I bought a Caruso set because the reviews sounded promising, but I found I only used it a couple of times in the end. I've just ebayed it. It was a real faff to use, too high maintenance for me I'm afraid. It also didn't give my (fine, long, highlighted) hair as much of a curl as I'd hoped - it just left it slightly turned under at the ends, which is nice but not enough of a result after all of that hard work. Thumbs down from me.

I’m African American with relaxed hair and like many African American women, I’m on a mission to finally grow my hair long. I have extremely dry hair and have to moisturize it twice a day sometimes so needless to say I desperately need to stay away from heat if I want to retain any length. BUT I love volume and curls so I usually have to wet set my hair to get the volume and moisture that I like. HOWEVER unfortunately that doesn't always give me the body that I like so I was constantly searching for a remedy. I kept hearing about these steam rollers that apparently were no new phenomenon to most people but I myself had never heard of them. I watched several YouTube videos and read countless reviews (I’m kind of fanatic that way) and most of the reviews were favorable so I decided to give them a try.
LOVE THESE ROLLERS!! I try to work out pretty regularly so I subsequently end up washing my hair a lot and who wants to wet set their hair 2-3 times weekly? No one! So what I did was wash/condition my hair, wrapped it wet, let it air dry overnight, then applied the rollers this morning. I let them sit in for about 10 minutes, kinda fingered combed them initially, and then finished it off with a wide-tooth comb. So pretty! I really like a loose curl and that’s exactly what I have. I sprayed a small amount of Pantene Flexible Hold because my hair is super fine and doesn’t hold much volume without it. I just checked in the restroom at work and my curls/volume are still intact! I’d definitely recommend them.

WARNING: One reviewer suggested to add setting lotion into the water of the unit. DO NOT DO THIS! The chemicals made the steam EXTREMELY hot and I got a really bad burn plus it releases TOXINS into the air! I can't find the review saying this right now but I think I saw it on the other page with Caruso reviews.. ANYWAY..
Caruso: Stop making these so crappy! This is completely overpriced..
The quality of this product isn't the same anymore. Plus, the quality isn't consistent meaning some people get a unit that works for a year or two and others get one that works for a week and breaks.
I have fine, thin, curl resistant hair. Regular rollers have never worked for me and curling irons work for a couple hours tops before my hair goes flat and frizzy again.
However, the steam concept is a great one. I just used this for the first time and I was so hopeful and excited but I ended up extremely dissapointed. My hair just came out slightly wavy, not much body. I believe if I experiment more with hairspray and maybe more steam I'll get better results so Im gonna keep trying.

I love these! My hair doesn't like to hold a curl but it lasts and lasts with these. And no damage! They're super easy once you get the hang on steaming one while rolling your hair with one...and I am not very good at doing my hair usually. I really recommend these.

I have used the Caruso steam hair setter for 20 years with absolutely beautiful results. My secret is to;
a.) evenly apply Giovanni mousse into damp or dry hair, allow to air dry (or lightly blow dry on cool)
b.) steam rollers for 5 seconds
c.) roll
d.) let dry completely.
I believe that more than any other step, the 'allow to dry completely' is what locks in the curl.
If I am having a leisurely morning, I just leave the rollers in for an hour or two until dry. Alternately, I sometimes remove the roller, reroll it into shape and use two bobby pins to pin the curl and let dry completely. Unpin, style and finish with a touch of hairspray.
If I am on a schedule, after 15 minutes of set, I blow dry under the roller covers on cool temp. setting. for a few minutes to insure that each is dry. Then remove rollers and style, finishing with just a touch of hairspray.
The steps are actually a lot quicker than they sound.
I leave the curls in for three days before I wash and condition.
Through experience I have found that the first day of steam setting my hair gives me soft curls and just a little body. If I curl again on the second day, the curls are firmer with medium body at the roots. On the third day, I usually wear it in an updo or brush it out into beautiful waves.
I hope that this review helps someone. Love to you all.

Back to the store it goes.
I needed something that wouldnt damage my hair. I have long thick hair. Wendislookbook made me want one so I gave it a go. It curled but only last an hour. It's straight again. Yes, I used hairspray.
Back to the iron I go.

Love love love this...my hair looks amazing, finally! I've bought practically every hot roller set, foam/velcro rollers, curling irons, round brush (U name it) and this is the best. I actually found out about it on here...so after i read the reviews, i ran out to sally's and got my own. I also purchased the addition jumbo roller set because I only wanted soft curls with volume, not tight curls. The first time i used it, i hated it. My hair was frizzy and flat. But, I figured that i was was using too much steam,I was actually wetting my hair. The key to using these rollers is to only place the rollers under the steam for NO MORE than 4 seconds. Otherwise, they get saturated and they wont work. I also used lottabody setting lotion (another Sally buy) to set the curls, waited 15-20 minutes and then I was good to go. :)

This is a really old lady poduct. I mean come on? Foam hot rollers? I was desperate to get some curls to stay in my hair though and I heard steam was good for that. This thing really sucks IMO. It frizzed my hair and only curled the ends not the whole section. I looked straight out of the 70s. Really chintzy unit too. can't see how it ould hold up. I'll be selling mine.

I've had this for over a year and used it about a dozen times with not so good results. My hair is very long so even with the jumbo sized rollers all I can get is some curl at the ends. I like the fact that it uses steam instead of heat so there's no damage to my hair. The problem is the curl doesn't last. It looks good at first but within an hour it's practically gone. This is too time consuming for the final result. I got longer lasting curl with my hot brush and it's easier to use.

