I was curious and was looking for a natural/paraben/aluminum free deodorant so I popped by LUSH. The SA was kind enough to give me a sample block for free just to try out. At first, I didn't think the scent was too bad, but after applying it after showering, I realized how strong the scent is. It's not a pleasant scent either unless you have a very distinct taste for strong fragrances. Apparently the witchhazel in this is suppose to minimize pores, which may result in sweating less - making this an anti-perspirant.
I applied this after I showered, on clean skin and after 5 minutes, it still feels like my underarms are kind of sticky. My fingers definitely got sticky from rubbing the product into the skin. Obviously this didn't go onto my skin as smoothly as other regular stick deodorants would because this is in the shape of the block. Also, this dries out if left lying around and so I would recommend storing this in a ziploc bag which makes it kind of inconvenient. On my first spplication, some bits broke off as I was applying it so that's kind of annoying too since a little goes a long way.
PROs:
- paraben & aluminum free
- acts as antiperspirant because of witchhazel

CONSs:
- expensive $6 for 100g
- smells too strong
- kind of sticky feeling
- dry pieces break off
- dries out if left open in the air
- hard to get, not every mall has a LUSH

I definitely will not be purchasing this.

PROS
--- it's natural...?

CONS
--- very abrasive on skin, hurts going on
--- doesn't last a full work day
--- barely even has a nice smell

I'm glad I only got a sample of this. I wouldn't recommend it to anyone regardless of skin type.

I am not a huge fan of the smell, but it is that weak that you can't smell it once on.
My main problems with this are:
1. It has big hard crystals of something or other in it. Like big bits of salt. They hurt!
2. It leaks. The paper it was wrapped in is sopping wet. It is blooming cold here at the moment and it is constantly leaking.
3. It leaves your underarms feeling sticky and sweaty. I have no faith in it's abilities at all.

This is the second lush deodorant I have had. I won't buy another one!

The smell from the block is not very appealing but when applied onto skin, the smell just grew on me. Effectively blocks odour during hot sunny days. Was told that this could be applied to my feet too and so i bought another block just for my feet. No more embarrassing odour!! Do store them in cool dry places else it'll 'bleed' and will become a dry block.

This is the second time I have bought this. The first time I fell in love with the scent but hated applying it. Rubbing what felt like the rough edge of a rock under freshly shaven arms was kinda brutal. I stopped using it because it actually damaged my underarms one day! I bought it again because I couldn't resist the fresh earth cave smell. This time I had to figure out how I could use it without the dry painful rubbing.

I put one end under warm water for just 1second (you can also dampen under your arm) then apply to clean underarms. The dampness not only applies a bit more product but eliminates any rough painful dragging. I don't have to cut any off and waste any product. I then rinse the end after applying, shake off excess water and leave to air dry. I wrap the other end in cling film wrap so it's easier to hold.

This not only smells wonderful all day but does an awesome job.

I wish Lush did a bit more for packaging. Yes having no packaging is cheap for them and green guilt free for us, but products like this really could do with a little something, even a simple cardboard holder on one end would be better than nothing. As much as I love Lush, they have everyone wrapped around their finger.

I have been using this deodorant consistently for over a year now and all I can say is I don't think I'll change in a long while. Before this I used natural deodorants of different brands (Lavera, Weleda, Urtekram) but none of them worked. To be honest I think they even made me smell worse. I sweat quite a lot and yeah, it's a bit smelly - I also don't shave, so I need something with real punch, and for me this is it. The smell is lovely, sort of musky, woodsy, hippy-ish and lasts all day. I even get compliments for smelling nice, people say I smell like insence (and I don't use insence nor perfume on a daily basis).

Packaging - well, it's LUSH, so it's not so much packaging as "wrapping". I wish they sold jars to go along with this like they do with their shampoo.

Over all - Great. Lasts a loooong time, no re-applying, great scent, no chemicals. Bad packaging, but I can handle that when I get the best deodorant ever.

GAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH!!!

Not a fan whatsoever. The scent is pretty earthy, but when it mixes with your bodies chemistry, it starts to get really foul.

I won't use it for my every day deodorant, because it doesn't perform the way I want it to. However, it might be something to use for touch ups during a very active day.

Luckily, I only bought a $2.75 chunk...

I love this deodorant. I have used natural deods before, which did nothing and actually left me worse off. This smells great, very earthy and slightly spicy. If you don't like patchouli, don't buy it. I have very high expectations, a good deod to me is one that lasts all day without needing to reapply. And for a sweaty person like me, that's pretty much nonexistent. The first day I purchased this, I put it on immediately when I got home. Then went for an hour and a half walk (it wasn't actually a walk, we were trekking through the swamp, and climbing over trees.) which usually would leave me hot, sweaty and well, smelly. There was nothing. No BO smell, just a faint patchouli scent. I don't need to reapply this, I rub it on my underarms after my shower in the morning, and that actually will get me all the way through the day. I do reapply though, I can't help myself. It's just so easy to use, and it smells SO good. :-)

I'm trying to do the whole natural deoderant thing and thought this might work. I tried the Aromacreme years ago and thought it had a decent smell and just used it for when I was around the house and it seemed to do the job. But, it's d/c'd so I decided to give this one a try.

