I have such mixed feelings about this product! I guess I will just start by saying I am a fair skinned, pasty white girl who chooses fake sun over real for numerous reasons. I would have to say that in one application, this lotion provides the most noticable results as compared to other "gradual" lotions of that nature. It gives a nice color in my opinion as long as you take all the proper precautions that you would with any other self tanner: exfoliate, moisturize dry areas, and apply with gloves. However, it is easy to "over do it" with this lotion because it provides a darker color in fewer applications. I would recommend for fair people like myself to apply it every other day (and shower in between of course) until the desired color is achieved. Now I must mention perhaps the deal breaker with me,the reason I gave this a 3. The smell! Anyone who has ever used a self tanner knows this smell, it's a distinct scent, and very unpleasant in my opinion. I think it smells like canned mushrooms, and this lotion really packs a punch with that smell. It's terrible. I apply this lotion at night after a shower, and I must shower again (without much scrubbing) to rinse the smell off of myself. This odor also clings to my bed sheets and anything I was wearing with that lotion on my skin. I really do like the performance of this lotion, it is a good value, I just wish Coppertone could improve the scent it has once it reacts with your skin.

Best self tanner I've used! It has gradual natural looking color - but it does show a nice color after the 1st application. However I have only used it on my legs.

The color you get from this is great! It is pretty brown, not orange. You REALLY have to be careful of the "trouble spots" like your knees, ankles, etc. I can say that it is almost a self tanner, maybe not a gradual tanner, as color develops pretty dark after the first use. I usually mix it with a lotion to thin it down a bit so I don't end up with spots on the thicker skin areas of my body. One thing I didn't like though is the pump bottle, once you start using it, it can get kinda slippery, and you may shoot the bottle off your table or whatever when you try to use it. It is a bit stinky, and you have to wait till I think the next day before you shower. Beware, it does come off kinda patchy too. That could also be because I have somewhat dry skin, who knows. All in all, it's pretty good, but not the best.

When they say "the tan that you control", theyre right. If tou want a darker tan, you apply a thicker layer. If you want it light, only do it every few days. A lot of people complain about the smell, but I actually like it... I like this self tanner because it looks so natural, and if I dont have a chance to apply it for a few days, it doesn't look streaky, it just fades a little bit (and evenly!) I use this about every other night after I get out of the shower. As with any self tanner, youve just got to be careful around elbows, knees, and the area that transitions from the leg to the foot. Overall this is pretty amazing stuff !

Honestly I don't know why this products has such good reviews. The smell, yes is not as bad as most self tanners. The color I admit for a self tanner is a alright, but it still has a orange color to it. But the worst is that it will look nice for a day (when applied correctly) but just for that one day. the next day it will start peeling and looking patchy. My suggestion is is that its not worth it. Don't buy this product find another self tanner. even though this one is affordable.

I have mixed feelings about the Coppertone Gradual Tan Moisturizing Lotion. First of all, the smell is just ok. I would rather it didn't smell at all. I prefer to only smell my perfume. The packaging is a little awkward to use. When I press down on the pump the product does not dispense enough out. I have to keep pressing on it. Maybe I just got a defective bottle. The product itself does go on nicely, and does not streak on me. It is not orange either. The one thing that I don't like is you have to use it every day to build the tan. Hence the name gradual tan. When I purchased it I did not read the tiny print on the back. I don't mind reapplying it, but I don't want to do it everyday. I rather do it just once a week. It seems to me that you are using a lot of product. I imagine you would go through quite a few bottles. I will say that the color is coming out very natural looking, but I don't think I would purchase it again.

Well this was my first and only self tanner ive ever bought so I can't really compare this to anything but I will try my best.
Bought this when it was on clearance since I was tired of being ghostly white, I had no idea if this was good or not. The pump is extremely useful and the smell is odd but not to bad and the smell goes away. The color develops very quickly. by the next day I noticed the light tan. After 2 to 3 applications I was tan. It doesnt streak but I noticed pale looking splotches sort like if I dropped water on it? I also have an issue when I put this on my face but I don't think its the products fault. Above my upper lip, I have a much darker line and its pretty noticable. Don't know why. Never heard of it getting darker there.

This is a great self tanner, The color looks natural and when the DHA activates it doesn't smell so you can use this as a moisturizer when you get out of the shower and wear it out and about during the day with out smelling like yucky self tanner. I also used this tanner every day in the winter when I was really pale and it still was buildable and looked natural. So kudos to Coppertone for this product.

This is a really good self tanner, mind i have only used one other one and that was jergins self tanner. The results i got from the jergins self tanner after 3 days of use, i was able to achieve WITHIN the day i first used the coppertone one. The first time i used it I used it in the morning. I use this on my face and body and it worked well. It did not turn orange after the first application but it did seem to make my face look orangey after the second application but that is probably because i'm not used to looking like anything but plain white. I did find for some reason however that my face got darker a lot quicker then my body so i have to use it less regularly on my face as oppose to my body. Unfortunately, I also realized that i seem to age like 10 years when my face is tanned and now realize how much fresher and youthful i look with paler skin, (just not white skin). so now i am only using the product on my face when I am looking ghost white and applying it at night so my face is even with my neck for the next day. For my body i find i get my prefered tan after 2 days, and then i'll skip a day and continue the process the next day after. Overall i really liked the fast results and i like the pump it comes with. It's very easy to control how much product comes out.

