No No No!!!... I really wanted to like this product because of all the wonderful ingredients however it burned my face, dried it out, and caused it to overproduce oil. By the end of the day I looked like and oily raisin. I tried to use it on my body but it burned my body and actually caused a painful burn on my stomach. I'm not sure but the burning was probably caused because black soap tends to have a high ph and skin is slightly acidic so in using something with a high ph can be to harsh. Although if I'm correct this product has lemon juice and aloe which can lower ph so I'm not sure what caused the burning but this product is just not for me. Mabye my skin is too sensitive. I prefer to use a fragrance/dye free gentle cleanser like Olay or Dove and then use a serum or a clay mask in the evenings to gently exfoliate with or treat acne. I liked the smell though it smells fresh and natural.

This is my HG when it comes to clearing acne. I have suffered from acne since the age of 10 and I am now 24. I tried birth control in college because prescription meds and over the counter products did nothing for my mild acne. It was the ONLY thing that cleared my skin completely. After 4 years of being on the pill I decided to ditch it in hopes that my skin would stay clear...it did for 6 months and then BAM...moderately severe acne. Talk about a blow to my self esteem. I went back to the dermatologist and she prescribed Epiduo...worst thing I've ever used on my skin. Extremely harsh. After 2 months I couldn't take the extremely sensitive skin on my face. Then one day my coworker told me he used his roommate's Dudu Osun black soap and it was already clearing up some of his razor bump scars after one use. I did some research and realized I had nothing to lose. I found a different brand in a local store because I couldn't find Dudu Osun. It started working wonders immediately. Then a month later I went to Atlanta and found a crapload of Dudu Osun soap and stocked up. It's stronger than the the first one I bought which is great because I had horrible acne. I use it twice a day because I have super oily skin. This product is DEFINITELY worth a try. I no longer suffer from acne (with that once a month exception) and am just working on clearing up the really old acne scars. This soap clears up most scars and acne, but I now use lemon juice and honey to help aid in getting completely clear skin. Please give this product a try. It's cheap and smells great as well. Be sure to use a moisturizer afterwards though.
TIP: I have horrible acne prone/oily skin. The first 2 weeks I used this soap it DID cause a little redness and did burn/sting when I used it. But my skin got used to it and now it no longer burns/stings or causes redness. I have been using this soap for 7 months. If you have dry or sensitive skin I recommend a brand of black soap that is not as harsh as this one. This product WILL dry your skin out and remove the oils...which is what clears the acne.

I like this soap, I like the smell and I like what it does for my skin. I have oily skin and at first a bought an imitation black soap from target that left my with red patches on my cheeks. (Looking like santa in the face with rosey red cheeks) So I researched dudu and I liked the reviews that I was reading. It lathers really well, so I dont use a towel with it. I just use my hands as if I am spreading a cream cleanser on my face, it has the same effect.
Even with my oily skin, I will say this is the only thing that has dried my skin, cant say that I am complaining. However, it is the winter so having flaking skin is not an option, I just use a small amount of shea butter on my skin as a moisturizer. I do mean a small amount because a little goes a loong way!. The dudu black soap has tightened up my skin and is now lightening the dark marks on my face. Its like a cleanser and toner in one.
I do have some small breakouts from time to time, I figured its just deep cleaning out the impurities from the other cleansers that I was using before this dudu soap. The breakouts never last and are gone by the next day. I wash my face morning and at night and have been using for a week now. I must say, I do like the natural glow that has come over my facial skin.
I almost forgot..the price is excellent.. I purchased mine from amazon and I bought six bars for 10 bucks!!

I have been completely cured of this GOD AWFUL mess that is acne that I have suffered with since the age of 10. I am now 36 years old and have grown weary with the constant cycle of breakout and dry up and breakout and scar up. Ran across this soap at the health food store and decided to try it. My skin has literally changed over night. I have not had ONE SINGLE PIMPLE or one UNDER THE SKIN CYST since the night I first used this soap. Aside from the scars that remain from previous years and years of acne, I am COMPLETELY acne free after one week of using this soap. I have been telling everyone I know who even suffers from just an occasional pimple about this soap. LOVE IT! I have thrown every single acne cleanser, masque, toner, etc. that I had under my counter away. I have a 13 year old son who is just starting to go through the breakout craze and I have him using it as well. His skin has completely changed. Breakouts have halted and the oiliness is gone. One MAJOR plus to this soap is that it fades dark spots and your skin starts to look brighter. It will take quite a while for this to fade the years of damage that I have done from picking, etc. but I can already see some of my major damage starting to slowly lighten! I can't say enough about this soap!!! If you are at your wits end, TRY IT! My entire regimin consists of this soap, along with 2.5 BP after washing. That's all. Nothing more. TRY IT!!!!

