OMG, this product is HG for those like me with thick, big, dry hair. I have the Maxiglide xpress with steamburst and this iron gets my hair relaxer straight in more than half the time I usually would spend flat ironing my hair. The ends of my hair are no longer crispy, and tangled.

Curly haired ladies, the "teeth" will undoubtedly rip your hair out! There is some kind of contraption that strands of my hair would get caught in and snap off. I hated this thing and the steam feature is just ridiculous! Glad I sold it. I'm so much happier with my Solia.

I love my maxi glide! In my opinion, it is the best hair straightener on the market. My hair is very thick, curly, frizzy and dry. I’ve experimented for years with ceramic irons (chi & sedu) and while they did straighten my hair, they did nothing to cut back on my uncontrollable frizz and dryness. This is the only product makes my hair look shiny and smooth. The maxi glide has completely changed my hair routine. In the past, I would blow dry my hair with a large round brush and then I would use a flat iron on it. My hair always looked dry and damaged, no matter how much conditioner I used. I could never let my hair grow long because I constantly had to get trims to cut off all the breakage from all those heating tools.
This all changed when I got my maxi glide! My routine is so simple now – I just shampoo and condition my hair, towel dry, then apply some citre shine serum, a little leave-in conditioner, and a good straightening lotion (like Rusk’s str8.) I then let my hair air dry. I turn my maxi glide up to about 4 (it goes to 10) and run it through my hair. The maxi glide spins my frizzy blonde hair into golden silk! I agree that the steam can be VERY hot – I do not use a burst until I am nearing the end of my hair. The steam keeps my ends hydrated and looking so healthy. Because of the maxi glide, I now have long (it’s now to my mid-back), healthy, straight hair. I’ll never ever use another straightener!

I love this flat iron. I got it for Christmas in 2004. The only negative I have is that I wish it were about 1/2" thinner, but my hair is waist length, so maybe I don't.
I shampoo, condition, detangle, apply leave in, dry (air or blow), and section my hair into four parts, applying whatever serum before flat ironing, but after my hair is cooled. I pull this very slowly through my hair and it's smooth and shines like crazy. Another big plus for me is that my hair doesn't smell flat ironed when I'm done.
The pins aren't meant to detangle, so if you're having issues with the pins catching try detangling better or ironing smaller sections of hair. There is also the option to replace the plate with pins with a flat (included) plate.
The steamburst is great on my ends, but make sure you aren't anywhere near your scalp (PER THE INSTRUCTIONS) or you will burn yourself. It's steam. Steam hot. Steam hurt.
You don't have to clamp down and pull this flat iron as hard as you would a normal one (it said so in the instruction manual and on the infomercial). You'll break your hair if you do.
The mini glide is nice for root touch ups, but there's no temp control.

I'd have to chime in here with I love, love, love this product. I bought it off their website on a whim and I am definitely glad I did. The price was a little steep at the time but considering how much I use it, it more than makes up for the expense.
It heats up quickly. It works great. Straight hair in half the time of other straighteners I've used.
Just a few things in regards to other posts that I see: you shouldn't use the steam function until the appliance is a couple of inches away from the scalp (this is in their instructions) otherwise, yes, you will get burned. Also the little "combs" are not really meant to de-tangle your hair. Use a comb or brush to go through your hair to remove big tangles before using. The combs are there more for separating your hair so it can receive even heating from the appliance.
It is a little heavier than other straighteners, but as you don't have to pull and clamp down on your hair in order to get your hair straight with this tool, you won't notice that for long. 20 min and I'm done (I have long, wavy hair).
Definite full 5 lippies on this one. Would never purchase any other straightener.

