard to apply but on the plus side I didn't get any streaks! Just not much colour! I slept in this over night and it did stain the sheets but washed out. Good packaging but high price for a product that definately isn't my hg!

Like everyone, I am looking for that holy grail product that delivers everything my little self tanning heart desires...the closest product I've had was the L'Oreal tanning gelee....delivers great color with no color guide, however it is VERY VERY slow to dry and I am an impatient person! :0)

I saw this product on the shelf at Ulta for $28 and thought...okay, let's go high class and get something on another level than the L'Oreal..
Weeelll....it is okay, but definitely level 10 as far as difficulty!

I would not recommend this product for beginners. Here is what you should know...
#1 You must shower/exfoliate
#2 DO NOT put on lotion with any oils. I really wouldn't recommend any lotion at all prior to putting on the tanning cream. Why? The lotion will glob off the black tar tanning lotion you are putting on and make the strangest streaks/globs all over.
#3 Either wear the gloves or be really quick in application. At this point, I get a paper towel and clean off my hands.

I wouldn't plan on sleeping now. The packaging says that it recommends that you use this at night because your body absorbs more color at night (???) I don't think this is correct. It will stain your sheets with the color guide as well. I would put it on when you are at home on a lazy Sunday and have nowhere to be. I thought the colorwas okay, but I've had much better luck with the L'Oreal gel.

Bottom line?
Messy, sticky, hard for anyone but championship tanners and payoff is not as much as desired for $28/bottle!

I have a medium skin tone which looks a little pasty in the winter - I wanted the darkest product I could find to bring back my holiday glow...
I was recommended Xtreme, but as others have mentioned you do all the prep, it transfers all over your tanning clothes/bedsheets, but in the morning when you get out of the shower there's barely any colour change! For the price and claim of 'xtreme' bronzing, I really couldn't recommend it to medium to darker skins, but if you are fair skinned you might find the level of tan enough.

Basically this stuff didnt show up at all on my skin! I already have the original which isnt very dark on me, but I have to say that at least the original shows up a little bit, whereas this version doesnt at all! Very strange considering its meant to be darker. Total waste of money!

This is a great self tanner for those who are fair skinned. This product is a bit more difficult to work in (opposed to the Fake Bake Lotion) but still delivers a subtle, bronze glow. The color goes on extremely dark; it is used as an INDICATOR, not to be confused with end results. The indicator washes off in the shower and what is left is a hint of bronze. When used consecutively, each night, the color will increase.

I love this product;great for concealing vitiligo on the face. Flaws include: staining (so USE GLOVES!) and, because I'm frugal, the price is little high.

A hint for newbies: mix it with a squirt of lotion in your glove, then apply. Wipe off excess color from dry areas (e.g. elbows, knees, ankles) with tissue or cloth.

Gives a nice brown color, but when washed off the
next day the color is gone. No one can tell I have
tanned. I will not buy again, the cheap stuff does a
better job than this.

Compared to the lotion I found that this was not darker when using the exact same amount. If anything, the lotion was darker. It dries so quick and doesn't spread far, so you end up using more. (perhaps giving the illusion of more 'colour pay-off'?)
+ Dries much more quickly (2 min)
+ Practically odourless
- Dries too quickly for easy application, difficult to get an even tan- wouldn't dare risk using on face.

Colour wise, on pale skin, xtreme is slightly more yellow looking than the lotion, which is slightly redder..xtreme has more of a 'golden tan' look to it, whereas the lotion has more of a natural look, if slightly too red. Overall, I prefer the lotion, its easier to apply and gives a marginally more natural tan that is just as dark if using the same amount.

I've used a ton of self tanners and this one is definitely my favorite, I'm on my second bottle and I almost NEVER re-purchase the same product twice of anything.

I was freaked out because of the color guide being so dark and muddy looking - I thought that that was how my tan was going to look so I was pretty apprehensive in the morning to shower off and see how it looked. The color guide is just that - a guide. Don't freak out and over-rub it into your skin, there's no need, I promise. You're going to look muddy and blotchy with it on so just use it at night and sleep on an old sheet like I do. The smell isn't that bad...nothing I would like to go out smelling like, but there has been worse. It dries relatively quickly, so I like that too.

I'm pretty pale but this never made me look orange in the least, it's very natural looking which I love. If I have a date or something that I want to look tanned for, I put it on 3 nights in a row and I'm more than happy with how it looks by day 3. I don't usually put this on my face but when I did it didn't make me break out.

Some advice - make sure that you exfoliate and moisturize before you put this stuff on - put extra lotion on your elbows, knees, feet, and heels. Also, make sure you use rubber gloves when you put it on so that it doesn't stain your hands, because trust me, it will stain your hands very quickly if you don't.

