Love this. I either use a level 9 or a level 8 depending on my hair color at the time (now I am an 8, by the end of summer I will be a 9). Level 9 is hard to find so I typically buy that online. 8 is easy to find in stores. This covers my roots easily and seamlessly. Great for times in between coloring's when you have a special event, etc. - or just don't feel like doing an all over color. I always use Red/Gold color corrector, about 5 drops or so (the few times I didn't I ended up with "hot" roots). The brush applicator is useless, honestly....I use my gloved fingers to apply it to my hairline, my part, and behind my head. Works much better for me. No strong hair-dye smell, looks great, washes out easy and takes minutes. I will say I leave it on about 15 minutes (not the 10 they say). No dryness, just even hair color. Will always buy this!

I've used this about 6 times. the first time I left in on the recommended 10 minutes and it did, well...... nothing! After that I left it 20 minutes and it works just fine. I'm a natural very dark brunette and I use the dark brown.I don't think 10 mins would work in most cases. not for stubborn greys anyway.My hair is quite long but it's very fine so I don't like to dye it all over too often.Another trick I use a lot of the time is get a powder puff and a cheap brown eyeshadow. I use the Maybelline chocolate chic eyeshadow and just sweep this over my roots.Works a treat. I've even had people ask what colour I've used on my hair.Ok it's only temporary but I can get away with this for about 3 or 4 weeks.Worth a try brunettes!

I have naturally dark blonde hair which I color/highlight very light blonde. Therefore, roots can be an issue especially in the winter. This product is amazing! Can't believe I haven't gotten on here and raved about it before. I keep it on hand for "oh yikes I gotta fix my roots TODAY" moments. L'Oreal makes a similar product, which I tried, and it's *awful* (I think). Clairol Root Rescue works great!
Pros: Super fast. Mix it up, apply - leave on 10-15 min (sometimes I leave it on a bit longer if my roots are dark) - rinse out, all done. Blends perfectly. The side of the box lists all the colors - brands and color#'s - for matching that shade of Nice n Easy Root Touch up, so there's no guessing which color to buy.
Kit comes with color, developer, gloves, instruction sheet, a little plastic bowl and plastic brush. The bowl and brush aren't the most high quality tools available but OK for a fast product application like this.
Cons: The plastic brush that comes in the box isn't horrible, but it's not the best either. It's a mystery why it's curved when other hair color application brushes are flat. I have brushes from Sally's so I just use one of those.
I have noticed LESS product in the last couple boxes I've bought. Hmm. Not sure what's up with that. Maybe Clairol skimping a little on product and thinking consumers won't notice. Memo to Clairol: consumers notice these things.
The blonde colors I use (9.5 and 10) are usually out of stock at the store. I've noticed other reviews mention this as well. Either these fly off the shelf faster b/c roots need more touching up with blonde color, or if other shoppers do what I do, which is when the color IS in stock I buy 2 (Look! 10 is on the shelf! Quick, grab some!). Again, note to Clairol - stock more of the light blonde shades.
Which brings me to the price. It's around $5/box, which I think is a lot considering it's a fast fix and there's a tiny amount of product. I buy it anyway, and Clairol probably knows that, but I'm just sayin'.
Overall this is a product I use, definitely buy over and over again, and have great success matching my roots to my light blonde hair until I color again. Yeah!

Sadly, I'm reaching 35 years old and have to color my hair out of necessity now instead of just wanting a change or to refresh my color. I have dry course hair, so I tend to stick to colours close to my natural dark brown. I've been noticing this year that I can see greys by week 6 after my colorist does her professional thing. And by week 8 I'm in desperate need of a color! So I thought this would be a nice, cheap, convenient option to use around week 4-6, so I can comfortably wait until week 8 to professionally color.
Unfortunately this didn't do a dam thing for me. I followed the instructions, even leaving it on 15 minutes. Maybe you need to leave it for closer to 25 as others have suggested? But it didn't cover my greys, and actually seemed to lighten my roots.
I wouldn't repurchase or recommend. I'll probably just suck it up and spend the $60 every 6 weeks at the salon.

I am 48 and have been grey for more years then I care to remember! I have my hair, cut/colored/highlighted every 8-10 weeks, depending on time and finances. By the 3rd - 4th week after my salon appointment, I need my roots touched up.
I have been using Root Touch Up for several years now, tried Root Rescue by L'Oreal once, (because I had a coupon and it was on sale), and promptly went back to Root Touch Up! I am a natural brunette, my stylist does a permanent slightly lighter then my natural shade, and applies honey/cinnamon highlights. When I first started receiving highlights, I would do my Root Touch Up, then wonder why my hair was always so dark when I rinsed it. Well 'duh', I was coloring over my highlights! So I began applying highlights at home as well.
Had to do some experimenting, so they did not turn out brassy/orange, managed that, and did this routine for about a year. Then I noticed my hair drying out, likely from too many processes, salon/home combined. I wanted to eliminate the need for highlights at home. So I decided to go 1 - 2 shades lighter on my Root Touch Up, figuring if they did come in contact with my highlights, it would match better. "Bingo", that did the trick! My hair looks great going a little lighter, and even if I do get product on my highlights, it matches and I have eliminated the need for home highlights!
P&G come out with coupons a few times a year here in Canada, so I wait until Root Touch Up goes on sale, take my coupons and stock up!