I LOOOOOVE this flat iron. I purchased the XP version 5 years ago and it was my very first flat iron. It's worked perfectly everytime. And it still works wonderfully now. Just follow the instructions carefully and you won't have any problems. I'm surprised about the complaints about this iron. It does snag if you don't brush out the tangles in your hair beforehand and clamp down hard and pull the iron through your hair (which you're not supposed to do). It also works fast. My entire head of hair was straight in under 20min. I hardly ever got split ends. My hair is normally thin, coarse, wavy, curly, frizzy and desert dry. After using this product, you would never think I had hair issues. My hair would be silky, smooth, shiny...perfect looking. The only cons for this product is that it's heavy. However, i'm going to buy the Maxius MAXIglide MP and Maxiessentials Hair Care Set on HSN.com (Item: 558-278). I bought the Infinity Conair Nano Silver flat iron for $80 thinking it was a better and lighter iron and boy was I mistaken! The Conair flat iron killed my hair. Never again!!! ...I'm sticking with MAXIglide!!!

I love this iron. I have very curly hair and irons usually just flatten the curls into 2D smashed curls without straightening them.
I love that the Maxiglide has those little detangling pins that make sure my hair straightens as it irons. There's a good range of temperatures, always a plus.
I wish it wasn't as bulky, but a minor con.

I love love love this Iron. I have tried many many irons, not just my own purchases, my friends irons as well; the chi, Sedu, ones from Sally's, Conair, Conair platinum, I dont even remember all of them. I have thick middle eastern curly hair, its been TR'd in the past but I have about 6 inches of regrowth. Anyhow this is the best iron. It really smooths and straightens my hair the quickest and best.
I am extremely impatient because I have a lot of hair, i start with one side, taking small strands and then by the time im at the back or other side i take huggeee slices of hair to iron all at once. Other irons, you can instantly see the difference when I start doing that to the other side, the maxi glide, as long as you brush and comb through it first is brilliant in that it still will straighten huge bits of hair. It stays smooth and straight and i highly recommend it.
I've turned at least 4 friends on to it who flat iron regularly and love it (All curly haired) I would buy again and I def. recommend , I doubt this would be suitable for fine hair I think it would be too much for that type of hair, but for the serious flat ironer or those with curly, thicker or ethnic hair it's fantastic!

Wow. I can't believe how many negative comments this iron has gotten. I love my Maxi Glide. I think some people just aren't reading the instructions right. Some are complaining that the iron snags and pulls out your hair. If you read the instructions it says to detangle your hair before using. As for the steam burst, your only suppose to use it on your ends because that's where hair is most dry. If you use it on top you will burn your scalp. If you use a serum before ironing you will get some residue on the iron but this happens with all flat irons. Same goes for those complaing about dry ends, all irons dry out your hair. As for the blue blinking light, I just put my thumb over it until it heats up and stops blinking.

The Maxiglide makes my hair perfectly straight, however, it also snags my curly hair, unless I use the steam and is very difficult to clean. I use heat protectants and find they build up on the plates creating a goo that can only be scrubbed off with a toothbrush.

First, some context: I have frizzy, wavy, thick, Indian hair and live in humid south Florida
- The ceramic plates have teeth on them. Yes hair snags on the teeth (which causes breakage) but without the teeth this iron would not straighten anywhere near as well as it does
- The temperature range allows a hair to be styled from natural-looking body to stick straight hair
- The electrical cord is attached to the straightener in a way that the cord doesn't get twisted as you're using it, which is appreciated
- Lasted for me for four years through many drops and falls
- Straightens beautifully. I once straightened my hair before a sweat-drenched dance marathon at a club and I was the only girl who managed to emerge with straight hair. I used to get a lot of compliments about my pretty, straight hair through my years with this straightener.
- Since my Maxiglide gave out I bought a Hai Convertible straightener and while it works great, I still prefer the Maxiglide

I have very curly, fine hair.
I bought this thing after staying up late and watching infomercials. The first time I used it, it was amazing; or so I thought. I also had all sorts of things in my favor: I had just gotten my hair cut, I lived in Las Vegas (no humidity), and the shampoo and conditioner I use are amazing.
The results were great. It took me forever though: about 2 hours. I had movement, shine...it was wonderful. I even straightened my hair in Hawaii, and it stayed perfect.
However, after having it for about 2.5 years and using it less than 10 times, it died.
The thing that drove me most crazy about it was that blinking blue light! It's blinding!! I felt like it was going to burn a hole through my eye! Lol. Seriously though. It was horrible.
It was also very heavy.
And, what's the deal with STEAMING your hair, when humidity is like the devil to us curly heads??
I guess I'm just spoiled as I now own the GHD. Buy it!!

this product totally works for me. it hurts a bit to pull it through my hair, and the "burst of steam button" is bs in my opinion, but this item does genuinely work.

