I've been looking for a pretty neutral brown for winter, and I have found it. I am simply in love with this color. it looks like a plummy purple in certain lights, or hot chocolate brown with slight shimmer in others. it takes about 3 coats to get the opacity the way I like it, but it doesn't bother me. I have a feeling I'll be using up the entire bottle. if you like Essie's Angora Cardi, this is a great "sister color" to that one.

Picked 'Over the Knee' for my manicure this week, and was sadly disappointed in the color. When out in the sunlight, OTK is a lovely toffee color with a subtle bronze sheen. Indoors, however, it just looks like dog poop. And I'm a brown-polish lover, I just find this one to be totally flat unless my hands are on the steering wheel or waving in the sun. In the office, meh.
Edit 9/23/12: As much as I was disappointed with the color, I added a lippie because today is day 8 and I've had no chips - just tip wear. I'm impressed with how well Over the Knee wore all week. It did finally grow on me, but will still pass on purchasing it.

I think this is a great colour when you look at the bottle, but with my skintone it didn't show like this chocolaty, taupe-like with some warm gold shimmer. As in many Essie polishes shimmer is so delicate, that it just adds some depth to the colour and doesn't show.
However, I didn't exactly like the fact that the polish looked very matte-y, even with top coat on. Usually, when applying a nail varnish, I get this thick and glossy feeling to what I get, but not with this one.
Overall, I think that Over the Knee is a beautiful everyday colour, if it enhances the colour of your skin.

I wasn't expecting to love this color. I picked it up as my rewards item from Ulta thinking "hey this looks work appropriate" not at all like when I wear china glaze for Audrey with black shatter over the top hehe...
but anyway once I put it on I was in love. It's such a sophisticated color and compliments my skin color beautifully. I used two coats and I have no complaints about goopyness or streaking. I will finish this bottle.

A cool toned milk chocolate cream. Covers well in two coats, but I think three would be better as there are some bare spots that show in bright light/sun. A good light brown neutral for my NW20 skin.

This is a chocolately mauvey brown color with a bronzey shimmer. Very pretty and better for my light skin than Opis 'you dont know jaques ' which is flat on me. It did streak so I used 3 coats Very pretty especially in the Fall;-)

I absolutely love this color. I wore it on my toe nails and it looks very sophisticated and neutral. It's a mauve brown color. It goes on pretty smoothly and like most nail polish it needs two coats for an opaque look. Excellent nail polish and i wore it for about a week on my toe nails and it still did not chip yet and i didnt use a top coat. Loving this.

This is a beautiful color for brown ladies looking for a neutral shade. With one coat it's a beautiful mauvey brown. With a second coat it's fudgesicle brown. It looks great on finger nails and delicious on the toes! My one gripe is that the application is a little goopy.

I was a little bit disappointed with this nail polish colour. I love browns, and I was excited to find a cool brown with shimmer in it, which is what this colour looks like in the bottle. However, two coats each on my toes and fingers looks like what's on the website, which is a flat milk chocolate. After wearing it for two weeks, this colour has grown on me. Unless I find something better, this is my HG brown nail polish colour.

Edit: I gave it one more lippie, I can see a tiny bit of sparkle in the sunlight. In fact it's kind of pretty.
Eh, this isn't that bad. It's not anything like the sparkley bronzey color in the bottle, this comes out as a flat milk chocolate with a TINY touch of plum color. It gets a lippie off for the fact it's a flatish color.

Eh, nothing special about this color. It's rather boring on the nails. The color is a medium cocoa with milk brown, the bottle has a bronzy peach shimmer that does not show up on the nails. Once applied, the color is darker and rather flat. The fudgesicle description is rather appropriate, though it's not really flattering on my Stila 30 watts, Chanel Beige, GA LSF 5.5 skintone. The application was good and streak free, one of the thicker Essies. Unfortunately this color didn't work for me so no, I would not repurchase.

It looked pretty in the bottle... there are some peachy flashes of shimmer there. But once I put it on my nails? Blech. No shimmer, no sparkle or shine, just plain turdy brown. Completely not impressed!

Exactly the color of a fudgesicle. I really wish that the bronzey shimmer in the bottle showed up on my nails. This goes on darker than you would think just by looking at the bottle. It goes on a creamy medium-brown. It's not that I don't like brown shades of nail polish but this one is too much for me (at least on my hands). I think it would be a better toe color. Essie describes this as "chocolate milk-y brown with a subtle glimmer."

I have to give this a 4. If for no other reason, it is a brown that I can wear. I'm a cool-toned PPP and am not a person who typically reaches for brown shades. Often, they feel too warm or "blah" for me. This is a really lovely light milk chocolate brown (fudgsicle is a good description) with a little bit of a bronzy shimmer to it. It looks great on my toes. One coat is lighter and the bronze is more noticeable. With 2 coats, it is just a touch darker than the color in the bottle. Topped with a high shine top coat, it looks great.

Here's my first Essie review.
THE COLOR
I fell in love with this color because of the rosy flecks, but the base of the color is a rather plain, cool cocoa brown. The overall effect of the color is like a milk chocolate cherry or raisin. However, in the bottle, it is slightly prettier than on. It is actually *darker* on me than in the bottle! I don't know how that could happen but I think it's the thick glass on the corners of the Essie bottle is meant to make the color look lighter than actually it is. On me, the brown is quite forgettable. Or worse.
THE TEXTURE
The texture is slightly thinner than the OPI counterpart. I noticed that the brush made it a little different to apply. I felt that it may have been easier to get to the edges of the nail (short = maneuverability). But I feel that the brush if longer would sort of smooth out the texture of the product on the nail. Not real streaky but a bit layery.
THE WEAR
I had the misfortune to have a chip on my left finger. I don't know if it was the nail flaking due to peeling or a chip because the product isn't as strong as the China Glase or the OPI product. I will give this product the benefit of the doubt and attribute the chip to a split nail.
OVERALL
I feel after reading so many reviews that either (1) I chose poorly and should have selected After Sex or Mademoiselle or Adore-a-Ball or Nude Beach. Or the overall Essie experience is not for my taste, because of the color and the perception that I have that this color chipped. I think I will swap this color or save it for when I am in a cocoa brown mood. But I know I will never buy this again when there are so many FUN products I want to try!!

I love dramaqueenie’s fudgesicle description! Yummy, milk chocolate fudgesicle goodness (with a nice touch of rosy-copper shimmer) for fall nails. An interesting note - as I’m wearing this on my tips with one hand hosting my platinum bridal set and the other hosting a yellow-gold & garnet ring and a stack of plain yellow-gold bands (a la Kate Hudson)…this polish seems to suit the gold adorned better.

This is a classic brown shimmer. It's a classic, understated choice well suited for Fall and winter. The unexpected twist is that this color has a copper shimmer instead of gold or clear. It does dry darker than it appears in the bottle--it reminds me of a fudgesicle. YUMMY!

In the bottle, this shade appears to be a light chocolate with bronzy shimmer, but it applies slightly darker than the bottle color since the shimmer is very subtle on the nail. On my nails it looks like Hershey's milk chocolate, maybe just a shade or two lighter and warmer. I'm not crazy about it for myself, but for those who enjoy chocolate browns, it would be lovely. I actually think it looks fine against my cool-toned skin; it may be more of a style thing for me -- I'm just not used to seeing brown on my nails, I think I prefer more girly colors like pinks and nudes. But it's a nice brown.