this soap really dries out my skin, just the face. I gotta tell you if your looking for a soap , you better get the Raw African Black soap, is not as drying as this one. Also Use The Fruit of the earth Vitamin e cream to moisturize after the use of the abs. It really cheap! Walmart, Dollar General...

I'd heard a lot of good things about Dudu Osun on skincare forums, so in my quest for fresh, clear skin, I finally decided to take the plunge last week. I bought mine from a local black beauty supply store for £1.35, which isn't a bad price. On opening the box, I was immediately hit by its scent. I actually find it a nice zingy smell, but others might not find it to their taste. Using it for the first time, I sliced a chunk off and put the rest back in the box, which I do with all my soaps to make them last longer. It was a bit crumbly but not a big issue. Once in the shower, I rubbed the soap in my hands and it foamed really well - no black foam though, as I was expecting from other reviews, just a greyish cream colour. I rubbed it all over my body, then put a bit on my flannel and gently rubbed with that, and then rinsed well. I was pleasantly surprised to find no stinging whatsoever - even on my face (which I'd incidentally done a lactic acid peel on the day before). The only soap I have ever found to sting me is Kojie San, but this was a lot milder on my sensetive face, and got me a hell of a lot cleaner. My skin didn't feel too dry afterwards either and it appears to help my body lotions sink in better. After using twice a day for nearly a week now, I can happily say that this stuff is shizz, and definitely lives up to its good name. My skin is soft, bright and clean so no complaints so far. I'm hoping in the long term this will be a great aid, along with my other products, to even out my skin tone and remove my permatan.

I ordered this a little over a week ago from Amazon (I'm stationed in Germany and couldn't find it here). Anyway, it came here really fast and was in good shape. I got 3 bars for 10 which isn't bad at all.
This soap smells SO good! I've been using it for 4 days now and have already noticed a few old pimples fading and one super stubborn closed comedone is gone. I typically have very sensitive skin (I get hives really easy if I scratch myself and my face gets very red if I use something rough) but I had no problems when I used this soap.
I must note though, I don't use the actual bar on my face, I just lather it up and use the lather my hands. My husband is half African American, half Thai and has pretty oily skin, and a lot of open follicles, but since using this soap it has helped drastically. My face hasn't been dry enough that I've had to use a moisturizer yet, but if I need to I will update.
LOVE this stuff!

This product is not for acne of the face... as it is too harsh - if you are lucky to use it on your face by all means clear that face acne! But this stuff will clear the "appearence" of stretch marks and body scars and dry up body acne... hair bumps too... just make sure you heavily moisturize. The pricing is defintely not consistent - those little kiosks that sells the soaps are too expensive (for me)!

The first day you use this soap you will see improvement !
Use a light hand, because it is very potent with it's cleansing properties !
It removes your most stubborn makeup, acne, and dark spots amongst other things !
Make sure you use a light lotion, or cream afterwards because it can be drying !
I would suggest an all natural moisturizer, like shea butter, jojoba, almond,etc... because the soap is all natural, plus you would defeat it's purpose adding chemicals to your skin !
Also make sure your using spf while outside, the soap uses lime/lemon juice which can make your skin more sensitive to the sun !
Over all this soap is awesome, please never stop making Du Du Osun !

My mom purchased this for me because I was experiencing some pretty bad breakouts. I tried to use it for at least a month but couldn't make it past a week. The soap broke me out something fierce and made my face itchy. No biggie, I will use it on my face. That was a big mistake. I broke out in a weird rash. I gave the rest of the bars to my mom.