This stuff is terrible. True, it gives a REALLY deep tan, I don't think I've ever used one so dark; even St Tropez doesn't compare. Here is what I like/don't like.
Pros: deep bronze colour, not orange, lasts for several days. Doesn't smell bad. Doesn't contain parabens.
Cons: Really hard to apply evenly a it dries so quickly, even though I exfoliated and moisturised thoroughly. Very streaky result. Messy and transfers onto bed sheets and clothes. Expensive. Takes ages to put on. You need to shower the colour guide off in the morning.

It's really not worth the hassle unless you can be bothered to spend hours each week applying and rinsing off! It's so sad! I'm still on the lookout for a rich, natural tan which is easy to apply, non sticky and doesn't stink! Does this exist??

Let me start by saying, I have RUINED my skin in the sun/tanning beds over the last 15 years. I am now 30 and am seeing the damage on my face in the form of ugly brown spots. My pregnancy is what forced me to stay away from tanning beds, and I went "white" for the first 8 months thinking I'd just blame my hideousness on being pregnant. Then I remembered all the great things I had heard about Fake Bake. But I HATE self tanners!! They STINK and they're ORANGE!!! Every last one that I've tried. I am never happy with them. But I'm desperate. I've been SO white for 8 months now... I feel like a pasty freak.

I ordered the Fake Bake X-treme from Sephora.com (I didn't even see the lotion as an option to buy? I have no idea why). I exfoliated, lotioned up with my regular lotion and then put on gloves to apply. The gel-like consistency is dark- almost black- but if you work it into your skin, it leaves a nice color guide so you know where you've applied and where you've missed a spot. The color goes on slightly green, but this is only the color guide. I waited 6 hours (it dried fast too! No mess on my clothes) and then jumped in the shower and watched the darkness wash down the drain. I am now left with a BEAUTIFUL, natural looking tan with absolutely NO TRACE of orange WHATSOEVER!! It went on even and gorgeous. It looks natural! I don't look like an Oompa Loompa!! My negative opinion about sunless tanners is gone thanks to this product. Will always re-purchase and nothing else.

You want a tan? Something that doesn't turn you orange? Something that doesn't stink? Well Fake Bake is the way to go!

Not to sound like a cheesy advertisement, but Fake Bake is my holy grail for sunless tanning. If you're hesitant to try tanning beds, mystic tans then try out Fake Bake. It's the best sunless tanning lotion I've tried and I've used Neutrogena, Jergens (Which stunk!) and Dove (Wasn't bad since it has a nice scent, but the color wasn't enough for me!) in the past. I've tried Fake Bake's regular tanning lotion before and it gave me wonderful results so I had to try the Xtreme Gel for faster results. The great thing about this product is that it's easy to use, no tricks or anything. Prior to applying this gel, exfoliating is very important. You wouldn't want dry patches on your skin that end up darker than the rest of you body! The Skin Smoothie is a spray on oil that you apply prior and after application to areas like your knees, elbows that softens the tan.

What I like about the line in general is that you know where your applying it since it has a dark brown color guard to it. After application, the color may seem intimidating, but once you wash it off, it comes off and leaves you a nice and brown suntan.

The difference between this the original lotion is that this gel has more color pay off than the lotion. Normally, with the lotion, it would take you about 2-3 applications to achieve the results of this gel with just one application. Also, this gel has a much nicer bottle since it's a pump and you have the control over the amount that comes out compared to the squeezable lotion bottle.

This gel runs about $27.99 on Sephora, but if you visit Fake Bake site, you could get this for only $19.50. Save yourself a couple of bucks and free shipping! (:

This tanner does give me a really nice dark tan, which i think is hard to find, but its reallyyyy hard to apply evenly. When i wake up, it looks like i have some kind of disease because of how uneven it is. It doesnt say anything about clogging pores or not, but i believe it does. I think this tanner would work really well if only i knew how to apply it well...

I have used many different self tanners and none of them seem to ever make me look tan enough for people to notice. Even after several days of application my family still says I look pasty white. So I decided to try Fake Bake Xtreme as a last resort being recommended to me if I wanted to acheive a dark color. I actually liked the color I was with the color guide, however, it was messy to apply, went on blotchy and when I washed it off I couldn't notice any color! At least with the other less expensive brands I've used I noticed some color - and this is suppose to be the darkest shade?? I applied as directed and exfoliated before hand like I always do. I've basically come to the conclusion that self tanners work for some people but unfortunately I'm not one of them. I do not tan in the sun and maybe self tanners will not react with my skin as well to make it dark enough.
