it was really heavy and gave me a headache. I gave it to my friend because I can not smell it. She also told me it was a little bit heavy. Honestly i did not like it.

I admit that it took me until my mid-30's before I developed an appreciation for this fragrance. I guess it was just too mature for my nose during my twenties, but now I love it and the simple yet beautiful bottle that it comes in. I guess I detect the musk and paper white notes the most, but its the overall combination that I find so pleasant, clean, and sophisticated. Well done, SJP!!

A beautiful, long-lasting scent on my skin. I'm on my second bottle, which says a lot for me. A little musky, yet very feminine. I adore anything pink, and love the bottle.

I have worn this in the past and really loved the scent, but did not repurchase it because the scent didn't last too long. However, I have decided to try it again, and I still love it. Also, I find the lasting power is better now on me for some reason. The smell is similar to NR EDT (which I recently purchased and absolutely love), especially in the drydown, but this is a more muted version, appropriate for days when you just want to smell nice in a toned down way. After wearing it again, I am really starting to appreciate the beauty of this perfume. It's light, fresh, floral and musky all rolled into one. Even though the NR has more staying power and is amazing, they are both worth owning and wearing! I love them both.

I received Lovely EDP as a gift from my Mother, she absolutely LOVES this fragrance and thought I would as well. She thought wrong. Don't get me wrong, it's bearable - and it's nice enough to wear during the day to work, or weekends, or supermarket shopping - but that is as far as it goes!! I find the scent quite unusual, and not in a good way. It seems to start off rather sweet, then it turns somewat spicy/musky! I have never been a musky/oriental perfume person - so it just puts me off ever so slightly!
The bottle deign is really sleek and sophisticated, I like it - but that is all I like. Once this bottle has run out, I will not replace it! Sorry SJP - I really like you, just not Lovely!!

The thing is, and that has been said many times already, that Lovely is the little sister of Narcisio Rodriguez Her on budget. They differ in the head pretty much as Lovely is very sharp when just sprayed, but after a while, when the heart develops, they are almost mistakable, so that when I get a whiff from someone next to me I always wonder which of the two is she actually wearing.
But this is only its little sister because, as soon as you try both on your skin and compare them, you will notice that Lovely lacks the sensuality, the creaminess and that “vintage” allure of NR Her. Lovely is more innocent and somehow melancholic, so much that I can actually wear it only on Summer/Fall rainy days. For that it is perfect.

I was surprised to learn that "NYC", not "Lovely" is Sarah Jessica Parker's best-selling fragrance. "NYC" is what I expected from a celebrity scent - fruity, sweet - geared toward the 20 -something crowd. Don't get me wrong - I like "NYC." It's not bad. But "Lovely" to me is truly exceptional - starting with the beautfiul egg-shaped bottle. I mean the light pink fluid in such a delicate shape..Why how Lovely! The scent is unusual and hard to describe. Lavender, bergamot, paper whites, mandarin, patchouli, amber, woods? I would have never guessed these are the elements of this scent..especially the patchouli, which makes me think of "Angel." "Lovely" is a soft, unique creation, that is often compared to NR "For Her" and rightly so. They are nearly identical, with the exception of price and availability. I have 2 bottles of "Lovely" in my vast array of scents which says a lot. A keeper..in my top five.

This has been a favorite fall/winter fragrance of mine for 4-5 years now. I LOVE SJP Lovely.. it's spicy and perfect for cooler months. Not a light fragrance, sits well on me.. and tones down when settled. I lovelovelove this fragrance and I buy it over and over again. I think I am on my 3rd or 4th bottle. Def. worth trying and trust me, you will adore it. The bottle is really elegant as well, and come on, who doesn't love Sarah Jessica Parker?!

Yes, I would buy this scent again. I wear it primarily in the summer for the office. This is the only celebrity scent I've ever purchased in my life, I'm proud to say. I could recall SJP talking about her beloved musks and Bonne Belle, etc., from years past, so I could relate. I do like a clean skin scent, and for summer, this one fits the bill. I only wish there was a hint more patchouli. The musk is lovely--a dry and earthy musk to balance out the white floral.
It is a lovely scent. Sometimes, that's all a woman wants.

