This product works well as a tinted moisturizer. Dont expect full coverage from this. If you have decent skin and just looking for an extra glow, this is nice. Lately ive developed sun spots/freckles and need fuller coverage so i wont be purchasing it again.

first "foundation". Not good for oily skin and the coverage is poor. Oxidizes way too fast and the color selection kind of sucks for darker skins. I will say that it might be good for those summer days when you dont feel like putting a mask on, it does cover up redness okay and if you're normal or dry skinned I bet it would be perfect :)

If you buy this product knowing that it's more like a tinted moisturizer (like me), you're going to be very satisfied! I absolutely love this stuff, I am in the shade 200 and it suits me perfectly. I think it is just enough coverage for day to day wear. As for the finish, it definitely isn't for someone who prefers a matte finish, for this gives a very natural finish.
I should mention that I have dry skin, a friend of mine has oily skin and tried this after my glowing recommendation and was awfully disappointed, for it left her face greasy and didn't last long.

I just purchased the Almay Smart shade in Medium & although it has only been a short period of time. I wanted to share my first experience using the Almay product. I got a small "try" tube from the Military base we shop, & the price was about $4.00 or less. The packaging of the trial size is simple. But that doesn't make or break the product for me. I am always on a budget so it works for me. I don't know if this is supposed to be like a BB cream, it is more of a tinted primer maybe.
I got home, & opened the tube of smart shade. It came out of the package just fine. It was not oily, or watery consistency. It was a creamy soft consistency. The color was off white, maybe more grayish tone. I decided to add a bit of my cream foundation to it and mixed them together. I liked the coverage very much. I waited for a min. & blotted w/ blotting tissue, then applied my concealer, patted that in & applied bronzer, then used a light dusting of powder. DONE!!
I do have undereye circles I need medium coverage for, & this helped along w/concealer. It may seem like alot of steps, but it works for me. I will continue to use this Almay Smart shade and then will update as to whether I will repurchase this Smart shade in a larger size. I have give this product 4 for the time being, but may UP the rating. :))

I am fair skinned with cool undertones and this foundation actually matches my skin better than any others and boy have I tried a lot.The packaging is average for drugstore no pump is a running theme lol I keep buying this to add to different foundations of I need a more moisturizing one but I really like it and is my daily foundation when I'm not going all out. Plus it has DOG which is great cuz I'm all about anti aging..preventive measures

Love the concept for this..a skin-matching foundation is a great idea for people like me who struggle finding their right match. However, the formula isn't pigmented enough to provide coverage of blemishes and dark spots I have. Instead of labeling this product as makeup, it should be considered a tinted moisturizer! After an hour of wear, it slides off my face and oxidizes like crazy. Only reason why I gave it 2 stars is that it didn't irritate my sensitive skin and I like the concept, so hopefully Almay will improve their formula for those of us with less than perfect skin.

This foundation did not work for me!!! It had such a runny consistency and was grey/white at first when I opened the cap. I tested it out by rubbing it on my hand and I guess it matched. But when I put it on my face, it felt greasy and gross and the color looked horrible and caked on. Don't waste your money on this.

I'm 15 and I had normal skin before using this product but when I started I thought I really liked it because it did cover. After a while I notice wow I do have to use a lot just to cover my blemishes and I also noticed my skin was super oily and throughout the day it looked a lot more caked on looking. My pores were clogged badly too. I now wear bare minerals and I find it amazing!

This is the ONLY makeup I have tried that does not cause me to break out, and I have tried many different brands and types, including some of the most minimalist and "safe" brands out there. If I could give this makeup 10 stars on 5, I would.
This has basically saved my life in a time where I could not put ANYTHING on my face without breaking out. This makeup has been a life-saver for me and has allowed me to conceal my terrible breakout without aggravating it.
I will never put anything else on my face. Thank you Almay for making such a wonderful product and please don't ever discontinue or reformulate it, I don't know what I would do.

As for the color, my skin varies from a 1 (light in winter) to a 2 (medium when I'm tanned). I will often mix 1 and 2 to get the perfect color for my skin.