This is probably one of the best self tanners that I have ever used. I'm really pale, so most self tanners just make me look normal, but with the gradual tanning lotions you can choose to continue using it or not to reach your desired shade of tan, a lot of gradual self tanners I've used though are too slow, and don't do very much, but this one works well, quickly, and I can keep using it to get as tan as I want (Just not too tan). I love it. It's a pale persons best friend :) Besides sunblock of course ;)

This is the best self tanner I've ever used. I've been using this for a few weeks & I'm in love with it. It took a few days to get color but it's very natural looking. I have very fair skin with blue undertones so most self tanners end up looking golden orange but this really does look like a natural tan. It's perfect, just make sure you use gloves with this but otherwise, this is definitely my HG.

Bought this on a whim in hopes of looking better in a few days for a strapless dress. Now I can't get enough of it. It smells decent, goes on smoothly, doesn't streak and best of all, it's a nice color. Will purchase again.

I love this self tanner! This is the second summer I have used this tanner. I am pretty novice at using self tanners, and years ago I tried neutrogena build a tan that streaked so bad and turned orange, so I was timid to try self tanners again. This is a def buy over and over again. No streaing, and leaves a nice tan, no orange, on my fair/light skin. This is pretty light feeling, and the scent is not strong or offensive, the formula can be used for face as well. I usually start off the first three days applying to the lighter areas, like my neck, legs, and under my arms, then apply all over when my neck color starts to catch up with my face and arm color. After about two weeks I start to use this in alternation with banana boat deep dark color self tanning lotion, and I get a really bronze tan with no orange. Im not scared of self tanners anymore thanks to this product.

After trying pretty much every drugstore brand of sunless tanner over the past few years, I've finally found one that I LOVE!!!

I've been using it daily for a week now after I shower each morning. It's given me a nice bronze tan that's not "orange" and my husband, just the other day, asked me if I'd been getting a lot of sun time as I'm so tan! He had no idea it was a lotion.

It doesn't streak, the smell isn't bad at all, and not overwhelming, and the pump bottle makes it very easy to apply.

It dries very quickly. And it doesn't come off in the shower.

Definitely will be making this my HG sunless tanner from now on!

I bought this very cheap, under $10. It works great, has a pump and it gave me a nice bronze glow. I didn't see much of a difference because I already have a base tan but everytime I needed a little boost of color, one application did the trick. It dries fast, doesnt smell too great afterwards so I would recommend applying before bed and showering in the morning!

After reading a review for a Banana Boat self tanner. I wanted to try
it. I could not find it in my stores. But the Coppertone Gradual Tan
was available. I had not read any reviews on this but thought I would
give it a try. I am totally pleased with the out come. It is a gorgeous
colour. Even colour, no odor like some other self tanners and I find
that it dries in a reasonable amount of time. I think that I have found
the secret to making my foundation look flawless and add colour at the same time. I am sorry that some of the reviewers here did not find this
product to be as great as I did. Maybe a bad batch or chemistry with your skin type. I really love it. I can see myself using this year round
as the colour helps with my extremely pale and uneven complexion.

Have applied this four times now with great success. The color is natural on my reddish fair skin.
PACKAGING- pump is nice b/c can always get exact amount of product but is hard to get all product out
COLOR- most natural i've found for drugstore brand (compared to jergens natural glow and dove energy glow) so far natural
SMELL- pleasant not overpowering
PRICE- 8ish dollars @ walmart=awesome:)
APPLICATION- NOVICE can do! almost foolproof b/c it's gradual. though I've done alot of research on ST(self tanning ) methods. It can get streaky if not careful around ankles knees, and elbows. but it's So un-noticable b/c of the gradual color. (Only you would know), and even if you don't follow the ST rules you can just even it out at next application by skipping dark spots and applying product on white spots.
If you need help in the application process go to selfttanningqueen.com and find the link to her "how to Self tan" video series.
*Update*
looks natural until next to someone with a real tan and then the orange hues show. will keep looking but will keep buying this if nothing better comes along.

This did not work for me.
I am a self tanner junkie and ive tried most of them. I was looking for a lotion without colorguide and only subtle color so i can apply in the morning to keep my tan from the night before (from a stronger self tanner like Sun Ultra Dark)
I applied this to freshly showered skin either with gloves, my hands, or a mitt and I got the same results every time... yellow and streaky.
Also, the smell to me is very nauseating. it has those same nauseating properties that Designer Skin Spellbound tanning lotion, Its a 10 miracle hair treatment, Bath and Body Works Ile de Tahiti coconut vanille lotion, and Marrakech oil have to me. I dont know what exactly is it but probably some chemical that is used for the fragrance in these products.
On the up side I like the pump packaging, the price and that the lotion is moisturizing and absorbs fairly quickly.
I will use up what I have for the tops of my hands and feet but will not repurchase.

This is the ONLY self tanner that I actually like. I like how the colour progresses and stays even. It has a bit of a strong smell, but eventually goes away. I only wish this product would fade evenly. I find after a few weeks, I start to get patchy so I have to scrub my skin to get it off. I like how it doesn't make me orange though, like most tanners do. I also like the price. I got my last bottle at zellers for $8 CAN. Can't go wrong with that! However, I don't like how you can only get it in a pump-style bottle...not very travel-friendly. Doesn't bother me that much not to buy it though.
