I bought this because I'd purchased several lipsticks that, while gorgeous, was so moisturising I was afraid they'd slide right off my lips. Overall, I'm very happy with what this lip primer does. I put it on, wait for it to get a bit tacky on my lips, and then just apply my lipstick. With moisturising/shiny lipsticks it helps keep them in place longer, and with matte ones it helps them glide on easier as well as prevent the lips from looking dry. It even saved my Mary Kay nourishine plus lip gloss from collecting dust/going in the bin. It has always slid right off my lips before and put me off using it, but with this product underneath it had at the very least the normal staying power of a lipgloss, if not better. One thing I was pleasantly surprised about was the subtle but rather pleasant vanilla-ish scent/taste of the primer. The way the product looks, I expected it to both feel and taste a bit like a cheap glue-stick, to be honest. Don't let that put you off the product though! It's a handy one for anyone who loves wearing lipsticks and want to prolong the staying power a bit.

I love this lip primer! I use it before any lipstick, gloss or stain and it moisturizes perfectly and appears to smooth out the lines on my lips. I have tried other brands but always come back to Mac's. It is pricy, but works better than Fresh or Bite Beauty lip primers and their's is even more expensive.

I feel as though if you have to prime a lipstick then why bother it's just extra money for something that mac tells consumers that they need smh but what they need is to make matte lipsticks that don't sink into lip lines instead of an overload of unnecessary collections with a bunch of repromotes and lipsticks that look exactly like the last ones with stupid names smh.

So at first I thought why would I need a lipprimer.Nowadays it seems you have to prime everything before you can even start with your makeup. But then the Sa at the Mac counter applied this product before the Russian Red and the lipstick went on smoother (no tugging), stayed longer on my lips and worn down nicer. So long story short, I was sold. This product makes applying your matte lipsticks easier, makes the formula even more long wearing and no more dry lips :)

This is an epic product like, OMG! Why has this not been in my life forever?! Very well done, MAC. In a world with every other company coming out with matte liquid lipsticks? YOU NEED THIS. Makes for a comfortable experience ALL DAY LONG. Make sure you follow instructions by putting it on then allowing to get sticky before placing lip color on. I use this for those harder to work with lippes. For example, Kat Von D's Studded Kiss line of lippies are matte and they can be a bit patchy, particularly when you touch up. They go on much better in the morning after a layer of lip balm but if you place this product under them instead of lip balm it is very comfy all day! ALL DAY! I do not use lip balm if I'm going to use this. I have never and don't see a need to. One thing - Colourpop has a very good dupe of this as a lippie stick. It is called a primer also. I find them to be the same so if you want to save some $$$$.... But I will certainly be repurchasing this.

I'm not sure whether or not I'm using this product correctly, but I seem to be having a lot of issues with it. I bought it to see if it might keep products from sinking noticeably into my vertical lip lines while extending the wear-time. So far, I think it's extended wear time very slightly but caused some other issues (see below). I've tried it under a MAC lipstick, a MUFE lipstick, and a Lancome lipstick, and I'd say it really only worked properly with the MUFE lipstick. I wore it under MAC's "Girl About Town," and while it extended the wear, the pigment separated and sunk into my lips in a way I had not experienced previously with the color. I had a similar issue when I wore it under a Lancome Le Rouge Absolu (Rose Petale). The Lancome lipstick is on the older side, so it's possible that's why the pigment separated, but when a MAC lipstick separates over a MAC prep product, I think it's fair to be suspicious. The product smells fine (though it does have a smell), and it feels nice on the lips. I sometimes notice a faint chemical-y taste, but it's difficult to pinpoint whether or not that's from the primer itself, given that I'm always using it with another product. Regardless, this product hasn't really accomplished what I'd hoped it would accomplish, so I can't give it very high marks. I will keep experimenting and report back if I find a better way to use it.

I have to say, after suffering from dry lips for years and having to run on constant balms which takes away my lipstick colour, this is fantastic!... I love matt lipsticks, though they can cause dry lips (and especially liquid lipsticks -beware folks!)... I put this on before my lippy, wait about 20 seconds til it goes tacky, then apply my Mac matt lipsticks... they just glide on with no dragging... and my lips stay so soft, no need for balms... it keeps my lippy on all day and my lips feel so comfortable. I've already stocked up on them... I always worry that now I've found something so good they'll go and discontinue it or something!!!! Normally just my luck. Fantastic and really works - reasonable price too.

I went through two tubes of this, and I have to say, it really works. It adds to the life of your lipstick and smooths as nicely as any balm. No cons, except for the company's animal testing policy. I wish MAC were cruelty free.

This is the most amazing lip product I have ever purchased. It gets your lips ready for color and keeps them hydrated even when using drying matte shades. I love love love this product and literally can't go anywhere without it. You will not be disappointed! Hugs!

Ok, I was really skeptical of this thing. It looked like some weird hot glue gun stick in a lipstick case and I was like, "That's way too much to pay for some weird looking vaseline glue."But this thing works.I was given one as a sample when i purchased a ridiculous amount of Mac lipsticks, and let me tell you when I was done I went back and purchased three more, as if they were gonna stop making them (yeah, seriously, I'm too impulsive), but once you try this, you'll be hard pressed to find something better unless you remember to use lip balm daily. Now normally I scrub my lips with sugar and honey beforehand, but in an emergency (accidentally forgetting date night and getting a reminder 15 minutes before I'm due at the restaurant) I just smear this stuff on, and then wait an agonizing 45 seconds before slathering on my lipstick.Despite the look of vaseline/glue stick, the texture is more 'giving'/pliable. It has some some oomph to it, as it it's notable when you put it on your lips and you can feel the coating, but it goes away pretty quickly when it dries.I really dislike how this thing looks, but i can't fault the formula or the job it does. This is not the best anti-feathering tool available, but you can get away with not using a lip liner as this does help prevent some bleeding (SOME, like if you drink half a cup of coffee, not the whole coffee). This stick lasts you ages, and ages, and ages, so be hygienic and keep it clean or else it will start getting icky, and the formula starts getting more 'greasier' (as it contaminates, formula breaks down due to bacteria) and you won't get such a good primer out of it.You can apply this over your already applied lipstick then go over it again, no need to wipe off your lipstick and start anew if you have dry lips but do note lipstick colour stain is not easy to get rid of from the actual stick itself.Anyway. That's it.Invest in this thing, there's lots of lip primers and conditioners, but this thing does what its namesake says: PREP. The prime is probably for marketing, because there's a lot of primers (for your face, eyes, even your eyelashes) but this is a prep tool. A good one.