I have a need hate relationship with this product. I get my hair colored in a salon every 4-6 weeks but without fail I desperately need a touch up at the 2 week mark and I'd be in divorce court if I was to shell out that kind of money bi-monthly. I used to use demi- perm color but over time I found the colors ran too dark even when mixing a Med brown with a dark blonde and once you go too dark with those there isn't any way to go back until you wait it out. I thought this would be a decent alternative and it is sort of. The dark brown shade is forgiving and matches my hair color well enough but you do have to leave this on 5-10 minutes longer than the box states. The gloves are cheap and rip easily and the tray used to mix this is small and prone to overflow when mixing so mix carefully. This comes with a small root brush and it works ok if you're just trying to get smaller really noticeable areas around your face or visible parts/hairline etc. If you're going to go to town and do a full root touch up though I'd suggest buying 2 boxes and an actual coloring brush from a beauty supply store. The small brush can be a real PIA and snag. This doesn't come with conditioner but I prefer Feria's anyway so that's not a problem for me and I find my Derm Organics Conditioner works just fine too. Gray coverage is decent if you leave it on longer than stated but I always notice one or two strays and I know I've applied well. My problem with this product is that two weeks after I use it my hair looks ten times worse than before. Not the oh crap my gray roots are showing terrible but really ratty. Unless you're a pro and I'm clearly not, it's almost impossible to put this solution ONLY on the roots you need touched up and not get it on any other part of your hair. The result is a faded layer of color around those areas impossible to miss that didn't need color, another faded layer of the grays that I treated 2 weeks before that are now showing through and a layer of new growth resulting in hair that looks really ratty and faded at the hairline. Yes my hair grows fast so these results may not be typical but it's frustrating. I need this or something like it for quick touch ups but I limit it to one use between pro colorings or my stylist starts swearing under his breath. On more than one occasion using this repeatedly between colorings has done bad things to my color where they overlapped.

I've used Clairol Root touch up 9.0 Ash Blonde for my roots to save money and not go to the salon staring in 2009. Recently they revamped and there is even less product and no conditioner! And it doesn't cover my greys very well or have enough to get the back of my head! I've switched to John Frieda foam. It's nearly the same price considering you have to buy 2 root touch ups and they have a 10 regurally stocked not just a 9 - which is better than my mousy roots but still very dark.

I'm a new Mom who has been salon colouring her hair for about 10 years. I have long thick curly hair. I started going grey 15 years ago but after the baby, my chemistry changed and my greys increased noticeably especially against my brown colouring. I've been running back to the salon every 4 weeks to get my roots done. On maternity leave, I don't have the extra $90 to spend this way and finding a babysitter is a pain. I had social event unexpectedly come up and I couldn't find the time or budget the money to get back into the salon. I broke down and bought Nice N Easy Root Touch Up in 5G medium brown and hoped for the best. Luckily, I read the reviews on MakeupAlley and want to thank everyone who posted and shared their experience. I left the product on for 35 minutes and voila a perfect match and to cover up my greys. I'm a new convert to home colouring!
(Note that I was going from a dark brown/black natural root with a noticeable grey stripe down the part to a coloured lighter brown. 5G medium brown did the trick perfectly for me to match my roots and perfectly hide the grey. I dont know how this product would work if I was a natural brunette trying to colour blonde or red)
The reviews were correct in that not a lot of product is given so mapping out the most important areas of concern in advance is a good strategy before you get in the thick of things. The gloves were way too big so I used my own. The application brush was very easy to use and it didnt take long to do. The waiting was the longest but as I said I read the reviews in advance and waited 35 minutes before rinsing.
I will definitely buy this again and start saving my money. My husband is a happy man and even offered to help me next month!

This did absolutely nothing for my hair even though I left this on five minutes longer than the directions indicated. I hate the hassle of coloring my hair, and thought that a root touch up would save time and trouble. This maybe the first time that I actually called a company to complain about their product. I was told to that it doesn't work on stubborn grays and was given a coupon to try Nice and Easy instead. The customer service was nice, but I can't say anything good about this product.

Not worth it unless you can find it on crazy sale -- in which case, go for it! If you can't, then just buy an extra box of your regular colour, or of colour that is in the same family as your colour, and mix up a tiny bit for your roots -- because a tiny bit is what you get in this package. The thing is, it's much more convenient to buy this package than to mix your own tiny portions of colour; I've never actually bothered to do that! But I have used this and it worked well. It really is a TINY amount of product, though, and I have very thick hair, so it seriously only did my hairline and one part. It would be better to grit my teeth and re-use the little brush with a saved portion of my regular shade. The little brush IS handy-- but you can buy a proper one at most drugstores if you don't already have one!
FYI, the colour does seem to be quite forgiving in terms of matching; I have been using Nice & Easy Soft Black (a brownish black) and debated with myself for quite a while whether to buy the Dark Brown or Black touch-up kit. I went with Black and it blends in perfectly, even though my hair was really starting to look quite brown as the colour faded.

