This fragrance is very peculiar. It's very wood-like. It smells almost exactly like a hoodia pop. Hoodia is a plant that is used as an appetite suppressant, and it's pollinated by flies. No joke, Google if you don't believe me. Anyway, these hoodia plants are made into suckers for adults who want to lose weight. Well, this island fragrance smells just like those pops.

THIS AGES TERRIBLY. used to smell really really good, after like a year smells like cheap, musty bath and body works body splash.

The reason I bought this was because of the name. I'm always looking for a nice summer/beachy fragrance. I guess it was foolish on my part to buy a perfume that Ive never smelled before, but I was really expecting something better. It smells nothing like an island to me. It's very musky and floral, two things I dislike in a perfume. It also is very strong so it gives me a headache. The bottle is very cute, but that's about it.

This is one of the few aquatic and white floral scents I really like. It is refreshing, watery, beachy and slightly floral all at the same time. It is the original and best of the Kors island scents.
UPDATE: As this ages the scent changes and becomes musty.

I love the bottle so much that I can't seem to throw this fragrance away, although I'm not too keen on the scent. Very white flower. I like softer, sweeter, more vanilla based scents, and this is so floral. Plus, it's quite strong. Sometimes I'll wear it if I want to smell like an Hawaiian garden, but most of the time, it just decorates my bathroom.

This is a fairly simple and clean, breezy fresh air aquatic scent in fantastic packaging.

I absolutely love this fragrance. I have been wearing it since it came out and it has a light, airy, clean fragrance. I get a TON of compliments whenever I wear it. It is getting harder and harder to find how with the additions of the other island versions,

I bought this as a clean fresh fragrance to wear as my signature and I love it to death. The notes last throughout the day and even after a shower it still lingers. It's quite pricey at $138 for 50ml (if you're stuck and can't find it at a reputable fragrance warehouse) but well worth it if you're searching for that fresh smell.
I was lucky enough to go to the Estee Lauder head office sale and managed to buy 100ml for $114 so I'll be stocked for a very long time!

Wow Im really surprised at the negative reviews for this product, but then everyones olfactory senses are so different. I tried this at Sephora, saw it in a 30 dollar set (1.7 oz EDT with a very cute MK blue clutch) and had to have it. I usually wear Pucci Vivara which is a very fresh, green but floral scent all the same. I love this this scent for its jasmine and floral drydown: and its freshness all the same. It is very sweet: but I like that since I had been in the Pucci rut before so its just nice to have something different. I really love the packaging and the initial freshness. Although I do wish the freshness would stay a bit I just love the floral drydown (it is a little bit too sweet though). All in all, I think this was dirt cheap and worth a change: I will definitely be wearing it since I think it smells young, fresh and sophisticated at once. But I do think that its not unique enough that I would repurchase: and Pucci is probably closer to becoming my signature scent. I just think this isnt something that is classic or signature, although it is fun and fresh and a great change.

I wanted an aquatic fragrance that's slightly on the sweet side as a comfort fragrance for those days when I don't want to wear perfume. I sampled Island, and the opening was quite uplifting, fresh without being sharp. While I was enjoying this pleasant surprise, however, the fragrance started to develop into a drydown, skipping the mid-notes rapidly. All of a sudden, I was left with salt -and white sand.

This fragrance is not my favorite by a long shot but sometimes I just crave it. Weird. I can't tolerate it unless I'm in the mood. Not really into aquatic fragrances, althougt I wish they worked with my chemistry. All in all it's pretty but maybe not suited for daily wear, ar least for me.

It's been a hot humid weekend in NY and I've been enjoying the freshness of MK Island tremendously. It's clean, fresh and somewhat invigorating. I think it's perfect for a Summer day.

I just sampled this at Perfumania, and initially thought it was just an average scent. But then I kept sniffing (wafting) it and it ended up growing on me. It reminds me of someplace warm and tropical, and my friend could detect honeysuckle in it. I love any tropical scents, and this is different from the fruity scents I tend to gravitate towards. I might get it sometime when I'm a little richer.

Take the original Michael Kors, throw a strange note in it, and this is what you get. Island is very strange to me; I don't get it... at first sniff, it's something I really like, but when I let it set on me for a while, it's just got this weird note in it that doesn't need to be there, and it gets pretty annoying. I would definitely consider it a sophisticated beach scent as opposed to all those teen fruity beach perfumes that are out. Something about it is plastic-y and cheap. The initial spray smells like pure alcohol and nothing else, then it transforms into a rather lovely honeysuckle note blended with a hint of kiwi, and the dry down still holds a bit of fruitiness and a lot of flowers with the base notes of white bark and driftwood coming into play. It's nice, but not for me. It's great for a day on the beach, warm weather, and casual things of that sort.
Notes as mentioned on MichaelKors.com:
Dewy, sparkling top notes of Chinese kiwi, honeysuckle, and parrot tulip.
Lush, vibrant heart notes of champaca flowers, gingerlilies, Bulgarian rose, and stephanotis.
Woody, smooth base notes of white bark accord, driftwood, and rice fields accord.

I'm surprised this fragrance gets such poor reviews. In general I don't care for watery fresh fragrances, but this one is a standout because it has a nice combination of sweet floral and fresh watery notes, and it's long-lasting. I can't wait to wear this in the warmer weather, and I'm glad I gave it a chance.

this was a very boring marine scent. bland and unremarkable. bottle is super cute though. this makes a better vanity decoration than it does a fragrnce

I'm quite disappointed since this used to my favorite perfume..but I realized it was only due to the initial notes there were very clean, fresh, and just the right hint of floral..then it soon turns into a cheap smelling, unidentifiable scent. No longer my favorite scent.

I don't know what posessed me to order this but I did. (Don't we all know how that goes...) I like Island. It doesn't smell like what immediately springs to mind when you think "tropical." No lush gardenias, coconuts, or anything like that. Instead, it seems like an abstract rendering of a tropical, summery locale. "Abstract" is really the only way I can think to describe it, because I can't pick out any of the notes in here. I guess the plus side is that it is basically seasonless! This would be a nice, subtle scent for the office when sprayed once or twice. Also: the bottle is stunning.

I live in Singapore, and I thought Island would be a great fragrance since it's practically summer all year round here. It smelled fabulous at first, but gave me a headache. Dries down to something that smells like vaguely like an ocean breeze. Dettol smells better than this. Maybe it'll work better when applied with a lighter hand. The price is not worth it though.
EDIT: Decided to give this five stars, because two hours after writing this review I sniffed my wrist again and the scent was wonderful. The initial in-your-face cloying smell was gone, ocean breeze was more obvious and there was the sweet smell of something I can't quite put my finger on but reminds me of a scent from childhood.
