This review is for the original Laura Biagiotti version. It opens with a floral 'bite',I assume, from the wong shi blossom. The florals and oriental notes swirl together until the rich, ambery notes take over in the drydown; the Italian honeyed fruits add to this scent's overall warmth. The smell of the fragrance reminds me of golden crushed velvet; very smooth and plush. Sillage is mediocre but persists 8+ hours after application. I typically still get faint whiffs of this in my hair and on my clothing the next day.

I had the good fortune of finding an obscenely large bottle of the original Venezia two months ago on one of my many vintage fragrance hunting expeditions. It's a lovely scent dripping with honey in the top notes but without the slightly urinaceous note often found in honey fragrances. It dries down to a creamy vanillic base that I find absolutely addictive. That base, by the way, bears a slight similarity to the drydown of vintage Samsara EDP in the clear glass bottle before Guerlain changed the ingredients. It's rich, smooth, and woody.
If Venezia has just one drawback, it would be the stunning resemblance to the scent of the original Caress bodywash in the paech-colored bottle. Don't believe me? Sniff them side by side, and you, too, might think for just a moment that Caress smells like a flanker of Venezia or vice versa. The only difference is the extra blast of honey in Venezia. Once I caught the resemblance, it was hard for me to wear Venezia without feeling like I had stepped out of the shower without rinsing all the Caress bodywash off my skin. It smelled great; it just felt very... wrong.
Comparing my vintage Samsara to my vintage Venezia, I prefer the former, if only because it's one step further away from Caress and just as creamy and delicious in the drydown. Still, for the full honey experience, there's nothing quite like Venezia.

Starts as woody cinnamon? That threw me, I must admit, but then it developed distinct printer's ink and paper notes, which I love love love, with rose and classic old style faint fruits; Tart, slightly aldehydic. Very different from most of the 1500 (not kidding) scents I've tried. Venezia is almost unisex with it's fruity floral, suggestion of ozone (printer's ink to me), like scooter exhaust. It's a whole scene in a bottle: A sunny day in Italy, scootering past an open market in a new leather jacket and a fruity perfume. It fades quickly into a skin scent of ozone and fruit, but it's still rather lovely. Final dry down reminds me a bit of Equistrius or Putain d'Palace in the same fashion that they both share a sort of soap/makeup/perfume feeling. Evocative and modern. Thanks to a generous swapper, I get to play with this happy sunny scent.

I have got good news to all Venezia lovers. It is BACK. I saw it in a large cosmetic shop in Norway last week. I tried the tester. It smells the same.

BRING THIS BACK!!! I have worn Venezia since early 90s. I tattooed the lion on my shoulder. Please Please Please start making this again. There is NOTHING like it anywhere. I refuse to wear anything thing else. My supply is dwindling.

Absolutely, positively, undeniably, hands down the most amazing perfume in existence. Period. I'm obsessed with it. In fact I'm mesmerized by it. I'd spend $500 on a bottle of this. It's so hard to find and I've spent upwards $200 for it on EBay and had it shipped from Hong Kong several times. Worth every penny. It's absolutely magical, mysterious and sensual. People go crazy when I wear it....and I get tons and tons of compliments. It's simply incredible. I was going to save my last drop for my wedding day but even my husband wasn't worth wearing it for.

this perfume smells really strange & unique I have never smelled
any thing like it . it's like a combination of feminine scent with
masculine scent like tobbaco & leather
the bottle itself is wonderfull .however I don't think this fragrance is
for everyday usage I think it`s more of night fragrance also it's
a bit heavy for those who like softer or juicy perfumes

This is one of my 2 favourite fragrances in the whole wide world. I have no idea why it has been d/c (and now it`s so expensive grrrrrrr).
I don`t want to go into fragrance note details since it already has been described beautifully by other muaers BUT:
I get really emotional (in a good way) when I wear this. It makes me smell like a goddess. It is nothing I have ever smelled before (I don`t find Ginestet Botrytis similar at all, yes it also smells a little like honey and is sweet but Venezia is sooo much softer, rounder and just fuller if that makes sense). And it is so sexy. SOO darn sexy. I have never experienced a scent as sexy as this one. The boys LOVE it. More than any other fragrance I own. And I own many lol. I had guys calling me after I first met them and the first thing they said was that they want to smell me again when I was wearing Venezia. I don`t EVER want to be without this fragrance.

Pure Perfection. Perfect scent of honey and woods combined. I just wish it wasn't so hard to find and so expensive. Love this stuff.

This is a gorgeous perfume that does remind me of Ginestet's Botrytis. However, it is more refined. I think it would be easier to wear in public. Sweet honey and spices, but refined. Reading the other reviews, I guess this has been d/c'd and very expensive. Therefore, I will stick with Botrytis. This is really lovely, though.

When my Mother and I went traipsing through Italy 11 years ago, we spent inordinate amounts of time in Perfumerias (sp) and beauty shops. It was a guilty, joyful pleasure for us to spend hours sniffing and sampling. We eschewed most of the tourist spots/areas in favor of this, lol.
It was in Florence we discovered LB. My Mother fell in love with Venezia; I rather liked it. She purchased a large bottle and proclaimed herself in love. I think I spent under $10 US for the smaller, and picked up a lotion. When we returned to the US, I shelved them and only took them out once in a while. After a while, it lost its appeal for me, and I (gasp) tossed them in a cleaning one day. I almost forgot about this, until I ran across a dusty bottle of Roma the other night. Now I see the bottles on ebay for exorbitant amounts of money and am kicking myself in the rear for tossing them.
I don't think it's worth the ebay going rate, but it was an unusual perfume and had great sillage. I do miss the lotion, now that I've been reminded of it. Would be great to wear again, but not at these prices.