First off, you have to scrap a bit of the top layer off so that you can actually apply it. It's a waste of product since you have to waste so much scraping the top off, otherwise, you'd rip your underarms apart with the hard texture.
In the store, it seemed to have a wearable fragrace to it. But, on application, it just had a pungent odor to it. It applied thick and felt like I was applying some rich body butter to my underarms. It was way too emollient and left chunks in the creases. But, despite the slimey feeling, I tried to give it a fair chance. As the day went on, the pungent odor only intensified and I just felt sweaty and disgusting with this thick residue on my underarms. I couldn't wait to shower this mess off.
After all that, I developed a red, raw rash too! I had scabbing like the remnants of a chemical burn that last over a week.
I didn't buy much of this but I returned it to report the rash and maybe they can try and reformulate it or something. I went back to using my Crystal Rock deoderant which leaves a clean/dry feeling and doesn't give off any offensive odors.
I would recommend getting a sample of this to see if you can handle the texture/scent. Otherwise, just skip it altogether.

I hate the smell of this product, Although it does emliminate any B.O I have. I put this on in the morning and even if I sweat alot ( When I go for a run or am working out) My sweat doesnt smell at all. But the smell of the deo itself is quite long lasting, It does fade though. I have used drugstore deo's and I hate the smell it gives off when mixed with your sweat, its terrible. I keep this product in suran wrap or a ziplock bag and it does not dry out at all. ( I run under warm water for about ten seconds before applying just like rubbing a bar of soap on your underarms).

Update- This used to work REALLY well. But after a week or so it did not work as well. It no longer killed off my B.O completely.

I'm in love. I got a sample of this and have been using it for just a few days. When I put it on it lasts all day. No more sweating (I'm not smelly, just wet) and I can smell it through out the day. It's a woodsy smell at first and then it turns into patchouli as the day goes on. I love the smell of patchouli though. If you don't like earthy smells, patchouli, or woodsy smells then this isn't for you.

I wish this were in a container but oh well I'll deal.

I bought this to replace my very loved aromacreme. It is just as good even though it is described as milder by the girls at lush.
About the 1st wk of use, my bar became really gritty kind of like a Buffy bar.
A deodorant that feels like sandpaper for your pits (Great Lush!)
Of course when I was at Lush I described the wierdness of the texture.
Basically so your deodorant does NOT turn into an unwanted exfoliator, keep slicing it so that it remains fresh.
I guess I blame Lush for that incident had they not given me a stale deodorat that was drier.
Overall I love it, since I compare it to everything I have tried my whole life and it works! Will buy more, oh and use it with Coconut powder just for fun and added smell.

I really couldn't get past the smell of this. The product worked, but the smell killed me. Even my son complained about it right after I put it on. i still have it because someone suggested I use the coconut deo powder with it, so I will attempt that, but as of right now, I'll stick to my Dove

I only got a sample of this, but I was quite impressed on this one. It smells oh so much nicer than the stronger Aromarant, a nice woodsy clean scent, if you dont like the smell very much, its not very strong. This deodarant worked for pretty much the whole day, I sweated but smelled nice! And that is a huge relief, because me as a girl, unfortunatly took the genes of my Dad's scent, which does not smell nice at all. First I paired it with Greeench, which I loved, but I realized Greeench has talc in it.. So I stopped (Thankfully I had it as a sample too), and now its just Aromaco, which still works! I will definetly purchase the full size and prehaps buy Coconut deo for some extra absorbtion.

If you are looking for a natural deodorant that is very kind to the skin, you should at least try this. It is a bit messy to put on and you have to scrape off the surface every once in a while because it gets dry and hard, and little hard bits start to protrude (I have no idea what it is). Also, it doesn't completely stop you from sweating, so if you sweat a lot this might not be for you. But if you like the patchouli smell and don't mind that you wont stay completely odour free for the entire day (but it's not really that nasty sweat smell, more a sweet patchouli mixed with a little sweat :P), it's alright.

By the way, I brought this on my vacation to SE Asia and weird things happened! It started "sweating" like mad and shrunk to a hard little lump. So I guess it's not a good choice for warm, humid climates!

I wanted to love this deodorant, and I did for a few months in the winter. I would rub a tiny bit of water on it and then smooth it on clean underarms. I disliked the sticky waxy feeling, so I would dust the LUSH coconut deodorant powder on top of it and I LOVED that combination for several weeks.

Then, the weather got warmer. And so did my underarms. I started to smell not so fresh and eventually had to stop using it because I was sweating and smelling regularly. I am very sad. I'm thinking of trying again with this, but maybe I'll wait until winter again. (pout)

I have a really bad sweet problem, I hoped this would help.. I purchased it online, which was a mistake, definitely smell it before you buy it. I couldn't get over the smell, I think i sweated worse while using it to. It's a mess to put on, and you'll need to keep it in a baggy and a storage tub to keep the smell from destroying your whole home.

This is more like it! after having a bad experience with aromarant, i thought i'd try this one- i LOVE the beautiful scent of patchouli, i am guilty for putting a bit of this on my wrists as well! It seems the more i sweat, the more i smell of patchouli, yay! as it isn't an antiperspirant (which may i add, are full of aluminum and TERRIBLE for your armpits) it doesn't stop you from sweating but it does replace it with a lurvely smell. it's practically like a perfume! I love it.

It gets the job done...but when the bar starts to run out it becomes VERY difficult to apply and you end up having to throw away a good amount of it. and it's sold by the pound. what a waste!

Ive used this product almost everyday for the past two months. At first I was skeptical as to whether or not it would work. The piece that I bought felt hard and dry. I scratched some of that off and inside was smooth, creamy, and glides on easily. I have found that the scent can be overpowering at times and can also linger. Without having to reapply I have been able to smell this after working 8+ hours, after just getting out of the shower and scrubbing like mad, on my clothes, you get the picture. So it's a good thing that I like the scent. I will repurchase this when I run out. I wish that it came with a case or something. I use a ziploc baggie to hold it, but it would be nice if they had a small tin or something.