I apply it in the morning with a foundation brush (that I wash daily) and it will last ALL day. I could even go swimming with this on and it will still be there and looks very natural. Plus there's an SPF in it, so it doubles as a sunscreen. I cannot wear sunscreen without breaking out after, and this has been a perfect substitution in the summer.

If you have acne prone, sensitive skin, I cannot recommend this product enough. Stop everything else, and just use this. Make sure to gently wash you face twice in the evening to ensure all the makeup comes off.

I use this as a concealer. It sometimes dried out and looked like dead skin on my face. But when I moisturized before I used it it never dried looking bad

I purchased both the concealer and foundation, and neither of them did the job. It turned Snooki-orange on my skin, accentuated my pores, and didn't cover anything. Blended terribly. Looked caky. Worst foundation EVER!

I do not like this foundation. The lightest shade is way to dark for my skin and I feel it gives an orange undertone. I am not very impressed with the staying power and was drying on my skin. I would not reccommened or repurchase.

I've been using this for years! First off, this is not the product for girls who need heavy coverage for acne, scarring, or severe blemishes. It is very lightweight, somewhat similar to a tinted moisturizer. I feel like it gives my skin a clear, fresh look and matches my skintone completely. However, to get better coverage, I put this on first, and then I put my foundation powder on top. I never get that "line of demarcation" along the chin line because this is very easily blended into the skin. Fresh, lightweight makeup that makes it look like you're not wearing anything at all! Great product.

I apply this product with a makeup sponge. I have found that when applied using fingers this product matches the color of the finger first which was too dark for my fair skin! I put it on my wrist(which matched my face better) to eliminate this... I didn't like the finish I felt orange but I got many compliments! I had to use my fit me by maybelline powder and concealer and this product stayed all day with nice coverage. it is a little pricey and the packaging is cheap but, if you don't have oily skin or need light coverage this is for you. it is not good used without powder or concealer!!! I do not think I will be repurchasing.

PROS

Shades are very forgiving.
It takes little time to apply.

CONS
Too oily for my already oily skin:(

I think it would work great on dry or normal skin.

This was my first and last Almay foundation that I've tried. While I was pleasantly surprised at how this felt on my, the color matching is way off for people with fair complexions. It goes on a nice shade at first but over time oxidizes to a horrible orange color. Another problem with this isa it's no more than a tinted moisturizer. If you have lots of imperfections, discoloration, blemishes, or dark circles to cover steer clear. So unless you're into looking like an Oompa Loompa I definitely would not recommend this to anyone or repurchase.

My mom bought me this for christmas as a stocking stuffer, and it didnt even cover a freckle! This cover up was nothing but a colored moisturizer! I would wear it under my foundation, which did apply quite nicely ontop of this "makeup" If youre looking for something heavy that you think will cover EVERYTHING you should save your money, this is for people who have very clear skin! However, I did like how light it felt on my skin and soft it made it feel. It was as if I was wearing a light, natural, moisturizer. I would wear it on the days my skin was very clear but still felt I needed a little makeup boost. Minimal coverage though. I would rate this as a 2.5

I love this foundation, it doesn't look cakey on my skin and covers a lot of my pimples and red spots by making their colour sort of blend in my skin. sometimes I even put this on my whole face to make a nice even skin tone. After a while this product became to light for my tanned skin in the summer and it was running out so I gave it to my grandma lol

Nooooooo! This stuff is horrible! I bought it because I wanted to try a cheaper foundation and I have always been curious about Almay.

This stuff blends OK, but the big problem with it is that the 'smart shade' part that activates and supposedly matches your skin color doesn't work very well. When I wore this I would have people ask me what was on my face so I would look and there would be a dark orange blotch on my face from where the makeup would try (and fail) to match my color, and it usually would happen around my eye area. I don't understand how the smart shade stuff works but it really doesn't do a good job whatsoever of making my skin look better.

I just can't wear a foundation that will change to a color that is a lot darker than my natural color. Also, I don't want to worry about putting this stuff on and hope that it doesn't do the blotches, that's not something I would have expected to ever have to worry about with my makeup. I will definitely NOT repurchase.

This is the first foundation I have got that I absolutely love! It never comes on orange or cakey, and gives a glowing effect. It doesn't get oily, and looks natural. Great product! I usually apply it with a foundation brush.