Bought as a gift (thank goodness i didn't shell out for this!) but just a revolting smell both on my skin and in the bottle. Overpowering and nauseating. It sits on my shelf waiting to be donated

Smooth, slightly floral skin musk with hints of fruit, woods, and incense. Similar to Narciso Rodriguez for Her, although less vivid and blaring, and a tad less animalic. Lovely tips a hat to the classic floral musks of yesteryear while remaining modern and effortlessly wearable. There are times when nothing but a simple, pleasant musk will do, and Lovely fits the bill while maintaining interest throughout its development on the skin. This won't shake the Earth or have men buzzing around you like flies, but it is sensual and sophisticated, unfussy, and a textbook example of a "your skin but better" scent. Blessedly free of sweetness, vanilla, and/or sharp, heady floral notes - the hallmarks of a typical celebrity fragrance (not to mention some designers). This one is in a different class altogether. If Narciso is too much for you, give Lovely a try. (It's also more reasonably priced than the former while not smelling at all "cheap".)

unfortunately, on me this was just perfumey. I couldn't pick up any distinct notes in this fragrance. It does have good lasting power, though. Wish it had worked for me as it did for some other reviewers.

Don't be put off by the celebrity tag. SJP knew what she was about. This does exactly what it says on the tin. It is lovely.
I first encountered it when a work colleague wore it into work. 'What is that? It's lovely!' 'Yes,' she said, 'That'exactly what it is!' A beautiful floral but surprising complex - it is similar in many ways to Gucci by Gucci (only this is more fruity that floral to me) and Narcisso Rodriguez for Her. For some reason it can also remind me of CK Truth, a very distant cousin, so I'm still trying to figure out what it shares in common with it.
The packaging is adorable, the pink egg shaped bottle, the ribbon effect around the top. It looks and smells every inch the classic and is very reasonably priced if you look in the right places. I forsook all my other perfumes for a while because of this one. I can only really recommend it. Maybe I just am becoming an old lady!

Worst of the worst. This is an epic old lady smell with some toilette water mixed in. This is not lovely and not what I expected from Jessica.

This is a fragrance that must be given a chance. It's not as linear, predictable, and easy-to-digest as many current (particularly celebrity!) fragrances, with their topnotes of desserts and plastic flowers drying to the same insipid vanilla-musk base. But that's why Lovely is special, and an instant classic. It's clear that SJP knew what she was doing-- this one was years in the making.
The reason I say "must be given a chance" is that I was indifferent or worse to Lovely the first several times I wore it. Initially, I was almost totally anosmic to it; I perceived something like lavender and pine antiseptic, but mostly an alcohol blast fading to zero. I then went through a phase of liking certain phases of the drydown better than others. I enjoyed the zesty bergamot-apple opener and the narcissus and patchouli in the middle, but felt the whole thing was ruined by the basenotes that suggested Listerine or even Lysol.
However, something about this scent kept attracting me back-- I felt like I could "get it" if I just kept trying. (I've had the same experience with complex classics like Aromatics Elixir, Cabochard, and Chanel No 5). And you know? One day, all the notes just came together for me and I've been using Lovely in heavy rotation ever since. To me, it is a gorgeous, chic, rather tart & dry tropical floral with woodsy notes and an overall effect that is lush, silky, and deeply sensuous. It really smells great on me, like a second skin, and I feel elegant and yet naturally female wearing it. So glad I stuck with this one!
It's really a hard fragrance to describe, which is why I think it puts off a lot of people who try it once or twice and feel baffled or let-down. For me, it has the citrusy-sharp notes found in Pleasures, Romance, or Happy without the headache. Even though the flowers are more abstract in Lovely than in those other scents, they smell more real. No chemical/soapy twang. This is a wonderful scent once you get to know it.

I was talking to a woman the other day and I told her "You smell lovely!" to which she responded, "Thanks, I'm wearing..well, Lovely!" I am going out to get a sample this weekend and I hope it works with my chemistry the way it did with her. She didn't smell old lady at all. By the way, she happens to be 70 years old. This raises the question, what's wrong with "old lady" smell if it's like that anyway?

I wasn't impressed with this. I actually didn't even end up wearing this. I received a small "sample" bottle of this perfume in a swap and as soon as I took the cap off the smell overpowered the room. I wouldn't say it was bad exactly, just WAY too strong for my taste, especially when I didn't wear it. Maybe if it was a lighter scent I would think it was alot prettier.