I loved this stuff. I have finished my bottle wich lasted for a years. For me it is not a parfume that you could wear every day. It is very noticable, strong floriental smell, very sweet, very recognizable not just like any other fragnance out there. One spritz is more than enough. It is not very easy to review on fragnances, since the tastes ( and noses) are sooo different. I would like to have it again in my collection if I find it somewere. It envokes some nice memories...

I agree with the people who suggested this to lilacterp as similar to Escada Collection and Ginestet Botrytis. Not identical by any means, but very similar mood and scope. If you are unfamiliar with this and bemoaning the high price, you can console yourself that those two other insanely expensive, and in the case of Collection, hard to find, scents are a good substitute! LOL
Having said that, this is a delightful warm deep honeyed scent, a bit spicy, with some well hidden florals at the core. Comforting and confident!

This is so heavenly, so etherial and beautiful that I almost get tears in my eyes when I put it on. The perfect fragrance. I have it in both pure parfum (yes, with those golden flakes) and in EDT and I prefer the parfum. I agree with the reviewers below that EDT smells like a watered-down version. The parfum is pure heaven and lasts the whole day. It is my HG together with Apres L'Ondee parfum and Gardenia Royal oil.
I also have Ava-Luxe dupe and I find it very close to the original but a bit "sharper", not as smooth as the original. I think I can smell different notes in the dupe - it's not as perfectly blended as the original. It's beautiful anyway (please forgive me - I'm just to faithful to the original:)
I love it to death

This....Is.....The....Most....LOVELY scent I have ever encountered. Was given a 1/2 full bottle in college by a friend who said it changed too much on her skin. Used it up, forgot about it for years. Rediscovered it (for an exorbitant price) on Ebay, the EDT I purchased smells either oxidized or watered-down. Thought I would have to plop down $200 for the parfum on EBAY. Thanks to kindly MUA-er I just ordered the Sonoma Scent Studio dupe, eagerly awaiting it. Will give my review once it arrives. All types of people comment on this scent when you wear it. Can't rave about it enough.

Beautiful floral-oriental fragrance by Laura Biagiotti, which I find similar in some ways to Escada Collection. Of the three Biagiotti scents I love (others are Roma and Sotto Voce), this is the richest and most appropriate for night-time. It begins with a rich blackcurrant note which at times smells like bourbon to my nose, supported by a rich floral heart tempered by dry woods and a creamy, sensual base. I usually cannot stand gourmand-woods scents but this one truly works. The rich notes are never in competition with each other, creating a luxurious blanket of scent. The fragrance evokes images of a sea whose waves are made of thick, bourbon-colored velvet that you wouldn't mind drowning in. Inexplicably, this has been discontinued. Top Notes: Wong-shi blossom, Indian mango, black currant bud, rose, geranium, prune, osmanthus. Heart Notes: Jasmine, iris, ylang-ylang, cedarwood, ambergris. Base Notes: Vanilla, civet, sandalwood, musk, tonka bean.

Oy! I can't believe this has such a low rating. I'm on my second bottle. I find this similar to Escada Collection, but not identical. It's very lush, warm and full. If you can't find it, Sonoma Scent Studio has a dupe that's spot on. This is one of my all-time favorites. Why is it that all the good ones get discontinued?!

I loved this perfume the moment my little 8th grade nose sniffed it in Vogue magazine over 10 years ago. Baby powder, tobacco flower, and bourbon I think. I somehow got enough money together and bought it for myself. It was a cherished perfume that I was in love with until it was discontinued. I forgot about it for awhile and then rediscovered in on the internet a few years ago. I had it shipped all the way from Hong Kong. Nowadays, it is nearly impossible to find. Good thing I have one last bottle to keep in my collection. This is a great perfume for those who want to make a statement with their scent. It is not for the demure - it is very heady and one spritz will do for the entire day.

I just re-discovered this after not wearing it for years. I got this from a kind swapper. It is difficult to find online. This scent does not seem dated since its launch, because its character is similar to the more contemporary Armani Mania and Cashmere Mist. It is a floral oriental that dries down to a powdery floral. The tobacco, woods and oriental spices emerge after a day, and I love when a fragrance lasts that long. I'll try to purchase another bottle if I can find it.

~NOTE: This is a review for Laura Biagiotti's Venezia, NOT Adrienne Vitadini's Venezia.~
Laura Biagiotti Venezia is a hard-to-find discontinued scent in a beautiful Venetian-style bottle. This scent was recomended to me by MUAers because of my love of Escada Collection and Ginestet Botrytis. Unfortunately, Venezia did not remind me that much at all of those two. It is definitely a pretty floriental with spicy dark undertones, but it turns a bit soapy on my skin, which is an absolute no-no for me. It is a blend of bergamont, lemon, red rose petals, jasmine, and warm saldalwood. I don't really detect any honey or tobacco or anything like that that people have mentioned on the boards.:( I have some EDT, so maybe the perfume version is better(?) It is lovely, but not lovely enough to spend the going rate on eBay, so definitely "sniff before you buy."