Like a previous reviewer mentioned, a lot of my family also use dudu osun and have since they were young. I can totally see how some may find it too harsh...if you have sensitive skin do not use it! It is a strong soap and I do not recommend using it every day unless you have a certain skintype. Infact, I only recommend using it for your body as the lemon will dry out your thinner facial skin and make your skin a lot more sensitive to the sun because it is acidic. However, if you do choose to use it for your face, this soap will remove ALL traces of oil, grime, dirt, makeup. I love the smell aswell. It leaves my body feeling very clean and actually leaves my skin soft. Works MUCH better than papaya soap and is not as drying. Very cheap and widely available here in South London in any black or asian shop.

Soap Fit to Clean Hazardous Waste!
Pros: For this brand – none for me!
Cons: Too harsh, drying, made my skin peel and rash, made a mess, didn’t love the strong smell
The Product
The Dudu Osun African Black Soap is a solid oval-shaped bar soap. It has an ‘un-uniform’ looking texture where it’s not a pure black (more of a very dark brown with different particles visible) and gives the appearance of a natural and organic product. The smell is a little hard to describe – it is somewhat earthy yet very still crisp and clean, if that makes any sense; and there is no sweetness to it at all. And it is extremely strong – if you leave it in an uncovered soap dish, your entire bathroom will smell like it!
My Experience
I purchased this soap after reading reviews about how it clears up acne (which I needed badly!) and more importantly, that it lightens up acne scars. I was very excited and hopeful about this soap. After using it, I found it to be just too harsh and keep in mind that I am all about needing the ‘squeaky clean’ feeling and regularly use solid bar soaps on not only my body but my face as well. But this African black soap actually stings while you use it! I noticed that while I lathered it up and applied it and I didn’t feel the sting quite so much but then felt it more so after the soap suds mixed in with water as I was washing it off… weird. This literally made my lips feel. Like I said, I was very hopeful about this soap and desperate about trying to clear up my skin so I continued trying to use it for over a week and when I noticed the lip-peeling effect, I tried to press my lips together as I washed my face with and that helped somewhat. Over the week or so that I used, I usually alternated between either using it in the shower at night or washing my face with in the morning. I did both consecutively only once maybe. This dried me out in the strangest way ever. It made some spots on my skins get these flaky dry rash type spots that took weeks and weeks of heavy moisturizing to fully clear up!
This soap is also extremely messy! Unlike the LUSH coalface black solid soap I reviewed before, this has brown lather. Anywhere it drips, it leaves a brownish-yellow spot that needs to be wiped down. So you have to be very careful about splashing if using it in the shower. The smell like I mentioned is very strong and for me a reminder of my unpleasant experience :(
Needless to say, I was very disappointed with this soap. In the defense of African black soaps in general, I will say that it might just be this brand in particular that was too harsh for me. I did read something about Nigerian versions being more harsh than ghanian due to the lemon/lime content (I might have that wrong because I don’t know much about it) so I might one day (after extensive research!) give a different brand a try). If you happen to be an expert in the field and can recommend a particular brand that will help me with acne/scars please tell me!
Bottom Line: If I ever had my mouth washed with this soap, I would probably… never talk again??

I have oily, acne prone skin that tends to scar easily. So I decided to start using this soap which my mom purchased straight from Nigeria. I use this soap twice a day on my face. Overall I found that it definately gets the job done and I can notice that my skin is clearing up after just 3 weeks of using it! The only problem I have is that it is quite messy to use and strong smelling but besides that it is quite effective.

I will use this soap for the rest of my life. It is truly an HG product for me! I am acne-prone, and this stuff stops zits dead in their tracks. I can feel a zit forming at night, and one blast with this and it's gone in the morning. I wash my face with it every morning and night (at night, I use it with my Clarisonic) and it has given me the best skin in years. My skin also has a creamy sort of glow that it's never had before!
If you're considering this, and thinking that it still sounds kind of weird - well, it is weird. It looks like a dog turd in your soap dish. Everyone will make fun of it, believe me! But you won't care because you will have AMAZING skin.
My main piece of advice - don't leave it in your shower where it will get dripped on continuously. I have mine in a stick-on soap dish next to the shower head - it keeps it dry when you're not using it, otherwise the continuous water exposure will erode it much more quickly than normal. I also keep one in my shower for night time use, and another in my bathroom for morning use. And I haven't found it particularly drying. Just follow up with a good moisturizer and you'll be fine!
Update: it's been a year since I started using this soap, and I still love it. I had brief period where I seemed to be breaking out more than usual, so I tried La Roche Posay's anti-acne line. OMG - within a week, my skin had gone crazy. I've never had such bad breakouts - I still have scarring all over my cheeks. I think that my skin isn't used to all of the chemicals that most face products contain. I went back to the Dudu Osun and it immediately calmed my skin down again. I think that I just have to accept that nothing will stop my acne completely, but also, nothing is as good as Dudu Osun. I will still get the occasional breakout, but it's quickly controlled and it disappears quickly, too. Still my HG soap!

