Well, a HG it ain't, but there are enough redeeming qualities that I might buy it again.
Firstly, the pros: the fragrance is very nice. It does dissipate rapidly after application, but I can smell it if I'm working out and it's not obnoxious. The hold is very good. Even on humid or actual rainy days, my hair style stays mostly intact. Also, it does seem to wash cleanly from my hair and no residue is left in my hair that I can detect.
And now the cons: it's silly expensive and I'm embarrased I bought it for full retail. The aerosol spray nozzle does not apply a fine mist. In fact it's very frustrating to get the hang of applying it without puddling it and leaving behind strands of saturated cakey tendrils. It's not my definition of flexible either. It's very painful to gently brush through if you are needing to restyle. It's also not soft or pleasant to touch. Although, a slight pro here, if you can brush through it slowly, my hair does not feel damaged or dried out from the application of this product. In fact it looks pretty healthy. I plan on looking for another styling spray in the Jonathan line. If only the spray were more fine, that would be an acceptable trade off for all I do like about it.

Think I found my HG hairspray! Honestly when I ordered it for full price I was already having regrets, because this is the most I ever paid for a hair styling product. But I risked it because of overwhelmingly positive reviews on MUA and elsewhere. I already found a good hairspray for extra hold- (Fudge Membrane Gas- glues your hair like no other) but I needed something to use daily- a soft finishing spray to provide some light hold without any stickiness or product buildup.
Well this is it! And so so much more... Jonathan Finish Control High Shine Flexible Hairspray is amazing for everyday subtle styling- it gives a nice boost to my flat roots, nice light hold to my lengths and is so easy to brush out. It keeps everything together, but doesnt feel like Im wearing a hairpray- it's my hair but only better- still flexible and natural looking. Best of all is that there's no product buildup whatsoever! I'm serious. NO heavy flat hair, no second day dirty feeling. Actually this hairspray makes my hair feel extra clean next day (i dont wash it everyday), all soft and bouncy. One more bonus is that it doesnt encourage frizz, not even in worst humid conditions! (And my hair just loves to frizz)
The fragrance is subtle and very non-typical for hairspray- it reminds me of clean shampoo smell.

Only hairspray that comes close to Jonathan's, performance-wise is Paul Mitchell's Super Clean Spray- which like J's doesnt cause product buildup and is more affordable. But I still prefer this Jonathan's because I find it better overall- The ingredients are impressive with almond oil, soy protein, bunch of flower & fruit extracts, and no silicones. I dont feel guilty using it because of this- it doesnt seem to damage or dry out my hair at all.
It's also proudly labeled vegan- which means no animal derived ingredients whatsoever.
I adore everything about this product, except the price, but I suppose considering all things, it IS worth it - will definitely repurchase.

Meh. This wasn't great and it wasn't horrible. Decent hold, but it feels crunchy until you break it up a little with your fingers. I tried spraying it close, farther away and far, far away and had the same results each time. I didn't notice any increase in my hair's shine. One positive aspect was the lack of your typical "I'm wearing hairspray" smell. I liked that I didn't have to keep smelling the product all day long. I purchased the travel size, which was already a lot at $8, so I couldn't see myself purchasing the larger bottle for the larger price of $30. There are far better products out there for far less.

This is the best hairspray for my naturally curly, very dry, colored and flat ironed hair. I have tried so many sprays and ended up with sprays that flaked up on hair, had no hold, still, you name it---this is wonderful. While I don' t notice any shine from the hairspray, it does have fabulous hold and does not build up. My hair does not feel dry or stiff and it holds my style all day. I purchased this for 50% off at B&BW. Due to the $30 price tag, I don't think I will re-purchase, but I will definately try to swap for it and pick it up on clearance.