Worth it, but be forewarned that the gloves are kinda funky and that you may need to leave it on for longer than recommended (like 25 minutes).

Great product. Very easy to use. It does cover my greys and they are very difficult to cover. It extends my expensive salon visits for 3 weeks also. I do need to leave on the light brown for 30 min to cover the grey - but it works better than the other home dye I tried and left on just as long. I highly recommend!

I love this for spot coloring an area that's going grey. It's such a nice small amount and it doesn't fade too badly. I have jet black hair and the black and brown colors work great for me.

My natural color is a mousy brown that pulls reddish in the sun. I currently have it colored a sort of medium chocolate with about 5% red tones added in. I'm also quite gray on my crown - about 40%.
That being said, the Medium Brown shade is a couple shades too light (and doesn't really cover the gray) and the Dark Brown shade is a couple shades too dark, but DOES cover the grays a treat.
The solution, I suppose, is to mix both shades, right? I should call their hotline and see if there's anything to preclude my doing that...
Kind of annoying to have to spend up to $20 (if sales elude me) just to touch up my roots. I already am doing this to extend the salon color and that expense. Blah. Stupid grays.

I use this regularly. Its not perfect but a lot better than the L'Oreal version. Pros: The color matching is very good, and my hair generally feels healthy afterwards. The amount of product is about right for the amount I need. Sometimes there is a bit left over but not much. Cons: It's a bit messy, as most hair color is, and the brush could be better (The Belle Color version has a pointed end on the brush which is way better, but I can't find that one anymore). the gloves are a bit loose and cumbersome. There is no conditioner supplied to use after the color, which would be a nice touch. The color lasts about three weeks max on me, washing my hair every three days. I wish it lasted longer, as it doesn't seem truly permanent to me. I usally leave it on an extra 5 minutes, so 15 minutes instead of 10, but the color still starts to fade after about two weeks. I find this to be quite expensive considering the amount of dye you get, which is about a quarter of the amount in a box of regular hair dye, but I guess you pay for the convenience of the properly measured portions and the mixing equipment. I have listed a lot of cons here but I would repurchase because it does give good results.

Tried this last night and was really nervous, but it worked great. I have dark blonde/dishwater hair with blonde ombre highlights that start about 2 inches down. The darker root growth had several grays in it and is about 2 shades lighter than my natural color, so I was looking for a way to touch up the darker root and cover the grays, without have to go back for the 3 hour salon thing.
I used Light Golden Brown for my root area because it seemed the best match to the lowlight/base color I had the salon do. The brush made it really easy to just cover the root area without covering the blonde ombre highlights. I had enough to do the crown roots, temples and under the bang area. I freaked out a bit when I went to wash it out because it looked like the color was lighter than my roots and I was going to end up with a blonde stripe down my head. But no, after I rinsed and dried it, you really could not tell the difference. I left it on for 10 minutes after I fininshed applying the last bit. Today, you'd need a fine salon eye to tell I did it myself. I think this is a great in-between visits product and will use it again.

i didn't buy this to cover any greys. I bought this because of a botched color job
I wanted ombre and got something entirely different. a streaky, choppy mess.
I went back to get it fixed and it was fixed somewhat but there were some parts that still needed better blending from dark brown to light caramel.
So I bought this in dark brown and gently brushed it into areas where I needed my hair to look less streaky and more blended with my natural hair color.
Left on for 10 minutes and voila! it worked charmingly.

After reading reviews I tried this again for covering my grey roots, I had tried before and my grey did not cover, my hair is very resistant to color, especially the grey, so I read to leave on for 35 minutes, and voila!!!!!! covered beautifully!! , recommended for sure now after this attempt, but leave on for 35 min!!! , not what the box says which I think is 10 min....not enough time at all.

I've been using this product since it came out, with excellent results. All I can say is, it does what it's supposed to do. I have dark hair, and my grays are wiry and WHITE and very hard to cover, but this stuff works. The color lasts a long time for me because I have curly hair, and I shampoo only once every 4-5 days, using conditioner to co-wash the rest of the time. And it's always cheap to buy. The coupon inserts that come with the Sunday papers constantly have coupons----last time, five bucks off two boxes. I use them when it goes on sale at Target, and with my CVS Extrabucks, and sometimes pay two or three bucks for a couple of boxes.
I'm taking off one lippie, though, because of two things. One, there really isn't much product; Clairol needs to increase the amount a bit. Also, the gloves that come with the box are HUGE. They'd fit a Sasquatch, and actually fall right off my hands. I have to use my own.

It didn't cover my greys at all. I've bought it in medium brown, followed all the instructions with zero result. Save your money for something actually works!