I started using this soap just for face initially, but now use it all over...its fantastic...i dont hv to use any makeup remover even for mascara :)..A lot of ppl complain about its drying effect which is also caused by using too much product, jus rub a little on your wet hands and it lathers excellently, hope it helps :)

I am half Nigerian so of course I have been using dudu osun (which means black soap) since I was a little kid! My dad, all his brothers/sisters/cousins/aunties/uncles etc...use this and they are all in their 50's & 60's & 70's but have perfect skin with no wrinkles. A lot of Nigerians have nice skin because of the beauty products available there such as black soap, shea butter etc...which many use on a daily basis their entire lives.
Anyway, AUTHENTIC dudu soap should contain things like pure honey, palm ash, shea butter, lime juice, aloe vera etc...all sorts of goodies for the skin. Don't get the fake bars.
I use it twice a day when I shower and it does not overly dry or strip my skin. It leaves me feeling so clean and fresh whenever I use it, more than any bar soap I have used before. It's cheap as chips (I get mine for about £1 at some random African stores) and the bar seriously lasts for ages - doesn't melt like most other soaps. I use it daily on my face too...doesn't break me out or anything (I have very breakout prone skin). It leaves my face clean and has helped lighten acne scarring I had on my chin, plus it helps prevent cystic blemishes too. I have very sensitive skin on my face and dudu soap does not irritate it, but of course, each to their own. Removes makeup really efficiently too. Definately a staple for me.
BTW: Some people will find the Nigerian black soap too harsh because of the lemon/lime oil (which work really well at clearing up acne scarring btw)...if you have overly sensitive skin use the Ghanaian black soap which doesn't contain any.

This soap has become a bathroom staple for me over the last year. It is brilliant at cleaning off foundation and mascara. It is a wonderful clarifier and toner at once!
I use it once/twice weekly by moistening my hands and face and running my hands over the bar then applying the foam to my face. Rinse then apply a thick night cream.
The soap has a similar texture to Pearl's soap with a slightly gritty texture. The foam is black like the soap, but not gritty. I store the soap in a draining tub, and it has lasted for about a year. The soap does not crack on drying like other mainstream commercial soaps, and it does not wear away under relative bathroom humidity.
I personally think that this soap has improved my skin complexion, by removing scars left by spots, and also the dark patches around my temples and nose.
It costs 1Pound from most African-Caribbean hair and beauty shops in the UK, and 1€ in African shops in Germany or France. I think that this brand is also one of the best ones around, as so many people seem to recommend this brand or have heard of it.
It contains only natural ingredients as well which is always a plus! Hopefully they won't change it in any way at all.

If you have acne, this will clear up and brighten your skin as well as aid in giving you an even skin tone. But do not use this on your face more than twice a day for it is VERY drying and can start to cause irritation. The soap is very strong which is why it is a great cleansing bar. But because it can be very drying it is best to use a really good moisturizer directly afterwards. I use coconut oil instead of shea butter to counter the dryness. I have been using this soap for about 4 months now and one bar of soap will last you a very long time using it everyday. It will last about a month whereas most other soaps last about a week or two. So you get more for your buck. I should also add that it shrinks pores.
EDIT: 9 months into using this and I still love it! My younger sister, who has been having skin problems, finally purchased it. I told her about the soap the first month I began using it and she sort of ignored me and kept doing her own thing. Now she confessed to me that she would be staring at my face because of how flawless it looks and trying to figure out what it was that I was using. Now she uses the soap, even ordered 6 bars at a time. I'm so in love with this soap, it's the only one I use and I never plan on using anything else.
I also order 6 at a time so when I nearly ran out I couldn't wait for my next batch to come in because there was NO WAY that I was going to use any other kind of soap.