Hands down the best hairspray I've ever used....I thought my HG hairspray was Loreal Elnett that I had to always send away for, as it's not carried in the States, (until recently, and even after Target started carrying it, they still didn't have the strength I used), but thankfully this hairspray was recommended to me at Ulta. Yes, it's $30, but it's worth every penny....I like to use hairspray to give body to my hair, but without it losing volume and weighed down an hour later....DOES NOT happed with Jonathan...My hair has NATURAL bounce and volume all day long and NEVER looks like a helmet.....Then after holding perfectly all day, brushes right out, just like the Elnett does....Oh, and the Jonathan has a much more pleasant smell than Elnett....So Ladies...If you are looking for fantastic hold, that won't weigh your hair down, but look super natural, look no further! The BEST hairspray on the market.

Oh golly, why do I fall in love with such expensive stuff?
I bought a small can of this at Ulta hoping I would hate it so I could move on to the next brand to try but I really think this is the BEST hairspray, hands-down, ever. Every time I used the small can I tried to tell myself, must not love! Too expensive! But, alas, the heart wants what the heart wants and my heart and hair WANT this hairspray! It is $30.00 a can but honestly, worth every penny. I will buy again providing that I am still employed! My next favorite is Fekkai but this better. My #1 thing about hairspray is I hate the smell but this one is not too awfully bad. Smell could be better but it does smell a little bit better than Fekkai (#2 fave) and Shaper plus (#3 fave). It actually smells kinda good but I always hate that I feel like hairspray competes with my perfume and I hate that. Oh well.
Anyhoo, getting back to the actual product performance:
This stuff is so flexible yet holds very well. I hate helmet head but yet I like my hair to "stay", and I like it to still be soft, swingy and shiny and have movement ... asking a lot, I know - but this hairspray actually delivers.
It does impart shine, too. I give this product an A+ and hope somehow the price will go down or at least not up! I will buy it again ... and again.

While looking for a hairspray that would keep my hair from turning to a gunky gluey mess in high heat and humidity, I stumbled upon this hairspray at ULTA.

It's expensive ($30 for a bottle)- the most I have *ever* paid for a hairspray. I was incredulous- would a REALLY expensive bottle of hairspray provide REALLY good results once my hair hit the sweltering heat and humidity of summer? Or would it provide the same lackluster results of most hairsprays out on the market?

Well, this hairspray is definitely NOT like the other hairsprays out on the market. It blows the other hairsprays out of the water. I like a medium to firm hold for my ultra fine hair- this hairspray provides that hold without being stiff. My hair is still soft, touchable, and bouncy. I often wear my hair in various updos, and this hairspray holds them all.

And the big test- how does it stand up in heat and humidity? Again- the other hairsprays out there don't even come close. For once, my hair isn't reduced to a gunky, gooey mess. It stays frizz-free and shiny.

$30 for a can of hairspray is spendy, but I'm now a complete believer. Definitely a HG!

I like this hairspray. It’s light, not sticky, not flakey, the hold is flexible and my curls stay curly longer than without hairspray or with my former hairspray Pantene Curl Hairspray. I didn’t notice any “high shine” effects, but it did not dull my hair like hairspray normally does. I bought the small bottle (2.25 oz) and it only lasted about eight weeks (using it 2-3 times a week), which was a real disappointment. I will note that I have very long thick hair so I need more hairspray than the average head. If it wasn’t so expensive, I’d buy again.

Soft-hold, flexible, light--however a hairspray is described, for me the words that usually come to mind are stiff, flakey, and drying. Not so with Jonathan's Finish Control, which avoids everything I hate about hairspray, while adding shine and holding my style all day. The can is huge, and the scent, while not the best, is light and fades quickly. I prefer Ted Gibson's spray for light hold, but for medium to high this is my favorite.

I like this hairspray as I like the aerosol ones and this one is huge but the price tag is a KILLER! I wish it didn't cost so much, but it lasts as I don't use too much of in. It does add some shine and all. The other hairspray I liked was the Fekkai flexible hold one but that one is a price that hurts most also, the smell of the fekkai is awesome but i think you get more for your money with the Johnathan and also i think that Fekkair has a more stiff feel. So I would repurchase unless I find something else I like better that comes out.