After reading all the rave reviews, I decided to try this Caruso steam hairsetter. All I can say is "wow"! Why did it take me so long to try this? I have a lot of very long, baby fine hair that is 2/3 way down my back. It's nearly impossible to get it to hold a curl for more than a few hours. I've tried curling irons (takes forever and doesn't hold the curl, plus it's damaging), hot rollers (curls fine but curls don't last) and now this hairsetter. Caruso has other curling methods beat by a landslide. It's hard to believe that a little steam can give me such soft curls that actually last! Great curls and no damage. If anything, my hair feels even softer afterward. I don't use any setting lotion, but have found that finishing with a little hairspray helps keep the curl in all day and into day 2.
Also, I don't care for the plastic clips that come with the curlers. Instead, I use the butterfly clips that came with my old hot rollers set. They can be purchased separately, too in Sally's. I find them faster and much easier to use.

Just bought this today after realizing I need to stop relying on my hair straightener and start doing something healthy to my hair.
I heard really good things about this steam hairsetter so I thought I would go to my local Sallys and pick it up.
I just did a little test run on my bangs because they were the only part of my hair that wasn't already curled from my scrunching extravaganza. This thing is amazing!! I steamed the little small roller for 5 seconds and then put it in my hair and let it sit for 15 minutes. I took it out and OMG.. my bangs are super cute curled! I can't wait to try it on my whole head. Which I will come back and review it again!

Key to these rollers is only leaving them on the steamer for 3-4 seconds each. The HEAT does NOT set the hair...the STEAM does! Therefore, the rollers are never going to be HOT.
Too much steam will make your hair wet...leaving a frizzy, moist, mess. One only requires a few SECONDS of steam to set the curl, as the instructions indicate. Before you throw it out, try again. Also, shake off curler before rolling hair.
With that said, I think these rollers are glorius! No heat damage to hair and soft, sensual curls that last all day. Don't mind placing one at a time because by the time I am done rolling one section of hair, the roller is done for the next, and so on. I have a nice rhythm now that I've been doing it awhile. And what a way to protect your ends over the years if you wish to retain length, it really helps to prevent split ends since there isn't heat and stress to the hair. I will love this steam roller set forever.
TIPS: if you wish to set hair a bit more, try putting a little bit of setting lotion - just a splash! - in the water reserve. Or when you style your hair dry, use some sort of leave-in conditioner, which will help support longer hold too. Also, to expedite drying, you blow dry your hair once the rollers are sitting in place, if you're short on time.
UPDATE March 2010:
Stil using them. Still loving them. Still have beautiful ends without heat damage.
UPDATE LATE FEB 2011:
Still using! Still no heat damage! And the curls last longer than when I use my T3, CHI or Superstar.

I really wanted to try these, since reading all the positive reviews on this. I got these with 6 jumbo rollers for volume. I don't personally mind the wait of getting the rollers each steamed up. But these do absolutely nothing for me. I did exactly as the instructions indicated---3-5 seconds. No volume, no curl to the end of my hair---nothing. I actually left me with semi-moist hair. This was such a let down and a waste of money for me. I'd rather use a decent set of heat curlers and get a great set of curls, even if it does give me split ends.

This is a HORRIBLE product. Steaming rollers one at a time is horribly time consuming, and it takes multiple minutes for each one to get steamed. And the kicker- the rollers don't get even remotely warm. They did nothing for my hair. I bought these because they supposedly work well for hair that doesn't really take a curl, but these rollers works worse than a curling iron.

I've had these curlers for many years. I used to use these every single day to curl my hair before I went to work after blowdrying it, when I was working. (I'm a SAHW now so no need for all that extra work) The curl did last all day for me, it works better if you put a little styling gel on the pieces before you use this. These do not damage your hair at all.
I used these just last night to curl my hair which is rare for me, and my complaint nowdays is they need to make some really long curlers about 10" tall for women with long hair. This just doesn't give you any space to wrap long hair around the curlers to wear more modern style curls that you can get with a flat/curling iron. I keep waiting and hoping I'll see these on-line, but so far none. I bought some style stix to try, but haven't gotten around to using them yet. If they do come out with some modern size long curlers I'd give this 4 lipsticks.
I added my Pic above.

I have been using the Caruso steam rollers for over 10 years. They are the absolute BEST hair curlers ever. My long hair has an odd wave in it, so I pretty much curl my after I wash it. The curl lasts the entire day and then I have a nice wave the next day. Curling irons and other rollers will not keep the curl in my hair the entire day, regardless of the products I use with them.
I have bought a total of 3 sets over the 10 years and use 2 at a time so that I can do my hair quicker. I bought extra rollers from ebay about a year ago because the ones that came with the sets were pretty tattered.
This product is worth its weight in gold. My hair would be a mess without it.

I think these work better than regular hot rollers or curling irons. The reason for four lippies instead of five...I wish that it came with different clips instead of the snap-on holders it comes with, and had a better storage solution other than a plastic bag. But, a great product!

Once I used this my hair was fizzy. My curls did not hold long at all. I still had to recurl some of my hair with a curling iron. My ends looked smooth, but I have long hair and the hair more towards my scalp was fizzy and not smooth. I think it may work better with shorter hair! I also don't think it gets hot enough for my type of hair which is a mixed breed, because the curl started to fall out as soon as I took the roller out.