This is the best thing to ever happen to my hair. I have owned 2 now...I ordered the original model 4 years ago and recently purchased the new MP, simply because I wanted something a little smaller and less bulky and it came with 2 full size bottles of his products, The End and Beyond Straight, which are fantastic. My old one is now my back up ;)
I've been using this iron on and off for 4 years. The past 6 months, I've been wearing my hair straight exclusively (I have naturally very curly, thick, dry hair). I've owned a ton of straightening irons before and NOTHING comes even close to my Maxiglide. It makes my hair stick straight, shiny and so soft. Now, it does take some getting used to as you don't use it the same way you do other irons. You CANNOT squeeze or pull! That's when hair breaks. You have to follow their directions exactly but once you get the hang of it, it's so simple. I truly believe if you're hair is turning frizzy from this it's because you are not using it properly! The steam function makes a HUGE difference on my ends. Honestly, my hair's condition has improved using this...as when I wear my hair natural, I have to wash and blow dry daily, but when its straight I can let it air dry, straighten and then leave it alone for a couple days without washing. I love my hair thanks to Maxiglide.

I have been using the Maxiglide for over 2 years now. I do not use the pinned plate because it does not straighten my hair as well as the two flat plates. I love this flat iron, but i gave it 4 lippies because the ceramic coating on the plates have chipped off and when i went on their website it states in the FAQ's that it won't hurt your hair to use it when that happens......I have noticed it's really damaging my hair now and i am going to have to purchase a new iron.... It worked great with very little damage to my fine, long blonde hair until the plates started chipping away. I think I am going to purchase a GHD.........hopefully it's not too hot for my hair, with no temp control.

I LOVE THIS FLAT IRON!!! I would give it 100 lippies...I used to be a flat ironing queen before I transitioned to natural hair but this is perfect for people with A LOT of thick hair. Even with my natural hair the maxiglide does a magnificent job. There are pins within the plates that hold your hair inside the iron, and the backside of the iron still allows you to add a nice bend/ bump to the ends of your hair. Even the steam function is cool, I thought it would make your hair frizzy but I usually use it on my hair ends... I'm not sure if it helps but it doesn't hurt either. My only dislike of the Maxiglide is that the cord doesn't swivel, and after twisting it over and over again the cord needs to be untwisted after a while. If the price is a concern I would wait until one of those 20% off coupons came from Bed Bath and Beyond...

This flat iron is bulky and very difficult to use. It also adds another 2hrs to the hair straightening process. My hair is very curly. I must get the thinnest sections and flat iron them with this because otherwise it would pull my hair (it hurts). The styling products that came along with it are quite good. Having to fill the tiny chamber with water every 10 minutes is irritating. Because of the size, I can't get it too close to my scalp otherwise I get burned. I thought this would be a good investment but I was wrong. It was a waste of money. I think I've used it all of 5 times and I've had it for over 2 years. I really don't like it. WARNING: YOU WILL HAVE LARGE AMOUNT OF HAIR IN THE PINS. IT LITERALLY YANKS THEM OUT. I also noticed that the smoothness didn't last. My hair frizzed out by the end of the evening (with my aveda anti-humectant!!!) The only thing I did like was the 'Beyond Straight' that came with it. It really does leave hair bouncy and shiny after a blow dry, not air dry, blow dry.

Personally, I don't own this iron. But one of my best friends does and i have used it countless times. I hated this iron with a passion. It does not make hair pin straight, it snags and pulls hair out, and it turns my hair into a frizzball! It is a piece of crap. My friend says she loves it, but she always complains about the frizz. She refuses to accept that this iron is what turns it into that frizzballl. I hate this iron and i would never recomend to anyone.