I don't typically use hairspray, but I wanted to try a styling trick I read in a magazine. The trick is to apply hairspray on wet strands, and blow-dry. Supposedly, you'll be left with a flexible style with body. I have fine hair, and am always looking to boost volume. This hairspray worked very nicely. After blowdrying, my hair was soft and manageable, and had some oomph to it -- not crazy volume, but enough. The nice plus is that since it's hairspray, it has a long hold.

This hairspray comes in two sizes: ridiculously big and ridiculously small. It does leave hair very shiny, though I would not say it's flexible. It's actually quite strong, which I like because I wear hairspray when I need to keep my hair in place. Bonus: vegan!

Amazing hold without feeling sticky and stiff. I am not real big into hairspray mostly because of the typical stiff and sticky feeling they give. This is by far the best hairspray I have ever used. Kind of pricey, but the larger size bottle goes a long way.

This is ALOT more moola than I like to spend on hairspray, but I really, really like it. It took me awhile to realize just how much but currently I am commited to it ( for now...)[ And also that they don't make the stuff I was formerly involved with for years-]

I have Long, layered wavy, color treated hair. I usually blow dry & curl a bit for defintion. This stuff rocks because it holds really nicely, somehow does frizz defense in the humid salt air & still has lots of movement. And even a bit of extra shine.

If I am really doing it up for a night out or whatever I sort of layer it in for extra hold. Spray a little, work on make-up and THEN touch it up. I find that works really well VS dousing myself w/ it all at once.

The scent doesn't do anything for me either way. It just smells like hairspray to me.( though not foul like say Aqua Net) It SAYS it has friendly ingredients that are good and healthy for color treated hair, So I choose to believe ...

PS I tried to find at Costco but no luck- thanks anyway!

This is a fairly good hairspray. The hold was actually much stronger than I expected. It holds well and doesn't make hair look dry or sticky, but it does feel very 'coated' if you use a little too much. For a more flexible hold I like Fekkai's hairspray. This is nice for updos, though!

I decided to give this a try since changing my hair style. I normally use Paul Mitchel Freeze and shine but for my fine hair it's really too stiff unless i'm trying to do a lot of curl or something formal. My hair is baby fine, silky soft, very color treated, mid neck length and layered all over. I have a ton of hair which combined with the fine ness and softness really creates a styling challenge.
I love to round brush my hair and love to add wave to my layers but never could find a product that did this effectively without requiring hours of setting my hair on velcro rollers. Not anymore. My hair always looks fabulous immediately after blow drying but as soon as it cools all the waves and volume I worked so hard to create with a round brush are gone. Finish control is my styling answer. I mist a little bit of this on the ends and a small amount on the roots and scrunch. It beautifully pieces out my layers, holds the wave i've created with my round brush, and gives my roots a light boost without feeling or looking stiff. I've found I can actually mold and sculpt my hair to lay how i want it to with just a light spritz of this spray. I love it! I didn't notice any shine but I also didn't notice any dulling effects. I didn't notice it having a strong scent but rather a subtle vanilla cake smell that doesn't really seem to stick with my hair. At the end of the night I can brush this out to flatten my hair for bed without having any flaking or knots. It won't hold your hair indefinitely, you can comb it out but general scrunching or moving of the hair won't break down the hold. Overall I love this as a style finishing product to hold and sculpt your finished style with no stickiness or flakiness. I do think it's way overpriced though. Try the travel size first because I can see this as a love it or hate it product.

This hair spray works really well on my fine wavy hair. I live near the ocean, so we often have high/cool humidity with the fog. This product does a good job of taming frizz and giving me a little bit of extra hold. The hair spray doesn't make my hair feel stiff or sticky at all - I just spritz it on for a couple of seconds and then run my hands along my hair like I'm putting it into a ponytail.

If you want firm but flexible hold, this is the product for you! I've tried all sorts of aerosol hairsprays but Jonathan's really holds super well for me. I spend way too much time styling my hair to let all that work go to waste by having droopy curls! Jonathan's hairspray keeps my curl 10+ hours. I have only good things to say about the way this product works... but it is very much on the expensive side. I will continue to repurchase.
